The quote was accurate. Eddie was polite and available to explain it. The best part was the crew that actually moved my belongings. Robin, Alberto and Daniel. They were responsible, on time and very careful. The best assets of the company.

Metropolitan Movers made a very stressful move easy. This is the third time was have used their services, but the first time going long distance. Previously we had just moved within the DC area. Even though I remember my great experiences in the past I was still amazed at the service from start to finish. From the moment you inquire to after your move is done, Cassie is extremely helpful and responsive and really takes care of you. She walks you through the process, and responds to any questions you have extremely quickly and thoroughly, an absolute delight to work with! Eddie did the walkthrough for the estimate, and he was spot on, he gave us options for packing, just loading/unloading and packing some. The estimate was perfect, and having the piece of mind paying what you budget is really invaluable. I can't say enough great things about Leo and his team (Jose and Ravel). From the moment they arrive they are respectful, cordial and absolute machines at moving. Our place in Chicago had a few flights of stairs and they powered through, were very cautious around walls and floors, and were absolute problem solvers when something didn't fit or work just right. Whether doing a short or long distance move, they will do great. Having just been through my first long distance move, and having done research on different options and providers, do yourself a favor and pay the extra and don't fall for shared rides, the money is totally worth it, as the move went exactly as planned and was great!

Beware! Very disappointed. They came in at twice their estimate, which was very surprising because we had given them a very clear estimate of what we needed. The men on-site told my in-laws (who were overseeing the move) that they wanted specific drinks from Starbucks and asked for lunch at Subway. I found that to be weird and unprofessional. And to top it off, they broke half our China that we had them pack and move because it was so fragile. Their offer was for $0.60 per pound of China, which did not come close to the replacement value of the items that they packed themselves! It also took them 5 weeks to respond to my complaints about the cost, the professionalism and the broken dishes.

I am very disappointed that we did not satisfy this customer, but I would like to clarify a couple points: 1. We offer every client a free, on-site estimate, but due to this customer's schedule, she could not have us come out. An inventory was provided via email, and the initial quote given was for $1200. The customer called back days later requesting packing services that were not previously discussed. The final price was $2100, a result of more labor time and materials to pack the apartment. Therefore, "twice the estimate" is far from correct. 2. Our crew maintains that they were offered the food and refreshments, and did not go out of their way to request them. 3. Our liability on this move was $0.60/lb, but that is not what we proposed. We actually sent her a reimbursement of $300, far-exceeding our liability (a total of $315 was claimed in damages for a box containing 8 bowls.) We do have full-replacement value options, but the client did not pursue them. We appreciate all feedback as we work to sharpen our service, but the items presented in this review are un-factual and very misleading. I regret that our efforts to make things right with this client fell short. Justin McCarty General Manager

The movers were a bit early which we had no problem with. The movers were very nice, pleasant to work with and had no problem interacting with us to be sure they understood what went and what stayed. They carefully wrapped/protected furniture, curio cabinets, clothing placed on their moving racks, etc. All went well! When the moving crew finished loading the truck, it was only about 3/4 full if that. The truck was much bigger than actually needed. This can be the reason why the estimates are routinely higher than the final move cost. Since there was obviously so much room left in the truck, the guys were willing to throw in a few things that I had not included in the move - things that we intended to move ourselves later (with the help of friends & family). I really appreciated that. Why waste that big truck! The truck arrived at our new house the next morning (after storage at their facility overnight). The truck was unloaded and items placed where we wanted it, including items that went into a storage shed on the property. Again, the crew was very helpful and pleasant to work with. We tipped them for their effort. After about a week I still had not found a painting/piece of art that I knew had not been left at the old house. I called the office and reported the picture missing. The office person suggested that I give it more time to "turn up" and suggested that because of their process (coming to the storage facility and the truck remaining locked overnight) that loss or theft was unlikely. I wasnt buying it! After at least a month - after almost everything else was unpacked, I found the picture! I have a lot of art/pictures, and they were wrapped, but not in the thick blue cloth blanket-type covers. They moved 3 curio cabinets and all of the glass shelves were packed in that type of soft, paddded wrapping. So was the art piece that I thought was missing! My only complaint was that the truck was much larger than necessary, but Metropolitan Moving & Storage did a great job! I would recommend them and use them myself again.
Description of Work: Metropolitan Moving came out and gave an estimate for a move two hours away from our current location. The estimator gave me background/history about the company, explained the moving process and told me that generally the actual (final) cost of a finished job comes in lower than the estimates. He went around the house with me while I pointed out what went and what would stay while he took notes. We were not moving the entire house. We were significantly downsizing (3 bedroomd & an office to 2 bedrooms, 2 story to a single story, etc.), so lots of stuff at the old house would be left for a house contents sale at a later date. I agreed to the estimate and we scheduled a move date.

Metropolitan exceeded expectations on all fronts. The estimator (Larry) showed up on time, took thorough notes, provided a detailed explanation of his estimate. Great communication back and forth in response to follow-up questions. He went out of the way to point out ways we could save money on supplies, etc. He was very flexible about the scope of work for the company - allowing us to change it as we needed to suit our budget with ZERO hard sell. The packing crew showed up about a half hour late, but called to indicate that they were stuck in traffic. They took a good walk through of the house, asked questions about what was going where in the new house. They used all of the boxes that I'd collected from Craigslist and friends to save some money without issue (and a lot of their own as well). They worked quickly, and took less time than estimated. (Note - they won't move most liquids - so you'll have to do that yourself...pretty standard for a moving company). The moving crew showed up on time (actually a little early), and was flexible about where to park the truck when a car was still in the no-parking zone. They worked incredibly quickly - when you see how fast they can move boxes, you'll wonder why you ever moved anything yourself. All the guys spoke English, and were extremely polite and patient. When a few things had to be moved in the house after I realized they belonged in a different room, I got no complaints or hassle. Just hard work. They were creative in figuring out how to get a shed that was stuck in a tight spot - they took off the roof and reattached it before moving it. All disassembled furniture was reassembled correctly in its new locations. They also took less time than estimated to do the job - and were focused on getting it done safely and quickly. At the end of the job, they encouraged me to walk back through and have them move anything that needed to be relocated. It was honestly a pleasure working with the company. I'd hire them again in a heartbeat. I can't think of a single thing to say that isn't positive. Kudos to Charlie and his crew.

Metropolitan is great. I have zero hesitation in recommending them - in fact, I've already sent one coworker their way. They work incredibly hard, are willing to try and fit furniture through even the craziest of spaces (we moved to an older house, with narrower doorways/hallways/stairwells and lower ceilings). We tasked them with a tough move out - my house had three flights of stairs, and my fiance was on the fourth floor with no elevator. They got everything done in incredible time, with zero damage, and were friendly, professional, and full of helpful suggestions. I cannot thank them enough for doing such a great job - it made a stressful (if happy!) move much, much easier than it could have been.
Description of Work: Moved us twice - most of my house (in Silver Spring, MD) and my fiance's apartment (in Woodbridge, VA) to our new place in Annandale, VA on a single day, with a follow up move of furniture left for staging, from Silver Spring to Annandale. They also spent a day helping with packing in the Silver Spring house

Metropolitan moving and storage offers fantastic and convenient service at good value. While perhaps a little pricier than some of the local mom-and-pop moving services, the fact that their moving and storage services are completely integrated makes managing military deployments and TDY's a breeze. I was especially impressed with their responsiveness: I called to announce that I would be moving into my new apartment within a week, expecting to schedule a move in sometime later in the month, but Metropolitan was ready and waiting and were prepared to move me in on my move-in date. While there was a slight hiccup in terms of their arrival date - they were forced to cancel on me at the last minute and to reschedule for the following day due to snow - it was understandable given the weather and they worked with me to find a solution that would fit my schedule, which I appreciated.

Amazingly smooth and easy move with this awesome company!! From start to finish I was impressed with their professionalism, reasonable pricing and respectful workers. Moving with toddlers can be stressful, but Rudy and his crew worked quickly and carefully to get everything packed up and on its way to our new home. I really couldn't have asked for a better experience. My brother and his family had the same experience with Metropolitan Movers just a few weeks ago. I would and do recommend this company to all my family and friends.

It was an emotional move as we were selling the house I grew up in. My parents had been there over 40 years and just about every item in the house had some degree of sentimental value. Charlie and his crew were fantastic. He handled the daunting 2 day project very patiently, yet efficiently and with a smile. We experienced some heavy rain while moving my father into our basement, but the crew was prepared and put down "blue runners" to protect the carpeting. Everything that came to our house with my father arrived unblemished. I am thrilled this move is behind us, and so glad that I chose Metropolitan. We are using them again this Summer to pull some items out of storage.

Had several companies provide estimates -- this company was not the cheapest, but made a good impression and had good reviews. The estimator either severely underestimated the job, under resourced the job and/or the staff did not work as efficiently as they should have. Day 1 of packing was slow...but the packing was thorough. Before we even started, I asked my contact if it was my responsibility to provide the packing/moving staff with lunch etc -- he responded an emphatic "No"....and that they shouldn't ask. I made sure to have cold water, Gatorade on hand as it was hot and even though, not my responsibility, offered to buy them lunch on day 1 -- you wouldn't believe the extremely picky orders I received. Day 2 I was already exhausted and offered again to buy lunch...but could only organize pizza -- I was told that this was not good for them but that I could get them something different. Unbelievable as I was too busy trying to keep up with all the people they had and I was the only one from my family there to organize. Day 2 packing continued and took too long so that the short move was very late.....they brought in extra crews...so I had more than a 12 people handling my stuff and putting it everywhere -- I couldn't keep up and they clearly just wanted to get it done and get out. It was so bad that their manager stopped by -- he saw first hand what chaos they created. It was awful beyond belief -- moving is stressful enough, but with their disorganization they made my life 10X more difficult and stressful. After 12 hours on day 2....I asked them to please stop and they could complete some assemblies the next business day. When the arrived to do this, the lead of the same moving crew came and he was completely arrogant & the estimator showed up stating ..."Sorry, I must have had a senior moment." Bottom line: Not good for large moves. This was a temporary move for us before our new home was ready -- we had boxes everywhere as it was anticipated that we'd just unpack the bare essentials and make the next move easier. Still don't know how much is missing and/or damaged. I recently contacted the company as we are ready to make our final move. Reminded them of the difficulties and chaos from the very, very disappointing last move and asked if they would be taking this into special consideration. Their staff relayed that the manager isn't interested in providing any discounts and even when requested, the manager didn't have the courtesy to call back. They should be ashamed of their lack of integrity, manners and business ethics. When the outcome is clearly not as expected due to your poor planning and execution, you need to own the problem and do your best to make it right. At the very least, have the common courtesy to return business calls.

I will be the first to admit that this move was under-estimated. It required more men and time than what we accounted for, and I am truly sorry that it did not go as planned. We worked to make things right with the client immediately. We sent lots of additional manpower to expedite the move, and in the end took over $3500 off of the bill, not charging a penny more than the estimate. I came out to the move on that Saturday evening to assess the situation, discuss the plan with the client, and apologize profusely for the inconvenience. We finished the move over the next 24 hours without any damage. After about 10 months, the client called this week about another move, seeking a "substantial" discount if she secured our services once again, all while complaining about the duration and price of her last move. I am sorry that the client felt spurned, but in addition to being booked on her desired move dates, we simply can't provide that kind of discount on a move, especially in light of the $3500 credit last move. Without a doubt the move took longer than either party wanted, but if we were really that bad, why would she contact us again for another move? I am disappointed that we did not put our best foot forward with this client, but I am confident that our integrity remained intact. I urge Angie's List customers to look to our plethora of positive reviews for a more accurate picture of Metropolitan. Thank you. Justin McCarty General Manager

In one word: Flawlessly. With aging parents, it was great to have a team I could trust ( i have used them before for my personal move) that would take care of absolutely everything. On pack day, Leo's crew was was meticulous, yet efficient. On move day, the load and offload were seamless. They even set the master bedroom up first so my parents could rest a little bit in the late afternoon. My mother, who was quite emotional to start the day, was hugging the crew by the end. I also must note that we were quoted a little over $6,000 for the move and the final total cost was less than $5500.
Description of Work: On Day 1 Metropolitan sent a team of packers to box and protect the items in my parents house. On Day 2, the crew loaded two trucks and delivered all the items and furniture to Potomac, MD.

The experience with Metropolitan Moving & Storage at first was very nice. They came to my old house in October 2014 and provided me with an estimate for the work for moving all my belongings to my new home in Virginia. The associate that I spoke to was very professional and offered a few discounts to sway me to hire them over the other companies I had come in for estimates. The original estimate was about on par with the others and my wife and I decided to go with this company based off of the reviews on Angie's List. Once the move was done the final amount due was actually less then the quote, which is always good. When moving day came I had everything in my house boxed up and ready for the movers. The company sent a single truck and 4 men to do the job. The movers themselves were very quick with everything but seemed to also take care as to ensure nothing was damaged. I was extremely excited with how everything was going and as soon as I knew it it was time to head to the new location and begin unpacking. When we arrived at the new house the movers began to unload everything and place the items in the rooms that I wanted them too. What I was unaware about was the mandatory lunch that they took for an hour. I am not 100% sure if I paid for that hour or not and though I certainly expect the guys to eat lunch I would have been happier if they just gave me the heads up. The move in was pretty painless as these guys worked their tales off. However, with any move there was some damage. I had an outdoor table with a glass center dropped as it was coming out of the truck. The movers did not try to hide it and when they approached me about the damage they already had their manager on the phone for me to talk too. The manager, who I will not name, apologized for the damage and the inconvenience and ensured me that they would fix the problem right away. I told him I appreciated their willingness to make the situation right. Once the move finished I once again spoke to the manager who had gotten measurements of the glass from the movers and told me that they would match it and ensure that the glass was tempered for safety like the original was. Once this was complete the movers wrapped up ensuring that all trash and debris were cleared from the property. I was thoroughly impressed with the move. My issues with the company came when trying to get the glass fixed. Though I was told they would take care of everything for me I was constantly reminded about their liability responsibility and that the repairs were not required but was more or less a sign of good faith. Come the end of November I received a call saying that the glass was ready for delivery and they would have someone drop it off. When I came home from work a day or two later the glass was there waiting wrapped up and protected in a furniture pad. I was happy to put this all to an end but to my dismay the glass was cut about 0.25" too long and would not sit properly in the table itself. I called the company that day and asked what our options are and was told that another piece of glass had to be cut. This is when my patience began to wear thin as I didn't hear back from them for a few weeks. I ended up calling them asking when I can expect someone to come grab the old glass and get a new piece cut. I was given quite a few excuses regarding the logistics and it being the holidays. Long story short I never got anything real until 3 months after the move when they scheduled an appointment to pick up the old glass. I was excited so I took the time off work and waited at home for the driver to come by during the window they provided. The pick up day came and went with no driver coming to my house to pick up the glass. I once again called the company who told they needed to talk to different people in the company told me and would get back in touch with me regarding a new date for delivery. There was no apology for wasting my time and not showing up, no apology for making me take time off of work.......there was nothing. This kept up for an additional 2 months and around March 2015 I finally got them to schedule me another pick up. This time the movers showed up and grabbed the old glass. They also asked to take the table with them to provide it for the glass cutting company to ensure an accurate cut. I thought that was a wonderful idea and off they went with a return time of about 1 week. A week later I called and spoke to the manager again and he told me that there were delays with the glass company itself and that once the glass was cut it would have to go to another company to get tempered and because of this they needed to push it a week more. Highly disappointed with this news I thought its been almost a 6 month process.....what's another week. So I waited some more. At the end of the second week I reached out again and was told they were just about to contact me. I got to talk to the receptionist who, from how I interpreted it, informed me that the glass was just sent to get cut a few days ago. I don't know why after waiting a week and a half the glass was just getting cut. Needless to say the deadline was pushed out another week now into April. I did get the glass cut and delivered to me the Friday before Easter 2015(which is why I am just writing this review now). The glass looks beautiful and is matched to the original perfectly. Long story short, I was highly impressed with the quality of the move and I am sure that anyone debating on using them will be equally satisfied. However, if you have to deal with any property damage or anyone in management where they owe you something I would completely advise you to go find another moving company. My whole ordeal took over 6 months to solve and it required me to do majority of the reaching out to ensure that I even remained a bleep on their radar. Due to all of this I simply cannot give them the rating I wanted to originally. Hope this review helps others make an informed decision.

It was amazing. They showed up exactly at 9 am and got to work. Any furniture items they had to move they inspected before wrapping them safely and had us inspect them too so we would know what was pre-existing. Any boxes that they did not think were secure they taped to make sure. Within two hours and 15 minutes they had everything on the truck and were on the road to the new apartment. Once on location they started loading the freight elevator and taking things up without pause. They laid down matting so that they would not track dirt or leave marks on the carpets, they helped reassemble all items they broke down to move in record time. They even helped jury rig a way to tighten a table leg that has been lose for years. These guys (Leo and his team), were friendly, easy to work with, let us know what was going on every step of the way, receptive to feed back and just some of the best movers to work with. When Ed did our estimate he assumed it would take 5-6 hours to move everything, and sure enough they did it in 5 hours and 45 minutes. They were moving (no pun intended) and we had a lot of heavy stuff.
Description of Work: Moved us from our 2 bed 1.5 bathroom apartment on the second floor with no elevator to a 2 bed 2 bath apartment on the 9th floor (with an elevator, though they were prepared to walk some items up the stairs if they had too).

They were great throughout. The team who scheduled our move, dropped off boxes, and answered questions were all very professional. The movers themselves were very courteous, responsive, and helpful. Most of all, they were FAST which kept our costs lower than estimated. For being three pretty small guys they were STRONG too. I watched one guide a box very carefully through a door frame and thought wow, he's treating this house like his own. We were very impressed. Being able to use their boxes (delivered a month before) and wardrobe boxes (day of) at no charge was a huge help too.

We'd contacted 4 companies for estimates, and Metro was the only one who sent out an estimator instead of just an email/phone quote based on a list of items and guess at # of boxes. Eddie came out, looked around, asked questions about our packing needs and the setup at the new place, and gave me a cost and time estimate on the spot. He said it was a high estimate, he thought they'd be able to do the job in less time. Three movers arrived on time, were extremely efficient in getting the truck loaded, carefully wrapped all the furniture in padding and plastic, and had the truck filled in about 3 1/2 hours. They even tried valiantly to get an old sleeper sofa out of the basement, which took about 45 minutes, but couldn't do it in the end (I had paid someone to take it apart to get it down there, but thought it might fit out if we removed the legs and hallway light fixtures). At the new place they unloaded, placed everything where we wanted it, and we haven't found a single thing that was damaged or broken. They finished in 6 hours, when estimate was for 9 or 10.
Description of Work: Moved 1,500 sq ft townhome contents to a single family home 3 miles away.

It took longer than they estimated (they estimated 7 hours and it took 9 hours) but they did an amazing job. They also provided to us free used boxes to help us prepare for the move. We would use them again in a heartbeat!!
Description of Work: They helped us move from Silver Spring to Rockville.

Every time the movers came (and it was many times due to all the moves!), they were prompt and efficient. They were extremely careful with our things - nothing was broken, lost or stolen. I would definitely use them again, but am hoping that it won't be any time too soon!
Description of Work: The company moved 1/3 of the contents of our 5,000 sq ft house into an apartment, and moved and stored the remaining 2/3s of the contents at their storage facility in Maryland while we built a house. After 13 months the company then moved everything from the apartment and storage facility into the new house.

Very professional company. Gentleman came about a month prior to give us an estimate of the move. On the day of the move, the crew came on time, were completely professional, and used the utmost care with our furniture and other belongings. Would definitely recommend them!

They're very good. They're very quick and took good care of our stuff. We haven't unpacked everything yet but we haven't notice any issues with the things that we've been unpacking. We didn't have any problems with the charges and what they'd be doing. They were very punctual to arrive when they said they were going to arrive. They have been very professional. I think it took about 6-7 hours. I'll probably use them again.
Description of Work: They moved us from one apartment to another. The move I think was maybe 10 miles and were 4 bedrooms.

We lived in our home for over 30 years and were now faced with moving everything to another state 3 hours away The Metropolitan representative came and gave us a written estimate. It was by far the lowest estimate of 3 that we received. Since it wasn't guaranteed, we were a bit concerned, but this company had good reviews. The end total was actually slightly lower than the estimate. Only snafu was that they didn't send anyone over the day before the move to pack up our kitchen. They sent an extra person on the day of the move and were able to get it done at the same time all the other items were being put in the truck. This actually saved us a little money over the separate packing day. The entire crew worked extremely hard until all was packed and they even moved out a heavy extra item that we were disposing of. The same crew showed up on time the next day and efficiently unloaded everything into our new home. They also took some items to a storage shed. The entire process was handled very professionally and we would recommend Metropolitan to anybody moving.
Description of Work: Gave an initial estimate. Packed up one floor of our house, transported entire contents of our home to new area and delivered them to our new home and and a storage site.
