BLINKHORN PLUMBING

After discovering our water heater had spilled all over the basement, we were anxious to get it replaced right away. Mr. Blinkhorn called me back right away (around 8 a.m.) and was able to send out two of his crew to replace the water heater at noon on the same day. He provided an estimate (which they stuck to) and answered my questions. Mr. Blinkhorn was very professional and informative. The guys who came out did a good job overall. They disposed of the broken water heater and installed the new one well. They were young and not incredibly professional, but they did the work well and we haven't had any problems with the heater since.

Process went very well. Worked with Mr. Blinkhorn to describe the problem and set the schedule. They showed up on time and finished up in a couple of hours including travel time to purchase non-standard pipe for the repair. I've used Blinkhorn numerous times and always receive quality work. The cost might be on the high side but you often get what you pay for.

It went very well. The plumber arrived early and finished the work in less than 2 hours. In the case of the bathroom faucet, he did not have the manufacturer's specified part but was able to adapt a part from another manufacturer to make the faucet work well.

I was in the midst of a renovation project. Prior to installing a new hardwood floor, I called Blinkhorn to consult them about reinstalling 2 radiators that had been removed prior to the renovation. It was necessary to wait for the new floor to be put in prior to reinstalling the radiators, but I wanted to make sure that any necessary preliminary measures were taken so that there would be no complications with the re-installation. I spoke to Walter Blinkhorn over the phone and he seemed very knowledgeable about this type of work, talking about provisions that would likely have to be made, such as making sure the pipes leading to the radiators were in the right position and had the necessary mobility to compensate for the change in floor elevation. We agreed that someone would come to take a look. One guy with a brace covering his entire leg--Ray--was sent over the do the assessment. (I thought this was strange, considering that it was conceivable that some work might need to be done, potentially involving moving a cast iron radiator.) Ray promptly announced that everything was OK and that I should go ahead and install the floor. He assured me after repeated questioning that nothing had to be done in advance of the floor installation and that we would have no problem installing the radiators after the floor was in. Still skeptical, I called Walter to report Ray's findings. We spoke at length, and Walter continually reassured me that he had utmost confidence in Ray's assessment. My floor was put in, and just as I was preparing to call Blinkhorn to schedule the radiator re-installation, Walter called to inform me that they would be unable to do the work: Ray had been fired (for reasons not related to his broken leg) and the only other plumber working for the company had just broken his arm. Walter advised me to seek help elsewhere. I proceeded to call other plumbers to come and do the work. Three other plumbers have since been here and all assert that the radiators cannot be easily reinstalled because the radiator pipes were not adequately prepared prior to the floor installation. I am left with the choice of destroying my brand new baseboards, walls, and potentially floors, or else demolishing the ceilings of the rooms below to gain access to the pipes. There are of course no guarantees that complications won't arise in either scenario, not to mention the costs/time involved--all of which could easily have been avoided had I not trusted Blinkhorn's original advice. After hearing this news, I called Walter back because I thought he deserved to hear my account as well as an opportunity to redeem himself. He discounted all of the other plumbers' opinions and pronounced that he would be in touch about coming to do the work himself. Three weeks later, he still hasn't called. My advice: avoid Blinkhorn plumbing or get a second opinion on any kind of delicate/complex/expensive job.

Overall, Blinkhorn provided superior service.

Walter Blinkhorn gave me an estimate to replace our hot water heater, add a garden hose faucet into our backyard, replace the kitchen faucet, and threw in tightening our sink disposal discharge and unclogging our bathroom sink. He gave us a bit of a ballpark estimate for each of the jobs, so we haggled a bit to come to a very fair $1,500. All items seem to be in good working order, very little mess was left in our basement for the HWH installation, and we plan to continue using Blinkhorn for our plumbing needs.

Arrived within 30 minutes of promised time, work completed promptly, later inspection showed it was completely in code. Only problem was not having the permit pulled at the time of the installation, but that was quickly remedied. Lowest price among 3 plumbing companies in area.

I thought they were really good. I like how they always treated me like I knew it all and that they answered any questions that I had. The work they completed was excellent. They were here and gone very fast. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

They came out to do the work when they said that they would come. They charged a reasonable amount for the job that they did. Their work was excellent. They were very nice and very professional.

They didn't charge me anything because I told them that I was putting in new toilets. I guess they thought they were going to get the job for the installation. They came right out in an emergency.

The toilet took a bit longer, as the floor was not level, and so it had to be corrected. The toilet was done very well. I know that it was a bit pricey, but I chose toilets and faucets that cost more. I thought that they did a good job and will be using them again for sure.

I am very satisfied with his work. I have been using him for a very long time and I have never run into any problems with his work. I know I am going to keep using him in the future because he leaves everything how he found it and the pricing is normal.

They were fairly prompt. They gave us a quote over the phone and stuck to it. I was very happy with them.

They answered my call immediately and scheduled an appt. for an estimate within 4 days. They had to reschedule but called in advance and moved it to the following day. The arrived on time. Checked out the radiator and partially bled it. This, along with the estimate, cost $110 which was pricey but I thought it would be applied toward any further work. I scheduled for them to come out a week later to perform the work. They estimated $600. They ultimately fixed the problem but it cost $825 and the estimate was not applied toward this cost. I am happy the radiator works properly now but the tech said he had to snake the basement shower in order to drain the heating system which was needed to fix the problem. If he had just called me to tell me the shower wasn't draining & asked to snake it first I would have told him to use the utility sink in the basement which would not have required snaking (the shower drains fine if you are showering) & the extra time/expense.

Whoever answers the phone at Blinkhorn knows what he's doing! He was able to give advice and recommendations based on my descriptions of the problem. The crew showed up on time, were friendly, efficient, clean, and were out of there in one hour. I couldn't be happier with the experience.

The plumber arrived on time and confirmed the order. He began immediately disconnecting the old water heater. By the time he finished with old heater, a new heater had arrived and was immediately installed. The old heater was removed. An excellent job from start to finish.

Came promptly. Removed old water heater and installed new one. Removed all debris. Neat, prompt, professional.

The operator on the phone was extremely rude. Told me that they could not help me because they do not service DC because they do not have enough plumbers. I felt like I was getting the brush off. She said they would call me back but she did not even take my phone number - that was my first clue.

They were very professional and I appreciated that they came to replace my toilets even though that didn't usually service the area. I took their suggestions for which type of toilets to get and I am pleased with what we got and they came when they said they would.

I specifically asked for 2 guys so the job would go quickly - and they only sent 1 guy. The exact same thing happened last time I used them a couple of years ago. This company seems to have 1 very experienced polite guy (Walter) manning the phone and 2-3 young guys and 2 vans doing the work. I was quoted $900 for a std 50 gal WH replacement which was a good price compared to other estimates I got. On the day of the work, I did ask that the a new shut-off ball valve be installed to the WH water line and the contractor complied for an additional $50. The kitchen sink replacement and bathroom sink replacement went pretty well. They didn't have 1/4 turn shut-offs for the bathroom sink lines even though I had requested them - but the screw-type work OK for now. It was $200 each to replace the sink faucets and add the new shut-offs; that was less than 1/2 of other quotes I got for that same work. There were 2 additional $50 changes, which I agreed to, for some small tasks.

They were prompt, polite and very friendly. They were I think a little more expensive than others, but were very good.

I have two sinks in the kitchen, back to back. One of the faucets was leaking and the first person to fix it did a terrible job. I called Blinkhorn. They came on time, told me what I needed, ordered the supplies, called me when ready, came again at the time appointed, did the job promptly and cleanly. About three months later I called them because one of the faucets had an issue, they came and fixed it right away. They are great!

Plumber arrived exactly on time. Work was done correctly although I had to convince the plumber to repair the second toilet where the hardware had not yet completely broken. It had become noisy and sounded like it was failing. Would I hire the company again? Maybe, but I feel the cost was high compared to the work performed ($30 for parts) and the time involved (25 min). I'll shop around.

Prompt, professional, honest, fast, reasonable. I was easily able to arrange an appointment. Rob came on time, performed the work quickly, and was forthcoming with honest advice on how I can do the work myself next time. Made recommendations without trying to sell me anything. I'd recommend them as a honest local pluming company.
