Description of Work: Repair gas furnance and replace heat pump system. GLC, Shawn Colborn came to my house when I had no heat. My heat pump I knew was on its last leg and needed replacing but the furace break down was a surprise. I haD no heat when I called GLC and Shawn came out that same day. The motor was gone and he went and got one and installed it that day so I would have some heat in the house. On the heat pump I got a quote but still needed to do my due diligence on what company and cost for replacing. After 3 other companies came out and gave me a quote I just felt comfortable with Shawe thus I gave the job to him. Being a small company I felt he was able to give me the better deal and we'll his quote was at least 2 thousand less than the others. I would highly recommend GLC to anyone needing repairs or replacement of their HVAC systems.

+ -1 moreThis was actually my first service through Angie's list. The technician seemed uninterested and then told me that Angie gets her money so he is just doing this to help promote his business. He said I need an expensive repair and then told me he has to hurry up to leave to attend his son's little league game. I got a second opinion from someone else and I will not do business with them.

+ -1 moreThey were a good company. We didn't have any problems. They worked with me...even tried to get me to go with a lower priced brand because it would have saved me money. They were very courteous. They didn't make a mess. They made sure that I wasn't buying something I didn't need and they were in and out in 36 hours. It was actually snowing when they put the system in. They even followed up a week later to make sure my unit was running efficiently. I was very pleased with the service.

When they completed the check up, they found that there was a repair that needed to be made. However, they were expensive and we chose someone else for the work. They did clean up after completing the work through the deal.

+ -1 moreit went OK. I had purchased two services directly from Angie's List (general check ups) since I had two heat pump units. I had to call the company since they never coordinated my appointments through Angie's list like other companies have done. After I contacted them I was told that I should not have purchased the packages on Angie's List because Angie's List does not pay the company...he specifically said he never sees any of the money that Angie's List gets so he would have to charge extra. Since he did some extra work (added Freon) I didn't get too upset. But then I was informed by Angie's List that they do in fact pay businesses when customers purchase service packages through the website...so someone is lying.
Description of Work: General check up of two heat pump units. Added freon to one of the units.

+ -1 moreShawn responded in a prompt manner and arrived when he said he would despite his busy schedule for the day. He quickly diagnosed and repaired the problem. He could have price gouged us being a weekend, emergency and freezing temperatures but he didn't. A more well-known local provider would have charged three times the amount. We will surely consider Shawn when it's time to replace our system.

+ -1 moreGreat! He ordered the part and came and replaced it two days later. Sounds much better and we can rest much easier with the very cold weather being predicted that our heat will continue to work. He showed us the part and where it was starting to crack after he replaced.
Description of Work: Our gas furnace had started making a loud noise. Shawn came out and checked it out and explained that it was a part that was beginning to wear. It might make it through the winter or it could stop the next day. We opted to go ahead and have him order the part and replace it.

My air conditioner wasn't working, he replaced the capacitor on the furnace and as a result...I had cool air-once again! He was honest about how long the capacitor may last and what may need to be done if it goes out again! Also, I have never had this part happen to me before...he refused to accept payment for the capacitor! Shawn, is a top notch service provider! I definitely would utilize his services again, and I would recommend him to any friend of mine! This was an Awesome experience! : ) Thanks again, Shawn!

Description of Work: My furnace stopped working last weekend. I called GCL Inc. Heating and Air conditioning, after reading their great reviews on Angie's list.. I talked to Shawn, who agreed to come to my place, since I lived nearby, even though he was planning on taking the day off to take some of his crew to the Washington Nationals opening day game. He said they had been working hard, for many hours in the weeks leading up to MLB opening day. The problem ended up being a simple issue related to the power supply, which I had overlooked. When I asked what I owed him, Shawn just asked for me to write a good review here. I also offered him some money to help him and his crew enjoy the game. I have dealt with other HVAC contractors in the area, I this was by far the best experience I have had. Shawn was able to promptly get my furnace working again, and the price was unbeatable. I would definitely recommend GCL Incorporated Heating and Air conditioning.

+ -1 moreSean did an excellent job. His price was $3500 less than Sears' estimate and he provided a unit with a SER rating of 15 as opposed to the SER 13 that Sears was going to provide. He patiently explained the pros/cons of each unit brand (Trane, Rheem, York, etc) enabling us to easily decide on the best unit for our need. There is no question that we would use GCL again. Honest, fair and professional; a superb experience all around.

Description of Work: Shawn Colborn returned to check the heat pump that he installed for us on our rental last fall. He stands behind his work. He was very thorough and I was not surprised that everything is still working efficiently. There was no cost for this maintenance check as it was part of the contract that Shawn will check his new installs twice during the first year. Shawn also did some work for my parents who live close by. Last fall, he repaired one of their heat pumps after explaining to them that there was only a 50-50 chance that the repair would work. My father was willing to take the chance, and paid Shawn $850 (someone else had quoted him $1300 for the same work). My father is very pleased as his heat pumps are both still going strong even now with the summer temps of 100 degrees.

+ -1 moreWhat I said above pretty much covers it. The only thing I can add is that it was relatively easy to work with him even from a distance as we live in Arizona. I can't say that about every contractor we have been in contact from this distance. Shawn also did some repair work on my parents' Carrier heatpump (also there in Waldorf), and my father is very pleased with both the quality of the work and the price.
Description of Work: Shawn Colborn installed a new Payne high-efficiency heat pump in our former home (turned rental) in Waldorf, Maryland. He gave us a very competitive price and provides a one-year warranty on labor for the first year, and Carrier (Payne) provides a 10-year warranty on all parts. My only complaint was that I had to hound him about submitting the SMECO rebate application. However, he did send me the Payne warranty info with plenty of time to register the unit. FTR, the house was built in 1997, not 2005, and we replaced the Trane heat pump that was installed in 2001 when we bought the house.
