I own a home where my elderly mother lives. The Saturday after Thanksgiving we had a pipe in the ceiling of the family room spring a leak. I was out of town and desperate to find a plumber to stop the leak and any further damage, and fix the pipe. I pulled my laptop and read reviews here on Angies List. I was actually able to reach Joseph Heil Company. It took about two hours for a plumber to arrive. He fixed the problem, was very good to talk to and helped my elderly mom recover from the whole experience. The good parts were how quickly they got to the house on a holiday weekend, how well they did their job and how good they were to talk to. The bad was - emergency service on the Saturday after Thanksgiving is expensive! I'm actually glad I was able to find someone who was not only in town, but willing to come running and fix the problem. The only other bad part was, I "think" they forgot to turn the hot water back on. We had the company come out a second time during the week to fix another problem that could be handled at their normal "during the week" prices. Since they had been to the house already, they waived a fee when they came back the second time. This bill was much lower than the first. They snaked some old cast iron drains, made sure the hot water was working properly and again made my elderly mother feel comfortable with the work they did. I'm very happy I hired them and will use them again.

Upon Mr Heil's arrival I went through the punch list of work: replace 2 sets of polybutelyne shutoff valves, install sink/vanity in powder room, replace sink in downstairs bathroom with sink from powder room, and replace kitchen faucet with one I supplied. Faucets for both bathrooms were also supplied by me. The estimate was most likely fair but much higher than expected. He did not want to use the sink from the powder room to replace the one in the downstairs bathroom (the drain pipe needed to be removed); he suggested a new sink and faucet (he said mine was cheap) but included the cost of both options so I could go either way (there was only $13 difference). I decided to skip replacing the shut-off valves and did the work myself. I bought a $7 hack saw at Home Depot for cutting steel, copper and iron and had the drain pipe off in 20 minutes. Bought the necessary supply lines, hooked everything up and there are no leaks. The cheap faucet works fine especially for a bathroom that gets minimal use.

This was the third company I called to get an estimate to replace a hot water heater. They were competitive, available, and had excellent recommendations. I called at 8am, asked them to do the job, and the job was done by about noon. Ed Heil was both punctual and professional, and did a very clean job.

The contractor dug a small hole near the water service valve. He fed a cable through the existing polybutylene water pipe, and then pulled the new copper pipe back through the ground with the cable. The existing polybutylene water pipe was removed during the process. The job went very well and they were done in about an hour and a half. Unfortunately, they had to wait several hours for the inspector to arrive and approve the work before filling the hole back in and seeding the ground.
Description of Work: Replaced 3/4" polybutylene water pipe with 3/4" type K copper and replaced the pressure reducing valve.

They did a good job. They did it very neatly too. There are two ways of doing that kind of work; one is they have to trench the whole yard. The other way is to pull a line through a hole and that’s the method they used. It costs similar amount either ways because you are either paying for all the labor to dig it up or you are paying to a company like this that has the machinery to do that. So, they have that. They are not the cheapest, but they are all close.

Description of Work: My pipes burst and I was having flooding into my neighbor’s garage. They developed a technique where they could pull the new pipe through the old pipe, and it costed a lot less than other estimates I got.

I found Joseph Heil Plumbing by searching Angie's list. The number of positive reports encouraged me to contact them, in addition to one other company. Ed came out the next afternoon to do the estimate. Heil had the lower of the two estimates. They were very thorough in the estimate and in informing my wife and I of what would be required. They were very easy to deal with on scheduling the work. We had one misunderstanding on the date and time that was as much my fault as their's. But they were very apologetic and worked hard to accommodate me in rescheduling the job. Eddie showed up on time to perform the work, patiently walked me through what would be done, and answered all of my questions. He was very interested in me being satisfied with how everything would be done. He even took some of my suggestions to heart and tried to run the gas lines for the gas logs so that they would be as inconspicuous as possible. Since my current gas service was insufficient to support the gas logs I had purchased, they had to add a gas pressure regulator that was not expected at the time of the estimate. But Ed stopped by to make sure I knew this before the work was performed and that I was OK with the additional cost. They had to return on the day that BG&E showed up to replace the meter. Eddie was right on time again. The toilets they recommended and installed are fantastic. All of the plumbing work was very professional. The quality of their work overall was excellent. They labeled all of the gas lines and walked me through using the gas logs. The entire team was extremely easy to work with and friendly. They took time to make sure everything was done well and that I was satisfied with the outcome. Their prices are not cheap but they are fair for the quality of work that you get. I plan to replace my electric range with gas in the future. Heil will do the work. I won't bother to call anyone else for any work that Heil can perform. I've found my plumbing company for as long as I live in the area. It is so refreshing to find an honest, friendly company to work with. I highly recommend Joseph Heil Plumbing.
Description of Work: Repaired one outside hose bib, added another hose bib, replaced two toilets, ran gas piping for two gas dryers and gas logs, and installed gas logs I had ordered online. Gas piping involved coordinating with BG&E to upgrade my gas meter to support additional capacity for dryers and gas logs.

Description of Work: Requested an estimate for polybutylene repiping in my home. They were punctual regarding arranging for the estimate but the estimate itself was wildly higher than all others I received. I ultimately was able to have the work done for about $5,000. Heil's estimate was $14,000!

Upon a recommendation from a neighbor, I got an estimate from Heil. Ed Heil came out within an hour of calling and gave an immediate quote. I also got an estimate from another neighbor-recommended contractor who quoted a larger, 1" water line and was several hundred dollars more, even adjusting for the increased price of the larger line. I discussed the water line size with Ed and felt comfortable that it was unnecessary given the fact that I had 3/4" inside the house and had a relatively short run from the house to the street. We set a "no rush" appointment that was a bit longer than a week in the future. Ed's son Joseph and a crew of two showed up as expected on the day of work before 8 am. Joseph came inside and assessed the job site and explained what to expect. He was extremely professional and courteous throughout the entire process. He even gave me a separate heads up before the water was about to be turned off so we knew - important since it was summer and the entire family was home. He was very kind to my overly-friendly dog and ever mindful to ensure that the dog did not sneak past them out the basement door since the fence gate was open while they were working. The guys dug one 2x4 foot hole near the street, carefully piling all the dirt onto large boards to protect the grass. Inside they, lay down canvas sheets to protect the floors from the back door to where the line came in through the foundation. They did have to cut about a 18" square hole in the drywall to get access to the existing line (which Ed had told me about in advance). The process of pulling the new line went went until they were about 5 feet from the street. The line snagged and they had to dig another small hole close to the other one to run the line the last few feet. Again, they used a board to protect the line. The process of pulling the new line through the existing one was quite fascinating. Joseph and the crew were all very polite and patient with me as I asked a lot of question and took pictures throughout the morning. After the job was done, the crew spent a lot of time working to clean up. They cleaned up inside including wiping off some mud that had gotten on the baseboard where they were working. Outside, they were able to replace the grass neatly over the one hole. They put down seed and straw over the other. They swept the sidewalk too. On the way out the door I asked Joseph to take a quick look at the installation of a large basement sink and offer any advice about whether it might need some alternative plumbing. He happily took a moment to offer some advice. While he definitely stated that updating the installation was work they'd be interested in doing, he thought that some elements that I was questioning looked fine - in other words, even though I thought it might be a bigger job, he gave an honest opinion about what should be done and wasn't trying to sell me extra work that I didn't need. That always inspires confidence. They finished and pulled away in about 5 hours from the time they arrived. Overall, I was very pleased with all aspects of the job and would definitely recommend them to others. It was very nice to deal with a family business. I think there's a lot to be said for the sense of ownership and accountability when multiple generations of the family are all involved and your last name is on the side of the truck.

They are very responsive. They usually come the same day you call. They always check to see if there is anything else you need. They asked if there were anything going from the toilet to the main line to make sure there was nothing else that would burst. I had them replace the line going from the washing machine to the main line as well. They come promptly. They are good about making sure they don't leave a mess. They make sure everything is done right to avoid any problems in the future. The prices are reasonable.
Description of Work: I used Joseph Heil Co. for plumbing. The last time he was here was to fix the plastic water line that goes from the bathroom faucet to the main water line after it had burst. He replaced that and all the other ones that had the possibility of bursting.

I had previously used this plumber a number of years ago to replace a faulty underground plastic pipe from the street to my basement. They did an excellent job using a technique to pull the replacement copper tubing undergound with very little ground surface disruption. I called them a couple of months ago about water hammer problems. They recommended a couple of simple things I could try before they would come out in order to save me money. One was installing water hammer arresters on both the washing machine water inlets. Total cost to me was about $22. Since this did not fix the problem they then came out with a master plumber and his apprentice. I explained when the hammer occurred, what I had done so far, and they made a couple of recommendations. Since this can be a difficult problem to diagnose with different causes, we decided to change out the 29 year old PRV that is just inside the house before the water meter. This fixed the problem. WOO-HOO. They also replaced a water faucet that had started leaking badly with a standard issue one they had in their truck. Cost was $295 for each replacement that took about an hour total. I thought this was a tad above reasonable but I am quite pleased with their excellent service.

Phone call from the tenants: "The toilet flowed back into the house". Phone call with Heil: "You should call Howard County. It might be on their side". Phone call back from Heil: "We should come out. If it isn't on the Howard County side, we'll have work to do". The guy was there in less than an hour (On a Saturday night). When HoCo claimed it wasn't there side, Heil went to work. He cut a hole in the wall, and cleared the drain. He was back out a couple days later to video scope the pipe. A couple days later, the backhoe was in the front yard digging up the pipe. The whole thing went from flood to repaired in less than 10 days.

Sound of water constantly running in basement, but no visible water leaking anywhere. Water service pipe leaking according to county. Located company in Angie's List. Company said they had fixed other units in my development that had the butane pipe leak. County issued a time limit before water shut-off, so imperative it be done asap. Class action monies depleted, so had to pay myself. Homeowners insurance said "not in the house". After shock of cost, contracted with Heil for pulling of new pipe from laundry room to street and connecting with new regulator. Work done cleanly, on-time, and county inspector on site at finish of job reassured me that company reliable. Recommend.

The Heil guys (many family members) came out, identified the problem, tried to do a quick repair, but failing to find the leak, they ran 300 feet of above-ground hose from the street to my house so that I would have water during the repair process. Several days later they came out to replace the polybutylene, which they do by "pulling" the new copper pipe through the old plastic pipe. With this method, they only have to dig small access holes every 50 feet or so, instead of an entire 300 foot trench. The pulling operation was a little tricky. They had a few occasions where the copper pipe broke off from the pulling mechanism, or the "bullet" that splits the plastic broke, or the copper pipe hit some rocks and got dented. In the end, they successfully pulled in new pipe and replaced any damaged sections. When digging the access holes, their backhoe dug up underground wires for my driveway lights, and also broke some underground water pipes that supply my in-ground sprinkler. They fixed the sprinkler pipes, but did not fix the wiring. The contract actually said they didn't have to fix anything, so I was pleased that they volunteered to fix the sprinkler system. Initially, they were going to fix the electrical wires too, but as it turned out, the underground wiring was so confusing (there were several cables, not just one), that they thought it should be handled by a qualified electrician. The original poly was laid just inches away from the sewer pipe, so it made it tricky to excavate with a backhoe, but they did just fine. They did discover a sewer clean-out that was not correctly connected to the sewer, so they fixed that too (for a small charge). Overall, it took several days to complete the repairs. When done, they back-filled all of the holes, covered them with new topsoil, and reseeded all the areas. Now (about 8 weeks later) there is little sign of the repairs, except I have nicer grass in the repaired areas than anywhere else in my yard!
Description of Work: The water pressure in my house dropped significantly. The problem was traced to a broken polybutylene water supply line from the street to my house. Joseph Heil installed temporary water service, then replaced 300 feet of polybutylene water pipe with high-quality copper. They installed a new pressure regulator, repaired a broken sewage cleanout, and repaired some underground lawn sprinkler pipes that got damaged during the poly replacement. All holes were refilled and reseeded with quality grass seed.

My experience dealing with Ed, the girls and the crew was overall excellent. I was rebuilding my home after a fire and needed a plumbing service who could do the job quickly and with little to go by (as in plans). Joseph Heil Co., Inc. filled my needs. I had seen their work in the the past and made a call to explain my situation. Ed came out and gave me an estimate that we figured would need some adjustment along the way but in the end the estimate was right on and the work was as well. Thanks to the crew (installers) for being patient and working with me and the other contractors on the job.

Eddie showed up right on time for the appointment. He was very courteous. He looked at the existing plumbing in the kitchen and gave an estimate for the work. He explained exactly what he would have to do and showed me where the water line would run. When he checked the tub, he said he would try plunging first because that was a lot less expensive than snaking the drain. He made sure I was satisfied with the way the tub was draining before he left. He cleaned up thoroughly. We will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: We had a water line installed in the kitchen for an icemaker. We also had a slow bathtub drain plunged.
