The end result was mostly satisfactory, but the sales process was dishonest, the first appointment completely missed their 4 hour window, two of our windows arrived the wrong size, they began performing the work in and incorrect fashion. and I spent a lot of wasted time arguing with them to get them to do what we had asked and paid for. | |Details |During the sales process, I let our salesperson know that the brick molding and window sills needed to be replaced and that I wanted solid Vinyl/PVC for the Brick mold, and wood or PVC for the Sills. He told me this was not a problem, and that this would be included in the quote - which it appeared that it was. When the crew got there, they started wrapping my existing brick mold with aluminum, and were doing the same to the rotted window sills without replacing either as was requested. I told them that this is not what was ordered, and that they should be replacing all brick mold with solid PVC/Vinyl. The foreman said they don't do that. | |At that point, they called the person who measured to come out and speak with me in an attempt to convince me that the crap they were wrapping my rotted wood with was better than what I had asked for. I am a contractor, and was a carpenter for 7 years and I know the difference. After a half hour of him pretending to listen to what I was saying, he finally said that they want me to be happy, and they ran to home depot and got what I had asked for. They only did this for the brick mold, and gave me some BS line about why they had to wrap the sills and could not do it any other way. The reason I did not want the wrapping they typically use is because it is very prone to dents and problems, as is evidenced by the downstairs windows they did for us a few years ago; one of the window sills is completely ruined and cannot be fixed by anyone but Thompson Creek. | |I called my Project Manager, Dave Thomas, and asked him if they would be giving the money back that I had paid to have my windows sills replaced and he told me he would get back to me. He never did, and sent me the full bill a month or so later. My foreman also told me that the damage to the downstairs window is covered under Thompson Creek's warranty, and he'd look into getting someone to repair that. Never heard back from him either. | |Finally, when they arrived to do my windows, two of the windows that they had were made the wrong size by the factory, and they had to order new ones - so we had to wait several weeks for the last two windows to be shipped. | |Overall, the work that they did do was on par with what one would expect for mid level replacement windows. They did what they know how to do very well - the only miss was one window that had not been caulked on the outside, but I caught that before they left and they took care of it. Additionally, they seem to have very good customer interaction training and are all very polite and professional. Other than the measuring person spending a half hour to try to convince me to do it their way, instead of what I contracted for, their professionalism is good. | |I like Thompson Creek, and think they have a lot going for them - but this project has turned me off, and I probably won't be using them again because I have no way of knowing whether what I am being sold is what I am actually getting, and when I alerted them about problems, they only corrected some - not all of them. | |
