Closet America did a good job for me. I'm going to be calling them back to do some more work. They did exactly what they said they were going to do. He came over and talked us through the process and told us how it works. It's detachable, so if we move or want to take it down, they'll come and do that. They were very clean, neat and on time. They took a deposit and I paid the rest when they finished. That was it and it looks great. It was very professionally done.
Description of Work: They converted a bedroom into a walk-in closet.

This was our first experience purchasing a closet system. We chose Closet America based on reputation (same parent company as Thompson Creek for windows). The quality and design of their product, along with a double lifetime warranty made them stand out from other companies that we researched. They came out and did an initial consultation with a designer, which took about an hour. She did a really good job of taking into account the needs of both my wife and I, and provided us with a customized closet design (my wife uses the bigger closet). She provided us with a total cost on the spot (originally $6800 for the upgraded color/style and suggested ways to help reduce). We opted to no include the drawers due to the higher cost and instead added accessories such as a laundry basket (recommend getting this) and wire basket pull out drawers, tie racks, etc. She also didn't pressure us to h****** the sale and we told her that we were still deciding on a company and would be in touch. In the days that followed, we were able to negotiate the price down from $6800 to $5300. We decided to sign the contract after comparing the cost to many online systems (see the container store) that were close in price and would require us to measure and install. We probably could have negotiated down a few hundred dollars more, but we felt the price was fair for two walk in closets. We signed the contract online and scheduled an installation date for three weeks later. Closet America was very attentive and contacted us several times before the installation to help ensure everything was on schedule. The day of the install, the project manager showed up on time (around 7:30) and was very friendly. He laid protective pads throughout the house spent the next 4 hours completing the installation. He also dismantled our wire closet that was previously in place and packaged and bagged all the parts so we could reinstall when we sell our home. Upon completion, the installer walked us through both closets and answered in detail all of our questions. We already love our new closets and would highly recommend using Closet America, just make sure you negotiate the price! Having all your clothes neatly organized and easy to see/store is really nice. We are definitely looking at our wardrobe with fresh eyes and realizing how many clothes we've been keeping that we never wear! Thanks for doing a great job Closet America!
Description of Work: We had two closets recently done by Closet America. First closet was a larger walk in (6'x 9') and the second smaller walk in (5' x 7'). We chose the darker color for the cabinetry which was slightly higher in cost. Total cost was $5300.00.

We had a Closet America (affiliated with Thompson Creek) designer visit after seeing their display at the Annapolis home show. During her visit, she took about an hour to design two closets, a home office, and a pantry. We decided to proceed with the home office as our top priority as the price was fairly expensive. I had planned to custom-build the cabinets myself; however, after seeing their design and quality, I realized they could do it much better. We received discounts that were ongoing as a result of the home show and for approving the work at the time of the design appointment. The installers arrived on time on April 2nd; they laid down furniture pads and carpets to protect the floors and got started with the installation. They used a laser level to handle any floor irregularities and meticulously leveled the entire installation. They anchored the shelving and desks to the walls. The installation was complex with lots of file drawers and door fronts for storage, yet they still completed their work in less than five hours. The company had informed us that our largest file drawers would not be ready at the initial installation, so we just had those installed in a service call on April 23rd. They also replaced one drawer front that had a small chip during an intervening service call. The designer and installers were all very professional, clean, and friendly. The company communicated well and was very responsive to questions and concerns. I would definitely work with them again.

Jennifer and her coworker arrived on time and stayed with us over 3 hours. They went through each project methodically and measured everything accurately. They then sat down and entered all of our specs into their program. They called me back when they were ready. Jennifer went over a comprehensive slide show to explain Closet America and what the company stood for, how it was different from others, and had some sample shelves and shelving mechanisms to explain and demonstrate all the variations. She made sure I understood everything and answered all my questions. Then she showed us the 3D imaging of what our projects would look like. She was honest and accommodating on changes I asked for, and we talked at length about the projects. Jennifer was honest in telling us we could probably get a cheaper kitchen cabinet/shelf from Home Depot or similar, and gave me the measurements so that I could go there and get that done in my own time. We had also requested quotes from Tailored Living (never received a quote in the end), Closet Stretchers (very good salesman and very good price). I had decided that unless Closet America blew me away I was going to get Closet Stretchers to do my laundry room, and would wait on my other two projects. Well, Closet America blew me away... In the end it came down to the price. I realized that we could only afford to do one project, and the laundry room was the one that was the most urgent. Jennifer ended up calling her boss to ask if they could give me a price that was lower than their minimum required to come do a "free" install. He agreed, and we signed the paperwork. Though it felt like I was buying a house with all the papers that we went through, it was reassuring to understand and realize the professionalism of Closet America and I feel confident I won't regret getting new shelves from them.
Description of Work: Jennifer and her coworker came to look at 3 potential projects in our 1950's Cape Cod: master closet, kitchen cabinet, and laundry room. We settled on just doing the laundry room this time, and they will come out to install when the shelves are ready.

One of the best companies I have dealt with in a long time. They will exceed your expectations!
Description of Work: From the sale to the installation, this company fully understands what the meaning of CUSTOMER SERVICE truly is. The sales person was terrific and took her time to ensure that what we wanted for my daughter's closet would meet our expectations. Then the phone calls started coming in ensuring we understood next steps and what the process would be. The installer was awesome too! Quality of the materials and workmanship was exactly what we were expecting. I highly recommend...the price is more than what we wanted to spend (these guys are not cheap) but what we received was well worth the investment. You can't beat their warranty either...if you want a closet organized...you want this company to do it for you!

We were looking forward to getting designs for our walk-in closed and Closet America was the second company to come to our house. We were told to expect the visit to take 90 minutes. What we didn't expect was 60 minutes of that being taken up with a power point presentation about the company. We were not interested in the mission, etc. of the company and tried several times to move the presentation forward without success. Also, we were surprised by the high pressure to sign a contract on the spot. The first company had said to take our time about deciding, which we appreciates as being much more professional. Due to finding out about the death of our grandson, later that day, we called to request some time to decide while still maintaining the discounts, but after leaving a message with the sales person and then talking with a real person who said that a manager would call the next day. we received no responses. We do not like to provide negative recommendations; however, for Angies List to have value, it is important to do so when warranted.

My closet partially collapsed in November 2011, and I dispersed my clothes throughout the remaining closets in my home as a temporary solution. I reached my breaking point when I started ?losing? clothes I?d just seen. It was time to address the issue, and I did not want to re-hang the wire shelving that came with the house when it was built in 2001. When I called Closet America, the customer service representative was very pleasant and scheduled an appointment for the designer to visit my home within a week. The designer, Dan, assessed my volume of clothes and shoes and came up with a workable design to maximize the use of a small space. He was very personable and patient when explaining my options to me. A week later, my closet system was installed, and I LOVE it! It is even better than I could?ve imagined from the 3-D images provided by the designer. The installer was also very pleasant and was able to install the system in less than 3 hours. He removed the portion of the closet that had not collapsed, patched all of the holes in the wall, and removed the wiring shelving from my home as part of the cleanup. I was pleased with my closet experience from start to finish and would highly recommend this vendor.

The service was really good. They were responsive. The quality was really good. As soon as I submitted a free consultation, I was called within 5 minutes. Throughout the whole process, they were able to come out within a few days. They scheduled the installers within a couple of weeks, so I got everything done in a matter of a few weeks. I would recommend them. I did get a couple of other quotes. They have a really good warranty that transfers and they have a good price match. They were able to price match with another quote that I got. The reason I went with them was because if I would have moved, they could pick down the closet system & moved it for me and also because of their responsiveness.

Overall a great service provided. I got exactly the cabinets we wanted at a great price, installed by courteous professionals.
Description of Work: We had floor to ceiling storage cabinets installed in our finished basement/ playroom. From start to finish they did a great job. The two technicians called to let me know exactly when they would arrive, they placed protective carpets on my floor from door to site of installation. They were very friendly and the cabinets look great. They made sure to show me exactly how to move the shelves around properly so as not to damage the cabinetry. I would definitely call them again.

My closet broke on a Tuesday. I called them Wednesday and they were in my home on a Thursday to do a consult at 7pm after I got off from work. The design process does take a couple of hours but it is completely custom to suit our needs. The day of installation the finished quickly and cleaned up everything. Our closet looks beautiful and I am now able to see where everything is.

Made an appointment for the estimate about a week ahead of time. The saleswoman was very nice. A little too high pressure for my liking, but it is a business. They offered 3 prices: 1 price promised for a year, 1 price for 3 months, and 1 price for today only. I signed up that day. They came back about 2-3 weeks later to do the job. It took a few hours to do and were quick work and arrived exactly on time.
Description of Work: My 1 bedroom city condo had a very poor excuse for a bedroom closet. I did not even have a hanging bar to hand clothes. Closet American can and installed 3 hanging bars, shelves, drawers, tie rack, and belt rack. All was done in the original space with high quality materials.

The first meeting with a designer took about 2 hours, during which she took measurements, explained the features of the products they offered and made a drawing and 3-D design. Out of all the features I liked that hardware (all the little things that hold shelves, rods, etc) is 100% metallic, and also that the closet can be disassembled and reconfigured if needed. Also it is worth pointing out that they offer life-time guarantee with their product, which is transferable to new owners in case you ever sell the house, which we felt makes it a good investment. The price was a bit higher than we had in our budget so our designer offered some changes to get it down closer to our budget (in our case it was reducing the size and number of drawers). The installation was scheduled in about 2 and a half weeks and took about 5 hours or so. The final product looks great! Overall, I can say that the closet is a bit pricey, but the quality, warranty and professionalism of the people from ClosetAmerica is well worth it.

From the first meeting with Closet America to get an estimate and see the proposed design everyone associated with them was professional and very competent. Measurements were taken and within a couple of weeks we were given a detailed design showing us what we could expect. Installation was done in a timely and efficient manner, and the closet looks great. Closet America's slogan is "everything in its place. perfectly" and they deliver on that!

We were looking into options for our new home to have custom closets put into our master bedroom. Our neighbors had contracted with Closets By Design, so we took the opportunity to chat with the salesman when he stopped by to visit our neighbors. He worked up a proposal for us and as we were in the decision-making phase, I came across a Closet America ad in the monthly Angie's List Magazine I happened to just get in the mail. I checked out their website and was impressed enough to call and schedule a consult with their designer, Jennifer. Jennifer came out to our new house and told us about Closet America, showed us samples, and really gave us a thorough, no-pressure demonstration which really impressed us. We liked the double life of the home warranty, free service pledge, and the fact it was a local company. Jennifer took initial measurements and was able to show us what our closets would look like on the spot, changing the layout as we changed our minds, and eventually creating a 3D preview which was extremely helpful. Ultimately, we liked what we saw, we liked the quality of materials that were used, and liked how they installed their closet systems, so we decided to go with Closet America. A few weeks later, the Project Manager, Patrick, came by to verify the measurements taken during the design phase, and coordinate the installation day. It was a short visit, but was able to schedule a day that fit into my work schedule and didn't require me to take any days off. On installation day, Mark called when he was en route and unlike other typical deliveries that offer timeframes for arrival, Mark was there no later than 0830. Mark immediately got to work and with two closets to install, it took most of the day with him putting the finishing touches on the systems around 1530. Mark took great care to protect our hardwood floors and made sure he laid down those heavy duty blankets before staging the closet pieces before installing them. Overall, the price was a bit higher than the competition, but I think the quality Closet America offered was well worth the price. I don't think I'll have any issues with our closets, so many years from now, I probably would have regretted not going with Closet America. I'm very happy with our selection and how it turned out.

Closet America team was awesome. From the first visit to the show room to check them out...to the in-home design consultation...to the project manager visit (to make sure all was good and doable with the design)...to the installation team. HIgh quality product, excellent design to maximize space specific for our needs and professional installation. What was really, really impressive was the pride in work demonstrated by all the staff. They really do seem to love their work and the company they work for/with. While the system was very expensive, we are satisfied that we received a high quality product from a company that stands behind their product. We also appreciated being able to support a local business. We have already referred many others to them and will continue to do so.

Experience was very good from start to finish. The "design consultant" was able to answer any questions I had, worked with me to develop a design that fit my needs and did the initial measurements. Installer showed up on time and got the job done in a reasonable amount of time. None of these closet companies are cheap, but I feel Closet America gave me good value and a closet that increased the value of my home.

After looking at competitor systems, we chose Closet America because the quality of workmanship appeared to be better than California Closets. We also found the professionalism and training of Closet America's salespeople to be much better than California Closets - including timely response to request for quotations. In fact, we received a quote from California Closets only after following up multiple times. After multiple follow-ups in not receiving the quote, as well as the quote having contained quite a bit of missing information, it was apparent that Closet America wanted the business far more than California Closets did. - The in-home consultation with our Designer (Jennie Farmer-Rinker) went very well with Jennie providing very good ideas on how we could best utilize our closet space. She was also very knowledgeable about her produce and was able to answer all of my wife and my's questions. - Following our design completion and contract signing with Jennie, we were contacted 2 days later by someone from Closet America's installation department who explained the complete installation process and answered my wife's questions. - On the installation date, the Closet America installation team was punctual and arrived at the proper time. They completed their task of preparing the necessary closets for the new wall systems. Entire installation took approximately 4-5 hours, with no hiccups of any kind. - The installation crew cleaned up the job site after completion and we were very happy with the end result. From an overall perspective, we were very happy from start to finish. The Designer, Manager, and Installers were ALWAYS helpful, courteous, and very timely and responsive to questions and requests. While we intended to only do our master closet, we are very happy that we chose to do all three closets with Closet America. We will definitely use the company again if the opportunity presents itself.
Description of Work: Project consisted of three different closet installations. The Master closet consisted of a four wall shelving unit, including two 7-shelf wall units, three double hanging units, three pull-down hangers, one chrome tie rack, and one chrome valet pole. The renovation to our daughter's closet consisted of the installation of one double hanghing shelf, as well as installtion of five shelves with 2 drawers. The renovation to our son's closet also consisted of the installation of five shelves with 2 drawers, as well as one double hanging shelf

I asked for info at their Montgomery County, MD fair booth . The rep really wanted me to schedule an appt on the spot, even though I repeatedly said that I don't make appts w/o my calendar, to avoid double-booking. She assured me that someone would call to confirm, so I could check my calendar at home & reschedule if necessary, & said that scheduling right then entitled me to a discount. So I did, & sure enough, nobody called to confirm, & the salesman arrived while another salesman (about a completely different job) was here - kind of awkward! He was very polite, though, & took measurements himself while I talked w/ the other person in the other room. (But I don't remember that he & I were actually inside the closet at the same time, which, looking back, was a mistake on my part.) Then he & I rescheduled for his return visit. When we finally sat down together, he had this great software program that showed his proposed design in 3-D, & from all different angles. It was gorgeous, but the proposed price was staggering. Besides, he'd designed a six-drawer chest where I already had one! I said I wanted to keep mine; there was no poiint creating a new one. That took the price down about half. Then I asked about why he hadn't designed something on the wall opposite the unit, in the way back of the closet. He said that his design used as much space as possible while allowing space to walk into the way-back. He did add on one more small shelf unit where I pointed out one would fit, near the front. I don't like the sales technique of quoting a price & then quoting a 'Today Only' price. I know it's important to think through major expenses, & usually I decide not to hire a company that does that. But I'd been wanting to re-do this closet for so long, & the 3-D drawings looked so good... I know that I am responsible for my decision - nobody was holding a gun to my head. I said yes, even though I still thought the 'Today Only' price was high. The scheduling of the installation was simple. I did get a voicemail the day before, reminding me of the appt & to empty the closet in preparation. The installer, Ryan, arrived promptly, & 'staged' all his materials on a tarp outside the closet. He worked efficiently; I was surprised at how quickly he was finished. He gave me a 'tour' of each area, & was patient in describing how to adjust the shelves (since I have low vision) & showed me the 'secret' space und.er the lowest shelf. However, after he left, when I went in to vacuum up the bits of spackle & drywall left from tearing out the old shelves& patching the holes, I found three little metal 'pins' - not sharp, but hard & thin. This concerns me, because I have pets who swallow novel non-food items that they come across (that they then either choke on or vomit up), & I'm glad that I found the metal things before they did. The shelving units are beautiful & sturdy, but every time I go into the closet, I see the 'way-back' part & think that it would be more efficient to have the double-hanging part across that back wall, instead of having all the shelving parts on one side & nothing on the other, & I keep thinking about how expensive the whole job was. In retrospect, I wish I had stuck to my habit of not making an on-the-spot decision. I also wish that I had made myself go thtrough the hassle of getting at least one other company to design a system & make a bid. For such a large expenditure, I should have taken the print-outs of the designs & kept looking them over & considering my decision for at least a day or two before making the commitment. Maybe I would have seen the other possibilities while they were still just on paper, before they were bolted in for the next two lifetimes. One other thing bothers me about Closet America's practices. After Ryan had pulled out the old Elfa shelving, he was going to take it down to the dumpster. I asked him to leave it in my condo & told him I'd offer it on Freecycle. He wasn't aware of Freecycle; he said they always threw away the pulled-out shelving. I had over 20 responses on Freecycle within hours of my posting the shelves & used hardware. It was gone that day, with very little effort on my part. I hope Closet America decides to attempt to recycle the shelving materials they pull out. I understand that as a business, they don't want to take time to deal w/ non-lucrative pursuits, & they don't have space to store items, but they could at least make customers aware of Freecycle & suggest it as an option for getting rid of old shelving materials that they no longer need or watnt, w/o just automatically throwing them away.
Description of Work: A white organization system was installed in my master bedroom walk-in closet. It includes space for hanging pants & garment bags, & a double-hanging space for shirts/tops. It also includes a column of shelves to one side, & shelving all around the top of the unit. All the parts are fastened to the wall by a horizontal anchor so they don't fall forward, although they have 'feet' that go down to the carpet, so they're not just hanging from the anchor. It's built around a six-drawer chest that I already had in the closet. A few of the shelves are adjustable; the rest are fixed. The old shelving parts were torn out & the holes in the walls were 'patched' w/ spackle, although not painted. It has a 'double-lifetime warranty' - that is, mine & the next homeowner.

I had them out for an estimate, and their price was so high it was shocking. They would not leave me a drawing of the proposed work. Also, their sales approach was a bit too high pressure for my tastes. So I had a different company do the work.

I would grade Closet America an A+. I thought it was a fair price considering the quality of their materials. I talked to several of the closet people, but they had what I considered to be the best materials to build the systems. They are an awesome company.
Description of Work: I used Closet America for two projects. They built a closet system that is 13 feet long and some bookcases.

The overall experience was great. Dan, the sales consultant, arrived on time and got to know us and our needs. He then proceeded to measure and look at the closets and then designed options for us right there on the spot. He quoted us a price and Closet America had some specials which he went over with us without being 'high pressure' with the sale. We agreed and signed on the same day. The company then promptly scheduled an appointment to get the precise measurements and then one for installation. In every appointment they were punctional and great service and responsiveness. We really liked the quality of the closet materials and we just love our new closet organization systems.

It turned out fine. They were pretty thorough. They walked us through the project before they started. They spent a lot of time helping to configure the closet. They gave us some options on design configurations which was nice. They did put some pressure on us to buy theirs on that day which irritated me a little bit.
Description of Work: They did some more closet work for us.
