I received invaluable advice regarding color choices and type of fabric to select. Excellent referral for the making the drapes and installing. Many other services done with this designer. She assisted me in moving into a new townhouse. Helped me with furniture arrangement and very mindful of cost and used as much of my original furnishings as feasible . She was so pleasant to work with, honest and had so many good ideas. Highly recommend this person

We started in the living room and decided to give this room a personal feel. I have a passion for history, the American Civil War in particular. And I had a few signed and numbered limited edition art prints that were stored away in a closet. Studio Starrs asked to look at the prints, and went through the stack and selected several prints that would form the focal point of the room. They worked with me to select the frames and matting.... providing me with discount coupons that eased the price of the framing. We also selected a reasonably priced rug to cover the hardwood floors, and from that we picked out a color palette for the walls that would pull out colors of the rug. Studio Starrs then provided renderings of the rooms showing color and furniture options. This really helped me visualize what the rooms would look like when we were done. Studio Starrs then worked with me to find a reasonably priced and good quality painting contractor to paint tall three rooms and both stairwells. We decided to make the living room more of a formal room. With four fabric covered arm chairs surrounding a leather ottoman in the middle. Designed for conversation and entertaining. We added a cabinet against the wall that sits under the art prints. The prints were mounted in a symmetrical manner with really looks great. But what I really like about the way that Studio Starrs is the additional details that I would never think to add to the room. Combination of vases, dried flowers, etc. that really make the room pop. Wonderful. The other major effort was the sunroom, on the other side of the kitchen from the living room. Studio Starrs made this an informal room, using existing an existing rug to pull out colors for the drapes and furniture. We selected a sectional at the local Bassett furniture store. Studio Starrs worked with me to select quality furniture while not breaking the bank along the way. We added a three piece bookshelf on one wall. Again, it is in the details where Studio Starrs really shines. The final touch was a really interesting design element, we hung an old stained glass window in an opening between the sunroom and kitchen. It really pulls everything together. And I cannot tell you how many compliments I receive from people who visit my home after the transformation. It was a lot of work and decisions but it was fun too. And I hope I didn't reveal too many secrets here. But suffice to say I enjoyed the experience and would highly recommend Studio Starrs for your interior decorating needs.
Description of Work: Complete interior design/decoration of three adjacent rooms on the main floor of my townhome. From paint to rugs to furnishings and all the details. I got tired of living with "contractor white" walls and having no real furniture to sit on, so I decided to properly decorate the main living areas in my home. Studio Starrs worked with me from the ground up. My goal was to design something that I would enjoy in the near term, while also providing some curb appeal if I ever decide to sell the home in several years. I think we succeeded on both accounts. Please note - The cost of service includes all furniture, painting, rugs, framing, accent pieces, lamps, tables, etc.

Beth has great ideas and takes our budget into account. She didn't try to make us buy things that we felt were out of our price range. The only drawback is that she lives in Maryland and we live in Northern Virginia, so we didn't see her as often as we would have liked.
Description of Work: Beth helped us choose paint colors, decorations and upholstery. She designed the remodeling of three of our four bathrooms. She met us at the various home design shops in the Northern Virginia area. We will continue to work with her in the future as she has great and creative ideas.

In June 2013 we bought our home and like most homeowners, we wanted to personalize it. As my husband has been an Active Duty Soldier, we’ve always either lived on a military installation or rented; until now. Within a few months of moving here, we decided it was time to begin our updating; however, realizing that my taste and my husband’s taste varied, we agreed to try using an interior designer in order to compromise our tastes and blend the furniture we had. I began my research and found that it was almost overwhelming; so many to choose from only made the process harder. After speaking to several designers, I contacted Beth who responded within 24 hours and scheduled our initial consultation within a week. From the very beginning she was punctual, honest, friendly, and extremely skilled. As part of the first consult and after listening intently, she provided solid recommendations that were exactly what we needed to hear. The first priority above all others was to replace our foyer’s outdated tiled floor for solid hardwood floor. From this we could then move to wall colors, light fixtures, etc. Once my husband and I agreed to use her services, she immediately began sending me links to websites for light fixtures and entry console tables. She also returned within a week with wall color pallets for us to hold on to and discuss. Within a reasonable time she returned with area rug swatches for us to match to the wall color pallets, as well as prints for our walls that she found throughout the local shops. One great example of the kind of eye Beth has was to recommend that we paint our typical oak stair railing to a glossy black color with the pickets white. Once the floor and walls were done, this added such a finishing touch that it converted our entrance into exactly what we wanted. She has a very good eye for the smallest details that help complete the look we want. Never has she imposed her personal style upon us; however, she always has provided a professional opinion. Now it’s been almost a year since the first time she entered our home and she continues to impress us with her ability to find the nicest things for our home while staying within our budget. Her experience is endless. Beth can find something at the low end or the high end of a price range; it all depends what you want and how much you’re willing to spend. We are extremely happy we decided to use her and will continue using her to until we’re done.

From the first timely response to my inquiry about redoing the master bedroom curtains, bedding etc. to project completion, Affordable Interiors was an excellent choice from Angie's List. I sent the owner Beth a few pictures of my newly remodeled master bathroom so that she would have a feel for my decorating taste. She came to the first meeting with lots of books and ideas that were exactly what I was looking for. I picked fabrics in less than an hour because she had nailed it. She also will watch your pocketbook. I did not give her a budget and everything we chose was moderately priced. Instead of suggesting material for a new bedskirt she said there is nothing wrong with the one I have and we should use it. How many people do you know wouldn't take the opportunity to sell you something if they easily could. I highly respect her for that. She works with a great company that provides custom services and now I have a beautiful new bedroom. During the second meeting with Beth to decide on types of curtains etc. I asked about redoing the wall paper in the kitchen and powder room. No problem. Again within two meetings she found papers that I just love and suggested several choices for new fixtures for the powder room. Again to save my money she suggested I buy what I liked on the internet. I had a ceiling border in the old kitchen and wanted to do it again. She suggested to skip the border and instead do crown molding. Fantastic idea because now the entire first floor has crown molding. Both rooms are currently in the re-do stage with my contractor. I can't wait to see the results because I know I will love them as much as I do the bedroom! My experience with Affordable Interiors was perfect from start to finish and Beth is a delight to work with. I highly recommend and so do my friends who love everything I did and I am doing.

When I first met Beth, I made clear to her that I had to work within a budget, which would require stretching the decorating project over several months. Beth was not deterred by that and has used her interior design skill and talents to make our home beautiful and inviting, without sacrificing quality or my pockedbook. I consider that she is worth every $ I have spent and more. She has been such a pleasure to work with. Since our very first meeting, in fact, Beth has discerned my likes and dislikes and selected just the right furnishings and accessories that appeal to me. She has never tried to impose her design preferences on me but instead has always provided options and alternatives that invariably reflect my own unique style. On a personal level, Beth is so amiable and solicitious and responsive that I felt I was working with a trusted friend throughout the project. I am so pleased with all of her services - I will definitely call on her for future design work - and if it were possible I would give Beth an A+ grade in every category.
Description of Work: I contacted Beth in May 2011 after my husband and I signed a contract to buy a second home in VA; she actually begin work for me before we closed on our home. Contacting her was the best decision I ever could have made, as from that point until now, Beth's services have been invaluable. For starters, Beth put together several options for the first floor decorating project; she worked with me and her recommended general contractor for a major remodel project; she subcontracted with an excellent painting company for an entire first floor painting job; and she arranged for new shades, window coverings, and bedding to be made by one of her seamstress vendors. Those services alone would have earned Beth a grade A from me but I am just as pleased with her decorating and design work. She helped me select wall paint, and fabric for window treatments and bedding as well as area rugs for the first floor rooms and bathroom tiles and fixtures for the remodel project. She's advised me on purchases big and small, on everything from furniture to bathroom cabinet knobs. Lastly, Beth purchased various rugs and other accessories on my behalf, saving me the time and trouble; and she even went with me to a "junkyard" to select just the right [and affordable] countertop for the first floor bathroom.

Extremely well. I converted my formal living room to an office and it is now one of the most used rooms in the house. I also love the paint colors we picked out for the first floor.
Description of Work: I never used my formal living room and asked them for help in getting more use out of this room. I also asked for help regarding paint color for my entire first floor.
