I was impressed with his knowledge and how much he was willing to share as he did things. He did not even any dirt anywhere. He covered everything first, did the work, and left here and it was as neat as a pin.

He was punctual, knowledgeable, and friendly. We would definitely use them again.

We have a gas fireplace which had not been cleaned in years. Upon moving in, we also learned that we had had mice in our attic and inside our walls. That problem had been resolved, but I was still a bit apprehensive about cleaning behind the glass on the fireplace. I saw that this provider not only was a highly rated Angie's List provider, but also had experience with animal removal, so I gave them a call. Dave gave me a quote and came as expected (actually earlier than scheduled, which was convenient). He vacuumed and cleaned the inside of the fireplace. He confirmed that there were no animals in there, a relief to me. He inspected it and made sure it was working properly. He inspected the exterior with binoculars and warned us about the crumbling/missing bricks that he saw from the outside. He gave us recommendations on when and how to repair it. He also gave me a quick tutorial on the system. I was unaware that we had a fan blower; how it worked, how to manually light the fireplace, etc. He also noted that we were missing a remote control and recommended how to obtain a new one. I actually learned a lot about our fireplace - how it operates and its capabilities. I found Dave to be professional, competent, and honest. He did what he said he would do; and charged what he said he would charge. I would certainly call on him again.

It was easy to make an appointment- there were multiple days available and they worked around the holidays & my night-shift work schedule. The gentleman arrived & met my husband right on time; I never even heard him arrive. He inspected our chimey, informed us we didn't need a cleaning, so only charged us for the inspection. We did have a crack in the back of the fireplace, which he was able to install a heat shield over.

Dave helped us fix our gas insert fireplace over the phone. We moved into our house a few months ago, and despite several attempts, we could not figure out how to make the gas insert fireplace turn on. I had read Dave's reviews on Angie's List, and had planned on asking him to come out and service the fireplace. When I called, Dave said that we could probably work it out together over the phone and save some money. Dave was very thorough and walked me through step-by-step to help get the fireplace working. He told me what to do and said he would wait while I put the phone down and followed his directions. He was very patient and and thorough, answering all of my questions. He said himself that he probably saved me about $150, which I would have gladly paid to have him come and do the work himself. I was simply blown away by Dave's honesty and attitude. Having just moved into a 50+ year-old house, there are many issues that must be addressed, and we have already been taken advantage of more than one company, and will most likely be taken advantage of again. It is so refreshing to have an honest buisness run by an honest person. The only thing Dave asked in return was for me to call him when I needed my dryer vents serviced. I will definitely call him for that, and I whole-heartedly suggest that you call him if you need help with dryer vents, fireplace work, or any other related service.

The owner of the business and his son came to inspect my chimney and tell me if it needed to be swept. They were EARLY for the service call, which was great. They looked at the chimney, said it didn't need to be swept, but that I should probably do it next year. They noticed signs of water, looked outside for serious leaks, were thorough but didn't try to convince me to get service I didn't need. It was worth the $25 for peace of mind when I light a fire this winter. I'll definitely call them next Fall for a sweep.

Scheduling was a small problem. They cancelled the first appointment the evening before, saying that the worker had fallen ill. After that we played telephone tag for about a week until we could set up a new time. The second time there were no difficulties. The man they sent, Mac, showed up right on schedule. He took a look in our fireplace and chimney and then told me that the chimney was relatively clean and did not need to be serviced, and that he did not want to charge me for unneeded work. This impressed me - he could have said it needed to be cleaned, charged me the full $140, and I'd never have known otherwise. He pointed out that the flue was open, letting out the warm air, and went ahead and closed it, then pointed out a small crack in the brick that could be a problem in the future. They only charged me $40 for the visit and inspection. Mac's honesty is much appreciated and I plan to use these guys in the future when the time comes.

Very professional. They were able to come out within a week of my call. It had been at least 2-years since we'd had our chimney cleaned and previously we had been told that we'd need to install a liner and have estimates of over $3000 as there were multiple cracks. After inspecting and then cleaning the chimney with his son, Jonathan, David told us that he didn't see any cracks and that our chimney looked fine and was good to go. They covered all the furniture and were very tidy. The cost was also very reasonable. Both my husband and I thought that they were very thorough and would definitely recommend them highly!

Dave and his son Jonathan arrived a few minutes early, and went over thoroughly that we had talked about over the phone. They were thorough, courteous, communicative, and very tidy. Dave explained thoroughly the condition of the fireplace and ducts, and gave me a good idea about how often to have my chimney cleaned. I definitely plan to call him next time I need these services performed.

David arrived on time and quickly analysed the problem and gave an estimate. He then promptly fixed the chimney and told me how he went about it. He did not try to sell us any services (like sweeping the chimney or our dryer vent) that we didn't yet need.

We thought we had a chimney fire and needed to have it cleaned and inspected. To my surprise David said there was no evidence of a chimney fire and everything was in good shape. He pointed out a few cracks to keep an eye on, but told me that it was not severe enough to need repair and he recommended a heat reflector to give me a few more years before I needed to repair the crack. I purchased a reflector from him, but did not feel obligated to buy one from him. He was very knowledgeable about his craft and was very honest and trustworthy and never tried to squeeze me for more money. I would highly recommend 2 Hats.

Very happy with service. Quick response to the inquiry, Dave (as I remember) came out to inspect the chimney without charge and gave us all the information what needed to be done to pass inspection. He came by several times to complete the work.

I called and explained the algae problem. He came the next day to remove it. He recommended that the crown be repaired. I called to arrange for the repair and he said he needed two good weather days. He came on a clear Saturday to do the work. Everything went well. He charged exactly what he estimated.

Although other chimney people suggested elaborate methods of chimney waterproofing, crown waterproofing, and lock down dampers, Two Hats recommended a good sweeping first, then additional things as needed. We've taken the first step in having the chimney thoroughly swept. Last year's sweeping was a fraction of what Two Hats did. I highly recommend this company. In fact, I've already referred them to a close family friend.

The price I paid was the lowest of the three quotes that I obtained. Dave did a top quality job installing the new chase cover. Dave finished the job within just over an hour of arrival. He even took the time to explain how to keep the fireplace in good working order. I also pointed out some loose masonry on the exterior of our chimney that he advised to leave alone until there was a noticeable problem (i.e. water leaking). I would have paid him to repair the masonry, but he gave an honest assessment instead.

Dave showed up early (which worked out well), explained thoroughly that he would clean the chimney and then inspect it. He provided a written estimate, based on that part of the service. The chimney had not been cleaned or maintained in over 20 years. He found some firebrick in the fireplace that had not been properly mortared, cleaned debris from in back of the damper, removed birds nests, installed a stainless steel cap, and sealed the mortar at the top of the chimney. At each juncture he informed me of his findings and the cost. He also told me what did not need to be done, such as relining. Since I had known that the cost would be higher than just the cost for cleaning, I appreciated Dave's complete explanation of the additional work. He cleaned up everything afterwards. When I was presented with the bill, he had reduced the overall cost of the job. Good job at a very fair price.

What they were able to do was very minimal, but they did help us. They were the only company that could come out the same day we called. They were very professional and we'd call them back if we have a need in the future.

I asked for our chimney to be inspected and got much more. Not only did Mr. Kilpatrick inspect our chimney he also tightened our flute and reviewed general fireplace use, safety and maintenance with me. My husband is interested in installing a wood burning stove. Mr. Kilpatrick stayed additional time to answer all his questions even though he had been done with the inspection and was ready to leave when my husband got home. I learned a lot and all for 25$. We ended up not needing the chimney sweeped after all.

Covered furnishings and rugs, brought in a high powered vac and cleaned the hearth, flue and chimney without any mess. Did an inspection, declared everything in good condition. Offered suggestion when asked about conversion to gas fired logs (which would put him out of business)

Dave was very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. He knocked $200 off the total bill because it was getting to be higher than estimated. He even showed me how to properly use a ladder and made sure I climbed up to the roof ok. He worked for about 4 or 5 hours straight without a taking a break.

I called David 3 days ago as I kept hearing animal sounds from our chimney. He was sure no animals could have got into the chimney as it is capped. David remembers each customer even after several years !! But he came out the same afternoon, saw a hole in the soffit near the chimney and said it could be squirrels or racoons. As it was raining and the weather was going to be wet for several days, he said he would be back Friday if the weather was okay to take care of it. I noticed squirrels going up and down the back of the house and called to tell him that. David was here this morning and removed the nest and put up a wire screen. We still need to have the soffit and some siding repaired. Wish David could do that also! David charged us a very reasonable sum for his time. I did not even get an estimate ahead of time as I trust him and know he is honest.

Everything worked out fine. I can't really inspect the work, but it is doing what it is supposed to do.
