I kind of got stuck with this pool service company, as the house I purchased had a pool installed by Anthony & Sylvan. The previous owner had serviced the pool himself, but I am no chemist and so I wanted a pool maintenance service. I approached Anthony & Sylvan since they'd installed the pool. I have no complaints about the actual pool technicians, who are courteous, prompt and professional. My initial beef with the company was that they charged me the full going rate for my extremely small pool. After researching the costs of other pool service companies, I was able to negotiate a more reasonable rate. However, being new to the area, I paid the much higher rate for a year before finding out that I was being hijacked. My other beef is that they could never get the salt water system, one they themselves had installed, to work properly. It broke down constantly, and then the pool would cloud up and wasn't safe for swimming. When I'd call for a technician, I'd often have to wait until my next weekly maintenance appointment, which left the pool unuseable in the meantime. Then, when the technician would show up and make a repair, the repair wouldn't last. My phone calls and complaints went unanswered until I finally showed up at the showroom and demanded to see the supervisor. From then on, the service improved dramatically. However, I ended up paying for the replacement of a salt water system pool pump and filter, which only lasted a few weeks before breaking down again. Finally, the whole system was switched to chlorine, which isn't as nice on the skin, but it hasn't given me any trouble since being installed. (They did give me a cost reduction on switching over to the new system.) I have no complaints now, but just wish that their original salt water system could have been made to work, and that it hadn't taken them so long to address my complaints.

We had several estimates for removing and replacing coping and water-line tiles. I was actually disapointed that A&S gave me the best price because they had been undependable in the past for pool servicing. I went with them anyway, and was shocked at their honesty, professionalism and promptness. The estimator told me of a 5% discount I didn't know about, then applied an additional 5% dicount I did know about regarding on-line payments, to further reduce the costs. He assessed my needs honestly, telling me that I didn't need half the work others told me about. All estimates and discounts were recorded in their written proposal. The work was scheduled within a week of my accepting the proposal. The job took three days; first to remove the old tile and caulking, then to replace the tile, then to recaulk. Each day their crew arrived at 7:15am, before I had to leave for work, and cleaned up after themselves as though they were never there. That included carying away the old tile and grout, and cleaning up the cement and grout. They didn't leave a crumb behind. The best part - we didn't miss a weekend in the pool.

I don’t know about their quality of work because I didn’t use them. I was very pleased with their responsiveness, their service and how they handled things, their professionalism and the time that they took. Everything was good about them. The price was good and everything else too. I think they were ethical as well. They were very responsive and they went over board. They gave me the addresses of people that I could go and talk to, and see their pools. They went way out of their way to help me. The person’s name was Tom Bowers. He was my sales person and he was the one who really went above and beyond. They couldn’t do it because we were in a contract with another company or else we would have taken them probably. I will use their services again in the future.

This was the worst construction project I have ever been involved with. The company was impossible to work with. The site supervisor left the company a few weeks into the project and was never replaced. The contract called for Schedule 40 PVC, but Anthony & Sylvan substitutes lesser grade flex pipe. This is there standard practice. the shotcrete installers trod the steel rebar into the underbedding leaving the floor without steel reinforcement. The water treatment equipment was improperly installed. The pool was not even dimensioned according to the contract. I ended up suing these guys and had to go through the American Arbitration Association which was another rip-off. I won enough money to cover my legal costs + $100. Avoid Anthony Sylvan completely. I have learned from others that my experience is typical.

The job turned out good. They did keep up their promise, but there were some issues and they had to come back and fix them. I would consider using them again besides evaluating others as well.

Even though I was paying top dollar for the service the customer services reps were rude and inattentive. They gave me poor advice on purchasing a hard cover for the pool. I had the pool cover made, but they didn't tell me that I need to purchase a pump for the cover, which invalidates the warranty. Anthony Sylvan built the pool and they did that well. Their customer service is horrible. Their follow up is awful. The original finish was done in the wrong color (instead of being black, it was blue) and they have since had to refinish it two times. There are things that are still wrong with this pool three years later. They attempt to resolve things and seem as though they will be reasonable, but then they change their mind. This has been a nightmare. Don't ever use them.

They get so busy that in the summer time when all the pools are opening, its hard to get help. You literally have to go there and stand there and literally make a pest of yourself to get help. They serviced our pool and it didn't seem that they did a good job. There was streaking and staining, it wasn't even, and plaster was discolored. They came out and looked at it after and didn't take responsibility for the job that they did. They are good if you are aggressive. I went in there and stood there for probably 30 minutes and when they finally got to help me, he was able to fix it.

They're very courteous. They don't bother us. The job is getting done timely. The staff that sold us the pool were great and handled everything very well.

This truly was the worst experience we have ever been through!

The company replaced the blower, the heater and they completed partial work on the plumbing. Their technicians took 10 trips to complete only partial work. If they arrived when they said they would, they were late. The supervisor didn't return phone calls, the technicians apparently don't talk to each other since each new person had no idea what the last person did. The solar cover which we ordered in Sept. '06, never did arrive (we did get a refund for that); they couldn't get the heater to work until the 5th visit; they couldn't figure out how some of the switches worked; they couldn't figure out how to fix the light, and on and on. I have used dozens of companies (look at my Angie's List submissions)and I am generally very accommodating. HOWEVER, one thing I can't tolerate is bad customer service. I don't blame the technicians; they have to figure things out under deadlines and all equipment doesn't work the same. But supervisors or managers should ALWAYS keep the customer informed.

Poorly. Many construction delays. A light was left uninstalled (with electrical wires hanging underwater) until I made several contacts and threatened to file a complaint. The pool was finally completed the beginning of July 2005. On March 24, 2007, I received a letter (that was sent to my previous address -- not the address where I contracted the work nor where the construction was done!) that notified me that the final inspection was done and it was now my responsibility to do this within the next 30 days! Subsequent contact with them has not resulting in them complying with my requests for them to be at the inspection or even advise what the inspection will entail. My contract calls for them to be my agent re the building permit. I consider them in breach of contract. They have not responded.

THEY DID A VERY GOOD JOB. I AM HAPPY WITH THE FINISHED PRODUCT. I AM A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED BECAUSE I DON'T GET TO ENJOY THE POOL THIS YEAR. THEY TOOK WAY TOO LONG TO FINISH THE JOB. I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE LACK OF COMMUNICATION AND ALL THE DELAYS.

ANTHONY AND SYLVAN POOLS WERE PROMPT EVERY DAY. THEY WERE COURTEOUS AND CLEANED UP THEIR MESS SO WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO. THEY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB ON THE POOL IN A MATTER OF TWO WEEKS WE WERE SWIMMING IN OUR NEW POOL.

THE SERVICE WASN'T REALLY THAT GREAT. WE RAN INTO PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTALLATION, BUT THEY WERE TAKEN CARE OF. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM WITH RESERVATION AND WOULD PROBABLY USE THEM AGAIN.

THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE WITH THIS COMPANY HAS BEEN FAIR. WE HAVE BEEN USING THIS COMPANY WITH OUR POOL NEEDS FOR AT LEAST ELEVEN YEARS. THE POOL WORKERS ARE VERY KIND.

ANTHONY AND SYLVAN POOL COMPANY DID A GREAT JOB PUTTING OUR INGROUND POOL IN. THE SALESPERSON WAS HONEST AND MADE SUGGESTIONS TO US SO WE COULD MAKE SOUND DECISIONS.
