Thompson Creek Window Company

The gutter crew arrived on time with all equipment. Emanuel said he was the crew leader and only spoke some English. I called Thompson Creek and they immediatley sent a Quality Assurance mannager to go over the details of the gutter installation. The notes of the placement of gutters were not complete. The QA manager gave thorough instructions about where we wished additions to the gutter system that we used to have. As far as the quality of thework done, we have no problems. We've had very heavy rains and our gutter are perfect for catching and expelling the water away from the house. Still, the day could have been easier had someone on the gutter crew spoken English. All the work is guarranteed; the actual product is great, but I hope that future projects with Thompson Creek will include someone who speaks English fluently.

My neighbor was getting the windows in his townhouse replaced, so I decided to get mine done too. He had done the research, so I relied on his assessment of Thompson's reliablity - local company - in business a long time - known for being reliable. Negotiating the price was uncomplicated because I knew I would have the windows replaced if I thought the price was acceptable. All Thompson employees I dealt with were courteous. Thompson wanted my opinion on performance during all phases - negotiating price, measuring, letting me know when the windows were ready for installation, and the actual installation. One window cracked. The crew told me about this, and another window was manufactured and installed as soon as possible. The crew made sure they did a good job of clean-up. I was very pleased with Thompson's performance and customer service.

Overall the experience was not great. I've been shopping around for window quotes and simply wanted to get someone to come out, take measurements and get a quote. Thompson Creek is obviously a larger company and the service over the phone was bureaucratic and unfriendly. It took several minutes to get the operator to even discuss sending someone out. They wanted to ask several pointless questions before they would even ask about the address, type of windows, times, etc. They were more interested in getting all the personal data for my wife and me and finding out how we heard about them. The operator simply ran through a script and wouldn't continue when I didn't want to answer his questions. After nearly 20 minutes on the phone, when I mentioned that I wanted wood windows because I am in a historic district, the operator told me Thompson Creek couldn't work in historic districts because they didn't want to get the permits. When I told them I already had an HPO-approved permit, they said they still wouldn't work. Bottom line for DC-residents to note: Thompson Creek will not work in Historic Districts

It was a huge process, and it took them one day to finish the job. The quality of their product stood out and the information that they gave us was accurate. They do windows, doors, and rain gutters. The crew was polite and courteous. They did what they said they would. We had one area that was leaking, and we would not have known because it was a rain gutter. We called them on a Saturday and they actually picked up the telephone and came out and fixed it. There was no problem and there were no questions asked. Since the work was done outside I did not even have to be home for them to come out and fix it. We got what we paid for and are very happy with them. I would definitely recommend them.

The job was perfect. We are very happy with them because our house was drafty and air was coming in everywhere and it is now sealed up really well. We just bought the house and we could walk in and feel the breeze even though the windows were closed because it was old and in bad shape.

My interaction with them went well. They were prompt. Their service was great, and the windows look good. They were timely. I would use them again in the future if needed.

We contacted them based on their advertisement and recommendations. By the time the sales rep got there I was going with them as long as the price was in the ballpark. We booked the latest appointment possible. The sales rep was nice enough the used car sales pitch is longer than it has to be and starts getting a little too much. Paperwork is signed, 8:30pm Friday night and by Monday morning the Finance and Distribution departments have called. The individual who does the detailed measuring comes out Xmas Eve and we are done. A month goes by and we haven't heard anything. I called the Customer Service Department and get the response, "If you haven't heard from us in a week, give us a call". I might be asking for too much but it seems that if you order $20K of doors and windows they could call you. I call back in a week and get the Customer Service Supervisor who explains that their system is being converted over and he "swears" he'll call me "personally" Monday. No call came !!!! I called back the following Monday and happen to get the right person who scheduled my install. The install went great. The crew came on time, did a great, great job. Two-three weeks after the install I get a survey asking my opinion. I proceeded to tell them about my issue with the Customer Service department. Three days later I get a call from Thompson. Instead of asking about the problem it was a call to determine when they can sell me more windows. I have no problem with the windows and despite the customer service issue would strongly consider brining them back but I'm going to go to more companies for estimates next time. Thompson's sells you on the concept that they are better than other vendors because they care. Truth is they aren't much better than most. They should just stick with selling better quality windows.

The original estimator came out on time to look at the window and review the options with me. He took measuements and estimated a timeframe and took my downpayment. Days later, someone from their office called to ensure that I was satisfied so far. This gave me a warm feeling. A few weeks later, another man came to recheck the measurements and to test for paint lead.This too made me feel warm. Finally, the installers came out about 10 minutes earlier than projected. They put down drop cloths and quickly and cleanly removed the old and installed the new. The product looks great and I feel warm. My only complaints are that it seemed to take too long from contract to installation, and the price was a little high, but if that's what it takes to get a professional job, it was worth it.

They have a very hard sell approach. They want to get you buy immediately. They give an outrageous price, and then they bring it down to what if it will if we sign today and they again bring it down if you sign today and allow you to put a sign out. I didn't care for the high pressure sales. To an extent, while they are sitting here, when they are here going over the actual estimate, there is a pressure to sign that day. We just don't do things that way. The actual product and installation was good, but getting the estimate wasn't. Their price was actually what they finally came down to. We had the two different sides; the estimator and the installer. The installer was good but the estimator wasn?t. People will be aware. I will contact them again for estimates but I am not sure if I would use them again. I would give them another chance at it.

We arranged for a home visit for a window quote at Thompson Creek?s booth at a local home show. We told the rep working the booth that we were getting several quotes and would not make a decision until we had seen all the vendors. He said this was not a problem and that their quotes are good for one year. The representative showed up at our house on time and made an excellent presentation. He was very energetic and extremely knowledgeable about the product and did a great job. We told him that we were not making a decision that night and he reiterated that their quotes are good for one year. After he measured the 18 windows to be replaced, he gave us a quote that was, frankly, considerably less than I was expecting. After we said thanks and we?d let him know, the hard sell started. While the quote was good for one year, the 30% discount was only good thru March ? still not a problem since we expect to make a decision in that timeframe. He threw in an extra 5% if we would sign that night. We said ?no? again. Then his attitude did a 180 degree turn. He became belligerent and kept asking why. He even went so far as to say that the only difference between signing that night and signing later in the month was that he would get paid. Somehow he worked his 3-year-old daughter into the conversation and how he didn?t take too many sales calls a day so that he could spend time with her?I guess we were supposed to feel guilty. Again, they have a great product that seems to be very well received in the marketplace. Based on our experience; however, their sales program needs some serious work on how to cultivate new customers.

We spent $14000 on that service. The job has been okay. They came on time and did the installation and it was all fine. They put up a light that they took down and I told them I did not want it put back, so they have to come and replace the piece siding that they drilled a hole through. I would tell others that I had a pretty good experience and it was just little details and wasn?t a major deal.

Very professional salesman...as with most purchases....no idea if I could have gotten a better deal. Best I could get was 30 percent off list price on the larger order...I like the windows...feel the are superior in quality and am glad I paid the extra money.

We initially purchased 15 windows for our home and were so satisfied with the result (and price) we followed up with two more orders of 30 windows. To summarize, in the last 6 months we have had 45 Thompson Creek windows installed in our home and have been completely satisfied every step of the way. Thompson Creek's highly knowledgeable sales representative (Scott Robinson) expertly described their products and the process for purchase and installation. Installation was done quickly (all in one day), efficiently, and professionally. The windows are well made, highly functional, and come with a guarantee that would be hard to beat. Update; had a minor problem with one of the windows; Thompson Creek was very responsive and made repairs (at no cost to us) during the first service visit. This company really stands by their product!!!! Simply stated; they are the best!

As others have reported getting the initial quote was a process that came with serious pressure, but I knew what to expect from reading other reviews. I wanted a top of the line energy efficient decorative door but I was still surprised by the price and was willing to forgo this project due to the expense. However, with my objections additional discounts kept being offered. I finally agreed to a discounted price that was about 35% lower than their "regular" price. From this point forward I couldn't have been more pleased with the process. The person who came to measure was very helpful in making sure I would be happy with my final selection. The crew who did the installation worked efficiently and neatly and did a wonderful job. A few hours later the same day a supervisor stopped by to inspect the work and make sure I was pleased and answered any final questions I had. This was one expensive door even at the discounted price - but I absolutely love it. It is heavy, energy efficient, perfectly installed, and beautiful.

We did not like them as they had a "hard sell" approach and were pretty pushy. We ended up using another company.

Actually, I thought they were very efficient and polite. They left the place very clean.

The first time my wife called they told us we had to be the homeowners for them to even come out. We were 2 weeks away from closing and wanted to start on the work ASAP. When I called back they said that if both of us were present they would provide an estimate. Told us the process would take 2 hours. The sale person was a nice guy, but totally promoting the company - Obama had just visited their factory the week before, they are the best at what they do, can't find a better product for the price, etc. He took over 2 hours to do the estimate and then sat us down to review the estimate. Well, the price came in WAY over our budget but since this was the first company we talked to we wanted to see if we needed to reset our budget expectations. This is when the HARD SELL started - and he said about 5 times that they do not believe in the hard sell (their products and service sell themselves, he said). The sales person said, since this is a big job I can give you a discount, but only if you sign today - otherwise we had to pay the higher amount. We told him that since this was a lot of money and we wanted to get some more quotes before we made a decision. He continued to push and lowered the price again and said, "You have NO IDEA what I am giving you here." As we got us from the table he told us if we signed the contract he would hold the price, and that we could always cancel if we just called the office and told them we did not close on the house (which would be a lie). This whole process took almost 3 hours. At the end of the day my wife and I decided that we did not want to spend this amount of money with a company that had these sales tactics. I call the office and told them that I had been part of timeshare sales pitches that were less high pressure than this experience.

This job was done well and at a price that was better than several estimates from other companies. The salesman (estimator) worked hard to sell us and gave us a number of "sales and rebates". I'm not sure if they were real or not but the job was professionally done and the gutters look great!

I am very happy with them. They are a local company. Their prices are little bit on the higher side but they do excellent work. They come and measure your windows and then build them. They do customer windows. I rate them high overall except the price. I will use them in the future. I am planning to call them soon.

They arrived as scheduled. Explained what they would be doing. They removed the old gutters. Installed new gutters on front and back of house and carport. Removed all trash from premises. The staff was very professional. They did an excellent job in removing all of the debris so that you couldn't even tell that they had been there, except for the beautiful new covered gutters.

Mostly good. The technical people, the person who took the measurements and the three-person crew who installed the windows and the door, were consistently good. They were polite. They knew what they were doing, and they were efficient. They provided helpful, complete answers to our questions. And, in the case of the person who took the measurements, Mervin, he went out of his way to help us solve a technical problem related to matching the color of the existing trim around the windows (we chose not to wrap the trim and it was too cold to paint the new trim that replaced some rotted wood). All these technical people were very professional. Also, the new windows and the door are very nice. They seem to fit the old frames well, except that the new door is a standard size that is a little wider and a little shorter than the old door -- we took it to avoid the delay to build a custom door. The installers compensated appropriately for the difference in size, and they trimmed the door nicely. All the products look good, both outside our house and inside our house. One of our neighbors gave us a nice compliment the same day that they were installed. All of the products are easy to use. And we think they will be easy to maintain. Thompson Creek products cost more than many others. Thompson Creek presents itself as a company that provides high-quality products and service. The parts of the overall experience that were not good were all related to communications from the company's office. The company made a last-minute mistake in scheduling or communications that was a frustrating nuisance for us. We were not happy with the office's response when we tried to understand what had happened and to work with Customer Service to reduce the impact on us. We were unhappy enough that we filed a complaint with Angie's List. To their credit, the company responded quickly and appropriately. After that, the installation took place without any further problems on a new date.

Made appointment for free estimate, company very responsive and accommodating with scheduling. Factory rep Al Kowalski came out for a consultation and estimate on October 13th. He was excellent - friendly, knowledgeable, professional. Demonstrated the product. We had done some research so he cut right to the chase rather than going through the entire sales routine. We were especially happy with the lifetime warranty and the fact that the company is local, and all windows are custom made in Landover. Worked with us to obtain discounts and set up financing. Company kept in regular contact to advise us of the progress of ur window manufacture. Installation arranged for Saturday, December 11th, in time to receive tax credit. Day before install, company called to confirm details and arrival time. We were advised that the sliding glass door we ordered had not arrived yet. When we told them that our home security company would charge us to come out again when the door is installed, company stated they would cover the cost as a courtesy due to the inconvenience. Turns out, it all worked out for the best! Initially we were advised that it would take the crew 6 to 8 hours to install the 12 windows. Our 2-man crew, Brandon and Andrew, arrived exactly on time on Saturday (9:30am) and worked nearly 12 hours to get 8 windows installed. They returned first thing Sunday morning and worked until around 4pm to install the remaining 4 windows. It was their day off, and it was cold and raining, but they worked tirelessly until the job was done. They did excellent work and were so personable and professional, despite the considerable challenges of having to rip 12 old windows out of a 20 year old townhouse. We could not have been happier with the end result. We love our new windows and are looking forward to having our sliding glass door installed - hope it will be Brandon and Andrew again! Having new windows installed is a huge undertaking and it is obviously a big investment. We are glad that we chose Thompson Creek and will definitely do business with them again in the future.

They did a very good job! Their representative did a good job explaining their covered guttering system. We had a slight problem with the gutters bowing at the garage line. They came-back out and resolved the issue, which I was happy about.

Salesman wanted to meet with both my wife and I, and this was no problem since he came out on a Sunday when we were both home. Very inexperienced sales person, even wrote down the wrong style door, which we discovered later and corrected. Lots of sales haggling, including the call to the manager, (like buying a car). Be prepared with other prices and be prepared to show them. From the day we ordered, to the day of measurement, to when the door arrived took 6 weeks, then another three weeks until install (9 weeks total). This was a very long wait. I understand that the door is a custom door and takes 4 weeks to build, but we should not have had to wait this long until install. They must be very busy and business is booming, because they only were paid 1/3 before installation and were in no rush to install. Install went smooth, it took about 4 hours. Two friendly employees installed it, a supervisor even stopped buy to answer questions. We probably could have purchased the door cheaper, but we have found out the hard way that the installation is just as important as quality of the product. We paid alittle more and got a very good installation. They installed our windows in May of this year and did a super job, that is why we trusted them again, and would purchase in the future from them.

The presentation was informative, but also very long, approx 3 hrs. The original quote was very high and way above my budget, after the deals and gimmicks, I was able to get them down to 10K. The following Monday, I had a presentation from another quality window company that was MUCH lower than Thompson, around 3-4K. There was a clause in the Thompson Creek contract that provides a grace period for canceling the contract. I went to their showroom in MD and spoke to them about it. After some more talking with another sales guy, they managed to knock off an additional 3K. By this time it was about 1K away from the competitor, but the shady sales tactics were too much and I declined on principle. They did refund the deposit in accordance with the contract. I'm sure Thompson Windows has quality windows, but plan on having to deal with the sales guy. The initial price was double the final price. My suggestion is to get other estimates before going to Thompson Creek so you can get an idea of what's reasonable.
