We contacted Tri-Star to have them check on porch and post lamps that were not working properly, and to discuss addtional outdoor lighting solutions. The electrician, Deb, and her helper arrived on time. As it turned out, the porch and post lights were working on the day they arrived. Deb checked the switches and several other things. I then had them change three outlets to the grounded three pronged type during that visit. Then Deb looked at the property and suggested outdoor lighting solutions, which included extending in height two existing posts and installing flood lights, and installing a new flood light in a carport. Tri-Star supplied the fixtures and materials needed to extend the poles/posts. The work involved trenching and running new electrical wire. Greg phoned after the work was done to make sure everything was working properly. We then had a problem with the post light not working again. Deb came back out and determined that the problem was a short in the old underground wiring and ran new underground wire to the electrical panel. Also, because the dawn to dusk lights were not turning off and on at the right time of day, Deb suggested switching to timer controls, due to the heavy tree cover/shade in the area. This was done. All in all, I believe Deb came out three times to complete the work and make sure everything was as we wanted. Greg phoned several times during the process to discuss plans and appointments and to check that we were satisfied. Deb and her helper were very efficient and always on time. The company overall was very responsive and wanted to make sure we were completely satisfied and that everything worked as it should. We will use them again.
Description of Work: Installed three new flood lights, including two which required extending in height existing poles, and running new underground wiring. Corrected a problem with post lamp not working (required running new underground wire.) Switched the controls from dawn to dusk sensors to timers. Changed three outlets in the house to the three pronged type. Tri-Star supplied all fixtures, timers and the materials to extend the poles.

Tri-Star Electric did a Great Job! From the first call I made, the staff was friendly and knowledgable. When I scheduled service I was given a 4 hour window and the technicians showed up on time in a Tri-star van and were very neat and professional. They completed the service in a timely manner and made sure I was satisfied. I would definitely recommend them and will be using them in the future for any electrical needs I have.
Description of Work: I had several light switches/plugs in my home that were in need of assessment and replacement. I also had a couple of outter lights that needed to be checked and replaced if necessary.

We had a circuit that kept blowing every time we turned on the space heater. Troy checked everything out, determined the breaker was faulty and that we had an extra breaker to which everything could easily be rerouted. He switched the breakers, checked that everything was working by letting everything run about 15 min, and was on his way. I gave a "B" for professionalism only because he smelled strongly of cigarette smoke, and I am sensitive to that smell.

When contacting TriStar Electric to schedule an appointment, I was greeted by a very polite gentleman named Greg. I was really impressed with his customer service and enthusiasm with assisting me in troubleshooting some of the issues I was experiencing which could possibly prevent me from having to pay for something that I may be able to fix immediately. His genuine concern made me realize that I had definitely contacted the right company to take care of my electrical needs. I was able to get an appointment scheduled two days later Also, Greg was considerate enough to provide me with a two hour arrival window. The technician, Troy, arrived to my home on time and ready to work. He was very polite and thorough in his investigation of my electrical issues. He was able to resolve all of my issues, however, the landscaping will require another visit which I will definitely request for him when scheduling to have the exterior lights replaced. The electricians were very educated and hard workers. There was no goofing off to use more time. I will hire them again if needed.
Description of Work: On September 10, 2012 I called Tri Star Electric after reveiwing the company profile on Angie's list. I explained to Gregg on the phone my days off a limited and I would like to have some work completed as soon as possible due to a circuit breaker I have that keeps blowing. Gregg was very knowledgable about what my problem was and advised they would need to run a direct line from the electrical panel to an outlet for the microwave due to the fact it takes a larger amount of current. He gave me an estimate of between $400 to $600 depending how much difficulty they would have running the wire. On September 11, 2012 at 0740 I had a knock on the door and it was Tri Star. I showed them what the problem was and they told me exactly why I was having the problem and went right to work. In an hours time they ran a new wire, rewired the electrical panel, and even put in an additional outlet for me on the basement wall that I requested. I was amazed at the professionalism of there work and everything only cost $400. I had questions concerning other wiring issues I have been having with outside outlets and they gave me very detailed answers of what should be done to correct the problem.

I called TriStar b/c we have been having some electrical troubles in our house. First of all, the lady who answered was exceptionally nice and took time to discuss some potential solutions. Then she said, "Let me send this note to our dispatcher and get this taken care of for you." In just a few minutes, a very pleasant young man named Greg called me back to tell me they could have someone there as soon as we were read.... Wow, really great service!! A very professionally clad service tech was waiting in my driveway before I was even home to meet her. She found the first problem immediately, and systematically went through house to find and repair the rest. She cleaned up after herself at every step. This is a large house so it kept her working for hours.. She was pleasant and checked her work behind her... The work was outstanding. She made very reasonable recommendations for replacing a few small components and then showed me why. Never, while speaking to anyone at the company was the conversation about the money.... It was always about getting here and fixing our problem... Yes folks it's true, a company that is actually enthusiastic about their work and helping their customers! She did a ton of work, taught me how to fix a few things, and stayed until ALL the problems were fixed. To top it off, the bill was very, very reasonable... Surprisingly low. Fantastic work TriStar! Thank you.

I purchased a ceiling fan through Lowes and they assigned TriStar Electric to install it. I was given a two hour window of when the technician would arrive (1-3). I gave Greg a call to see when he thought his technician would be there and he e-mailed me back quickly that Troy would arrive at about one o'clock. Troy arrived promptly at one and we got started. He answered all of my questions and was very friendly. He made sure that everything was perfect with the installation of the fan. The remote I purchased was not working. He scheduled a time two days later to come back and install a different remote. Troy came back right at the time we scheduled and he and Juan installed the remote. Troy was insistent that we made sure everything worked just the way i wanted it to, as i wanted to use the remote from the loft ( He adjusted the antenna on the remote receiver multiple times). I love my new fan and would definitely recommend TriStar Electric!

A few of the ceiling lights in our living room and foyer would not longer light. Troy and his assistant arrived on time and finished the work quickly. They diagnosed the probem and made the repair. They even took off their shoes when they entered the house! We were very pleased with the work and felt they did and excellant job. We will use them again, should we need any elsecritical work done.

As detailed above, I am out of state in North Carolina and my rental in Maryland. My tenant called explained that the breaker would blow after turning on the dryer after cloths were washed. I called Tristar and they found the faulty breaker and replaced with a new one.
Description of Work: I live out of state and have a tenant in our Elkridge property that had the electric dryer blowing the breaker. Tristar was able to arrange a timely repair, coordinated with my tenant and completely replaced old with new breaker. This was accomplished in a professional and punctual manner. I will use Tristar in the future!! The repair was a bit pricey for just a breaker replacement.

The service was excellent. The owner came to give me an estimate on Tuesday, the same day I called to ask about getting one. He made recommendations, discussed my options with me, and sent me an estimate by email the next day. He did not ask for any money up front. Someone called the night before to confirm our appt.He sent two electricians to do the work on Friday. They were here from 7:20 AM to 3:00 PM. They brought all the equipment they needed. They were careful with our house and furnishings. The job was complex and it took a long time but they worked steadily. They asked questions to make sure they were doing what we wanted. We added some things, such as more dimmer switches, and they completed those also. The owner of TriStar Electric came by in the afternoon to bring the electricians something they needed, so he saw how the job was going. We left for an hour for lunch and felt confident leaving them in the house.I would hire them again.Our address is not the address listed below. We live in Laurel MD now.

They switched out three recessed lights in the living room with eyeball lights and changed the wiring so that, of the 6 recessed lights, one switch controls half and another controls the other half. Great. Debbie was my electrician. She showed up right on time, replaced the wire, installed the surge protector, and helped me figure out what the next steps were to get my AC unit back on track. and drywI called the company and spoke with Scott O?Neil. Scott set up an appointment to look over our property to determine the best location for a generator and to give us an estimate. Scott explained the different types of generators and we opted for a 20K which would power everything in the house should an outage occur. We decided the best place to install the generator was behind the garage. In order to place it there, a gas line had to be run from the meter at the front of the house and an electric line had to be run from the back of the house. Again there were options and we decided that it would be best to run the lines underground which meant trenching from the back of the house to the back of the garage (about 15 feet). There was a question about the need to cut holes in the ceiling to get the gas line through the house. The installers were great, they were able to snake it through without cutting holes. That avoided a big mess and dry wall work. There was a glitch when the person building the base for the generator put it in a slightly different location than the one we wanted. When I contacted Scott, he offered to move it at no additional charge to us. It would have required additional trenching so we decided to leave it where it was. The generator was placed and the electric panel that would take control should an outage occur was installed. The first inspection (to check the gas and electric lines) passed with no problems. The trenches were filled in and everything was ready to go when the second and final gas inspection failed. We were told that we needed a new gas meter because our current one wouldn?t handle the load when the generator ran (a dangerous situation). It would have been nice if he had told us at the first inspection instead of assuming it would be replaced. I was very upset and immediately contacted Scott. He said he would fill out the paperwork to have a new meter installed but it could take months. Not what I wanted to hear since winter was coming along with potential outages. Luckily the utility company responded quickly. They needed the plumbers here at the same time. This was arranged and the new meter was installed. We passed the re-inspection and the generator was up and running. Our contract also included one year of routine maintenance. The first visit was six months after installation. Two weeks after that visit, the weekly generator self test ran very rough and there was a strong smell of gas in the yard. This had never happened before and we immediately called Tri-Star and Scott?s cell. At the time, Angie?s List indicated that Tri-Star provided 24 hour emergency service. We left messages but didn?t get a call back over the holiday weekend or even when the office reopened. When we called again we were told they couldn?t come out until the following day. We decided to look elsewhere for future maintenance and posted a negative review on Angie?s List. After the review Scott called to say that there was a clerical error and that Angie?s List should never have shown 24 hour emergency service. They changed the listing to show they don?t provide emergency service. Scott apologized to us, gave us the name of an emergency contact and offered us an additional year of maintenance. We decided to continue our relationship with Tri-Star since we had been happy with them before this incident. Incidentally, the resolution to the problem was to change the weekly test from running at half speed (which is advertised as running quieter) to full speed (which really isn?t that much louder). Everything has been running well since then.

Very well - and they gave us a break on the switch price because they had it on hand.
Description of Work: The circuit switch to our master bedroom malfunctioned and needed replacement. They came out as soon as they could and fixed it very quickly. The main service manager Greg was very good about getting back to us quickly and the electricians who came out were friendly and responsive. We were fitted in between other calls due to the nature of our problem. Another place I called wouldn't have been able to come out until the next week.

First contact with Tristar was with Greg. Very professional and courteous. He had me describe the type of work that needed to be done and check the make and model of the panel to make sure the technician would have all the available material for the job. He tried to set a same day appointment with me, but based on the panel I had, and my time frame we decided next day was ok. Matt called ahead about 20 minutes before arival to make sure I was there. He arrived at the designated time and performed the job very well. Matt was also very professional and courteous and I would use Tristar again for electrical needs.
Description of Work: Based off of a home inspection from a buying agent, they requested to have GFI's installed in the kitchen , assess the health of the electrical panel and check the breaker protecting the heat pump. Matt (electrician that came out) made sure to keep the work area clean and tidy while he did the work, and cleaned everything afterwards. GFI's were installed in a professional manner, he checked the panel as well as the heat pump to make sure the calculated protection was sufficient.

For a time , my lights had been dimming and appliances reacting to fluxuations in electric current in my townhouse. My neighbors were not experiencing this. I called Tristar to check out whether the problem was in my house or with BGE. They successfully isolated the problem as BGE, and BGE came immediately and made the repair at no cost to me. I felt confident going to BGE with the problem with the proper diagnosis, and also that my house wiring was not dangerous.

The electrician was prompt, courteous, knowledgeable and efficient. He investigated the problems, offered solutions to them and then did the work. I was very pleased with the outcome and the cost was about what I had expected.
