Description of Work: We requested a second opinion after having our chimney swept by Complete Chimneys who told us we needed over 900$ of work on our chimney! Mr. Dave came and gave us a comprehensive, understandable, choice driven report, IN PERSON. We were very glad we did a second opinion and did not sucumb to this sales driven company! He also indicated they did not do a great job...giving them about an 80% having left alot of creasote etc around the firebox. Not to mention the fact that our dislocated chimney damper was ajar and they didn't put it back into place! My husband did it!!! We will be taking Dave's advice (2 Hats) and our costs will be under 200$. Be very wary when you are told you need liners, Heat Shield product etc. It is worth getting a second opinion. Beware of Complete Chimneys! Thanks Dave!

Description of Work: approximatly the top 8 feet of the chimney and crown was parged with a waterprofing stucco finish during the earthquake morning. The two men who did the work were very polite, answered all questions and concerns and did a very professional job. David came 2 days later to check the work and look at a inside fireplace concern. He explained the anatomy of my firebox assembly and suggested a very easy and inexpensive fix that I could do myself. When David came for the estimate he gave me the best solution for my concerns of surface cracks and incomplete parging work done when an extension was done years ago with the best product and warranty for my situation and the best price for the work with details of the work.

 + -1 moreHe cleaned just the one that needed cleaning. Also remove a broken part that was not required and blocked proper chimney operation. Repaired a leaky gasket on the wood burning stove. Gave me the full lowdown on how to best use both units. This was one of the most important parts of the call. Very helpful service call. Did just what I needed to have done.

 + 0 moreWe moved into our house this summer. We contacted Dave to inspect a wood burning fireplace and a pellet stove before attempting to use either one. Dave was very professional. He described in detail the results of his inspection. Neither unit appeared to have been cleaned in many years. We proceeded to have each cleaned. Dave quoted a fixed price for each, including a 10% discount for more than one unit. He covered his work area with tarps and spent the next two hours cleaning. After the cleanout, he walked us through a written report on the condition of the units, and provided advice on how to best use them.
Description of Work: Inspected wood burning fireplace and chimney. Inspected pellet stove and chimney. Cleaned both based on inspection. Provided detailed written report.

 + -1 moreThey had come and cleaned my chimney and ducts before. I thought the chimney was leaking, so I called them back. He came and gave me an estimate and the prices are always reasonable. He first tried to patch and caulk it but ended up having to replace the chimney cap. He did this in order to provide a short term fix that was necessary, knowing that it was possible the chimney cap would need to be replaced.

 + 1 moreGreat. Dave cleaned everything thoroughly, checked everything out, and gave me a condition report. He told me what would need attention further down the road, and he also told me what does NOT need to be done. For example, he said not to let anyone tell me the chimney needs to be relined. He also told me how to use my wood stove (I've never had one before), pointing out that it didn't have a damper so I needed to close the doors for the first few minutes after lighting it. I really felt like Dave went above and beyond the call of duty.

 + -1 moreVery well with one minor glitch. Dave and his son arrived on time and did a thorough job. Dave gave me a lot of information about my house (I bought it recently) and even showed me stuff like how to turn on my HVAC's humidifier (I wish the guys who installed it would have told me that!). He gave me advice when I asked and was generally very clear about what was happening. The only glitch was that a floor was scratched when Dave's son moved some furniture to get to a vent. Dave made it right by reducing the cost, but I would have greatly appreciated knowing that the furniture needed to be moved so that I could secure fragile items and assist in the moving. I would definitely use this company again, and I will be recommending it to anyone who asks!

 + -1 moreDavid arrived promptly and even told us he remembered being here 7 years before and exactly what had been done at that time. He inspected the fireplace and then went up on the roof and inspected the chimney. Repairs were done in a timely manner and we are very pleased with the service.
Description of Work: We had water come down our chimney after the heavy rains this past weekend. We had used this company about 7 years before and they had resealed the flashing. This time Dave also said, he thought that might be the solution and went up to take a look. He resealed the flashing and advised us that if the problem repeated we might need a more expensive waterproofing. We have full confidence and trust this company, 100%. It would be so easy to recommend an expensive repair and we would never know if it was really needed. David is a honest professional and we would recommend this company highly.

 + 0 moreDave Kilpatrick was very honest, right from the beginning on the phone. He came that week, provided an assessment of the chimney and the work it really needed, not a total replacement of the flue. He cleaned the chimney and we received the good news that a new flue was not necessary, which another company claimed was necessary without actually cleaning the chimney (apparently they had ESP). The visit was thorough and we ordered a new damper and chimney caps. He returned a second time and realized the new damper didn't fit (no charge) and then came back a third time to install the lock-top damper, the chimney cap, and clean the ash dump. We are very pleased with the service, which was efficient and cordial. All work was quoted before execution and no unnecessary extras were added to the quote.
Description of Work: First visit: chimney cleaning and measurement for chimney cap. Second visit: realization ordered damper would not fit. Third visit: Installation of lock-top damper, dual chimney cap, cleaning of ash dump, and removal of antennae.
