I might have spent $2400 on that service and it was great overall. I would tell a friend or family member that he seems to be honest, forthright, punctual, and professional.

I contacted Mr McDondald and he came to inspect the roof. He identified the problem and very efficiently stopped the leak. I have had Mr McDonald do work at other rentals that I own. In each case he completes the project as described and on time. If the leak re-occurs he comes out to address the problem for no extra charge. I my opinion his company is the one to call if you have a flat roof and it needs to be repaired.

Mr. McDonald was very good about making sure I was satisfied with his work. He and his son worked around my schedule which I appreciated. He didn't attempt to sell me on a new roof which some had in the past which were not on Angie's List. They were very prompt in getting the job done and he even verified that he was using environmentally friendly materials. He did give me a $200.00 discount because I'm a senior citizen. He already knew I was a member of Angie's List. At first I thought the price was a little high but then again I didn't want him to use inferior products that were not environmentally safe and you do get what you pay for. He even made an extra trip out. I was very glad I signed up for Angie's List and have already found a couple of good people I can depend on.

He was prompt, efficient and helpful. It has rained a couple of times since the work was done and no leaking. If it rains at night I can rest easy knowing that there will be no leaking.

Overall, the service went well. We were having a water issue and he was able to diagnose it and resolve the problem.

Our roof was in dire need of repair due to the incessant rain and wind over the last year. We called around to places on Angies List for our roofing needs and came across James McDonald's company. My husband liked Mr. McDonald, his professionalism and his "get right down to work" attitude. He identifed what needed to be done quickly. I thought his initial estimate wasn't detailed enough and he assured my husband that he would not start any work until he specified exactly what he planned to do. We initially scheduled the work for one day but had to postpone it. Once we called back to reschedule we called a few times before we were able to get Mr. McDonald. When Mr. McDonald did get back in touch with us he was apologetic and let us know that he was attending a funeral. On June 10, Mr. McDonald and a crew of four got right to work replacing our shingles and repairing both the gutter and vent after he wrote up a revised estimate of the work. He was professional, thorough and the shingles they used matched our roof very nicelyl. The work was done in a few hours and now we can check that off of our "things to do list." We are comforted in knowing that our roof is repaired thanks to the work of James McDonald and his crew.

Had an appointment for roof estimate w. James McDonald at 9:00 a.m. June 17. Had other obligations later in the morning. No show, and at 9:30 I called Mr. McDonald. He'd be there in about another half hour, he said. He hadn't called or anything. Decided that crossed the line--unacceptable.

We contacted James McDonald for a repair of a leaking roof. Previous repairs including two complete resurfacing of out flat torch-down roof had failed. Mr. McDonald listened carefully to the history of our problem and offered a somewhat expensive approach that he felt would fix the problem. So far the repair has held perfectly, even through the huge series of snowstorms we had in 2010. Overall, very pleased.

They did what they said they were going to do and did a good job and I paid $400. I think they charge too much, but it was what it was. They came when they said they would come, gave me the estimate and did the work. I also asked for an estimate for a repair on the roof because I think I needed some slight repair on the gutters. I thought that the estimate they gave me was unprofessional because they just jotted it down on paper. The quality of work was fine, but the price was a little too high. I would hire them again for the snow removal.

I think the work was good and they were punctual. He was professional and courteous too. I have recommended him to others as well. I am unsure of the price's fairness, but I am happy with the work.

Overall the project went very smoothly. Mr. McDonald was professional and punctual.

Excellent. Provided reasonable estimate in writing, was able to complete work same day, explained entire scope of work and procedures thoroughly (more importantly why it was necessary to do that work) completed in a few hours, and cleaned up. Very highly recommend.

For the full story, I have to return to when I first purchased my house 7 1/2 years ago. The rear flat roof needed to be replaced before purchase. It was...poorly and by someone whose license had expired. When the roof began to leak again, I bullied the same worker to do the work properly, which he did...but it didn't last more than a year. Finally, after several bouts with bad roofing and bad advice from roofers who saw me as an easy mark, I finally - through the help of an architect friend - found James McDonald, and he was fantastic. From start to finish. He gave an estimate - which was not the least expensive of the estimates I received, but certainly fair - which he stuck by. In pulling up the existing roofing, he found significant rot and actually LEAFY PLANTS existing underneath the roofing materials which accounted for the long, long-standing water issues in the back of the house. Since he fixed it, the roof has been sound as can be, and the back room has been dry as a bone. Three years later, I sleep soundly knowing that it was fixed, and fixed RIGHT. When I got a leak to my front pitched roof, I called him again - as well as another roofing contractor found through Angie's List. Again, his wasn't the least expensive, but it was reasonable. The base cost for replacing the roof was 4800 with an additional 1200 for whatever wood needed to be put underneath, which he thought would be significantly more than necessary. As with the flat roof, when he pulled up the roof, he discovered that the damage was much worse than he had anticipated. Legitimately, he should have charged me at least an additional $750, but because the contract said that the cost would not exceed $6000, he stuck with that cost. The work was exceptional. Three days after the work was completed, we had the biggest snowstorm that the State has ever seen in December - a snowfall that the roof probably would not have been able to hold up against before the repair. The new roof is as tight as a drum and of very high quality. I have recommended him to several friends - all of whom are in the building business, either architects or historic preservationists, and they all concur. Having fixed my entire roof, I will never have the need to call him again...but I will do whatever I can to get him business with friends and neighbors, since I know both the quality of his work and the difficulty of finding good roofers. Mr. McDonald is extremely responsive, answers his own phone, arrives when he says he will, does the work he promises and more. He is pleasant, professional, thorough. I can not recommend him highly enough.

A very good experience. I called to have the driveway sealed, and James and his son came out the next day to do the job. They were promt and polite and had the driveway cleaned and sealed in an hour. The finished driveway looks great.

I contacted Mr McDonald and he quickly called me back. He went to the townhouse and identified the problem and provided several options for its repair and replacement. Mr McDonald then completed the repair in a very timely fashion. Mr McDonald provides excellent customer service and quickly returns your phone calls. I have had Mr McDonald provide roofing repair previously for me, and I have always been satisified with the service provided

He was very reponsive, came out within 2 days to do the estimate and was nice and professional. However, his estimate ended up being almost twice as much as the other 2 estimates I got, so I hired someone else.

My kitchen was badly flooded after days of rain. Since the forcast called for more rain, I consulted my Angie's list and began calling roofers. I called two that were busy with other jobs and had estimates for the day. When I called Mr. McDonald, he gave me a specific time - luckily less than 2 hours later. He and his crew came on time, looked over the roof, gave me an estimate, and send he could get started right away. Mr. McDonald and his crew were very knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. It rained again that night. Mr.McDonald came by the next day to check to see if the job held up during the rain. The roof has not leaked.

His price seemed to be high. I received an estimate from another company that was less expensive. I called him another time for a roof repair and he never returned my call. He was a very nice person to talk to.

Last year we had Mr. McDonald do a less expensive roof on our upper roof until we could afford a better one. He also patched our lower roof. This year we were able to get the rubber roof put on the upper roof, have repairs done on the lower roof, and have the lower roof silver-coated. He was very quick to return our phone calls and came out the very next day after calling to schedule. He's polite, and we are very pleased with his work...that's why we had him come back this year!

I had a leak in the back of my home coming into the attic to a bedroom. Mr. McDonald came out the same day I called. He went directly to the source of the problem and told me what needed to be done and the cost. A call to another vendor stated that a new roof was needed. I asked Mr. McDonald about the roof and said the roof was sound and was installed a couple years ago. We recently had rains and no recurrence of the leak.

He is very responsive. In looking back the price might have been high.

He was very, very good and I cannot say enough about him. He came when he said he would and even came back to patch a small job. He was also very polite. I appreciated his services. His prices were well below others.

We liked James McDonald Roofing because he knew what he was talking about. He quoted us a price that was reasonable. He gave us an alternative to replacing the entire roof. He did the work right away. He was really quick and friendly.

Went very well. He came and inspected the very same day I called, and then made an appointment with me to go over the estimate. He gave me a couple of different options and after we agreed on an approach, he came on time two days later as agreed and did the job all in one day. I paid by check and it was processed by the end of the week. Mr McDonald and his son were very pleasant, and eager to explain everything and adjust for my convenience.
