The Crack Man

Had a 5 foot long crack in my poured-concrete basement wall. It was not leaking, but I wanted to have it sealed regardless. Alek came on a Saturday, gave me his estimate, and then repaired the wall. He was very forthcoming by explaining that the repair was not absolutely necessary if there was no leakage, but I wanted it sealed anyway. He did a top rate job and I would not hesitate to use his services again.

Before The Crack Man's visit, water would enter the basement following heavy rain. Since he sealed the foundation crack, the basement is completely dry amid relentless rain. We highly recommend him.

The Crackman asked for some photos. When he saw them he said that while he did not do that kind of work, he could give me advice over the phone, and said I did not have serious issues. The advice he gave me was consistent with the advice I received from Apex. The bottom line is that I have some minor work in my 70 year old house which can be done by a handyman.

Alek wrote me a detailed list of what I should make sure that someone that I did hire would do to ensure I got a quality job. While he didn't do the work for me, he sure made an effort to inform me what I should look for and expect from a contractor. Who does that? Well, Alek. The job went perfect. Alek has the knowledge, technical background, and experience to repair foundation cracks. He thoroughly explained what he was going to do, verified his price estimate, answered all my questions, along with alternatives, prior to starting the work. AMAZING!! The quality of workmanship is excellent and after reviewing other alternatives his method of repair I felt was the best. He called me prior to arrival to make sure the wall was not too wet because of rain in the area. He was on time and the length of time to repair was as promised. Alek was very prompt in responding and up-front about his capabilities. It is refreshing to find a contractor so honest these days. It was very appreciated. I did not use his services for structural engineering but he was still willing to review other work and be available for consultation. Great professional. If I do need such work done in the future, he would be my first choice regardless of price..

Alex provided a lot of helpful tips and covered the repair process in detail. His assistance helped me make an informed decision instead of a panic reaction to a small problem. He did this at no charge.

Alek was very responsive. He promptly called me back soon after leaving a message. He answered all my questions and suggested pros and cons of different alternate solutions (Epoxy vs Polyurethane filling). We didn't go forward with the work, however I am very impressed by Alek's promptness, communication and willingness to share his expertise even before we hired his services.

He took the time to explain to us how he knew that our foundation was not cracked and identified that the gliding glass door was leaking. He pulled back the carpet carefully and showed my husband exactly what needed to be done to fix the problem. He did the same for our front porch cement crack. We could tell he is a master at his craft. Alec did offer a solution for the crack in our front porch but explained that it would actually be a waste of our money at this time and would sctually make our porch look less attractive. Great guy!

Water is getting in around the perimeter of a concrete slab foundation during heavy storms. I was looking for someone to seal all the cracks in the concrete around the edges. Alek told me that was very likely unnecessary. He said 90 percent of cases like mine, all a homeowner needs to do is direct the downspout water away from the house. On his advice, I bought tubes that you attach to the downspouts to carry the water out onto the lawn. Total cost to me: $30. Total savings: about $3000. If I ever need help with something like this again, I will call Alek first.

Alek repaired a long, horizontal crack in my basement 2 1/2 years ago. I am happy to say the repair has withstood all of this year's excessive rain. It continues to remain completely dry. I am one very satisfied customer. Bravo, and thanks, Alek!!

He was very competent. He was on time. He did exactly what he said he was going to do. He charged me exactly what he estimated. I would give him 5 stars. What stood out was his reliability. Overall, he was an A+.

In our garage, of which most is below grade, we had a seam and a crack (about 8-9 feet together) that had been leaking since we bought our house. Had Alek come over, and in about two hours, he had filled the seam and crack). Don't know what he used, but it is fantastic stuff. First time in 7 years our garage has not leaked water. On top of doing a great job, he did it while our kids were watching and was able to keep an 8 and 6-year old enthralled. Great guy, and while I hope not to have to use his services again, I most certainly will if needed.

This service experience, from start to finish, more than met our expectations. We called Alek initially in a panic, as we were selling our home and needed to repair a prior foundation crack repair that was done poorly and with which our buyer took issue 48 hours before our scheduled closing. We needed quick action, and to ensure that it was done right this time. Alek answered the phone at 7 pm at night, talked through the buyer inspector's concerns with us, requested some pictures be emailed to him of the crack (inside and exterior) and scheduled to come out to do the re-repair within 24 hours. We expected our obviously tight schedule (and clearly panicked demeanor) might impact the price we received, but it did not. This meant Alek had to work after normal business hours, drive beyond his regular service area, and for at least part of the time while he repaired the exterior crack, it would be dark. Alek arrived on time, set up strong lighting outside, and got to work. He worked quickly and expertly inside and out. This was a townhouse community, and he even spoke in hushed tones while outside so as not to bother other homeowners who had their windows open! Alek also provided a life-of-structure crack guarantee that was transferrable to our buyers, and which they valued as much as we did. About a month later, we contacted Alek again to fix a few cracks in our newly purchased home. Again, he answered the phone (how often do you get a trade expert to answer a call without needing to be routed, put on hold or called back?), we arranged again to email pictures so he could estimate the time and cost required, and completed the work done on that next Saturday morning, at 8am. We were especially pleased with his pricing as he discounted the repair on the second and third cracks in the home we bought...and even saved us the cost of repairing a few cracks that we asked him to evaluate. He explained they truly did not require attention at this time, nor was it extremely likely that the would enlarge over time. Until this sale and purchase of real estate, we never gave foundation crack repairs a thought. We have since commented to each other several times, that we don't believe that we've ever had such an incredible customer service experience before...from any contractor. He was our first Angie's List-sourced provider we contacted after signing up, and this is our first written review. We feel our subscription has already more than paid for itself after this experience with Alek. His responsiveness, price, quality of execution, the timing from initial contact to completed service, his attention to detail and the neatness in the way he cleaned up after both jobs will simply be hard to top. I took us a while to get the wall fixed because in July it didn't stop raining. Water was pouring in everyday. Once the weather cleared and my leak dried Alek stopped with his tools and plugged that leak. His professional in the phone. He will give you a quote over the phone after he ask a couple of questions about your house and foundation. In addition he asked for several pictures of the crack. All this information allowed him to give me a quote. The guy was clean and left everything in order. Its simple guys, he only fix leaks and he does a great job.

I am currently in the mold remediation project from heck. When the wall was opened up, the remediator suggested that we get in touch with a foundation specialist, as there were some cracks in the wall. I called him on the Saturday afternoon of Labor Day weekend, and he called me back within hours! He said he couldn't help with a cinder block wall, but was able to give me advice on how to proceed from my description over the phone. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll have any use for this company, but I would heartily recommend them. (And who can beat the name, I mean really? :-)

It was a please to deal with Alek. I would highly recommend him for any basement foundation repairs. He exceeded my expectations and the price for the work was very reasonable. Everything was perfect from the phone call estimate, he showed up on time and completed the work as described. What was ever better that he guarantees his work for life! Fantastic. Phone conversation was professional and informative. I tore off the drywall that covered one crack prior to his visit. While he was fixing that crack, I tore off the drywall around the second crack. He explained what he was doing, and how cracks of this sort and age-of-house typically form. The technology is quite interesting. Lifetime warrantee. The very heavy rains a few days later did not make it to my basement carpet! I paid someone else to patch up, as that job is out of scope for The Crack Man.
