Figures out the problem that PEPCO created and fixed it so we had heat in the middle of the winter

Everything went smoothly, work started promptly, even received the rebate.

My AC's conked out so I tried to in vain to fix it. The secondary fuse had blown, so the thermostat wasn't getting any power and therefore shut the system down. When I replaced the fuse, somehow the AC unit (set on cool and 70) was blowing out hot air (not just the hot air in the house, but the heat was on!) I called Davis and Davis at 9AM the next morning to see if I could schedule someone to come out that day. They gave me a window of 2-5, and offered to call me 30 minutes before arriving, so I did not have to leave work to just wait at the property. I got a call at 2:15 that they were on their way. Eric came out and quickly found the issue; the last AC company had come out and wired and set a replacement thermostat as a heat pump instead of a gas heat/AC unit. Eric rewired it and correctly set it to the "Gas" setting. It started blowing cold AC immediately. He then rechecked the rest of the system to make sure it would keep blowing cold and the fuse wouldn't blow after minutes. He found some exposed wires and covered them to prevent another short. Eric was really professional, and didn't mind that I asked a lot of questions and looked over his shoulder the whole time. He took the time to let me some of the basics that I did not know. He also had a new 5" filter in his truck that I bought for $49. It was a little more than if I had been able to find it at HD or Lowe's, but I wasn't able to find it there, so it was exactly the right price! I'd definitely give Davis and Davis a call if I need any more work on my AC unit.

We'd been leaking freon from our heat pump for months. Sadly, we had a home warranty company (don't get those. Ever.) Their tech's came out and put in Freon multiple times, but insisted there was no leak. We needed three Freon refills in 8 months. There was clearly a leak. Davis and Davis confirmed the leak, and additionally jumped through multiple hurdles to try to help us out with the home warranty company. That was a definite pain for them, and I doubt they'd do it again, but we very much appreciated their effort. We asked them to quote a system replacement, which they did. We received an estimate from another well-regarded company as well, and Davis & Davis was 10% lower. We probably would have gone with them anyway if they were slightly more expensive given the trouble they'd already gone through, so it was an added bonus that they were significantly cheaper. The new system works great (no A/C during the summer was not much fun). Also, every interaction we had with Davis & Davis was completely professional, and their technicians were always very prompt with their appointments. We plan to use them for annual maintenance, and would immediately recommend them without hesitation to someone else.

Unfortunately, Davis and Davis doesn't serve my neighborhood in Gaithersburg, but they have been my mother's company of choice for Air Conditioning services in Silver Spring for over 30 years. When I told them years ago how sad I was that they wouldn't come out to my place, they made a referral for a great company that does serve my area, and I've been very happy with their referral company for all the years I've lived here. If I ever move back to Silver Spring, Davis and Davis will be my first choice for service again. I realize this isn't a typical review, but Angie's List won't stop prompting me to write a review so here's what I have to offer. :)

We contacted Davis & Davis for a standard service on our heating and cooling system. They did not respond to our phone message, email, or web request. I guess they don't want any business.

They were on time, professional and extremely helpful and very knowledgeable. They listened to what we wanted and needed and offered us options that met our needs at different price points. In the end, we went with another provider on the basis of price, however, the quote we had from Davis & Davis was very competitive (it was the next best price), and they had a slight edge in terms of professionalism.

We have a maintenance contract with them. They are prompt and do a good job on the maintenance. They are trustworthy.

I had to replace my entire air conditioning system--the air conditioner in my back yard and the air hander which is in an unfinished attic. Work included adding floor boards for the air handler and installing a light in the attic. Everything took two days to complete. The technicians were very professional and good about answering all my questions in a clear, understandable way. I was very pleased with the outcome. I have used this company for my air conditioning and heating needs for many years and have always been happy with their work.

Company came out to inspect the 20+ year old furnace and air conditioner, as I had a home warranty that was expiring. Very professional and thorough. They identified that my furnace was overheating and there was an airflow issue, and found insulation in the squirrel cage. Initially the rep thought the cause was the the construction of the air duct but made sure to check the entire system to find the cause. A previous contractor had missed this issue last fall, claiming it was functioning normally, so I appreciated that Davis & Davis found the problem. The rep was helpful, showed me proper maintenance, and gave me a fair estimate of what issues to expect with the system. I made an appointment through their Kensington number and plan to start a maintenance contract based on my positive experience.

There was an unexpected electrical short and the repairman worked to ensure the system was operating perfectly. Our system components are not new and we have been happy with the services received from this company since 2012. We appreciate a company that isn't in a hurry for us to replace equipment that is older but still working, and possible to place under a service maintenance agreement. Ask for Ivan if your house is in Washington DC - he's an extremely knowledgeable technical expert.

I have waited about a year to write a review to see whether the installed units function without a hitch for at least one year. They are all in good working condition. My interaction with Davis and Davis started with an appointment for an estimate with Mr. John Harper (Sales Representative). John provided me with a written proposal that includes several options and associated prices (Manufacturers: Lennox and Carrier; for Lennox, several alternatives). The quotes included rebate offerings from manufacturers and from Pepco as well as tax benefit. Davis and Davis was the first provider I contacted based on the ratings available in Angies List. So I contacted several more high-rated (per Angies) providers. Some providers were not aware of factory rebates nor Pepco rewards. One provider promised to give me heating and air-conditioning capacity analysis report, which never came to me. The offering from the Costco was not quite as attractive as that from Davis and Davis. After about a month from the initial contact, I decided to go with Davis and Davis. During this time, John had to revise his proposal about three times because I kept changing my mind about the equipment to be installed (e.g., from XC14 to XC17 for Lennox A/C unit). On the date of installation Jorge and Kevin arrived at the appointed time and started working on the project. They were quite competent and did not mind me watching over their work. They accommodate my wish willingly (e.g., rerouting gas pipe so that air filters may be more easily replaced). The quoted cost was $8,875.00 after Davis and Davis discount of $200.00. Lennox paid me a rebate of $1000.00 for XC17 and Pepco paid me $500.00 for installing efficient A/C unit. Davis and Davis did all the paperwork for me. At the end of the year, Davis and Davis provide me with necessary document that I needed for filing 2013 tax. In short, Davis and Davis was superb.

Excellent. Company called to confirm time and was prompt. (There was a cancellation the week before and the company called to see if the timeframe worked for me. I wasn't able to reschedule, but was impressed at the thoughtful attempt to come out sooner.)

They were wonderful. The guy came out and gave an estimate. He did exactly what we wanted. He seemed to understand what it was that we were trying to achieve. He gave a good cost. He didn’t try to sell us something that we didn’t want. The technicians came when they said they would. They finished it when they said they would. The price was real good. We got other estimates that were about $300 more.

We are deciding on the system we would like installed. They came when they said they would and were knowledgeable and professional. Did not try to sell us more than we needed.

The company was very good to deal with. They were punctual and very professional in performing the work. We were impressed with the quality of their work.

We called on Sunday, they came on Monday. They came and fixed it, they are very reliable, very honest. We were very satisfied with their work. With annual contract repairs are usually covered.

After finishing construction on our new home, our independent inspector recommended purchasing a whole-home humidifier from Aprilaire. I looked up the Aprilaire dealers on their website. Davis & Davis Air Conditioning came up 3rd on the list in relation to our zip code at 19.46 miles away. I then looked up Davis & Davis on Angie's List as well as other dealers on the list. The page for Davis & Davis on Angie's List states the service areas as Montgomery Co. and Prince George's Co. The website for Davis & Davis says they service Montgomery Co., Prince George's Co. and Washington DC. I live in Upper Marlboro, MD near Six Flags but was told they do not service my area after being asked for my zip code. Davis & Davis may want to change their listed service areas to say "parts of Prince George's Co."

They did a great job. All three units were well past their prime, but the furnace was on it's last leg, only working intermittently. Davis and Davis came by, as scheduled, to give me an estimate on replacing the three units. As it turned out, the furnace had stopped working the night before - they had a technician stop by later that day to get it back up and running even though I'd not yet decided if they would replace the units. The estimate they gave me was thorough and addressed all the issues I'd raised and then some. They were also careful to ensure they didn't over promise, so my expectations were in line with the end product they proposed. They also gave me plenty of time to consider my options - no sales pressure which I appreciate. This was a two day job. They arrived on time, were efficient and courteous. As with the estimate, they addressed all my questions and concerns. They were also careful to leave the place as clean as they found it. All in all I'm happy with the purchase and with Davis and Davis.

It went great! A salesman came out to look at the first system, which was over 25 years old (the second system died before the the first system was put in), and spent more than 2 hours going through the house with me and looking at what was needed. He sent me a proposal with different options within a couple of days (I did research on my own, too). He came back, walked me through the options and that night my husband and I looked at everything and made our decision. John also talked us into a less expensive system, "...it's wasteful to get a more powerful system than you need." Having done all this upfront work, it was easy to choose what to put in, when our second, smaller system died. Davis and Davis were very accommodating with scheduling, it was summer and we were in & out of town a lot. The workmen were great, came when expected and cleaned up well when they left. I've been using Davis and Davis to service my heating and cooling systems for more than a dozen years. I just wish that my contractor had used them when we had our addition built.

We discovered on a very cold Sunday morning that our 22 year old furnace had given up the ghost. I contacted Davis and Davis after reading a few reviews on Angie's List. They came to the house that day before 11:00 am. After a half hour diagnostic (at my request) we agreed that the furnace needed to be replaced. I also decided to replace the AC unit as well because, although it had not yet given us any problems, it was the same age and would only be a matter of time. On Monday am KEvin from Davis and Davis came to the home and put together a bid. I also contacted another contractor to get another bis for comparison. The bid process from Davis and Davis was straightforward without any haggling or attempts to upsell. The same could not be said about their competitor. I contacted Davis and Davis Monday night and on Wednesday evening we had heat. The following day they finished the installation with the AC unit. Davis and Davis was quick, courteous and reasonable. We truly appreciate their service and understanding to our plight (no heat). A less than reputable company might take advantage of our urgency and price their bid accordingly.
