Kevin was very professional, experienced and confident. He listened to our general proposal and offered very constructive opinions and advice which we followed. His team were quite professional and highly competent. They arrived early and on time every day. They worked hard and were quite meticulous. The work area was always left clean and organized. Their interactions with me and my wife were always professional. The project was a big one. It took several weeks to complete. We got to know them pretty well. We trusted them and felt quite comfortable with them all over the house. I had only one small concern. I mention it only to emphasize how quickly it was addressed and completely resolved. In the final analysis, This was a big project and was expensive but it was worth it because we love all the repairs and improvements. Several were great improvements like the balcony and French doors in the breakfast room looking out on the garden. We wish we had only done them sooner. Kevin Taylor and hid crew, Craig and Doug, were excellent. I am comfortable recommending them to anyone and would use them again without question. Brian and Maria
Description of Work: There were three double doors and two regular doors that needed to be replaced. In addition, there was a major repair to an existing balcony as well as three windows that need repair and replacement. Finally, the siding an two sides of the upper end of the house was damaged and need to be replaced. These projects had accumulated over several years of neglect.. We finally decided to repair them all. So it turned into a large project with many smaller parts.

Timely, efficient and high quality work. We have already hired Kevin to do more work.
Description of Work: A three story home addition, kitchen renovation and bathroom
My experience with Taylor made was better than I could have imagined. They are pricier than many other options out there, but you get what you pay for, and much more. Description of the project: Drywall and paint throughout the house, plus an assortment of additional projects throughout the house, like adding light fixtures, putting in carpet, redoing hardwood floors etc. The price tag from Taylor Made almost caused me to look for another options, but I stuck with Taylor made, and I’m glad I did. Some highlights: Our project was a big one. As things came up, Taylor Made addressed them, or made recommendations on how best to address them. We got more value for the price tag that I thought I would get when the project began. Communication is my pet peeve with contractors, and Taylor Made used an assortment of communication methods to ensure that I was up to date on what was going on, and to allow me to chime in when I needed to. We used phone calls, emails, text messages, and even a software tool called Co-Construct ([*** Link removed ***] The software was especially helpful. Taylor Made put picture and updates on the website almost daily. There is also a messaging section that allowed everyone working on the project to see the communication all in one place. And there is a mobile app which is always useful. The schedule, which we all know changes all the time with large projects like this, was either followed as originally scheduled, or adjusted as I requested. The incredible communication allowed for Taylor Made to even get ahead of schedule at times, but only with my approval. The project finished on the date it was supposed to, even though I asked Taylor Made to not work for a few days for my own convenience. This was an unplanned change request I made, and Taylor Made was able to accommodate me on the fly. The crew was great. They were extremely respectful of the fact that my family and I were in the house during all of this work. And in terms of cleanliness, the project ran almost two months, and we had one day where the house was not left extremely clean. I cannot ask for much more than that. Kevin Taylor, who came in and sold us the job, was always available to help at any point. He did not “disappear” as many general contractors tend to do during projects. And most importantly, the project was completed with better quality than any home improvement/repair project I have ever had done. And it’s not even close. One lowlight, which isn’t even that low: The crew accidentally spilled some paint on my driveway. But, instead of hoping I wouldn’t notice or dodging it, they called me to tell me about it before I could even notice it. They told me immediately that they would address it by power washing it. Then power washing did not work, so they added some asphalt over the top and it looks great. So even when the crew made a mistake (which will happen at some point over a couple of months), they not only fixed it, but they were proactive about it. Again, I cannot ask for much more than that. Overall, if you want quality work, Taylor Made should be your choice. I know this sounds like a commercial, but I can tell you real life (scary) stories of how awful previous experiences have been for me with these types of projects, which is why I’m so grateful I found a quality and trustworthy contractor like Taylor Made.

We are over the top happy with our new room. Kevin, Craig and Doug made the construction experience fun! Converting an attached garage to a family room and making it blend in with the rest of the house, it looks like it has always been here and not a afterthought. The craftsmanship and professionalism was top notch. We had specific needs for the room and they designed it to achieve those needs. Even the shelving in the closets is custom designed to what we are going to put in them, so I am showing them off to everyone too! We couldn't be happier with the results.

It started to go poorly shortly after I accepted the contract and gave them the the first payment, it took them over 3 months to come out and replace the roof. After the roof was finished I got charged an extra $1500 for additional repairs that was a surprise to me (there wasn't anything in the contract saying that the price could change). The windows finally came a month after the roof and they were a disappointment too, they were a cheaper quality and lower end window then what was previously agreed upon. It is now 5 years later and I am now having problems with my roof. In the last two years alone, I've had to replace shingles that have blown off the roof two different times! Both times they said it wasn't under warranty because the winds were to high. The most recent time winds didn't go above 45mph and the shingles are rated to withstand at lest 60mph. They did replace a storm door for me no charge, but I feel this did little to alleviate the systemic issues throughout the whole process for me. Especially since these are improvements that didn't think I would have to replace any time soon, and now I'm wondering if I might have too. I don't know if there was any malice on there part in anything I've stated above, but I feel like I had been taken advantage of.

We're so sorry you're having an issue with these high winds. We do our best to help at every turn, and we sent a crew to service your home within 24 hours- the very next day after you alerted us. We feel we have been extremely responsive, very professional, and very punctual on all our communications and dealings, and I am sorry you feel you have had a poor experience with us. As we explained, the manufacturers' warranty should cover the roof issue, but you'd have to contact them. We will always be here to help keep your home safe and sound, and will respond immediately with our services, as you have experienced.

We were in a pretty serious jam when my wife and I called Kevin. I had started doing a remodel of a bathroom in our house when the City came down and started threatening us with fines for not pulling permits. Taylor Made came in, sorted out the permitting issues, and completed the job. Everything looks great and was built well.
The project went very well even from the start. Our basement flooded so we had water damage to our floors, baseboards, drywall and furniture. I called Kevin from Taylor Made because we had hired them in the past. He had his men out to my house within 24 hours. They removed the flooring, baseboards and part of the drywall. Kevin helped us with choosing new vinyl plank flooring that was waterproof. We were able to put the basement back to an even better version of what we had before. They men were prompt, very considerate and worked hard. I’m truly grateful that they helped me out on such short notice. I know I made the right decision to use Taylor Made and would certainly recommend others to call them if they want a reliable company.

My review of Taylor construction Jarrettsville, MD: The good: Had a very pleasant conversation with the lady that took my call about work they did for a neighbor when I called to request an estimate. Turns out it is Kevin Taylor’s wife and she was very nice. The bad: Kevin Taylor, many red flags and no clue how to treat a prospective customer The ugly: Kevin returned my call a couple of days after I spoke with his wife. He was on speaker during the entire conversation and my wife listened in. My wife is the most honest, fair minded person I know and she couldn’t believe what she heard. In fact, she thought I was more than patient with him before I finally hung up. The conversation: I explained I had a leak and some possible structural damage that needed repair. I verbally explained the issue and asked if he could come over and take a look and provide estimate (they are only a few miles from my home so didn’t think it was a big deal). I was perfectly willing to pay him for an estimate, but we never got to that point. I also explained to him that depending on the estimate I may get the insurance company involved. He wanted me to send some pictures so he could get an idea of “what he was getting involved in” (red flag). I asked him to hold as I thought I still had pictures on my iPhone. Turns out I deleted them. I again asked him to come out for an estimate with no reply. He insisted that I take some pictures and send them to him through email. I explained to him that to take pictures I would have to uncover the temporary flashing put in place to keep water from leaking into the foyer area. I again ask him to come out and provide an estimate with no reply. He then stated “well if I come out are you ready to pay me 12,000 to start work right away?” I ask him how in the world he came up with 12K without looking at it (big red flag). The condescending tone implied that he didn’t we had the money was both my wife’s and my impression. Either way this tweaked me big time. I said look, you either want to come out and provide an estimate or you don’t, just say yes or no. Still no immediate reply, and then I said just forget it as my anger peaked and hung up on him. I then replied to his email and told him exactly what I thought of him for treating a potential client like he did. More email exchanges as he had to have the last work in some sick way. He is a very ugly, arrogant, condescending person which I would not recommend to anyone. Again, my wife heard the whole phone conversation and I have the email transcripts for anyone that would like to read them.

We're so sorry this potential customer was so upset, and even sent an email apologizing for the abrupt nature of the end of our call. We had a tree hit our home in the March '18 wind storm. Kevin was instrumental when it came to dealing with our horrible insurance co (Nationwide is NOT on your side!). After three months of him tirelessly working towards a reasonable resolution with the insurance, he was finally able to begin work. Three weeks later my home is back to normal and we couldn't be happier. The workmanship is superb, the guys who did the work (Andy & Doug) were professional, kind and very talented. I highly recommend Taylor Made Contracting and I hope to use them again in the future (hopefully without a tree falling on our house!).
Description of Work: Home repairs indoor and outdoor, roofing, drywall, etc after a tree hit our home.
Working with Kevin and his crew from Taylor Made, to remodel my 1959 home, was a wonderful experience. The first thing I noticed about Kevin, and the reason I selected Taylor Made, was his ability to see and hear the vision I had for the remodel. In addition to that, he continually offered suggestions that would help make my vision a reality. Kevin continually kept me up to date on the remodel's progress and always had quick and thorough answers to my questions, extremely valuable qualities for this project, since the remodel was done long distance. When I had the opportunity to stop by and see the remodel in its early stages, I was extremely impressed by the quality of the work. It was easy to tell by the initial demo and framing that the work was top notch, with excellent craftsmanship. When I had to leave, I knew my remodel was in excellent hands, and that proved to be the case throughout the project. There were several pieces of this project that might have been challenging, but in every case Kevin was able to make my vision a reality. By the time the remodel was done, I could truthfully say that Kevin and his crew had made my entire vision a reality. I was thrilled with my new home and knew that the job was well done and to the highest standards. Thank you Kevin and crew!!
TAYLOR MADE IS THE BEST!!!! Our insurance company greatly underestimated the amount needed to do repairs to the side of our house after a lightning strike and fire. Kevin from Taylor Made actually helped greatly in negotiating with them, and they came through with almost three times the amount they originally allowed. Not only did he make sure the budget would cover the needed work, his staff member Chris did a BEAUTIFUL, METICULOUS JOB of every single part of the work, from demolition to painting. It's just perfect. Not only that, but the repair took place on a difficult week when a family member was in the hospital and I had to be away as caregiver for an elderly in-law. Chris went over and above by keeping an eye on my dogs and letting them in and out on the days I was gone. They loved him and it helped so much with the stress of that week. I would ABSOLUTELY work with them again!!!

After a bad windstorm, we experienced some damage to our the exterior of our home. We called Kevin at Taylor Made to repair the outside of our windows, some siding and a few roofing shingles. They did a great job of matching the existing colors. Chris and Doug were very polite, friendly, arrived on time and cleaned up daily. They were very responsive to my inquiry - however - when I got him on the phone he was very condescending and rude. He talked to me as if I had no idea what on earth a metal roof would possibly cost. He would not even come out to look at the scope of work because I was getting other estimates (as a reasonable homeowner would do) and could not provide an immediate deposit. I was annoyed and even if I were ready to move forward I would NOT be doing it with this company - based solely on this condescending attitude.

Smoothly! Kevin (owner) has a small but conscientious crew. Their work is a thousand times better than the original home builder did, and I've received several comments from my neighbors about all the work done here, how nice it looks, etc, etc. I've finally got the house that looks like what I wanted in 1995! I'm extremely happy with the exterior work, especially the new windows (which I can open ..... unlike the original ones that many of which we could not open at all) and the windows are coated on each interior panel -- great for energy savings and prevents sun fading the furniture. I can now just sit back and enjoy my re-built home, thanks to Kevin's crew :)
Description of Work: I just completed having the 'envelope' of my home done. This was done in sections, with the last 3/4 of the home completed in Sept 2017. Everything was re-done: - gutters - downspouts - new windows (not 'replacement' windows) with the proper waterproofing around the framing - new roof over dining room bay window (replaced the metal roof the original builder put there and changed it to a wood roof with CertainTeed roofing that matches my roof on the rest of the house that I had replaced about 5 years ago) - new CertainTeed siding -- including using scalloped siding in all the triangle shaped gables - added insulation on all exterior walls prior to putting up new vinyl siding - replaced dormers over garage (because of rotted wood which happened because the original home builder did not seal things correctly; house is only 22-yers old) - and all trim work was done (when the trim was removed from the house, it was sanded and repainted to match existing vinyl color. The, all the dentil molding was cleaned, caulked and painted. Lot of work just on the trim!)

I sent Taylor Made an email via Angies List and was called back by the owner, Kevin within a couple of hours. I received an estimate the next day and the work started within two days (July 4th Weekend). Their work is of high quality and they even fixed other siding issues that they discovered at no extra cost. Will definitely hire again!!

We have been customers of Taylor Made Custom Contracting for many years and continue to use them because I can count on them to give me a positive experience and thorough job time and time again. They installed a custom designed cabinet in my kitchen/ breakfast area. I worked with Kevin to design a piece that would give me the storage I wanted and would coordinate with the existing overall style. It was comforting to have had the same installers again. Their employees seem to stay with them. The design, lighting element, woodworking and color choice was exceptional. Kevin is a perfectionist so I know that whatever Taylor Made does for me, it will go well.

This was one of the most dishonest and aggressive vendors I have ever dealt with across 5 continents. Kevin - the owner or head henchman - responded to my wife's initial inquiry after 2 weeks and would not answer basic questions such as "does your firm operate in the city" or "are you available to take a look at..." Basically this guy didn't want the work. After initial conversations with great difficulty he asked my wife to send him pictures of the problem. Try that when you are going to your doctor or mechanic the next time...send them a picture to get the show started. He didn't want to come out to take a look at the problem but he did have the foresight to reach into his magic hat to come up with a proposed bill for his services of $3300. Not $3350 or $2999 but $3300. Now the next logical item that someone might want to know is uh what are you going to be doing for this $3300 or how did you come up with this magical number without any diagnosis. This is when things got interesting...Kevin got defensive very quickly saying he couldn't tell us what he would fix without looking at it... and that perhaps we were not a good fit for his services. I tried to get a word in between his howls of insistence and protests that all I wanted to know was HOW he came up with a magical number without a site visit. He got more irritated because "he didn't know how many 30 cent screws he might need" or what he had to do. Basically here's a bill for something we might or might not do. I looked through the company profile and read other reviews. It turns out there are actually quite a number of other customers that have been treated this aggressively. Kevin loves to quote through the stats of the number of great reviews he has received. The unfortunate thing about statistics is that they do not tell you about the total number of people that were in the equation. I'm very glad that it didn't work out for us with this TOTAL nightmare of a company. And since he loves to read and respond to reviews here's something to chew on...the restoration experts that we did award this work did a superb job very efficiently and politely. We have also awarded the firm the next several repair and update works from us as well as many in our neighborhood. Their total awards are well north of six figures from one end of our block alone. So yeah....they certainly are a much better and a more professional fit for us.

We're so sorry this member is not happy with us. When Mrs. [Member Name Removed] called, I spoke with her, and she sent photos of the stairs. We quickly determined that they were indeed a safety issue, and offerred to get there to help on the first upcoming Saturday. Mrs. [Member Name Removed] seemed grateful, and happy to plan the repairs. When Mr. [Member Name Removed] called, he demanded to know what exactly we were going to do, and wanted a materials and labor breakdown of my estimate. I explained that until we expose the issue, and attempt some remedies, we wouldn't have an exact plan. I did reassure him that we would take care of the problem and make the stairs safe for his family. Mr. [Member Name Removed] got very upset since I didn't have the specific answer he was looking for. Ultimately, we were not a good fit for this client. Although we would have been happy to help, some projects are better left for another provider.

We hired Taylor Made in 2014 to remodel my kitchen. We chose them because they were the only company who we investigated, who listened to what we wanted and made intelligent creative suggestions. The kitchen plan that Kevin designed, was beautiful. The price was not inexpensive, but it was more than fair for the immaculate finished product that we received. It was not mediocre work by any means. Craig, the project manager was meticulous and a perfectionist. The crew cleaned up everyday and was respectful of my house and even my dog. We recently hired them again to create a new pantry area adjacent to the kitchen. We added cabinetry, counters and shelving in order to store items that we wanted accessible, but did not need every day. Although this was a significantly smaller project, we were just as pleased as last time. The design was laid out so that we could see exactly what we were getting and how it would look. We felt the agreement and paperwork was complete and easy to understand. The renovation process was smooth and the finished product was once again functional and flawless. This is an honest group of people who want to keep their customers coming back.

We're so sorry this member is upset- we did try to contact him repeatedly to clear up any miscommunications, but did not receive a reply. When we made our agreement to perform the project, the husband informed us that his wife would make all the selections for the project, but she was unavailable that day. He stated that she works from home, and she would be available on a daily basis for any input needed. As our start date drew near, we prepared a complete list of all the selections that would be needed, along with suggested products that we thought would fit the style of their home. The wife was very pleased with all the suggestions we made, so we ordered the products, and arranged the start date. When we started the demo, we quickly discovered termite damage. We immediately alerted the clients, prepared a change order to eliminate and repair the affected materials, contacted and scheduled a pest control company to treat the areas, supervised the entire process, and got back to work without any lapse. We ultimately completed the project ahead of schedule, and the wife loved the project, our crew, the process, and the outcome. We never did see the husband again onsite, so we were very surprised to receive this review. We did communicate with the husband regularly through email throughout the project, and we thought we accommodated his every request, and went above and beyond, to make this a great experience with our company. We regret this member is not thrilled with our company, but please scroll down to see the review posted by his wife with an A rating. She has already referred us to one of her friends and neighbors! We will continue to make every effort to make our members happy, and we hope this member reconsiders his review.
