While they cost more than other tree specialists from whom I got a bid, I had a lot of confidence in their professionalism and they did come down some on price.

The previous year, after a storm blew down a neighbor's tree we called different tree experts regarding what to do with our tree. Mulheron's estimate was higher than some of the others for cutting down the tree, but the least expensive for preserving the tree. I think they are philosophically inclined to preserve trees that can be preserved. Many of the other experts were neutral about whether we cut down the tree or not, and just simply provided two estimates, but we were actually seeking advice.

We were extremely pleased. They arrived on time with a crew of three, explained everything they did and gave us advice on caring for our trees in the future. They had the necessary equipment to take down even the highest broken branches in our mature oaks and maples. The work was done quickly and efficiently, and all the debris was cleared away. This is a highly professional organization.
Description of Work: We had a lot of accumulated tree damage due to winter snows and spring storms. I received estimates from three companies. Mulheron, although the largest of the three, also gave the lowest estimate. In all they trimmed and removed broken branches from 7 trees and removed an ornamental cherry tree that was too badly damaged to save. Clean-up was included.

We had a very relaxed and professional estimator. They arrived on time with crew and equipment. Called the neighbors to inform them of the tree being taken down and got permission from them to access their property to use some equipment on their parking lot. Worked quickly and safely all day. Wore all the professional safety gear, and coordinated with each other with all the finesse and efficiency of professionals that know their craft inside and out. Amazing to watch them use the giant boom crane so adroitly, and the climber guy removed all of, even the tiniest branches of, the dead wood in a second tree on the property. I asked them to cut the stump at a certain height, and lay a 7500 lb log in a specific location in my yard, and working with them to do that was easy and fun. With the power lines and old house roof so close to such a big project, it was a relief to have such an experiences and talented crew in charge.

Actually arrived early each day. All work was performed carefully and professionally. They impressed everyone, including some of our neighbors (who may hire them). They were curteous, and were careful to leave the yard looking as it did before they did the work. We watched the way they cut brances and then guided the branches safely to the ground by a pulley system without damaging the houses or vegetation. They know what they are doing and were very motivated to do the best possible job. The price was very reasonable compared to others who bid.

I will contact Angie's List following the planned procedures - thank you
Description of Work: the company has only made one scheduled appointment and that was to determine the condition of my beloved English Walnut tree - I have found them to be quite reliable as to scheduling - the two "care" schedules will be pruning and fertilizing but I have every reason to believe that my tree is on the road to recovery.

based on angie's list recommendations, we hired Mulheron to execute a trim/pruning of a mature and very tall and healthy tulip poplar tree overhanging our yard. given the height of the tree and overgrown limbs, this wasn't an easy job and in fact we had put it off until now, thinking it would be too expensive and difficult to do. the severity of winter and summer storms only made me worry more. our estimator, danny, was excellent, professional, and knowledgeable. the price quote was competitive with 3 other companies. when the day of the trim arrived, I was around to help direct the work, and witness the skill, finesse and grace of Carlos and his crew, who used both the bucket/boom for lower limbs, and on second day a crew member climbed nearly to the top of the tree for the uppermost branches. it was, in a word, extraordinary--- to watch the crew at work. the only issue we had was scheduling. on day one, the crew arrived at 4PM, having been scheduled for other jobs earlier that day. they managed to shuffle the next day's schedule, to return and finish the job. I highly recommend Mulheron even for the most challenging job. the tree now looks symmetrical, balanced, and glorious in it's new shape.

They were quick, efficient, punctual and the office worked well with getting everything scheduled and setting up payment. It was incredibly painless. I used another firm to cut down the trees, but then discovered it didn't do stump removal. I wish I had hired Mulheron first and gotten it done in one fell swoop.

It went well. They did what they said they would do for the price quoted. The only glitch -- and it was a relatively small one -- was that it began to rain on the day of our appointment, so the crew had to stop working and leave [though they cleaned up]. They did not return the next day, citing previous commitments. But they did come back and finish within a week.

Estimate was very competitive. Work was scheduled reasonably quickly and conveniently. Contractual documents were handled electronically. Work was executed very quickly and efficiently. Foreman conscientiously recognized a bluestone stepping stone had gotten cracked inadvertently by a falling limb, and promised to replace it as soon as possible. This was taken care of, with no further communications or follow-up required, in a few days time.

During the Derecho wind storm in July, a large tree branch split from our neighbor's tree and fell onto our tree. The branch was so large (as big as a large tree itself) and positioned in such a way that we could not remove it on our own. I contact three Mulheron through Angie's List and left a message. I was suprised to get a return call just a few hours later -- the storm had caused quite a bit of damage in our area, and I'm sure Mulheron received many calls. After we assured Mulheron that this was not an emergency, they said they would stop by and leave an estimate, which they did within 24 hours. We decided to proceed with Mulheron and were pleased when they were able to remove the limb within 7-10 days.

Mulheron's approach to this work and their responsiveness to my husband's very exacting expectations was exceptional from beginning to end, which I value as much as the good work they did. The work began with Mulheron's President Ed Mulheron coming to our home to assess the health of the red oak, confirm that it could not be saved, and recommendations and estimate how best to take it down. In this same assessment, which was free, Ed helped us understand the tree permit process that is necessary in our jurisdiction. He advised us about stump removal and gave his recommendation for the overhanging limbs we were also concerned about. We received Mulheron's written estimate within a day. Their price was comparable with one other firm that agreed to come look at our work. My husband and I chose Mulheron after he asked detailed questions of both estimators about how the stump removal would be done, whether equipment could be brought into our narrow back yard, and what each planned to do about preventing our driveway from cracking under the weight of their trucks. Mulheron exceeded his expectations on every detail. Once we had the permit and our neighbor's OK to proceed with the overhang work, Mulheron scheduled and completed the work on the two days my husband specifically requested. On day one, Ed met his three-man crew and reviewed the work plan with them and my husband. Before tackling the oak, the crew went after the overhanging branches (additional work). Ed used an electronic pointer to show his crew exactly which overhanging branches were dead or at-risk of falling on our house. Ed also prescribed some pruning for the overall health of our neighbor's tree. To do this overhang work, they brought a big bucket truck into our driveway. Beforehand, they placed some kind of pads on the driveway that could distribute the truck's weight and prevent our driveway from cracking. After the overhang was complete, the crew took the oak tree down by having one man climb into it with power saws and cut it down piece-by-piece from the top down. The two men on the ground took down each large piece of trunk and limb using a system of ropes and pullies. They then hauled each piece to their truck parked on the curb out front and processed the cut wood with their chipper equipment. The crew followed my husband's explicit instructions about how to access the back yard and where to put things (and not). They even worked out traffic tie-ups on the street out front. The men who came were unfailingly polite and respectful of our property and our strong opinions. The tree and overhang removal took about eight hours. The crew arrived around 8:30 and worked till about 4:30. The stump removal took the better part of day two, and was SO worth the extra expense ($600). We signed off that there were no cable, irrigation, phone, outdoor wiring, or invisible fence cables in the stump area. That's because the crew drove a small tractor-like piece of equipment into our back yard to ground down and dig out the stump and three or four large surface branches. This work made a six-inch deep trench in the circular area about 8-feet wide where the stump and surface branches were. Before starting this messy work, the crew hung a tarp across the full 16-foot window wall of our sunroom to protect those surfaces. That was a really nice touch. They took away all the ground up debris and then backfilled the hole with top soil. They seeded the area with grass and then covered the whole area with straw that will mulch the grass seed during winter and ultimately decompose this spring.
Description of Work: Mulheron skillfully and carefully removed a dying, 60-foot, 50+ year old red oak in our narrow back yard. For additional cost, the company also removed this tree's stump and timmed a dozen or so large limbs of a neighbor's tree that were overhanging our house. All of this work was done with an eye to mitigating risk of falling trees and branches. The red oak stood about ten feet from the rear-facing sunroom wall of our home and another 8-10 feet from the fence separating our yard from our neighbor's. With the bad storms in July and October of 2012, we were very concerned about the tree falling on our or our neighbor's house. That feeling of risk far outweighed our concern about how anyone might take down the tree in a relatively tight space. For an additional $600 Mulheron removed the red oak stump to my husband's specifications -- we wanted to be left with a flat, plantable surface where the tree once was. Mulheron's crew came back the next day, Jan. 8th, to do this work for an additional $600. For another additional $925, Mulheron also took down large horizontal branches on a neighbor's tree that caused us concern. We did this work with our neighbor's permission.

They arrived early in the morning and explained how they would be taking the trees down. Within 15 minutes of surveying exactly what had to be done they initiated the process. The began by taking all of the branches off so that only the trunk was standing. They did this for each tree. Then the crane came out and they began the process taking each of the trunks down. They took all of the debris away. They were absolutely professional and I never nervous about any part of the trees hitting the house while the process was going on. Would hire again -

Mulheron started out at twice the cost of another bidder. As a consumer, I did my homework, I had 3 estimates. Mulheron was twice the amount of a cheaper bid. BUT, they really wanted my business and we negotiated. Having tree service done in winter can really whittle (pun intended) down the cost.
Description of Work: Another tree company had the cheapest estimate, and I had used them before. The folks at Mulheron were determined to beat my other estimate. I showed them the estimate and they agreed to match the amount. Which was almost a 50% difference. the job was huge, and they entire team was terrific. They cleaned up the area without my asking and were very safety conscious.

I called several weeks ago, requesting an estimate. I talked to a very nice person who told me Ed would call me back in the next few days to schedule my work. I never got a call back, so I called again one morning, and was told I would be called back that afternoon to schedule. We checked my contact information at that time, just to be sure it wasn't something as simple as that. I wasn't called back either that afternoon or since.

At a total of $1,450 (remove tree + grind stump) Mulheron's estimate was by far the most expensive of all I received, even with the $350 discount for accepting both services at the same time. Tree removal $900, stump removal $550 (prior to the $350 discount). For comparison purposes, other bids I received for the same scope of service were $750, $500 and $430 ($385 to remove the tree and an additional $45 to grind the stump).
