I have had a lot of bad experiences with plumbers in the past. However, this company was very patient, and everything turned out absolutely perfect. They are always on time, and very professional. I also appreciate that they wear shoe covers when they come into my home. I have continued to use them, and I would highly recommend them.
Description of Work: They replaced the pressure release valve in my home. They also replaced a water heater for me in the past.

The area under my sink smelled awful and I could hear water unusually loudly going down the pipes, but no leaking water. I was happy that Blinkhorn answered the phone on a Saturday, told me there was probably a clog and would come out on Monday. The plumber on Monday said he couldn't find a leak and checked crawl space under the house. He said the smell was likely from the crawl space and the noise in the pipes was because the insulation had fallen off the pipes in the crawl space. Charge: $80 with the Angie's List discount. Noise and smell continue. On Wednesday night I noticed water seeping up from under my floor tiles. I just had a new floor put in in August and the tiles were now loose with water bubbling up between them. I called Blinkhorn Thursday morning, and someone was able to come out within a few hours. This plumber looked under the dishwasher, saw a small puddle and said it was a dishwasher problem and that I should call someone to repair it. He was about to leave when I asked him to check the sink (which he said he didn't need to initially). I told him at the beginning more water came up when the faucet was running and I hadn't run the dishwasher in two days. So he finally goes under the sink to take a look and says "Oh no, there's a big hole in the pipe." This was my concern all along, but if I hadn't been pushy it still wouldn't have been found. The hole was in the pipe beyond the dry wall and dripping down under the dishwasher. So the plumber tells me he can fix it and the charge will be $225, including the $95 charge for coming out. I told him to call the owner because if the leak had been found the first time around, I wouldn't have had to have them come out again. He goes out to his van for a while and comes back saying the owner will take $25 off, take it or leave it . I wasn't happy (not because I felt like the total price was so high but because I now have to pay to have part of my kitchen floor to be replaced and the fact no one at Blinkhorn seemed to care about any of it) but didn't want to start all over with finding a new plumber since this was an emergency. The plumber was able to replace the leaking section of pipe in less than half an hour. As far as I can tell, the leak is gone. However, now my kitchen floor is torn up and drying out, something that could have been avoided if the leak had been found the first time around.
Description of Work: The company fixed a leaking pipe under my kitchen sink, but it took until a flood in my kitchen for them to find the problem and fix it.

Blinkhorn was willing to work around my schedule, and they came out 2 days after I had initially called them, and did not charge me extra for the quick response. The plumbers showed up on time within the 2 hour window. They took about 1.5 hour of remove the old heater and install the new one. They cleaned up after themselves, including whipping down the tile floor at the entrance to our house. Our new water heater is working perfectly, and we have had no problems with it. My only small complaint is that they were in a hurry to leave and did not go over step by step how the new water heater worked. There was also some confusion over the warranty, which was in part my fault ( I hadn't notice the extended warranty sticker on the water heater), in part the water heater company's (Ruuds) which had given me incorrect information, and in part that the invoice did not list the warranty we had agreed on (it was quickly corrected when I pointed it out). Overall, Mr. Blinkhorn was very responsive to my questions about the warranty and got it sorted out for me to my satisfaction. I would definitely use Mr. Blinkhorn plumbing services again.
Description of Work: We needed our old water heater replaced with a new one, including buying a new heater, removing the old one and installing the new one, and bringing it up to code for DC. I had contacted a handful of plumbing companies, including the contractors for two large home supply chains, and found Blinkhorn's price to be competitive. Blinkhorn did not try to sell me unnecessary upgrades that are not required by law, as some companies will try to do. They seemed honest.

The initial phone contact was very professional. I was asked some information about the heater, such as the serial number and one or two other things. They dispatched someone promptly. After looking at it, the service person gave us two options - to replace or repair it - with the exact and final price for each option. I never felt intimidated into a decision by technical terms or scare tactics. There was no pressure at all. I asked some questions that helped me make a decision, which was to have it replaced. The service person was able to complete the work within two hours. He was very courteous and professional. The price was exactly as quoted in advance. We are extremely happy with the work that was done and with our decision. We will definitely use them again for any plumbing related work. Thanks to Angie's list and to customer reviewers to help us have a good experience!
Description of Work: We had a hot water heater that only provided five minutes of hot water before running cold. We knew enough about hot water heaters to suspect that the lower heating element was broken, but it was beyond the scope of our capability to fix it. We wanted to have the element itself replaced.

When our main pipe suddenly backed up leaving us in a mess, I called for help and Mr. Blinkhorn's team juggled to fit us in. The two man crew arrived promptly, replaced the main drainpipe (running between the first floor and the basement) and quickly got us back in service. They also scoped the rest of the iron pipe to check for additional problems. The camera showed that the pipe beneath the basement floor had some cracks developing, but would last a while longer. While not pleased with the news of future repair bills, we never the less appreciated the additional scoping and the warning so we can plan for the eventuality.
Description of Work: Main sewerpipe replaced and backed-up drains cleared and flushed.

Blinkhorn was excellent. The person who answered the phone was very knowledgeable and after listening to the problem, had us provide information so that the plumber could arrive at the house with the corrrect part already in hand. Once there, the plumber tackled additional problems with great competence and gave great advice.
Description of Work: A part broke off the shower/bath controller so that we could not get the water to come out of the shower head. Blinkhorn replaced the diverter and did some misc other tasks as well.

Plumber was punctual, arrived on time and completed work on time. The office called afterward to see if we were satisfied with the work and we appreciated the follow-up. They were easy to work with to make an appointment and they worked with our schedule. The plumber is the one who noticed we had a crack in the toilet flange and he was able to fix it instead of replacing it. He also came back a second time to install the tub fixtures after we finished the tiling, which was helpful.
Description of Work: Reposition existing plumbing, which included installing new tub valve and re-routing sink drain for better drainage. Plumber also noticed a cracked toilet flange so repair of that was added to the job also.

The entire experience was positive. Our first call was answered by the owner who was cordial and made several suggestions including where we could purchase a garbage disposal (and what type) at a reduced cost. The plumber who came to our home was friendly, efficient and made several suggestions as to how to keep the kitchen pipes clean.
Description of Work: From the intial call to schedule the service throught the end of the service call, everyone was cordial, helpful and professional. The plumber replaced a garbage disposal and kitchen sink faucet. Also, moved the location of shut off valves under the sink to make them more accessible and cleaned the pipe.

Our water heater pilot assembly went out and after deciding to replace the water heater instead of fixing it (again) I began a search on Angie's List for someone who would do quality work at a fair price. We decided to go with Blinkhorn Plumbing and do not regret the decision. Mr. Blinkhorn made suggestions for the size of the replacement water heater, based on our family needs. He sent a crew out the next day to replace the water heater. The work was done quickly and efficiently. There were a few pipes that needed replacement (which was a minimal additional cost) and the workers also offered to install a shut off directly at the water heater (to replace the one that was no longer functional).
Description of Work: Replaced old water heater as well as some piping and installed a new water shut-off valve at the water heater.

We have lived in this house for only 8 months; the home inspector told us the water heater was from 2004, so we expected it to last for another 15 years or so. When this happened I called Blinkhorn b/c of the Angie's List recommendations and their proximity to my house. Hugo came for the initial visit; I wasn't home (my mother was) so he called me to give me the (rather scary) details of the problem with my water heater. He gave a very thorough and understandable explanation. It turns out it was manufactured in 1998 but installed in 2004. The previous owners never serviced it so sand had built up in the heater and boiler (there was sand on the ground near the boiler. He said that it was in bad enough shape that it was at high risk of overheating and actually exploding! He recommended replacement and gave me a price of $1350 for the heater and installation. I called around to a couple of other Angie's List plumbers for second opinions - they concurred with the assessment, but were higher priced. I asked Blinkhorn to do the installation and they scheduled it for 3 days later (a Friday). The day of the installation they called to cancel b/c of another customer's emergency - they were extraordinarily apologetic and professional about it (I spoke to the owner, Mr. Blinkhorn). They rescheduled for Monday morning and it went without a hitch. They cleaned up after themselves, and you never would have known they were there. Even though they had to reschedule, they were so professional and did such a good job at a good price, that I give them all A's. I'll definitely call them for any future plumbing problems.
Description of Work: We heard a loud rattling coming from our water heater with some water leakage. The water temperature was not affected, and the heater continued to work. I called Blinkhorn to come make a diagnosis, and they responded very quickly, coming out 1 day later. They recommended a new water heater as well as a replacement valve for the boiler.

I called, got a person (A top rated company had put me on hold, I hung up after five minutes), after discussing my plumbing needs she told me that she could send someone out that day. The plumber arrived 30 minutes early, took care of my sewage backup which involved disconnecting my utility sink, snaking the drain out. It took two iterations to clear the line. He reassembled everything. He then inspected my valves and told me that both would need to be replaced, he recommend that I purchase what I want and have them come back. He quoted me a flat fee for that service that sounds reasonable for what is involved. The plumber was very professional and polite. I am completely satisfied. The bill was $200 which was quite reasonable to me.

Four days after having a baby with bunches of friends/relatives expected over the next week, we discovered water on the floor of the basement coming from the water heater. I called Blinkhorn at 8:30 the next morning, and they had someone at my door with a water heater 2.5 hours later. It was more expensive than I would have liked, and if it hadn't been urgent I could've saved quite a bit of money and gotten a better water heater in the process, but given the situation I was in, they provided exactly the service I needed. They charged an extra $75 to replace the isolation valve to the water heater that was stuck open. The work was done competently and efficiently, and though I would go with someone else for normal plumbing work, if you need a water heater today or have a plumbing emergency, it's worth a call to Blinkhorn.

Great customer service, when calling for a quote I spoke directly to the owner, Mr. Blinkhorn. He was very friendly, went over all the options, and answered all of my questions. On installation day the two installers arrived on time, they did a good job and were courteous. The job took nearly 3 hours, longer than I expected, but not a problem. The only issue I had was that the installers spoke to each other in Spanish the whole time.

I used Angie's List as my guide to finding a plumber who would reasonably and professionally replace an old natural gas water heater. I only called businesses that are highly rated on the list to begin with. Blinkhorn?s Plumbing is rated exactly where it should be, #1. The shower knob was very loose, and when they were finished there was still a great deal of play in it. The man that was doing the work came to my home at 11 AM; left to get a part, then came back and worked in my home for approximately 45 minutes. Then, was done by 1:15 PM. The original charge for their service was $570; however, when I called to complain my bill was corrected immediately, taking $200 off the price. I was very unhappy with the service, as I feel the work was unsatisfactory. The faucet and the plug needs work as well, and I was told by the man doing the work that it would be very expensive to fix, saying it would cost $1000 to replace them both.
Description of Work: I called them to do seal a bathtub and to fix a very loose water knob for my shower.
