Anthony & Sylvan Pools

They helped me design the pool and the person who helped me design it was very imaginative. Everybody was great. It took them about a month to complete the job. They did a good job and were professional. The pool still looks great.

It was very easy to schedule them to come out. The price was really good and the time of completion of work was good as well. The job took around 8-10 weeks and the crew was very good.

It was fairly easy to schedule them to come out. We were pleased with the ease of communication. They were very thorough, professional, and timely with their work. We were pleased with the work. We did have one issue with one of their contractors, which they tried to get resolved. But overall, the experience was good. We’ve recommended them to other people.

It was easy to schedule service and they stuck to their schedule. They even contacted us to let us know when they were coming. The communication and work was good, and they were responsive. They also took care of any issues that came up. All of the crews were professional. Overall, we were pleased and the pool is awesome.

They seemed to know what they were doing and the pool is still doing fine. The crew was very knowledgeable, worked well together, and did a good job. They even gave me the name of another company who could manage the pool for us. There was one snafu because they gave me a broken filter. It took them a little while, but they fixed it.

Most of it was great; the only thing that was poor was that there was a failure with the electrical company. I had to contact Anthony and sylvan and they had to contact the contractor. There was also back and forth with the city so it took a while to get corrected. Overall, I’m happy with the work.

Pool was built by contactor. There were some bumps along the way that were corrected. Pool was completed to our satisfaction.

Arrived on time, three man crew, worked fast, got everything done in less than two hours. Backwash. added chemicals (not included in price - we provided most of our own). Did not include unfolding cover (we took care of that ourselves).

It is still an ongoing work but it is a mixed feeling. There were a lot of problems communicating.

The subcontractors were top of the line. The project manager was let go by the company toward the end of the job so that caused some trouble in knowing who to go to for questions and answers. The salesman was knowledgeable and had worked in many positions in the pool industry so this was a big plus. He was extremely easy to work with. There were no hidden costs, everything was upfront.

I thought they were fine. They ended up in the top three. I can say their salesman was very knowledgeable and it was in higher pressure situation which is nice. We were still actually undecided. I would definitely consider using them.

Few mishaps but worked with us to resolve. Overall good experience and would recommend.

We decided to go with someone else. The experience was okay, the guy seemed knowledgeable, I wasn't impressed with the presentation itself, because they didn't have booklets or pictures or son. But it was okay. They provided the quote during the appointment, the good thing was that they followed up, a few times afterwards.

Everything is fine and the pool is working great! They did a very good job and I am happy with it. Their service was wonderful! They were courteous and clean. Their quality and responsiveness was outstanding!

It was the most terrible experience I have ever had with a contractor. The product itself turned out very good. Their biggest problem is communication and they also stretch the truth and lie. The only reason the product is good is because they subcontract it all out. Anthony & Sylvan will not come out to your house unless you have agreed to a minimum of $500 of work and have placed your credit card on file. Once the warranty went out, I won’t let them on the property anymore. There were a couple things that had to be replaced during the warranty period and they wanted to repair it instead. They finally replaced it after my threatening. They have tried to call me since and I have blocked their number from calling me. There is no chance in the world that I would hire them again.

We were pleased with the service. They had a better price than other competitors we checked with. Although, there were some aspects that we were not too pleased with. Communication was relatively good as well as timeliness. The workmanship seemed to be pretty good. The only negative I would say is that their follow up after completion for any issues was not very good. The concrete patio around the pool lost its color within a couple months. Any attempts to reach out to the subcontractor and to Anthony & Sylvan were disregarded. We were displeased with their willingness to stand behind the work. However, we were pleased with all other aspects of the work and considered it to go very smoothly.

The initial contact person, was a salesman, who took the time to discuss options and actually layout several design options in our yard. He was the only salesman to do this (we talked to several companies) and it made our decision much easier because we could actually visualize the pool - to some extent. The project manager, although difficult to contact at times, was very mindful of safety issues and made sure that our pool was built to safety specifications. Ex. the contractor who was used to excavate our yard, ran into some bedrock and stopped short of the proper depth for our deep end. Our A&S project manager stopped by several times to check the depth and he stopped the work until he was able to get this contractor back and he made sure that the contractor dug down to the proper depth to allow for safe diving. Although our project manager was very busy with several jobs, and not always easy to reach - we felt that he did his best to ensure that our pool was built to safety specifications. We are very grateful for his professionalism.

We have been in our home for just over one month now and I want everyone to know that I have been nothing but happy with Anthony & Sylvan thus far. Not only is the pool beautiful and fun but their customer service has been superb. Let me be more specific: I elected to have a peanut shaped pool and in-ground hot tub installed. The pool is about 25,000 gallons and finished with a cobalt blue plaster. It has slate stone coping and an inexpensive paver deck surrounding. The design session with A&S was quick and easy. They then worked with the builder to ensure the pool was completed on schedule - it was. After we "signed" on the pool, I did some more research on pool equipment and options, etc and sent a very long email to the A&S design person. He called me back right away and answered every detail point by point. We even made a few changes based on the discussion - no extra charges or hassles. Once the pool was filled with water, the A&S pool technician came out to teach me the basics for operating and maintaining the pool. He was outstanding. He gave me his cell phone number and asked me to call him directly if I ever had any trouble. I took him up on that offer when I couldn't remember some parts of his instruction. He graciously went over it again - no waiting and no layers of bureaucracy to get a simple answer. 30-days later another technician came out as scheduled to install the salt in the water and instruct me on the use of the salt chlorination system. He was extremely knowledgeable and got me up to speed the first time. Thus far, I've had three problems with the pool. The first was the heater for the hot tub. It worked fine in "manual" mode, but only heated the water to 80 degrees when in the "remote control" mode. They tried to help me with this over the phone but it proved unsuccessful. Luckily, the technician for the salt was coming in a few days and he made an adjustment to the remote control software and got me up and working painlessly. The other two were pretty minor issues, but since one of the A&S executives reached out to me via email and asked if I had any concerns at all, I went ahead and forwarded these - I was mainly curious how he would respond. I was impressed. The two issues were 1) the water feature we have had a slight 'split' in the waterfall and 2) the cobalt blue plaster was a little 'splotchy' in areas. He responded immediately and scheduled one of the senior technicians come out and take a look. This technician fixed my water feature in 3-seconds and told me that A&S allows for an "Acid Bath" treatment any time during the first three years of pool ownership. He suggested I schedule this just prior to the spring 2014 startup. He said it is done without draining the pool and will smooth out the colors as well as bring out the blue even more. One additional note - I've enjoyed visiting our local A&S pool supply store. The manager there is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. He has not tried to sell me chemicals I don't need. That's it. No cracks. No leaks. No products that don't work. When I call the local A&S office I speak to a real person right away. I call technicians directly if I have questions. My pool is beautiful and I've been told I can expect 25-years of solid performance before I need to worry about re-plastering. I couldn't be happier with our builder's decision to use A&S.

The sales process was excellent; then the actual construction part began. Quickly the pool was excavated and the guniteapplied. Soon thereafter the tiles, coping plumbing and electric was completed. Then they disappeared for 4 weeks. Despite numerous calls to our "construction" manager, the next steps were not scheduled. After further complaints, calls, and actually cancelling the decking in order to get the pool completed, the next step was scheduled. This step was the grading, during which they showed up 4 hours late and stayed for 1 1/2 hours, quitting before completion. Despite promises to return to complete it, they have not shown up. It has now been 10 weeks and I still do not have a completed pool, just a totally destroyed back yard. Upon the sales process, I was assured that they would be very careful with my yard, but they came in and dumped a large load of gravel on the unaffected part of my yard rather than on the driveway. When they graded, they dug further into the yard to get enough dirt for the fill. Since I have to pay to have all this sodded, I estimate they have cost me another $2000 due to this lack of concern. As I said, I cancelled the decking and am going with another company. In summary, a process that easily could have been completed in 3-4 weeks has now taken 10 and is not finished, even though we simplified it. We have lost about a week of time from work and other activities due to their lack of respect for our time and requests. I would never use this company or recommend it to anyone else. Update 1/19/16: Since the pool has been completed, our family has enjoyed it. Our complaints were entirely about construction of the pool. Since then, their customer service has been excellent.

We have a very sloped yard and it took some time to come up with a plan for installation in the area we wanted. Our sales rep worked hard to come up with a plan that met as many of my wants as possible within our budget. Once the contract was signed and all decisions final we never saw or heard from him again. It took a little longer for them to get started than the indicated, but the contractors worked well. The biggest problem was not having a project manager. The person who was supposed to be left the company and they failed to replace him instill about halfway through the project after we brought it up. They always called the night before to let us know who would be out the next day doing what. Most of the contractors were great. We did have a couple that we had language barrier problems with. The problems started when we noticed that the original estimate and contract were different. The estimate included an automatic pool cleaner that was left of the contract. After many complaints they did finally provide a cleaner. The stone and tile was not done according to the plans but because the workmanship was good they refused to fix it. After numerous complaints they still have refused to fix this. We paid extra for some fun bubblers that still do not work correctly even though they have been out several times working with them and we were informed this morning that the blower is broken. It is under warranty so will be fixed. They did replace the net pole that broke after a month or so.

My experience was great initially finding out how much they charge for the year. Their rate included everything, such as opening, closing, all chemicals, and regular maintenance. The regular person that came out was sick one day so they sent someone else. The new tech ended up flooding our entire yard with half the pool water. He consistently left things out and didn't replace them where they belong. They rate the annual service by number of visits, not the season. So, they come out 26 times and every visit thereafter they would charge an additional $100 for the visit. Even if they skipped the cleaning because they were on vacation or something, they wouldn't add another week to the contract.

The project went as scheduled with the installation. Best I can tell there wasn't much over site of the work. All the work was performed by subcontractors. Normally this would not be a problem if over site and quality checks were performed. The overall appearance was great when the pool renovation was finished. What happened within four years, was a huge disappointment! When I had the pool checked and drained by a professional to remove scale build up, a major defect was discovered. The pool plaster in many locations was delaminated from the old plaster and the plaster was cracking. When the plaster was tapped, there was hollow sounds that indicated that the plaster resurfacing had not bonded to the old plaster. I contacted Anthony Sylvan that day to come out and look at the problem and their response was it was out of warranty and not covered. I explained that the issue was defective work, not a warranty issue and I kept getting the "it is out of warranty" response. I indicated that they should at least come out and look at the problem to understand that their contractor installed the quartz finish incorrectly and the response was, we can come out in about a week, but the work is out of warranty. I guess the thought of Anthony Sylvan is that if you repeat "it is out of warranty" enough times the customer will get frustrated and give up, even when the problem is the result of defective work. I have yet to be contacted by the pool renovation expert that was going to come and see the defective work installed by Anthony Sylvan. When I hired another contractor to fix the problem, they discovered when the loose, cracked and unbonded plaster was removed that no bond coat was ever applied. Based on this fact, it is apparent that due to the lack of over site by Anthony Sylvan, they did not see that their subcontractor took short cuts by not properly preparing the old surface to receive the new surface, which resulted in defective work that failed just 4 years into the 10-15 year life that was promised for this product. I would not recommend that anyone use Anthony Sylvan for pool work for the following reasons: 1. Anthony Sylvan does not stand behind their work product. 2. Anthony Sylvan does not supervise and perform quality control checks on their subcontractors. 3. Anthony Sylvan is non-responsive to customer complaints. 4. Anthony Sylvan hides behind their contract rather than dealing with issues with their product. 5. Anthony Sylvan is more interested in selling the product rather than ensuring that it is installed properly and that the customer's concerns are addressed. I have pictures of the unbonded resurfacing installed by Anthony Sylvan.

Anthony and Sylvan did a great job up until they received the final payment. Once they got it, they were no where to be found. I have a laundry list of items that are still outstanding (stained coping, missing coping, broken spa jet, leaking cleaner pump, etc...). They acknowledge them, they tell me they are coming out to fix them, and then when the day comes nobody shows up and I don't even get a courtesy phone call to let me know they changed their minds. This has happened twice now. However, before the construction payments were fully paid off, they were incredibly responsive. Overall, the quality of the work is average but you get what you pay for and A&S has very competitive prices so I wasn't expecting perfecting and didn't even get close to getting. However, when you factor in the other elements, they are lousy. I don't even feel like I'm being treated like a human being.

Horrible experience with Anthony Sylvan - they gave me a good price and seemed to be a reputable company, but they botched the resurfacing job I hired them to do on my pool. The pool is now scaly on one side and the surface is starting to pit and crack elsewhere. I've been in contact with their managers for more than a year trying to get someone to come out and simply assess the mess they made - I've gotten the run-around so many times I'm on the verge of taking them to small claims court. DO NOT WORK WITH THESE PEOPLE! There's a reason for why they are cheaper than the competition!!!
