In late 2010, when I was going through the blowout/winterization process, zone 3 of my irrigation system would not open. I called Montgomery Irrigation to find the valve (the original installation, by a different company, was sloppy and did not mark valve locations) and repair it. They came out as promised and (using some kind of magic that I don't understand) found the valve. Then they had to ascertain whether it was the valve that was bad or if the electrical connection had failed. They had absolutely no idea how to trouble-shoot the electrical connection. I had to do myself, while they watched and occasionally expressed doubt about the process. When we finally determined that it was a bad valve, they replaced it. While they were fairly careful about avoiding damage to the lawn during the valve location and replacement, they made kind of a mess in their initial futile attempts to locate the wiring (which, actually, turned out to be irrelevant). The next season went smoothly, though zone 3 is one that is lightly used. When I started using the system in April 2012, I began noticing a lot of puddling around where the valve had been replaced. After a while, I could see water bubbling up near the repair. I called Montgomery Irrigation back out and they again dug up the valve area and found that, during the prior repair, the outlet pipe from the valve had been cracked. So they fixed the damage they caused. But then they tried to charge me for the second repair! After much more time and many more phone calls than should have been necessary, they canceled the invoice. Last season, 2013, I noticed that the valve for zone 3 was intermittently sticking open. I came out one morning to find that it had been running for 5 hours! I began using zone 3 very sparingly and only when I could keep an eye on it. This season, 2014, I set up zone 3 to come on at 7:30 a.m. so that, if it stuck, I would see it right away. So this morning, it stuck open again. I am able to get it to close by cycling power to that zone. (By the way, I have not had any problem with the valves for any other zone -- just the one that they replaced.) I don't want to call Montgomery Irrigation because I don't want to go through that whole process again. I am very frustrated with this company.
