The experience was very good, and we would use them again. We got the referral for Mulheron from a neighborhood listserv. We are new homeowners and were not familiar with large tree care, but knew that we had several low hanging limbs that needed to be trimmed. The owner came to do the estimate. He was on time and answered many of our questions. He was very knowledgable as well. He departed, and we received a written estimate by email within two hours. We requested that the estimate include a tree in the front of our house on county property, which we eventually declined to do, instead focusing our resources on two large trees (gingko and pine) in our backyard on our property. We got a second estimate from another company that came in a bit lower, and Mulheron agreed to match that lower price. We went with Mulheron because we felt more confident in their skill level. The crew came within the week and did an excellent job on the trimming. It was done in the exact way we had discussed with the owner, and all debris was removed. There was very little sign of their visit. Overall, we are very pleased with their work and the impact the trimming has on the aesthetics of our landscape.
Description of Work: Mulheron Tree Experts removed low hanging limbs on two trees in our backyard.

This company is the best one I've ever had, and I have many trees on my property. They negotiated on the estimate, and came out 2 days later and did a totally professional job - in fact they did additional things for no additional money, they showed up early, got it all done and cleaned up, making sure I was totally satisfied along the way. Many trees to be trimmed were in close proximity to my deck, requiring a delicate approach to prevent damage. Professional, client focused and service oriented. I won't hire any other tree experts but them!

Overall, the job was superb and they did all the work in 4 1/2 hours. Three crewmen arrived at 7:30am as promised, They cut a15 ft tree down in the blink of any eye. They cut a 60 ft tree down like medical surgeons in a most efficient manner. Using a "cherry picker" enabled truck, one man in the Bucket maneuvered it so that he was able to 1) tire off each limb, thus allowing it to be lowered to the ground in a controlled manner, 2) cut the limb at it base, and 3) two men, controlling the ropes, lower it to the ground. Without any further trimming, the 2 men feed each limb into a large industrial srength shredder, even limbs that you wouldn't think would fit. When the tree was trimmed down to a tall standing trunk, the man in the Bucket cut it in 1 to 2 ft lengths, let it fall to the ground, and the 2 ground men picked up each piece and loaded it into the bed of the truck. All limbs were shredded as soon as they either hit or were lowered to the ground. Because of it's height, 60 ft, the tree to be topped was more challenging. The 3 men threw guide ropes over specific limbs, then 1 man climbed the tree adding more ropes for his safety. When he reached a height of some 45 ft, he strung more ropes over limbs and tired them to the limbs to be cut. As he cut each limb, the 2 ground men lower it to the ground and shredded it. Before the man in the topped tree climbed down, one of the other men came and got me so I could look at the finished work. At my request, he had one more much smaller limb cut as well - most cooperative. When all the cutting and shredding was done, they cleaned each and every twig off the ground and a close-by driveway, and left no trace that all of this cutting had ever occurred. These are professional men who have the tree cutting and shredding process down to a science.
Description of Work: I had 2 trees removed and one tree topped off. Of the 2 trees removed, one had a 2 ft diameter and stood 60 ft high, while the other had a 1 ft diameter and stood 15 ft high. For the tree that was topped, the limb had a 1 1/2 ft diameter, had a length of 20ft and was 50 ft high.

We recently moved into a new home in Bethesda. Shortly after our moving day, a tree service man from another company rang my doorbell looking for work. I mentioned that we had a large limb and several branches hanging over our house in the front yard and asked what it would cost to have them removed. He said $750, and he wanted to do the work that same day. I looked him up on Angie's List and saw that he had no reviews; I googled him and saw that he had three reviews (all very negative). So I declined, and he dropped his price to $650 and told me that would be a bargain. I said I'm sure it is but nevertheless, no thanks. I then looked for tree service people on Angie's List, found Mulheron, and made an appointment. The arborist came out to the house--he was on time and very professional. He walked around my front and back yards with me, identifying all of my trees and explaining to me how best to care for each of them. I learned that the tree overhanging my house is an ash, that the cherry trees near the street are getting very old, and that I have a crape myrtle in the backyard that was under attack by a nearby scrub tree. (Also that some neighbors have a silver maple that could crash down into my backyard some day). When the team of tree service personnel arrived (on time, on the appointed day), they were courteous and professional. To remove the overhanging limb and branches of the ash tree, "deadwood" it (i.e., trimming off the dead bits so as not to be quite so inviting to insect colonies), and remove the scrub tree, Mulheron charged a total of $650. I feel I got a lot more for my money (including peace of mind) than if I had gone with the fellow who had rung the bell looking for work.
Description of Work: Removed a huge limb and branches of an ash tree that were overhanging our house, "dead wooded" the same tree, removed a scrub tree that was threatening our crape myrtle.

Danny came out to give an estimate for the removal of an existing stump and pruning of dead branches on four white oak trees. The estimate was better than other estimates I received. I needed the stump removed right away because I was going to have a large landscaping project preformed to the front yard of my property. They were very good in accommodating my request quickly and would do the dead branch trimming at a later date. The location of the stump was up a hill with only a narrow access between steps and a brick retaining wall. The crew was very careful and delegant getting the large machine up the hill to the area of the stump. They ground the stump down four feet and a large area around the stump that had large english ivy roots. They did a SUPERIOR job which helped improve the entire area for the upcoming landscaping project. I had several companies that wouldn't take the job because of the location of the stump and the difficulty getting the machinery there. At a later date they came out to remove the dead branches from four very tall white oak trees. They did a nice job and cleaned up the work area and removed the debris.

The arborist showed up at the scheduled time to do the estimate. He was very thorough and pleasant to work with throughout the process. He walked me through several options for dealing with the issues I had with my trees so I could make the best choice for us. The work crew on time on the scheduled date to do the work. They were very pleasant and went over the work they were going to do. The work was done in the 2 days that were scheduled and they did a great job. The only evidence that they'd been there to do the work was the fact that I now had sunlight where I hadn't before after all of the trees were trimmed.
Description of Work: Had major tree trimming done on about 8 trees. Also had a huge elm cabled in 2 places to support the divisions.

Mr. Ed Mulheron, president of the company, arrived as scheduled, and conducted a detailed survey of my trees. He explained to me each one of his recommendations. He was the consummate professional. In a few days,he mailed me a proposal of the work that should be done, citing each item in detail, and the estimated cost of each. I would have engaged the company without hesitation, except Mulheron's estimated cost exceeded what I had budgeted. I decided to go for a reduced program and sought estimates from other firms.

They were excellent. It was a big job with two huge trees. They ended up giving the best price. They were very professional. They cleaned up everything nicely. They were very courteous and they had a lot of patience. The man who came to do the assessment talked with us for at least half an hour and he answered all kinds of questions. I had a sense that they were sincere. I thought that some other trees had to come down. But, he said that they were fine and he didn?t try to cut more trees for more money. I was very impressed. They came out very fast to do the assessment, but it took them almost three weeks before the crew came to do the work. They had a long list after the storms and that was understandable.

I received a fast response after my initial call - and got the estimate the same day. The tree service couldn't give me an exact time for when the work would be done. They had to fit me into their schedule. I didn't realize they were even there until I happened to look out my back window and saw them. The work was done quickly and professionally. All trimmings, trunks, limbs, and other clutter were removed. The cleanup was superb. I was quite pleased with the result - although I'll know better this spring once the trees begin to bud just how good the pruning/trimming was.
Description of Work: I had one tree removed (small diameter tree - had grown from a seedling into a very tall, very skinny tree behind my shed), one tree/shrub (6 ft skinny trunk - grown from seedling between their stockade fence and my metal link fence and two trees (one pear, one apple) trimmed and pruned.

We were surprised when a crane came with 4 guys to do the job--on time of course. Two trees were taken down and a huge Oak was trimmed to lift the canopy away from our power lines, house and our neighbors house. Two pine trees were trimmed of dead wood. We kept some of the wood to age, but most of it was hauled away. The workers were extremely careful and neat in their clean up after the trimming. The work only took 4 hours and has given the peace of mind that we wanted to have this winter.
Description of Work: Mulheron Tree Experts cut down dead trees and trimmed the living trees in my garden. The results of the company's work was proved during the recent "Thunder Storm 2011" when the snow fell like clumps breaking huge branches from the trees all over the city. We had no damage or fallen branches from the storm. We were extremely satisfied with the quality of the work and the way all of the steps to get the work done were handled. The estimator, Danny Patterson, was punctual and had a very common sense attitude about our trees. Our goal was to preserve our garden plants and avoid any possibility of damage from ice or snow storms. We delayed the work until our plants were dormant and we were able to get Danny to supervise the work. Mulheron sent an email with a copy of the proposal within days of the estimate.

Ed Mulheron came in to walk our property and was very easy to work with. Since the tree was our neighbor's tree, but on the property line, we asked for an estimate for full removal (in case our neighbor wanted to split the cost) and a second estimate for half-removal (if he didn't). Ed also provided a list of other estimates for other work that we inquired about. His prices were the most competitive. After deciding to go with Ed, I had quite a bit of trouble with his front office staff. After submitting paperwork to get the process started, I never heard back. I followed up with them, just to find out that they were in the midst of a computer crash and would have to call me back. They never did. So I gave them one last shot, and this time it all went smoothly. We scheduled an appointment for late in the day, but the crew showed up first thing in the morning. Apparently they had a mix up - thankfully, I was still home. It worked out great for me, since I prefer first thing in the morning, but not sure how the rest of the day's customers felt about it. The crew was fantastic! It was an incredibly hot and humid morning and they had to deal with a very large, dense tree. The guys worked very hard, running the heavy wheel barrows up our hill to the truck. It was only 10 in the morning and they were sweating buckets, but still managed to be very friendly, polite, and happy. After removing all the tree trunk, they made sure to level and clean the site. Overall, the efficiency and friendliness of the crew won me over and I would happily go back to Mulheron for future tree work.

The work performed was very high quality and professional. My only complaint was that it took a long time to schedule the work with them once we accepted their estimate. Also, I am not sure that we were given the right advice about the type of permitting we needed to have from our city in order to perform the work. Overall, though, it was a good price for a high quality job and I would use them again.

A representative came to survey the situation, and concluded that we would have to have a crane come in to drop the tree and remove the cut pieces to a truck. When it came time to do the job, there was no crane, but one of the crew climbed the tree and dropped it in sections, which the other crew members carried out. They actually removed some tree sections that had been left by a previous tree crew, and this was beyond the call of duty!

Contacted Mulheron at the suggestion of Chris from City Hardscapes (another Angie's listed company) who was coming out to give us an estimate on a parking pad. They were to have met me at the house to coincide with the other appointment. I specifically set the date and time in a call with Ed Mulheron, who understood that tree removal was part of the parking pad project. No one showed up. I called the following Monday and left a message, asking someone to call me back to reschedule - have never been contacted. I'm very disappointed - I took the day off of work to attend these meetings and Mulheron came highly recommended by Angie's list and Chris.

Ed Mulheron came out and was the best price on removing trees at my house. His guys came about 7-10 days after I signed the contract. I came to the house while the work was underway to clarify what was being done. They had it under control and I left before the job was done. I returned home later that day and found all of the limbs that were supposed to be removed were still left on the ground. I called the office and was told that they didnt know why they hadnt been removed, but speculated thatthe workers may have already put in their hours for the day. I was promised a follow up call. Although I never heard back, everything was gone by the end of the day. I would use them again.
Description of Work: I had three different pieces of work I needed done at two properties and called at least 5 tree guys who were "A's" on angies list. This work was for the removal of multiple leyland cypress trees that had fallen as well at trimming of broken branches. I met all 5 tree removal people myself and were comforatble with all but one of them and made the decision on price alone.

I think they were busy and they weren't prompt as the other 2 companies that came out to give me an estimate. I had to call them another time to come out in order to compare 3 offers and not 2. The owner of the company came out and he was very polite. He knew about the trees, as he explained about my trees. He sent an offer a little later and his offer doesn't match with the issues and the type of trees that we have which wasn't good according to me. I also need to get back to them to tell them as to what kind of trees I have.

Mike came to give us an estimate and we received a written proposal from him by e-mail right away. We were able to schedule the trimming for the following week. The crew of three that actually did the job were punctual, professional, polite and tidied up very well. They did a great job trimming the trees which required working close to our house and they were working very hard. Overall, we were very happy with them and would hire them again.
