Mike Rogers, the owner, came to my house to examine the existing windows in order to prepare a proposal. In a day or two, he presented several replacement options based on window quality and price. His proposed price for the brand and type that we chose was lower than the price we had received from a competitor for the same brand and type. He was gracious during the review of the proposal and added tempered glass for a couple of windows at no additional cost. After signing the contract, Mike came back to the house and took precise measurements of each window. He quickly recognized construction issues by pointing out special measurements for a couple of front windows that were mounted against a brick wall. I asked him then about replacing a walkout basement door that had one pane of glass broken and he said he could do it but that I could alternatively call a glass company whose name he suggested to replace just the glass. His suggestion turned out saving me considerable money. The installation went smooth over two days. His crew was experienced and professional. They cleaned up after they finish and reminded me to call after tow weeks to report any crack on the caulking. As expected, some cracks developed and Mike answered my request to fix them by coming to the house to touch them up. After researching the topic and providers for more than two months, I am very satisfied with the new windows and the job that Mike and his crew did. Mike was very friendly during the entire process and I felt at ease doing business with him. That is why, when the opportunity came up, I recommended his services to my daughter.

Our sales rep was polite, professional, and honest. The price we were quoted was the same as Window Universe, but we chose AWS because we wanted to support a smaller company, we preferred the look of the Vytex windows, and the Vytex windows are manufactured in Maryland (Window Universe's Revere windows are manufactured in North Carolina). Both experiences were very good, but AWS lacked some of the informational literature and direct price breakdown structure of Window Universe. Nevertheless, Charlie's first offer penciled out the same as their closest competition. After signing, we waited about 45 days for the windows to be installed. The crew worked quickly, cleaned up almost every tiny scrap of debris, and did a very nice job applying even beads of caulk.

They did exactly what they said they were going to do and when they said they were going to do it and for the price that they said. They were no surprises. They were very professional. They time line was spot on; they said it was going to be one day to change out 16 windows and it took them one day, they said three for the roof and it took them three days. It was perfect. They absolutely cleaned after themselves, every bit of mess they cleaned it up. Even after they cleaned up, they raked my yard with a magnet rake that picked up any metal that was possibly in the yard. The magnet rake picked up nails and anything they could not see. They were great. I referred them many times and some of my neighbors have used them.

Excellent they took great care of me.

Mostly great. Done on time and on budget. One ripped screen took months to get fixed. One gouge in wall caused by window replacement. Nothin awful, mostly good. Would use again.

The owner is very responsive, follow up promptly and is good to his word. The crew showed up a the right time, works well and is clean.

Jim Lithau did an excellent job on the walk-thru of the house and made recommendations that made the decision to go with American Windows & Siding of VA an easy choice. Jim provided an excellent product with an excellent cost. The crew came despite the snow that was falling throughout the night. They shoveled out an area and placed sheeting on all parts of the floor where they worked. I was impressed with their work ethics and diligent speed of which they worked. The individual that did the trimming was impressive as he worked with speed and accuracy in the cold weather. I would and have recommended this company to anyone looking at needing window support.

The double door windows needed to be special ordered. It took a long time and I did not hear anything until they came in - several months. The installation of all windows went well, but two of the double door windows had mistakes and had to be reordered. The whole job was extended because of that.

The project went very smoothly, from estimate through installation. Cost was substantially less than that of Pella. Since custom doors/windows were involved, installation was not set-up until the contractor could inspect the products. Our schedule was accommodated for the installation. Installation was expected to be 1 and 1/2 days, but only was 1 day. Installation crew really seemed to know what they were doing.

It mostly went well. The only hitch was at the end. The original proposal listed: "1) Prep windows for lead paint @ $35 per opening additional.*" Then at the bottom indicated "Total Contract Price $5700.00." We thought we would then have to pay $5700.00 but the contractor added 12x$35 = $420 for the lead paint so the total price was $6120.00. The price was still better than other estimates we got so I dinged them in the ratings for professionalism. As for quality? The work was done well and on time and the windows look good. How long will they last? Only time will tell but they come with an unconditional lifetime warranty from the manufacturer and a lifetime labor warranty from the contractor.

I had 3 estimates and Gary from American Windwos & Sidings came in with the best price. Gary constantly kept us updated as to when the job would begin. The crew came as expected and did a great job. When the job was completed they completely cleaned up all scraps. Plus, there is a 50 year warranty on shingles. No more leaks inside the house from a worn out roof. We were completely satisfied.

Ed from American Windows was extremely helpful throughout the whole process. From the beginning, he was very responsive and flexible when it came time to setting up the appt for the estimate. he arrived on time and the entire estimate was done in about 30 min, with a price given. over the next 10 days, my wife and i went back and forth between colors, styles of doors, etc. With each of my questions and proposed changes, Ed replied with what the changes in price would be. Eventually we settled on a standard french door with an accompanying storm door and the order was set. About 8 weeks later, we setup an appt for the install and Ed was able to setup an earlier start time so the workers would start earlier in the day as my kids would be napping during the install. On the day of the install, the team actually showed up an hour earlier than they had planned, which was great! They went straight to work. They covered up all the furniture and moved some of it as well. They had the old door out in about an hour and actual french door was up and finished 2 hours after that. They then started the storm doors and i have heard they are difficult to install and after seeing the difficulty the team had with my storm doors, i can see why. they must have installed, removed, and installed again the same pieces of the frame at least 5 times before giving up and building a new one; but, they did not give up or take any short cuts. They were able to get it to sit just right and the rest of the install went off without a hitch. While 2 members were working the storm door, the third installer was finishing the inside work and wow was he a perfectionist! he must have spent an hour alone on the applying a bead of caulk around the molding he installed and making sure it was perfectly even all around the door. it is nice to see someone take such time and pride in their work. while the doors did take a while to install, i am extremely happy with the rests and the door looks great. if i ever need another door, i will def be using this company again.

From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with this group. I had initially only wanted to repair my french door, but quickly realized that it was beyond repair and Ed Dunn was extremely quick and flexible in setting up an appt. he arrived on time and quickly went to work measuring the door and going over the options which were available to me. 35 min later, i had a full estimate. over the next week, i went through several modifications and each time, Ed was very responsive via email for new price quotes. In the end, we ended up going with a standard french door with storm doors. i sent in the deposit with the modified contract and the doors were ordered. Skip ahead 7 weeks and Ed and I were setting up an appt. I had specific time requirements in that i needed the crew to start as early as possible. they had told me 1030 and the appt was set. On the day of the appt, they actually showed u at 930, which was great as I had initially wanted them to start earlier than 1030. the crew went straight to work setting u drop clothes and tearing down the existing doors. in less than a hour, the old doors were out and they were cleaning up the frame. about hour and half after that, the french door was up and secured. then the fun started. it took them 3 hours to get the storm installed as they had some issues getting it to sit right, but they never gave up or tried to cut corners. after about 2 hours, they got the door in and started on the detail work. all i have to say is wow! the molding looks amazing and i swear the guy working on that must have spent on hour just to make it look right. every little detail was installed correctly, right down the screw covers. i honestly could not be happier and if I need another door or windows, i will def be going with them.

Mike from American Windows was there for the whole process: Estimate, pricing and installation. The windows look great, the price was only marginally higher than I could have done it for myself as a DIY project, the work was done in one day. Mike made sure we conformed to the home owners association rules. I'm very happy and can highly recommend American Windows.

We used this company previously to install siding and gutters, and to replace all our windows, a sliding glass door, and two garage doors. We were so pleased with the quality of the work that when it came time to replace our double front doors, we called Charlie Gunn to help us again. The price was more than competitive, the workmen were thoroughly competent, and the job was done when promised. We have already recommended them to others and would happily do business with them again.

all went well. mike rogers actually came to our place for an estimate. its always nice to see the head hancho come out to do some work. his numbers for less than others (washington windows and home depot $600-700 per windows). he did not give us a lecture about windows (washington windows spent 2 hours here giving me an educational lecture about windows? no, don't need it) and listened to us about not needing fancy windows?just one that is decent (washington windows whipped out fancy windows with expensive price even after telling them we wanted to go on the cheaper side). price was $500 for each window...i'm new to home scheme so i still wish they were cheaper. waited 3-4 weeks for the windows to be delivered?took awhile to set up a day for installation but they came in, did their work, and cleaned up well. windows are neat, clean, and they work! would hire him and his team again for future windows.

As promised, the person called before coming out. Unfortunately my ringer was off and I didn't hear the phone. Still, he came out and arrived on time. After listening to my request, I was told that the most cost effective and efficient way to replace the single exterior door was to go through a big box retailer using one of their contractors. He explained how it worked and why it would be better for me to go that route, given the small scope of my project. I appreciated the honesty and the guidance on how to move forward with someone else. While he was there, I asked him about a couple of other projects we've been thinking about and once again got some good honest feedback. Of the two other projects discussed (1) breaking through an exterior brick wall to put in french doors leading onto a screened in patio, and (2) turning the screened in patio into a 3 season room by adding windows, the second is the one that makes most sense and seems affordable. If we ever decide to screen in the patio, I'll definitely call this company for a quote. The professionalism I have experienced to-date suggests this is a good company to deal with.

I was very pleased with AWS and the quality of their work. When I called with concerns about some water damage issues, and how the sliding glass door was originally installed, they were responsive and attended to my concerns. After surveying the area, Mike assessed what needed to be done to ensure the area would be completely water tight. He did not cut corners. He did not argue with me. He personally made sure the appropriate materials were on site. It was a relief. I agree with other writers here that Mike can have an edge to him. Give him a chance. He is honest and came through for me. He honored his lifetime warranty and gained my trust.

Estimator and installers were professional and courteous. The service was performed in a timely fashion and I was very satisfied with the work and the product.

This was the first time I had purchased windows, and had not realized how much detail was involved. I received 3 quotes, and of the 3, American Windows had the best price, without any of the discount games the other two were playing (buy today, or by this date or the price goes up). I really hate those sales gimmicks. Gary Tober of American Windows just laid out the pricing for each option, and patiently answered my many questions. We had alot of back and forth over email regarding manufacturers, warranties, colors, options, and the inside frame for the bow window. Gary was honest in saying that they could stain the frame, but since that isn't their specialty, it might not be to the standard I was looking for. So he worked with me to deliver the unfinished wood frame several weeks prior to the installation so that I could stain it myself. The bow window is the largest size that could be installed, which presented a few structural challenges. We had alot of back and forth about the best way to anchor the weight of it, and how to cap off the bow window on the outside and have it look aesthetically good without compromising the structure of it. American Windows took alot of care to listen to our concerns, and get that right with us. I've read alot of reviews about windows in general from people who said they seemed ok, and then the windows did not hold up, or the seals were not good, so I held off on writing my review for a while. It's been almost 2 years, and I can say my Windows have been terrific. What a difference it has made in keeping out the heat, cold and noise. Very professional job.

His company doesn’t do steal doors. He was extremely nice and patient with me. We talked about installing a door in my storage room and wanted to make sure no one would push it in.

Mike and his employees were great. Mike was responsive in coming out to give us an estimate, and particularly good in staying in touch while we made our decisions about whether to go forward with them and what windows to get without being pushy. He was also willing to answer a lot of questions about the different window options. When they did come out to install the windows, they did a good job and managed to complete the job in one (long) day. Mike continued to be friendly and responsive in following up to fix a couple of installation issues that we noticed afterward, even though most of them were really minor. The price was also very reasonable compared to estimates we got from other companies. I feel like we were able to get a good deal without sacrificing quality or customer service.

As often recommended, I got estimates from three window companies that had mostly good reviews on Angie's List. The first company turned out to be a high-priced, high-pressure sale and the salesperson left off by saying "come back if you get a better price and I'll see what I can do -- there's some room there". That was a major turn off for me because I didn't want to negotiate on price, I expected the best/fair price the company could offer. She also spent more than 2 hours giving me her schpeal -- which was very salesy. The second company was solid in terms of their product (I checked ratings) and the sales person was nice enough but had proposed some "additional" costs such as spray foam in the old rope cavities and a $100 per window "lead rebatement cost" which seemed overly steep. I was glad I got this 3rd and final estimate b/c American Windows was competitive on price (about even with the second bid) and windows they recommended were right for my house (good value, based on ratings). The installers were great. Very careful not to make a mess. Knocked the job out in one day. Came when they said they would. I had an issue with two torn screens and they came and picked them up and rescreened them and dropped them off in a week's time. Had one small leak during Sandy but decided to see if it was a fluke and they said they'd be happy to take a look if it happens again. Seems like they guarantee their work nicely. Have recommended them to others.

We received a few quotes for the work but American Windows and Glass was clearly less expensive than the others. Additionally they were open to doing additional work that was a bit unusual (installing a custom made stained glass in one of our transoms). We really felt that they wanted to help us, not just make a sale. In general everything went without a hitch except one major issue - the door we ordered was a new model and we were among the first to order this style. The manufacturer had issues in making it so there was a large delay from the time we ordered until the time the doors were installed. We understood that this was not the fault of American Windows, but the manufacturer they used. Although this was not what we wanted, the product was worth the wait. Once the door arrived, American Windows was quick to install it and it looks great! We are thinking about upgrading our windows and will definitely look to use them again for this work.

The installation was done promptly and mostly well. However, there were two issues, one of which may have been due to a lack of clarity on my part. When I discussed this the next day with Gary Tober (the American Windows representative I had been working with), he immediately said they would be sure to fix the problems to my satisfaction. And they did. Problems can often arise in such projects, and what distinguishes a great firm from others is how well they address such issues. I am highly satisfied with their final work, and would strongly recommend American Windows and Siding to others.
