Highly recommend this company. They came out and installed our foyer window, the crew took their time and were very professional. They spent quite sometime getting the window free of all smudges. The manager even stopped by after the work was done to inspect and to make sure we were happy with the product. We have a fabulous lifetime warranty on the window they installed.

They didn't show up for the appt. I called and didn't get an answer. I emailed them at 7:15 and didn't get a reply that night. Figured something had gone wrong. Their explanation the next day was that there was a dispatcher error and I had not been on the schedule. They had sent me an advance email confirmation of the appt. so I found this pretty unprofessional and somewhat unbelievable. We set up a second appt. The second appt. was set up for 10 am on Dec 6. By 11 no one had showed and no one had contacted me. I emailed the contact I had and told her I couldn't believe they were standing me up again. As I recall some time, at least several days or maybe even two weeks, went by before they called and wanted to reschedule. I told them no way, I could only imagine how bad their work would be if their sales performance was this bad. Since then they have called and emailed me repeatedly. I unsubscribed from their emails, but despite asking them to quit calling they periodically go on a calling binge. I normally screen their calls and for the last month, they have called both my home and cell phone once a day. I finally answered the phone last week and yelled at the poor young woman who was calling. I told her they had better not ever call me again as I have no intention of buying their windows. Since this is now a year old, I'd have forgotten it, but am only writing this review because of their harassing calls.
Description of Work: I called Thompson Creek to have them come and give me a proposal and estimate for replacing four windows. The appt. was Dec 1, 2011 at 6 pm.

The technicians arrived on time, efficiently removed the old windows, answered all my questions, and cleaned up and removed any trash. One of the two young technicians called my attention to a tear in one of the screens which occurred during shipment. The company immediately set up an appointment for replacement. I'm impressed with the quality of my custom made basement windows. The basement windows have a "tilt-in" cleaning feature just like windows installed in the living quarters. One feature I especially like is the weep hole for rain; it has a cover that falls down over the hole when the rain runs out. Another feature I like is the safety mechanism that lets you adjust the level the window will raise for security purposes. (Another company installed windows a few years back in upstairs living quarters which have a weep hole that bugs crawl in and die between screen frame and window frame so I can't ever open the windows plus I lost half my window sill that my cats liked to sit in since the windows were retrofit and I did not know this till installation was completed and all the windows were $1K each no matter what the size, even a small bathroom window).

They were late. I just thought it was awful and unprofessional. He just insisted on going through his speech on how good the company is before he get to talk about the door. My husband ended up going to bed because they were here for so long. When he finally gave me the quote it was $15,000. I was like you got to be kidding me. He also told me that they were probably going to call me and give me a break in the price. Then, I was waiting for them to call back so that I can complain, but nobody called me. However, I got an e-mail saying to call them if I wanted a reduction.

So far they have been terrible. When I called a few days ago to set up an appointment the sales woman was friendly. Then someone called me at 12:30 to rather forcefully confirm my information and that the sales visit would take 90 minutes. I said it does not take 90 minutes to have a discussion about two windows and then I told her to call back becuase I was in a busy restaurant. Monday morning I get a call from a guy to verify my information. After going through this long song and dance I told him I know the drill and that I would see them at the appointment time. Monday while I am at lunch another guy calls me to verify my information. I told him I keep being bothered by them and to stop calling. He hung up the phone on me. I called later in the afternoon to make sure I still had an appointment (I was afraid at that point it had been cancelled). The person then told me the other person who called "lost the connection" (not true) and that they looked up the property address and that I was not the owner. I told him I am the owner, which he seemed fine with, but he did tell me three times it was state and Federal law to require the homeowner to be there. I finally asked him exactly what state and federal law he was referring to, and he said he don't know. "That is what they tell us to say" he said. There is no state and Federal law of the kind- they are just trying to protect themselves and don't want to waste their time by not meeting with a non-decision maker. This is understandable, but a company shouldn't use a lie to get what they want.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad that we were able to visit you to give you a price to replace the windows in this home. Ideally, it is always better to meet with the homeowner to avoid the need for multiple trips and to help save you time. D.C. Municipal Regulations and D.C. Register Rule 16-808 relates to Home Improvement Contracts. Section 808.3 states “The contract shall be signed by the homeowner and, as the case may be, either by the contractor, or by the salesperson or other agent for the contractor subject to the contractor's approval.” Thank you for allowing us to provide a quote on this project.

I originally called Thompson Creek for a replacement window estimate. They would not schedule an appointment unless I agreed to have my husband present. Their excuse was that they didn't want to have to do 2 presentations. In fact, my husband is not at all interested in their window demo or sales talk. - I am certainly capable of obtaining the information without his presence. I scheduled an appointment in March but cancelled it. I began receiving weekly calls to reschedule although I said I was no longer interested. I repeatedly asked to be removed from the call list. They finally stopped calling in September. Last Saturday a Thompson Creek representative came to my door! I am unhappy with their high pressure sales techniques and want them to leave me alone once and for all. No more calls. No more visits. No junk mail. Nothing.

Bottom Line: Thompson Creek did not complete work at our house, yet are sending us a bill for that work. They have been continually unresponsive to our efforts to resolve the issues, and are now sending us warning notices that our account is being sent to a collection agency. Details of all of our interactions are listed below. It is mind-boggling how bad their communication. We have gone above and beyond to try to get this resolved and no one from Thompson Creek will take care of it. It looks like someone from Thompson Creek responds to Angie's List posts, so I'm hoping this will get it taken care of. Our next step is filing a complaint with the BBB. Timeline: - Feb 2011: We ordered basement windows and 3 storm doors form Thompson Creek (TC). When they came to install them on a Saturday in March of 11, two of the storm doors did not fit. They said they had to re-make those two doors and that they would schedule installation in another 4-6 weeks or so. I paid $1500 with a check for the work completed. - Within the first few days of the next week, I called to speak with someone about the screen doors that were being re-made. I realized the backdoor (the one that they had successfully installed) was not what we had thought we had ordered (they covered too much of our main-door windows and blocked the light coming in and view going out). I wanted to change the remaining order to a door that had more open glass/screen- [Manager name] took the call, said he would get back to me, he didn't. - I called again a week later and he told me the new doors had already been made and couldn't be changed- I did not find that answer acceptable given that I'd tried to talk to him the week before (and they told us it would take 6 weeks to re-make them). He said he would call back with measurements of the doors TC had built - to convince me that they were the doors we ordered. He called that evening (March 30th) and left me a message to say that he couldn't get a hold of the measurements, that he would be out for the next two days, and another manager would contact me. I was never called. - April 2011 - our house was broken into through the basement windows, we called for replacement parts (which took about 4 weeks) and asked to have someone come out to talk with us about the doors as well. Someone brought the replacement part but as they were an installer and not a salesperson, they were not able to talk with us about the doors. - After that, the issue fell off my radar until fall 2011 when I received a call from a woman about our overdue account (because we had not paid for the rest of the doors). I explained the back story to her, and that the doors had never been installed. She assured me she would look into it. I never heard back from her. - A few weeks later (Oct 2011) I received a bill from Thompson Creek for the doors, the name [Accounts Manager] was in the corner of the envelope. I called and spoke with [accounts manager], she said that she was not who I'd spoken to previously, but that she would have it looked into it. She said she would now take responsibility for it and would call me back. I did not hear from her. - Nov 2011 I called TC to follow up and spoke with a woman named [name] who gave my information to the Inside Sales Manager. I exchanged a few phone calls and several emails with [Inside Sales Manager] through early December. It took [Inside Sales Manager] a few weeks to get me the measurements of the doors. - Jan 3 2012 I explained to [Inside Sales Manager] that it had become apparent that TC was not able to fulfill the doors that we wanted and believed we had ordered and we wanted to cancel the order. I asked if we had any outstanding payment due on the windows or the one storm door we had installed. [Inside Sales Manager] emailed me back on Jan 7 saying he needed to talk to his boss about it. - Jan 18 2011 - I emailed [Inside Sales Manager] again to follow up and did not receive a response. - Feb 21 2011 - emailed [Inside Sales Manager] again stating that this was my last attempt to close out the issue, if we didn't hear back within a week I would assume our account was settled. - Feb 22 2011 - received email from [Inside Sales Manager] saying he'd thought it was taken care and he'd have his VP get it cleared up right away. Received email from him 2 days later saying they need approval from the owner, he said he'd be in touch. - March 15 2011 - I emailed [Inside Sales Manager] again, asking for the contact information for whichever VP or owner I needed to talk to to get this resolved. No response received. - August 2011 - my husband received a call from an accounts employee at TC. My husband tried again to explain the situation, and said that he was tired of talking to a new person every time. Again - this person assured him that hew would take care of it. That he would personally call him back. Never heard from him again. - Nov 2011 - we received another bill in the mail for another $1500 - for work that was never completed. - Nov 2011 - another bill, this time with the warning that they are going to turn our account over to a collections agency. I have names and emails to document everything I've listed above.

For all home improvement projects, i always solicit at minimum of 3 bids. TCW was 4th on the list and the last vendor we were going to look at. The guy who came to our house was nice and polite, he did some small chit-chat as we toured the house. Like many of the other reviewers for this vendor, the sales pitch was very pushy when it came time to go over the pricing; it also included bashing competitors products and showing-off other signed contracts. The presentation was informational about all of their products. A cross section of TCW windows was shown; which showcased their unique "25 chambers" feature in their window. To be honest, it just looked like a whole mess of plastic being used! It probably does a good job dampening out sound and insulating b/c of all the material being used. However, you lose a lot of window surface b/c of the thickness of the vinyl and it looks terribly bulky. When the prices were presented to us, the cost for gutters and front door were 3x the amount other companies had quoted us. However, the prices for their windows were FAR below their competitors. But, then came the sales pitch about signing that day vs, tomorrow or having to pay the "regular" price if he waited until after Nov. If we signed right then and there we could get new gutters, door, and windows for the same price as our next lowest bidder. I've been trying to read up on the quality of the product, but so far it seems that *most* people who get them installed are happy. Just be prepared for a hard sell and try to put them as your last bidder if you're comparing quotes. My husband and I were really turned-off by their sales tactic and over-inflated "regular" price, so we decided to drop them as a potential vendor. Also, in reading the reviews on Angie's List, it seems TCW always has special deals if you sign with them the same day as your appt.

I want to state that the installation was completed to my expectations. It was the project managers ineptitude that was the issue. The first date for installation was canceled due to a scheduling issue. The second date the door and the capping of the Victorian Window was completed not finished due to scheduling of special crew. The third date the overhang was completed it took an hour. What happened between the first and second installation date was interesting I received a call from the project manager's supervisor. I conveyed my displeasure with the scheduling and we discussed some type of compensation. Of course I never heard anything further regarding compensation, when the last part of the project was completed I was informed that the balance of the bill should be paid in total. I did not pay the total balance, Hopefully it won't get too ugly. Thompson Creek contacted me we worked out a settlement to my satisfaction Again this was never about the product just the service.

I was working from home one day and received a knock on the door. A Thompson Creek individual was in the neighborhood and was wondering if he could help with anything. This was an opportune time because my husband and I just found out that our French doors were causing water leakage on our hardwood floors. He scheduled a time for a consultant to come out, measure and give us an estimate of their work. The gentleman arrived on time and did provide us an estimate. While we did not shop around, I liked their business model and I appreciate the details he provided. We decided to go with a sliding glass door instead of French doors because it is more conducive to our lifestyle. I was pretty much sold on their lifetime guarantee and financing options. We booked the work and had another individual come and perform the measurements. We signed a form stating we will not buy the door if our HOA does not approve. It took about a month for the HOA to finally approve the door. Once they did, it took about a month for Thompson Creek to manufacture and deliver the door. They called me the day before to verify installation time. They also arrived during their estimated arrival time and they finished the work earlier than estimated. Once the installers left, I received another knock on my door. A manager for Thompson Creek asked if he could inspect my door. Once he left, I received a call from the sales person and he wanted to make sure I was satisfied and told me I can call with any questions. I have to say, this company knows what customer service is and they are very willing to please me.

The experience generally went very well. The only glitch came right at the beginning when I was quoted a price that I found out the next day was significantly more than a neighbor had paid for basically the very same windows about one year before. The windows were essentially the same because my neighbor lives in the same condo development with the same Home Owner Association parameters for the windows and also had 8 windows installed. That said, however, I found Thompson Creek to be very responsive when I called them about this and they immediately adjusted the price. The workman who came were professional, and competent and cleaned up after the installation fairly well. The windows look great and there are no leaks in heavy rain etc. that I have seen. I would definitely deal with Thompson Creek again.

After reading all of the reviews on Angie's List, I was somewhat reluctant to schedule an estimate with Thompson Creek but did so to get an idea of how much they charge. The salesman showed up on time, was very polite and professional, and was not pushy at all with selling the windows. I think he was not prepared to have a potential customer that has done extensive amounts of research on replacement windows. After the presentation was completed he worked out the cost and provided me with three numbers, the today price (~$9,000), the 30 day price b/c of the sale (~$10,300) and the everyday one year price (~$14,200). Being the first estimate, I was not too shocked at the costs but knew this was not a reasonable price cosnidering that I have seen/heard of much lower prices from Thompson Creek. Three days after the estimate I received an email from a sales manager with Thompson Creek inquiring about the estimate and what I thought about the price. I was honest with him, saying that I had received another quote for windows of better quality, better energy efficiency ratings and very similar warranty/service agreements for much less (~$6,800). The Thompson Creek manager responded with an updated estimate in the tune of $7,200. Within three days of receiving a one year price of ~$14,200, I received an updated estimate for $7,200!!! If this doesn't sound like price gouging then you obviously have too much money and don't care about wasting it. Needless to say, I received several other quotes from othre Companies on Angie's List and my favorite so far has been Energy Wise Wondows and Door--William Beer was very professional and offered a higher product at a much lower price, please look into this company before considering Thompson Creek! I have not signed a contract yet but when I do, I will sign with Energy Wise Windows and Doors!

I should have read the reviews on Angie's list more carefully, rather than just listening to Thompson Creek's Ads. I was trying to arrange to have new windows installed for my son, who lives 50 miles away from me. A gift to him. Arranged for the fellow to give my son an estimate yesterday. After a very short discussion with my son, he realized that he wasn't the one paying, and refused to give him any sort of estimate. He said I had to be there. Despite the fact that my son was clear that he owned the house, would make the decision, and that I was just going to write the check, the TC estimator left without leaving anything. The silver lining was that he didn't stay the 90 minutes estimated. A call from my son echoed what I have now read here - the pressure leaves you feeling like you don't want to have anything to do with that company!
Description of Work: Thomas Creek was to give an estimate to replace all windows in a townhouse. They refused to do that because the owner was receiving these as a gift and the person writing the check was not there. Outrageous, high pressure sales - 1950s behavior.

In less than 45 days from the date of my initial phone call, Thompson Creek scheduled a home visit/estimate, negotiated a contract (including several last minute changes on my end), fabricated my windows, installed them, and cleaned up their work-spaces to a condition that was better than when they arrived. I couldn't be happier with my purchase!
Description of Work: Thompson Creek replaced all seven of the windows in my home with high efficiency windows. Five of my original seven windows were replaced with nearly-identical-looking (but much better) windows and the other two were replaced with a gorgeous double-width sliding window.

The salesman came in late August, walked us through the entire process, then scheduled the measurement date. Surprisingly, the pitch was very low key, offering us lots of time to think through our options. We let the salesman do an initial measurement for all windows although we knew only the back ones would be replaced this year. The only negative is that the salesman did not tell us that the tax credit for windows had expired. I had to look that fact up later. The person who did the measurements was thorough, even double checking the color of our siding and window frames to make sure they matched. After he was done, he called the project scheduler so I could select a day when the windows could be installed. The project manager contacted me by e-mail with periodic updates on the status of the window building. She was available by phone and e-mail as needed. A month later, the installers showed up promptly (we were first on the schedule) and carried out their tasks smoothly and efficiently. They placed tarps near the windows to be replaced and used all their own tools, including ladders for the outside work. Once finished, they cleaned up, had me sign the paperwork, then notified the project manager. She contacted me the next day to confirm my satisfaction with the windows. They look beautiful, operate perfectly, and bring in lots of light. The only problem is the one noted above, with the cracked caulking, but Thompson Creek has been very good about working with my husband's schedule to repair the caulk.
Description of Work: We had 7 windows replaced on the back of our house, 2 side-by-side in the dining room, the window over the kitchen and in the laundry room (both to be replaced with a casement type to make it easier to open) and three on the bedroom level. Nothing was done to the outside, which was agreed upon during the contract signing. After measurements were done (on a separate day) the installation was scheduled for a day that was convenient for me. The installation took place 1 month after the order was completed, agan on a conveniently scheduled day. No problems at all during this period although my husband noted the caulking on one window had cracked within days. Thompson Creek worked with him to schedule a day to come out to inspect and repair the caulking.

Overall purchasing experience was pretty good. We had a bit of an issues nailing down an install date, but that was the worst of our troubles. On install day they were right on time. They gave us a window between 0800 and 1100 and were there promptly at 0800 to begin the job. Another one of their jobs had canceled that day so they sent over a double sized team. It was amazing to watch these guys work. I was fully expecting for this job to take all day and they came in a did a fantastic job and were finished in about 4 hours. This included 18 windows and a sliding glass door. They were very professional. The foreman did a terrific job of explaining what they were going to do and was very personable. We walked though the house and we tested all the windows and doors and he had his folks correcting issues and things that I had not even pointed out. His attention to detail was superb. Their overall cleanliness was terrific. They came in and put down drop clothes on everything and vacuumed up after themselves. I was most concerned about trash outside, but when I did the walk through when they were done it had all be cleaned up really well. I would definitely recommend them to others and would use them again.
Description of Work: We hired them to replace all the windows in our home and a sliding glass door. It was a total of 18 windows and a sliding glass door.

The simplest and costliest jobs were completed. All of the other work became an issue for the company and they wanted me to sign a revised contract which eliminated the "factory discount" of $2500 plus dollars. I have not heard back from them since.
Description of Work: We contracted to install new covered gutter system, replace 10 windows in a sunroom, replace front entry door and surround, 2 storm doors, door copper roofing/siding, bay window surround siding and copper roofing. The most important issue as stated on this project was to complete all work by one contractor.

Sales person was professional and not pushy. Price was comparable to other estimates we received. We decided to go with TC because they were local, had a good reputation and a good warranty. Received good follow up prior to installation. Crew arrived on time and did an excellent job. Had no issues that were not addressed immediately (one torn screen). Would recommend highly.
Description of Work: We had 30 windows and two sliders replaced.

They installed the gutters improperly on the house. They did not put them under the drip edge and I had them come back. They claimed they were done correctly despite the fact the roofing manufacturer said they were not. We waited 9 months until we were ready to replace the gutters on the house to revisit this issue. The gutters on the garage were done properly and they agreed the house was not done properly. They made a date to come and fix them which they did not show up for even after confirming. They made another appointment and showed up after the 4 hour window they agreed to come during. When they did show up, they acted like they were not going to do anything until I talked to Darlene, my project manager, and explained the previous history. She tried to tell me their product had changed and they were doing something different and I did pay more to have it corrected. They forgot touch up paint which I had requested ahead of time because they were "too busy" to get it. It is a shame that they do have a good product, but their installers and staff are not particularly honest and good at dealing with their customers. I could not recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Originally replaced the gutters on our house and had them return to replace the gutters on our detached garage.

We sincerely apologize for the misunderstandings during your installation. However, we have changed the way we install gutters between your first purchase and now to improve the performance of the system. When new methods and technology come available, we continue to improve our products and installation and that is what took place in this case. In order for your gutters to match, your first round of gutter installation required us to go back for additional materials and labor which resulted in a charge that you agreed in your contract. We also have been informed that the extra paint was sent to your home at your request.

DID NOT HIRE THOMPSON CREEK..........hated the high pressure sales approach and the terrible "Mclean" pricing.
Description of Work: ESTIMATE SALES REVIEW ONLY>>>>>>DIFFICULT PROCESS TO SCHEDULE APPOINTMENT. Thompson Creek has a very inquisitive screening process to even schedule an estimate, then making some (unreasonable) demand that BOTH the owners of a home need to be present before the sales person will come out. The process is 90 minutes, but that is really only needed for someone who knows totally nothing about the replacement window industry or process. Finallygot salesman out. Start out very friendly...then he quickly got frustrated when we wanted to get to the bottom line without him having to painfully go through every page of them bashing other companies warranties etc....I had seen enough and was leaning their way, when suddenly there was huge pushback about not giving me the price "just yet." The response was, the scheduler told you to allocate 90 minutes for me, correct? Anyway, as the tensions rose, I simply told presenter give me your best price the very first time, I don't want to haggle. He gave me a price of 15 thousand to replace 12 builder grade double hung windows (approx 32 x 60). I asked with surprise, this is your best price as I requested first time? And he said "no, my best price is 12,450.00 if you give us three neighbors we can contact and put a yard sign in your front yard and you sign today. The high pressure, sign now or lose. I hated that approach, and hated the price.....told him thanks but no thanks....he was seriously offended and demanded to know if he had done something wrong. Pain in the butt.......waste of 90 minutes,.
