SALES, INSTALLATION & REPAIR OF HEATING & COLOLING SYSTEMS.
He diagnosed the problem immediately and accurately, and he maid the necessary repairs just as quick. However, he was 40 minutes late to meet me in the morning, and 1 hour late to meet me again later that day (I had to go back to work in between and he had to run and get the part to fix the motor). But I called many many companies before calling him, and nobody could get out to fix my heat pump the next day except for him. And it was nice that he came back the same day to make the repair after the problem was diagnosed. I also felt that the price was good but I am not an expert on what it should cost to repair a heat pump motor.

Ken does a lot of HVAC work in our area and it took some time to work out the schedule. We liked that he had a lot of good ideas about what solution would work best in our home. He also has a very sound understanding of the limitations of old houses, and he was sensitive to our efforts to leave the homes innate character in tact. He offered a solution that avoided extraneous duct work through living spaces. Ken also advised us and our electrician on a heavy up to ensure that our electrical capacity was sufficient for the job and that the placement of the lines in the attic and roof would work with his plan. Other contractors had recommended more drastic solutions, like a package system, creating additional vertical bulkheads or eating precious closet space, and installing two high efficiency units for a dual system that would have significantly exceeded the cooling load demand for the downstairs (not to mention the extra cost). %20 efficiency gain on %20 of the load is only %4 overall gain and not worth thousands of dollars. We are very pleased with our AC system and certainly do not miss the window units inherited from previous owners. The system keeps the house at a very comfortable temperature during the worst summer humidity. A number of other contractors who have seen our basement have remarked favorably about the quality of the visible duct work and the attention to detail. Ken is very busy and often shuttles between jobs/managing subs, but the attention to detail and quality of work is very good. Organization is one area which could have been stronger (paperwork, scheduling), but the work ethic and quality are both outstanding. Ken took great care with our house and provided a modern convenience without sacrificing the home's historic character.
Description of Work: Installed dual zone central air conditioning system in our 100 year old rowhouse. Intalled duct work in the attic to reach the upper floors and duct work in the basement to reach ground floor (and basement). Installed ceiling registers upstairs and floor registers on the ground floor (plus one for the basement). High efficiency unit installed for upper floors to handle %80 of the cooling load and a smaller unit installed in basement to handle %20 of load. Installed thermostat upstairs for upper unit and tied into existing house thermostat on ground floor also used for radiant heat. The installation occured in stages. It was performed during the winter, so the time imperative was less pressing. We would have prefered to have it done in a short time window, but the work was largely performed outside of our living space and not overly invasive.

I think the owner, Ken, is very knowledgeable and has a lot of experience and expertise. He discussed options on cost and stayed closely involved with his crew. His depth of experience was great; his education and training was obvious, explaining the volume and flow of the air for example. He knows his work, and he was able to catch some previous work that was done incorrectly. He was also able to swap out equipment with more appropriate equipment, saving us some money.
Description of Work: We got the whole heating and cooling system for the house.
