I called Davis and Davis to schedule a visit to and they were able to come out the next evening. One of the few HVAC companies with evening hours. The technician was prompt and professional and explained the problem with the furnace and the neede repair in a way that I could understand. He needed to order a part and gave an honest estimate as to the time it would take for the part to arrive. He also gave me an estimate on the cost that turned out to be correct almost to the penny. The furnace part arrived within 24 hours and I was able to schedule a visit for that evening. I knew this was going to be an expensive repair but because of Davis and Davis' service and professionalism, this was an overall positive experience.

"Fritz" came to my house, was prompt, pleasant and professional. He answered questions, and explained my options. I did not end of using this company as I decided on a heat pump brand that they do not carry. Also, they do not accept credit cards. However, I would not hesitate to recommend them or use them in the future. I checked both Angie's List and Checkbook.org before getting their name. Also, people on my neighborhood listserve had recommended this company. Fritz was the only one of three companies that I used for estimates, that realized that he could enter through another part of the basement to install the equipment. He was thorough in measuring and giving me options.

I have been looking for a long term HVAC company ever since my 25 year provider retired. Chris from Davis and Davis sealed the deal in one service call. My blower fan quit on a cold morning (funny how it's always a cold morning when that happens). A ripoff artist from a competitor who shall remain nameless, but whose name is on the hundred dollar bill, asked for $1200 for a new fan. Chris correctly diagnosed the problem as a shorted wire, which shorted the control board. He got the fan running on the spot, all for $95 and is ordering me a new control board. In the process, he figured out that the $20 stopcock on the gas line feeding the furnace was leaking gas -- a potentially lifesaving pickup. There's no question in my mind why Davis and Davis has an outstanding rating on Angie's list. It's entirely deserved. I was so impressed, I committed to an annual service contract on the spot, as long as the company promises to send Chris on each visit. The two technicians worked efficiently and quietly for two full days removing the old units (furnace and AC compressor) and replacing with the new equipment. They were neat and left no mess (considering we had a messy winterey mix during part of the installation). The lead tech was very through in explaining how the system would work to us. He explained how to submit paperwork for local inspection of unit (since it was gas) and also the warranties on all the products. We called back to set up a service contract with company and they assured us that we would not need one since this system was so reliable and that it was covered by manufacture for a year--they could have agreed to start a contract but were honest and that saved us money. The unit is quite and very efficient.

The installers were polite, friendly and efficient to the point where it took less than one day to install. Unit worked very well during a very hot summer.

I'm baffled by the good reviews since I used them for a year and had a terrible experience. I had two different technicians come out in the Fall and in the Spring and then a third for an emergency. None of the technicians impressed me. They each rushed through the service and one didn't even want to be bothered cleaning a filter. (I had moved into a new home and didn't have the right size to replace). Each technician told me different things and gave me different answers to my questions so I didn't know who or what to believe. One technician said he would get an estimate for me to replace one of my older systems. I never heard back even though he assured me that someone would follow up. When I called the office several weeks later, they could have cared less that no one had called me. When I finally got an estimate, again no one followed up so they lost that sale. I also think they are very overpriced. They sold me two thermostats at ridiculously high prices. I should have done more due diligence on that but the technician was there and the original thermostats were very old and outdated. The basic contact prices are high too. Needless to say, I did not renew my contract and would not recommend them.

D&D had previously installed our furnace and done the annual maintenance and filter replacement. This year we had to call three times before getting an appointment scheduled. The first two times the person answering the phone took the information and said that the service manager would call back. Each time we waited about a week without getting a call back. On the second and third calls our information was already in the system. On the third call, she went ahead and scheduled a service call. The service technician arrived on time and did the work, including double checking a problem that had been noted on a earlier call. He was polite and professional. Our circumstances are somewhat unusual. The furnace is in a craw space (i.e., is a "low-boy") and we have had problems in the past where a service technician was scheduled who was too large to complete the work. Also the furnace has a special hypo allergenic filter and we have had problems in the past getting the person answering the phone to order and schedule the appropriate filter replacement. Both of these problems may have contributed to the scheduling delays this time. In general, our experience has been like this time: real problems with the home office but no problems with the technicians themselves.

Davis and Davis installed a new HVAC unit for the upper level of our home. Our old unit was marginally functional and not performing well. Additionally, the original duct work installation did not provide proper flow to some of the bedrooms upstairs. As a result, those rooms were extremely warm during the summer months and cold during the winter months. Fritz Beiter @ Davis and Davis recommended that we add an additional return to the room that was not getting any air flow. Their crew, Rich, Mike and Andrew, was professional, courteous, and precise during the two days of the installation of the duct work and new unit. We are hoping that the new unit and return will provide a more comfortable environment for our kids this winter. We also had a new water heater installed. We are enjoying the difference that this has made. We are finally able to have hot shower, not lukewarm ones. We are happy with the care that Davis and Davis provides to their customers. Our HVAC unit qualified for some rebates, and their office carefully took the time to provide us with all of the information necessary to submit the paperwork (They even submitted the Pepco rebate for us). Our next door neighbors recommended Davis and Davis, and we are glad that we took their recommendation. We will call Davis and Davis again with any additional repairs.

We recently called Davis and Davis because our furnace was leaking. I knew it was time to schedule our yearly checkup and wanted to have the leak fixed and tie it into our yearly checkup. The appointments for the check up were not available for a couple of weeks and they were very kind and did our service for the leak and the checkup the next morning We have been using Davis and Davis for 12 years. 12 years ago our air condition went out and needed to be replaced and we went with them based sole on the great price (no Angie's list back then). We have used them for all our heating and air conditioning issues.

They do a great job. They always catch little things that are helpful. They are great. They are definitely top notch. I recommend getting an annual checkup. I just started doing it 2 or 3 years ago. Since I started I haven't really had any problems. We go over everything and they give suggestions. They are always looking to give me helpful tips to make sure the system is running. Their price is pretty reasonable. Their quality is exceptional. They are always on time. They say they are going to be there that day between a certain time; they give me a 2-hour window and they are always there.

The work went well. During the fall furnace inspection the Davis and Davis technician had noted that the motor was wobbling and cautioned that it might fail during this fall/winter heating season. We opted to replace it ASAP and Jim at Davis and Davis ordered the part. Ivan arrived on schedule, or even a little before, with the part, worked quickly and was done with the repair in less than 40 min.

My gas boiler is about 75 yrs old, probably original to the house. I never had any problems with it until a contractor to Washington Gas came to install a new gas meter. This seemed strange because the gas meter was not old or malfunctioning as far as I could tell. He did not like the boiler so he 'red-tagged" it and turned the gas off. I believe he was just trying to get me to buy a new boiler. I will tell Wash Gas to stop allowing these contractors to go to people's houses and mess around with their heating systems. But that's another story. Next I asked a technician from Company X to clean and restart the boiler. He fiddled with it for a while, banged and cussed at it, then refused to restart it, saying it was beyond repair and needed to be replaced. Before getting estimates from several heating companies I figured I'd get another opinion on my boiler. So I got Davis & Davis to send a technician. He came and inspected it, got it going again. He said it is OK now, just needs a good cleaning. He said it's obsolete, not as efficient as the newer boilers, and replacement parts are no longer available, but it works just fine. It doesn't meet today's standards but it is perfectly acceptable by the grandfather rule. Plus, unlike new boilers it does not need electricity to run; (with Pepco's track record you know this is important.) The technician who came to my house from Davis & Davis is Keith. He is honest and competent and awesome. He saved me $5000 - 6000 today. That is why, when I do get a new boiler, I will probably get it from Davis & Davis. Now I will write a report on Company X and tell why I will never hire them again.

I have had a service contract with Davis and Davis for 11 years to maintain my heating and A/C systems. They have kept my ancient furnace and A/C working far beyond their expected life spans, so I am pleased to recommend them for a service contract. They are always on time, giving a two hour window on the day of the inspection, and a half day window in the advance appointment. All of the technicians have been very professional and have answered all of my questions.

I love Davis and Davis, and it takes a lot for me to love a company. 2 & 1/2 years ago we purchases a new AC unit from them, which they installed. Then on Friday the AC unit stopped working. So here is why i love them: 1) I called Friday night around 7:00- and spoke with one of their representatives. Yup, at 7;00pm on a Friday i was able to talk with someone. 2) They agreed to send out a technician first thing in the morning to check on the problem. I should mention that i do not have a service contract with them, yet they were happy to come out immediately on a Saturday - and not charge me extra. 3) The technician arrived on time and called right before he came to make sure that we were there. 4) The technician found the problem right away (it was with the motor) and showed my husband how to restart the motor if we have the problem in the future so that we don't have to call them and incur a repair cost. 5) The technician noted that we were still covered under the manufacturer's warranty and recommended that we get a replacement motor since the motor didn't sound right. I really appreciate that he did this rather that just waiting for it to break down again (and have additional service call charges). 6) They ordered the replacement part and came back a couple of days later to install it. Overall this experience was on par with all of my other experiences with Davis and Davis. They are always prompt, knowledgeable, helpful, and do a great job. I?m not sure if there prices are the cheapest in the area, but they seem more than fair and for the work and the service that Davis and Davis provides, I?d never go anywhere else.

The air conditioner broke five weeks after the warranty. They stood by their companies’ warranty and replaced the parts at no cost. I am happy with their services.

Initially I called another firm that had done service for us before. They charged $185 to check an a/c unit that was not working properly on a weekend. Their proposal was over $9000 to replace the compressor and other parts and relocate the unit. I then joined Angie's list, checked the BBB listings, and checked my neighborhood email group. I contacted companies that looked good on all 3 to call me to get a second estimate. The first to respond was Kevin Smith of Davis and Davis. Kevin came to the house quickly and at no charge. It turned out that he had installed the existing unit about 24 years ago and replaced the a/c coil in the interior of the house around 2003 (3 years before we bought the house) when he installed a new heating system. His estimate and final cost for a new exterior compressor, relocated as we requested, was $4100 and the work was performed by 2 excellent technicians as scheduled, efficiently, with excellent results. At my request one technician did a recheck this week at no charge to make sure all is working perfectly. Outstanding service in all respects. I will certainly use Davis and Davis again for a/c and heating service. One final point: the dogs had dug dirt around the compressor and that clogged the compressor. The first firm blamed the failure on the dogs and recommended a complete new a/c system. Kevin said the failure was unrelated to the dogs...a part failed that he could replace for approx. $300. Because of the age of the system he recommended a new more efficient compressor and we agreed. We relocated it outside the fence that encloses the dogs to be safe. DO always get a second estimate!

We woke up to go to work and realized the A/C had not been cooling, although the blower was running. We called, and the person on the phone suggested a couple of things that didn't work, so they made an appointment for later that day. The repairman showed up on time (5 min early, actually) and was very efficient in diagnosing and resolving the problem. They then tested the system and left. They were polite and courteous.

Davis and Davis staff were very responsive from the begginning when I contacted them. They provided timely estimates and documentation and answered all questions. Their prices was very competitive too. There was no pressure to sign with them and I felt they offered the right equipment for my house, plus they replaced some of the pipes and did insulation work. My place was left very clean at the end of the job. The level of noise is very low for the new AC unit compared with the old one. I hope the electricity bill will be low as well.I would definitely recommend them in the future.

Fritz Beiter from Davis & Davis is excellent - and not pushy. He gave us his recommendation and estimate for what he thought would be our best choice. He didn't think we needed a system with all the "bells and whistles" which would have been very costly and would have required quite a bit of disruption to our finished basement. Systems proposed by other contractor were about $17, 000 and $22,000 plus cost of repairs to our basement. We are senior citizens who need to watch our budget but wanted to install a quality, updated system. We are very happy with what Fritz recommended, and the Davis & Davis technicians installed. Price reflects $200 coupon, and in addition we received $1,l00 rebate from Carrier.

I asked for an evaluation of the furnace and air conditioning units to determine whether they should be replaced. The evaluator came within a day or two and after looking at both pieces of equipment, recommended that they not be replaced as they had several more good years to go. Davis & Davis put in the original equipment and could easily have recommended replacement but gave me what I thought was an honest answer and not self-serving. I will continue to use for both maintenance and any new items when they do become necessary.

The company dispatcher promptly scheduled a visit within 24-hrs of our call. The individual sent was on time and he quickly diagnosed the problem. He did not suggest that one of the working components that was 23 yrs old needed to be changed. Because the start of extremely hot weather was anticipated the next day, we got tips on how to be more efficient with using the HVAC. We've lived in DC for 20+ years and in this house for 4 yrs. Best experience with HVAC repair company by far. We'd ask the company to send this same individual back next time.
