SMO

I’ve been with them for quite awhile. They do have this thing, even though it’s a day, that they will call me an hour before they will come. So, it’s not that that bad.

The service was fine. I've been using them for three years. They're safe. It is what it is but they also monitor how much you use. They come when I'm about to run out and they have an estimate of how quick you consume the gas. It's just their reliability and their safety is good.

I guess they came out months ago for a cleaning and they are due to come out next month for a cleaning. I am satisfied with them and what they did last year. I am on a monthly plan and they do tune ups for the air conditioner and heater.

I had an issue with the fireplace and they came out to check it. The people are very nice and professional.

They got it to work quickly. One of the guys was great and very polite. They are the people of the people and very nice. I would absolutely use them again.

Their services are pretty good.

I usually have a problem with SMO messing up my propane order every year. There is also a system error that comes up every winter, on the system they installed, that none of the servicemen can figure out.

They have been fine. They are quite reliable and I have never had any issue with them at all. They are the only supplier in the area we use them for. Their quality is excellent.

They are a reliable company, I've been using them for years. They service my heating system. They come out once a year to service the system. They have been pretty reliable of taking care of it. I have a contract with them for maintenance and repairs and it covers an annual checkup as well. They have repaired various items at different times. My system has been in for about 12 years.

They were great. I am on their plan. They provide heating oil but they are also the ones that took out the heating oil and put in a propane tank when we decided to go propane. They dug the old tank up and installed the new and hooked it all up. I've been using them for years, at least 23 years.

.great company. Been a customer for 30 years. The crew members were perfect. Last call out they helped reset thermostat. 95% they have been wonderful. Very responsive and willing to correct what problems are on minor problems. Competitive bids they out bid at good prices

It was fine. I've been with them for a very long time, since we moved here I believe, almost 40 years. We've been with them a very long time. We have a tank for our oil. It's above ground and it has a lot of sediment in the bottom and what happens is, if they put the oil in really fast and it churns it all up it clogs up the filter and then we have no heat. I called them and asked them to please have the guy call me before he comes and delivers oil. And then I shut the furnace down and then he delivers the oil and I leave it for about an hour so the sediment had some to go back to the bottom again. And they do it every time. It's non-fail. I never have to worry about them coming and giving me oil without them telling me.

I like them to be upright folks. They were responsive to a service call. I'm on a automatic plan and they're pretty good about that. If I called and I need propane, they delivered it promptly. We're very pleased with them.

We have three properties that they service. I have stayed with them because of reputation.

They're average. I've had a few problems with their service. Sometimes I get pretty good technicians, sometimes I do not. They are punctual, they are here when they say they're gonna be here.

It went fine. We have a contract with them. They cared all of our heating and air conditioning and they were well servicing it. They came out last fall but they are coming in June for the check up. The cost is around $200 a month. They are very professional and well mannered. They put plastic on their feet when they come in. They tell you what they are doing or what needs to be done to the unit. They vacuum out the air conditioner to make sure there is nothing in there to prevent it from working properly. We found out about them through the people that we bought the house from years then. We tried them and we’re very happy with them. We are stuck with them since.

They have a service contract that includes the annual tune up but it also covers parts and labor for almost any repair that you would need on an emergency basis during the year. Their service fee, their labor fee is, I think, around hundred dollars an hour. They also include cleaning which they do every year. They have always been prompt and courteous when we needed them. If we have any problems they take care of it. They show up when they say they're going to.

I have been using SMO since I have been in this house, before I even joined Angie's List. They normally deliver it and leave the bill on the door. I have not had any problems with them. We never see them. We have it on automatic refills so when it gets to a certain level they come out. They have always been on time and responsive.

We had a charge dispute with them. They rectified situation. We are now satisfied.

It turned out very well. They have been doing the service for us for 37 years. That will speak for itself as to what my explanation is on what they do. They do a good job. If I ever have a problem, they fix it. The work they do I highly recommend. They are punctual. When they say they would be here, they are here. They are very professional.

They're pretty good. I don't have any problems with them. He kept working on my furnace until finally he said, "look I cannot do it, you're gonna have to buy a new one." where somebody else would just say, "buy one right away." He worked on it until it's safe and said you gotta buy a new one, and he did that for about three years.

I have used Southern Maryland Oil (SMO) since November 2013 for heating oil delivery. I spent $2341.76 for oil during the winter of 2013-2014. Since the Oil Furnace was my only source of heat, I decided to get estimates for a Heat Pump installation to cut back on oil use. I went with SMO due to current rebates and their quoted price was better than other local companies. The install was scheduled for Sep 25 2014. I wanted the Heat Pump installed prior to the temperature dropping, hoping the savings in oil would help cover the payments on the the new system. The install went well, and I thought everything was working. October was mild weather, so don't remember using AC or heat more than once or twice. Mid-November, when I had used almost half a tank of oil, I became suspicious something wasn't working quite right. I had never owned a heat pump, so I wasn't sure what was normal day to day operation. So I started to monitor the heat pump whenever it would turn on, and found that the outdoor unit would run for one minute, then shutoff. Fuel oil furnace would then kick in and heat house. Since outside temps were warm, and heat was barely coming on during the day, I waited several days to see if system was actually operating. It became obvious heat pump was not working. I called for service and technician showed as scheduled on Nov 26. He determined system in "High Cutout". Reset, but system continued to cutout. It was raining, so unable to troubleshoot further. (had to take day off from work) Rescheduled for Nov 28. New technician came and determined that "thermal expansion valve" bad on new outdoor unit. Called SMO after part came in, and scheduled install. (Took another day off for install, had to cancel install due to rain.) Installed TXV Dec 11th. (another day of missed work). It did not fix the problem. Technician then decided compressor was bad. Ordered new compressor. Scheduled install, but cancelled due to rain (another work day) Dec 18th, Installed Compressor. (yet another work day missed). Problem still not solved. Technician decided pressure cutout switch bad. Ordered new switch. After technician left, I called SMO Customer Care with my concerns. Specifically, that my brand new heat pump has had a failed expansion valve, bad compressor and now a bad switch. Obviously, all this should not be happening to a new system, the new switch won't fix it, and being in the military, I can't continue to ask my Boss for days off for this type of troubleshooting. Customer service contacts one of the Supervisors, who contacts me, and sets up a day to come out and fix the heat pump. Dec 23rd (another day off from work), full team of installers show up and determine that indoor coil is mismatch with outdoor unit. (Salesperson should have included this). New coil is ordered, and scheduled for install. Dec 30th, (another day off from work),indoor coil replaced. The team has to completely refit ducting on top of Furnace to get new coil to fit. Seems to fix problem. Heat pump appeared to be working. Two days later, Heat pump stops working! Jan 7th, (another workday), Team shows up, and finds disconnected temp sensor. Seems to fix problem. Heat pump appeared to be working. Ten days later, Heat pump stops working, again. Jan 23rd, (another workday), different Technician sent out on emergency call and finds system coolant overcharged. He bleeds it off, and system finally starts to run normal. Jan 27th, (another workday). Another team shows up to make sure everything is still running ok and check everything thoroughly. As of today,(12 Mar 2015) the Heat Pump appears to be working as advertised. While all this was going on, in December, SMO changed my monthly fuel bill from $120 to $435 based on predicted oil usage. It was a slap in the face considering my predicted usage was based on a broken Heat Pump I paid almost $6000 for, that they could not fix??? Since the last visit, I have received no phone calls, emails or any form of contact from SMO concerning this incident. Today, I had my annual tuneup for my Fuel Oil Furnace, as per my service contract with SMO, and the technician tells me that my heat exchanger is cracked, and the oil furnace needs to be replaced. Of course, the heat exchanger is the one and only part in the entire system that is not covered by the maintenance contract. My furnace has been short cycling on and off, and not reaching normal temps since all the work done on my heat pump, but I have already burned so many off days, and oil, that I find it easier to turn the thermostat down and wear warm clothes. Now I have a big decision to make. I have only had experience with one HVAC company in this area. (that would be SMO) I felt the technicians I dealt with were professional and courteous, and I don't feel that any of this was intentional, but I do feel SMO has no intention of making this situation right. And I dread the thought of going through this process again with them for another equipment install.

SMO shows up on time and fills tank as specified on order. I don't believe they are the cheapest, but they respond. Heat was out once in the past when we returned from vacation. A technician came out at approximately 1am, restarted furnace.

If you pay with a credit card, they will give you a discount. They do a wonderful job. I use them on a regular basis and have been for 40 years.
