A sales rep showed up at my house 2025 and rang my door, unsolicited. He was wearing a headlight, which made me think he was working for the county. Instead, this guy tells me he's with HCR (Angie's List tells me that this is Homefix and the link says HCR). He was offering a free roof assessments, and I told him that we had it replaced last year. Then he said that they also did gutters and windows, all of which are NEW on the front of our house. I would not hire a company that goes door to door at night, and can't even tell a new roof, windows, and gutters from sight.

The project itself went very well. They arrived on time and covered the floors and rugs to protect them. they strategically placed "rulers" in the attic so that I or a subsequent owner could easily see that the code requirements were met. Worked efficiently and quickly. Whatever cleanup was necessary was so good that when they left, no one could have realized anyone had been there. When we had gone into contract they had included in the cost a zippered attic cover. However, when the crew arrived, they said that such a cover could not be installed on my type of entry. They called the office and the office explained that a zippered attic cover was designed to cover a "let down ladder" entry (i.e., approximately 2' X 4'); not an opening like mine which is approximately 2' X 2'. They said they could install it if i insisted, but that it would result in a larger area of the attic that was not as well insulated. I was satisfied with their explanation and the job proceeded. Later that afternoon, the office manager called and apologized again for the misunderstanding and without my even asking gave me a credit of $150 off the balance because of the that issue. I thought that was very gracious since they had already satisfactorily explained the issue.
Description of Work: added insulation to my attic to bring it to code (R-value 38).

We talked with someone who was going door to door scheduling free estimates. We know we need to have some roof work done in the near future and decided to go ahead and meet with them. We scheduled the appointment, then never got a confirmation call and no one showed up at the planned time. At the home show in Dulles they had several booths set up and we ended up talking to someone. We mentioned the previous incident. They were very apologetic and very insistent (despite us saying it wasn't convenient) that they send someone out that day to meet with us. We again set up an appointment with their scheduler, and they were again a no show. We don't plan on giving them a third shot at this.

I have seen these folks out in our neighborhood in their reflective vests getting dropped of by a white cargo van then going door to door even though there are no solicitation signs clearly posted at each entrance of the neighborhood. Tonight just happen to be one of those nights when one of the two young men rang my door after standing on my stoop bragging about how the other got a full confirmation lead. When I answered the door I asked the gentleman to identify himself by name, his company, and what his purpose was. He identified himself as Julius with HCR and they were just in the neighborhood giving estimates on work to be completed. I asked for his solicitors license to which his friend who was standing nearby said he did not need one because they weren't selling anything. At that point I was already on the phone with Fairfax County nonemergency describing the individuals since they did not have a solicitors license. They started yelling that they did not need one and then they disrobed the reflective gear, hats and jackets and began running off into the dark. If this doesn't make you guilty of doing something wrong I don't know what does. I obviously will not do business ever with this company because of the horrible tactics that they use to acquire business. HCR I implore you you to read Fairfax County code chapter 21 on soliciting at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/consumer/regulation_and_licensing/solicitor.htm

We had someone knock on our door in October, 2015. Had him come back and check our home. He told us that we didn't need his company to fix what we needed fixing. THEN the phone calls started coming. I have had my phone number since 1999 and this one corporation is making me think of getting my phone number changed. Every few weeks I get a phone call asking me how this service was. I have told them at least 4 times (5 now, as of tonight) to stop calling me. I put my husband on the phone. I had given them a high rating on Angie's List. And I will be going in to change that now. And now putting this 1 star on Yelp. Obnoxious people who do NOT understand the clearly stated words, "STOP CALLING ME!!!!!" This is HARASSMENT !!!!! Stop harassing me!!!!!!!

I'm so dissatisfied by my experience with Home Fix Custom Remodeling that I had to write a review to warn others. The crew that came out improperly hung our storm door onto obviously rotten decorative wood, claiming that the wood was fine even though one of the workers admitted it was not. I had to pay for a home inspector to come out afterward, and in his 10 page report detailing the company's errors he accurately described the work done as incomplete and improper. Although Home Fix's website boasts a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee, unfortunately I couldn't disagree more. The work done by their crew was never reviewed with us as advertised, either; instead, the worker simply left without saying anything. They wasted no time sending a bill, though, but we have yet to hear back from anyone after submitting the above-mentioned home inspection report. Needless to say, dealing with this company has been a total nightmare. Let my experience serve as a warning and do not waste your time and money dealing with them.

The door I received was MUCH stronger than the previous door (now I have a steel door). The techs spent a lot of time ensuring that the door frame was square and did not rub anywhere on the frame. Then they put foam insulation around the frame to ensure it was air tight. One thing I have seen others do is use caulk sparingly. These techs used caulk that matched the door frame and used it liberally. When I thought they were done, they started bending aluminum to cover the exposed wood around the door. Everything matches in color and looks GREAT.
Description of Work: I had my front door replaced. They did not just replace my front door, they also replaced the frame, insulated around the edges, and placed aluminum striping around exposed wood portions outside the door.

Let me start from the beginning...their regional sales manager, John Valentini, came by to give us an estimate. It was strongly advised that both homeowners be home so that both of us could see the different products they offered. I'm not sure if this is typical, but John seemed to steer us into purchasing Xtreme windows custom made by Slocomb to be sold and installed exclusively by HomeFix Custom Remodeling. We ended up with the Xtreme 4 windows. We wanted double pane, energy star compliant windows and this seemed to be the best window for us anyway. I have to say that John was awesome from Day 1. He answered questions along the way, stayed in touch through the entire process, and really made us feel comfortable that we were being taken care of. He really seemed to care that we were happy and once when there was a small hiccup in scheduling the window measurements, John took it upon himself to make sure everything was done correctly from the measurements to the scheduling to the install. He even offered to come by on his day off to check in on install day. I told him I wouldn't hear of it (it was New Years Eve) and he made me promise to call him if there were any concerns at all. Install day finally came (we had to reschedule once due to rain). The installers arrived on time (we were told between 8-10, but most likely before 9am). They arrived at 8:45 a.m. The three workers were very nice and professional. I also received a call from a HomeFix manager, Dave, who just wanted to ensure everything was going okay and he gave me his office and cell phone number in case I needed to reach him. We never needed to call because everything went so smoothly. The ONLY negative thing I will say because I feel it's important for people to know is that their marketing is a bit aggressive. I noticed that almost all the negative reviews had to do with their marketers. We have received calls from them and when we ask that they call us back in two months, sure enough, you get a call exactly two months to the day. Once during this process, after we had our quote, we got a call from another marketer who told me they could send out someone else to do an estimate on the windows. I explained the sales manager, John, already provided us with a quote, and they said they could still beat that price. I shared this with John and he went back to his boss to have this addressed. Who wants a call saying the price you got isn't the best price out there. John explained the marketers get credit any time they get an appointment scheduled. It just gets to be a bit too aggressive. I do want to end this on a positive note. I would absolutely use this company again. To have a sales person, there every step of the way, a manager call on the day of install to make sure all is going okay, and professional installers, you can't beat it. Do I think we could have possibly gotten windows for less money? Yes, possibly, but with the comfort and confidence, we believe we bought good windows.

Homefix initially came to my home to provide an estimate in the fall of 2013. I must admit I experienced sticker shock. So I talked with a few other providers and discovered that the estimate was actually middle of the road-ish. So in the fall of 2014, I called Homefix back and said, "let's do it". They sent David Lancaster back out to my house to seal the deal. His business card says he's Homefix's Chief Operating Officer. (He said he happens to live in my neighborhood.) So the door product that I had originally selected was no longer available, so we effectively started over. I selected a fairly basic fiberglass door unit with 2 sidelites and a transom. We negotiated a price. I signed the contract and paid 1/3rd of the contract price as a deposit. David said it would be about 6 weeks before the install could be scheduled. 6 weeks came and went. I wasn't too excited about having my house open to the elements during the coldest part of February, so I didn't push very hard. Time passes. One day, I get a call from Glen at Homefix. He apologizes for the delay and explains that the door manufacturer built the door unit incorrectly, *twice*. He asks if I still want the job done or would I like to cancel? I tell him I still want the job done. He says ok... that he'll be in touch. Months pass by. One day, I get a call from someone in Homefix's billing office. They explain that they're calling me because my account had an unpaid balance. Of course it has an unpaid balance... the project hasn't been completed, I explain. More time passes. Glen calls me again. He explains that my job was "grossly underbid". Homefix really wanted me to cancel the contract, but I didn't. Many times, I am promised a call back "next week", but it rarely happens. Glen tells me he's working directly with Homefix's CEO to figure out what to do next. At some point, they send Max out to my house. He's a foreman or team lead or something. He does a little measuring and generally takes a closer look at the details of the job. More time passes. More phone calls. No action. The question comes up in my mind, "What if I ever need warranty service? Is this company inclined to keep their commitments?" So in November (2015)... one year after the contract was signed, I call Glen, intending to release them from the contract. He tells me that my door is ready to be installed. I agree to proceed. On installation day (Nov 23), the crew shows up shortly before 8 am. They start de-construction. Max arrived later. We work out a few design details as needed. I'm a little nervous because there's a slight language barrier between me and the crew. I chat with Max and discover that they won't be moving the wired alarm sensor to the new door, that I'll just have to figure something out with the security company. Bummer. Also, I had ordered a deadbolt that was supposed to have been keyed to match my existing doorknob, but it wasn't. I didn't feel like arguing. On the upside, they added some decorative trim on the outside that that I'm pretty sure wasn't a part of the initial quote. That was nice. Despite the many details of the installation (framing, siding, electrical, etc), they complete the job before 5pm. The door works and looks good. I expect I'll be pleased with the end result for years to come. It seems likely that the job would've been completed in a more timely fashion if there had been more profit in it. I marked "N/A" above for the price grade, because it seems like the price I paid for this job ($7500) isn't representative of their normal pricing practices. Short-version: Absolutely absurd timing. Good end-result.

Overall, the entire process was rather easy and smooth. The person we dealt with was very enthusiastic and professional about getting the best price for us and making sure we receive a quality roof. They delivered the materials one day and the next day they did the entire job. The workers were extremely professional and took great care of our property. They cleaned up and it was like nobody was here, except for the beautiful new roof. They were more than welcoming any questions we had through the entire process.

This work was done for my mother whose home is in Colonial Beach, Virginia. She did a google search for window replacements and called several providers for an estimate. HCR was the only one that she felt really knew what she wanted. They were very quick to set up an appointment to discuss her needs. The distance was not an issue for them. They were very professional and patient with her myriad of questions. Not once did they make her feel as if they were trying to take advantage of her age or gender. They were completely respectful toward all of us. The workers showed up 20 minutes early! Imagine that! The team that showed up was Carlos, Miguel and Luis. They were 100% professional, clean, and quick! They worked through that project like a well oiled machine! And this was no easy install! The space between the windows was uneven -- no problem! The size of each window was different -- no problem! They never complained or acted as if this was a problem job (even though we knew it was). They cleaned up after themselves. They even washed the windows and re-installed all of the blinds! Communication with them was a breeze! No language barriers at al! This was very comforting for my mom since her hearing is not as good as it used to be and she has difficulty understanding anyone with a thick accent. I highly recommend this company!

They called the day before to confirm the appointment, which I confirmed. Then they called the morning of to make sure I was home and confirm details. I was home because I needed to meet with them so I rearranged to work from home that day. This is where it all took a very weird 1950s-like turn. The man confirming wanted to be sure my husband would be home. I said he wouldn't be. He offered to reschedule for a time where we could both be there. Evenings and weekends and the like. I actually set the appointment for the time that was most convenient for us, so today would be fine I said. But the man insisted that they would not come by and provide the estimate if my husband wasn't at home, because what if they came out and met with me and then my husband had additional questions. I asked whether the concern was whether I had the authority to make housing or financial decisions independently. No, no, he said, but they can only give free estimates if they can speak with both owners of the house to make sure they have full approval. At this point I cancelled the estimate, reminded the man that I was approached and sold on the estimate by their company, I did not seek it out. I rearranged my schedule to meet them, and then was told they were concerned I couldn't properly explain the information to my husband. To sum up, I don't want the estimate, and when I get my insulation replaced I will do so with a company that recognizes that busy schedules, marital divisions of labor, and control of household finances have changed a slight bit in the last 50 years. This was one of the more bizarre conversations I've ever had and I told my husband (as he chuckled about them picking the wrong woman to mess with) I was halfway convinced it must be a practical joke.
Description of Work: I was at a festival with my family when a salesperson approached with a spiel about siding (which we don't need), a roof (which we don't need) and finally insulation (which we have somewhere on our long list of house priorities). I agreed to have someone come by to give me a free estimate because the salesperson was nice and the estimate would be good for a year.

Homefix Custom Remodeling (HCR) apparently does not want my business. I had decided that I would have a new roof put on in November. So,when someone came to my door a few days later offering a roof estimate, I was very interested. He told me that his company was putting on a roof for one of our neighbors, so I might notice an increase in traffic and noise. In response to my interest, he called a supervisor who scheduled an appointment with me the next day at 4:00. After the call, I asked the person at our door which neighbor was having a new roof. He admitted that there was no neighbor getting a new roof, and that that was ?just something [they] say. 30 minutes before the appointment for the estimate the next day, a representative from the company called to tell me the salesman would be late. She also wanted to be sure that my wife would be present for the estimate. I told her my wife would not be here. She said both owners needed to be present for the estimate. So, I cancelled the appointment. 2 days later, a salesperson called to set up another appointment. I explained my wife would not be here, and that I would be making decisions for this contract. He agreed that women were more interested in curtains than roofs, and he set up an appointment for the next day. He apologized and offered a discount of $1500.00 from whatever his estimate would be. The next day, the same representative who had confirmed the first appointment called, telling me my wife needed to be present for the estimate. She told me that the person who made the appointment should not have scheduled an appointment without my wife being present. I told her my wife would not be here. She thanked me and hung up. Later in the day, another representative called to say they were sending someone out in an hour. The person never showed...never called. Without exaggeration, I had not one positive experience with this company. Needless to say, I don?t want to do business with a company with such bad business tactics. However, I am unclear why my wife needs to be present if this company only wants to give an estimate. I need no financing and I will be making the decisions. Apparently, that is not good enough for (HCR).

I am sorry to read this review. We are a distributor of all roofing materials on the market place and a master Elite roof installer.. Now, with that said, the market place is quite confusing. The only reason we ask to have any and all decision makers to be present is to ensure that we can estimate the roof properly and we do not waste your time. This is going to be a rather large investment whenever you decide to get this done and it literally is going to be the roof over your head for years and years.. I am sure you can appreciate the sensitive nature in this and I can only hope you can respect the fact that we opt not to rush through such a delicate and costly investment. If i can be of any service to you, please feel free to reach out to me on my personal cell phone at (443)0846-8808. Be well, Jonathan M

They told me on the phone that they would come give me a estimate on my roof and that they would leave the estimate with me and it would be good for a year. That wasn't the case. He was very pushy he didn't want to here that I wanted to take time to think about it. I was going to use them, but I couldnt make a decision on the spot like that. Definitely wouldn't use them just for that reason. When I plan to spend that amount of money on anything. I need time to think about it. Everything he said sounded great I didn't know him or much about the company at that point so I wasn't going to make a decision then. Its like going into a store with a salesman following you around and being pushy. I go in because I'm thinking about buying something but they don't give you your space or time to think. Its a big turn off to me. I don't go into those kinds of stores anymore and I wouldn't use a company that doesn't want to hear that you want to think about it. If there so sure of themselves and there product . Then they shouldn't have anything to worry about.

HomeFix Custom Remodeling (HCR) replaced my neighbor's roof and now I have new rakeboard damage and a new 2-foot crack/cracked section of driveway. On 8-11-15 an Allied Building Products Corporation truck driver delivering materials for HCR to use the next day, drove at an angle over both our driveways, cracking sections on each driveway. Stuff happens, not HCR's fault (insurance claim/complaint pending against that company) but a preview of what was to come. The HCR crew came the next am, 8-12-15, to begin the roof job and decided blocking my driveway to unload more material was okay. I told them to move, since there was ample parking just in front of my neighbor's house, across the street-other places besides the front of my driveway. When I came out later, I saw the HCR crew now decided putting some of their materials on my roof was okay. My property is taller/roof higher than the end unit townhome HCR was working on. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON WHY THE HCR CREW NEEDED TO PUT ANYTHING ABOVE ONTO MY ROOF. Despite the number and content of negative Angie's List Reviews for HCR, my neighbor contracted to have HCR crew+materials on his roof, I DID NOT. Since I didn't plan on babysitting a HCR crew to protect my property that day, I could only check periodically as the job progressed. Unfortunately, I didn't view roof again until complete, HCR crew gone. Now my rakeboard had scratches, paint chipped/missing-additional damage neither I nor my contractor noticed a few days prior. A HCR rep., canvassing neighborhood for more work that pm, said inform Baltimore office of damage and another HCR crew could fix. Once I stopped laughing, I said no thanks-not only was your first impression poor but HCR won't get another chance to damage my property. HCR crew is not professional, just terrible so I wouldn't VOLUNTARILY let them onto my property to apply wood filler/paint or indeed anything!. I posted this review to urge anyone who still chooses to contract with HomeFix Custom Remodeling (HCR) to at least give your neighbors notice of the increased likelihood of damage to their property from this Larry, Moe & Curly operation.

Excellent ! I would have let them put their sign but it is against HOA rules.
Description of Work: they did front door (total rebuild of frame and pre-hung exterior door. they did new energy efficient windows and trim . My only regret is that I did not have them do the other windows that I had done 2 years ago by another company. These are much nicer they also did attic insulation.

HCR was professional and responsive. They were done in one day, and did a great job cleaning up. We had a lot of heavy rain in the weeks following installation and there have been no problems.

They do beautiful work, their work is excellent, but, they're very expensive, and they did cut my price down. It's a very nice looking roof, the birds in my neighborhood love my roof. It was a very expensive roof, a 20 year warranty on the roof. They told me that I was paying for quality. Anybody that has money should go with this company. The men came out here on time and were very professional. They had one guy that watched over all our safety. I was here in the house and I didn't think that they were that noisy. They weren't here a full day, they started at 7:30 in the morning and were done by two in the afternoon. They had a lot of people here. It was trash day and I went into the garage and he told all the men to stop and he took my trash out. The supervisor did nothing but, watch people and take my trash out.

Background I am a repeat customer of Homefix and previously had new windows installed after checking Angies List reviews. I couldn't have been happier with the windows. Roofing is a completely different story. Homefix does a lot of door-to-door promotion in my neighborhood. I knew I needed a new roof for the last couple of years. I had Dryhome come out to fix a leaky roof and they told me I needed a new roof. Dryhome told me that all the plywood was rotted and quoted $8000. The roof held up through this summer, but I decided I needed to get it done this year. Homefix stopped by during one of their door-to-door marketing and offered to provide a quote for the roof. Eric took measurements, ran numbers, discussed the job, and provided an estimate. He did explain that there was some variability in the price based on the amount of plywood that needed to be replaced, but that they can usually re-use most of it. The quote was for $7650. In addition, I felt comfortable even with 10-15% increase if more needed to be replaced. I proceeded based on prior experience with Homefix and their estimate being better than the Dryhome estimate 2 years prior. It's a large job to me, so I opted for their 18 month interest free financing. Eric followed up with me and told me I needed to sign some documents before the job was complete. I believe these were authorization forms. If you sign these documents before the work is complete, there is no leverage if you have a dispute. I would opt to find your own financing through a Home Equity LoC. On the day of the job, I walked out of the house and almost had shingles thrown on top of my head by the roofers. I then got a call shortly after that from the roofing manager. He explained that all of the plywood was rotted and that it would be another $4000. All 800 Sq. Ft. of plywood was rotted at $5/sq ft. He explained that they couldn't tell the plywood was rotted until they removed the shingles. I had no roof and heavy thunderstorms forecast for the afternoon. I had no choice. There was no alternative solution to assist me with financing other than to say they could add it to my loan. As soon as I reluctantly agreed for them to proceed (what option did I have with no roof), they gave a half hearted sorry and hung up. The final cost was $11650, a 52% increase from the original estimate. After the work was complete, there was no follow up. The gutters were not re-attached properly and the attic insulation folks didn't stay on the joists, so I have nail pops in my ceiling everywhere. Regarding the roof and insulation, I think the quality of the work is good. However, after discussing with colleagues and some other contractors, there should never have been an estimate off by 52%. Update 8/14/2015: Grades have been revised upward slightly with more to go pending completion. Homefix has followed up since this review. To account for the difference in cost, Homefix offered extended financing for the extra $4000 which helps alleviate the financial burden significantly. I'm waiting for follow up regarding the gutters.

Installation went as scheduled. They had to replace a lot of plywood which added to the cost. I was disappointed with their cleaning up after the installation. I called the office and they sent someone out to complete additional cleanup. I would have been happier had I gone with another company which would have installed the same shingles for a lot less money. My own fault for not doing my homework. As far as I'm concerned it was a BIG mistake.
