Upholstery Restoration & Select Fabrics

I had a chair and ottoman recovered. It was professionally done and beautiful. I wish I could say the same for the customer service. I originally choose fabric in March but didn't receive my chair until July. After a series of mistakes and mixed messages from the 3 owners, I finally got my chair. If you go with this company be sure to keep all estimates, invoices, due dates, emails and phone messages. Deal with only one of the owners, not all three. Each one gave a different message to me.

We have a 20+ year old rocker that needed cushions and fabric replaced and buying a new one wasn't an option. Upholstery Restoration happened to be right in our neighborhood. They followed COVID precautions- they were responsive to emails and we were able to come to the store and select fabric (large selection with various price points) . They were able to pick up and deliver the rocker! They are very busy and it took about a month to get it back but it was worth the wait. We are very happy with the outcome- more comfortable and provides better support than before.

It was spectacular. Previously, this company re-springed and re-stuffed this furniture and, against their strong recommendation but with my insistence, put on the original upholstery (sentimental issue on my part). This was heroic, and they did not introduce one new rip in highly sensitive, fragile and aged upholstery. Then 15 years later I returned with a request to improve it and re-upholster. I didn't know the best choices for upholstery, and they guided my decision-making without big footing, and it was painless. The furniture is now restored to its shockingly spectacular 1920s splendour and I could not be more pleased. The service was unfailingly considerate; indeed, halfway through I thought I changed my mind about one aspect, and they invited me into the working area to discuss our best options, without judgment. The pickup and delivery were executed by workers who were extra-careful both with the furniture and the surround, and they were willing to rearrange other furniture to make sure everything was where I wanted it. This is only my latest experience with these extraordinary crafts people. It's a family enterprise, and there is so much talent in that group. This was a sofa and two plush armchairs that needed enormous work. When they discovered new problems with the furniture, they extended discounts on the repairs, too! I've included before and after. The photos don't do justice to the spectacular change in our room.

The chairs are very comfortable to sit in again. They were done at different times, one in May and one in August. Both times I had to follow-up around the time they were supposed to be finished, and in both cases they had not been started. They were completed within a few days of my follow-up however.

Well. A little pricey. Professional.

Amazing service and attention to detail from quote to delivery. They contacted me several times during the process to check on important details to assure job would be perfect. Delivery staff was able to manage tight staircase that the original furniture delivery company could not. Price was very competitive given the size of the job and high quality. The best experience I have had with a reupholsterer, and I've had many. Will definitely recommend UR&SF to friends in the trade. GREAT JOB!

This was a great experience. The company reupholstered the chairs after refinishing the wood, and supplying new foam. They were very prompt in finishing the work and delivering the chairs. They were significantly cheaper than other estimates. We supplied our own fabric. We have already recommended them to other people including an interior designer.

Excellent professional, responsive work and dealings with this company. We have a sofa and two love seats, the seating areas of which had become softer than we like. After looking at fabric, we decided to keep the original fabric. Dave was very helpful in assisting us while looking at the fabric and in deciding which type of foam to use. The sofa and love seats look like new and now they feel like new! The company does excellent work, is very responsive. Great delivery team too.

All work was done as agreed upon and well in advance of promise date. Staff was helpful in determining materials to be used. Work was done expertly with fabric provided. Looked like new at pick up.

They did a fantastic job and I'm very pleased with my sofa. The work was perfect and the color and quality of the material are great! They were very helpful as I tried to narrow all my choices. They were two Weeks late on completion and called several times about an additional charge I ended up paying, but the craftsmanship was fantastic and I get compliments on my sofa on a regular basis.

My experience with Upholstery, Restoration and Select Fabrics was positive and professional from beginning to end of the project. This is a great team! Beverly provided me with outstanding advice in choosing fabrics that would work with my interior design and the upholstery work was well-executed and produced an outstanding result. They have a large selection of fabrics of many styles and prices. All contacts with members of the team were helpful and professional. I would use them for future work without hesitation. In short, a great experience!

The company has two divisions, upholstery and refinishing and they specialize in antiques. Beverly provided expert assistance in selecting just the right fabric for the Victorian chair and they did a wonderful job with restoring the finish and retiring the springs and replacing the webbing. They re-rushed the 3 ladderbacks and restored the finish so the look new. They took a round, handmade table that had been abused in an assisted living facility and restored the top with a finish that matched the original on the base and then restored that finish. They did a wonderful job. The picked up when they said they would (1 hour block) and delivered when they said they would. They were not low cost, but you never get what you don't pay for. The work was worth the cost. My only complaint was that the refinishing work took a month longer than estimated. Fortunately we were not in a rush so it really didn't matter.

We are very pleased with the work. My husband is going back and take some furniture that needed repair. If you look at the outcome of the work, we were very pleased. But they were extremely busy, so we kind of wait around. They were very knowledgeable and friendly once you get their attention. They don’t have staff to help you out. They don’t have greeters. When you walk into the door, you are on your own. That part was not pleasant. That was not the most efficient way to entertain customers. There were overwhelming amount of fabric samples and no one to help you out. But their work was excellent.

I have used their services before....a very professional and dependable business.

They did a great job, which was done when promised. I only wonder now what took me so long to get it done!

WOW! The finished cushion is beyond my expectations. I can't even tell where the welting is joined! It MADE the chair. The service was fast, the work top shelf, and this family-owned business will be seeing a lot more of me! Plus, they're open on Saturday which is very convenient.

I would suggest maybe having a better idea of what you want in the way of colors before going. I had just moved into a house and didn't have all of my colors or ideas solidified, so I made it more difficult for them to guide me, but they were very patient.

I had contacted several upholstery shops in the area with a request for a quote for making two cushions. I had a very simple job and I wanted it done impeccably. UR Fabric responded very promptly with comprehensive estimate that beat all the other companies. I brought my fabric and old cushions to the store, met with one of their reps, and they had me taken care of in no time. My project was quoted to be ready in 3 weeks and was finished perfectly and on time. The cushions look and feel like top-notch quality. I know they will last for years to come. Their showroom is quite impressive - they literally have thousands of fabric options. If I have another upholstery or furniture job, I will definitely stop here first. Other fabric shops in the greater DC area don't even begin to compare. The customer service reps know their stuff and are very professional and friendly. There was no gimmicky up-selling or BS from them, just straight forward professional service. Their upholstery workshop is well equipped and the guys building the furniture really look like they are quite skilled. When I saw some of the amazing furniture projects they were busy working on, I had no problem waiting three weeks for my cushions. UR Fabric is one of those rare family-run businesses that truly know their trade and provide fantastic customer service at a very reasonable price. It almost feels like a privilege that I got to be one of their customers. I will be back hopefully several more times with future projects!

The work was done perfectly. Hard to tell where the seams are. The work was performed on time and the cost was estimated correctly. We have recommended him to friends.

This was one of those odd jobs. Upholstery Restoration had done a beautiful job reupholstering my sofa and loveseat last year, so they were the first ones I thought of to create a new canopy for my yard swing that had been damaged in a storm. I called them up to ask if they could do it and they said bring it in. The reality is, it is nothing more than a large, frameless rectangle of fabric with tie downs, but I have neither the talent or sewing machine to make one. They ordered the fabric and I made a deposit. The fabric apparently got lost in the mail and it was not until I contacted them more than two weeks later that this was discovered. However, new fabric was ordered and work was completed in a timely manner. I would wish that the pricing for labor was not as high, but the canopy is beautiful, fits just right and is very well constructed.

I am an Annapolis based designer and have worked with UR for 17+ years. I don't use anyone else to upholster or refinish. They are professional, have great fabric selection and just so easy to work with. I recommend clients to them all the time. They pick up the furniture then return a beautiful finished product! I interviewed a number of companies before choosing them. The company rep was very knowledgeable and also provided a fabric sample that was exactly as I had described my preference on the phone. The estimate was a very few dollars less than another top-rated company on Angie's list - but I decided that I had confidence in them. It was well-placed. They completed rebuilt, reupholdstered and recovered 8 dining chairs and the outcome was outstanding. The work was done according to the promised schedule and every aspect of the engagement was professional, service orirented and of high quality. I'd definitely hire them again. E Able

I received a recommendation from a co-worker to check out Upholstery Restoration as she had had work done by them. I went on line to check them out and saw that they were on Angie's List. I took photos and measurements of both my sofa and loveseat and went to their Kensington, MD location. Their upstairs was filled with fabric sample books. I met with Dave, who looked at my photo and reviewed my measurements. He gave me a reasonable estimate that included ballpark figures pending fabric choices. He directed me to the samples that fell into my budget. After much browsing, I took several fabric sample books home to peruse. After a few days, I returned to U.R. and had my final quote based on my custom fabric choices. We chose to drop off our sofa first. Admittedly, work did take longer to start than originally anticipated. Once work had begun, Dave called me several times to discuss the direction of the pattern and the location of the seaming. I appreciated that assumptions were not made and that I was personally involved in the decision process. The delivery of the finished sofa went smoothly. It was gorgeous. Absolutely what I had envisioned. The loveseat was worked on next and as the tough decisions were made with the sofa, all things went according to plan. It was quickly completed and delivered in a timely and polite fashion. I am very pleased with U.R. and would definitely use them again. I have already recommended them to another coworker.

I just called to receive an estimate for installing the top to my dresser and the gentleman asked me where did I live and told me it would be a $400 job because I reside in Frederick, MD. That price was not reasonable to me at all. He said that it would be a 1 hour drive each way and that he would charge full price for the commute.. This place sounds like a rip-off from start.

Overall, this is a good merchant. They give a fair price for their work and do not give false dates of delivery. They require that you go back and look at the furniture after stripping to determine the bast color based on the wood. You pick not them. If you are not familiar with the area, get a good directions map from Google. It was not hard to find with those directions since it is very close to a major north/south highway.
