I have a 4 year old Trane unit. To my surprise, I found it blowing cool air and not cooling the house at all. With the forecast expected to be 98 degrees the following day, I put a call in right away to Eric. He had been out to do work on a humidifier previously. They called back right away and said they would try to squeeze us in as the were very busy. Just a couple hours later, Eric called and said he'd be right over. He fixed us temporarily and will be back in a week for a permanent fix. Very prompt, professional and honest. Will definitely use him again.

We were having issues with a 14 year old Carrier system and it was time to replace the unit. We were happy with our current Heating and Air Service Company. We had an intermittent problem and the company had performed work over a holiday weekend that had cost $400. The problem reoccurred after the repair and it was at that point that it was determined it was a more expensive repair. We understood, intermittent problems can be a challenging and the company jumped through hoops to make it right. We felt that we had a $400 bargaining chip if we stayed with that company, but we wanted 3 bids to be safe. We called Eric Smock Heating and Air based on Angie?s List reviews and their location and service area. Eric was first to show up and we pretty much knew by the end of that meeting that we were going to select his company unless his pricing was way out of whack. He was very professional, didn't bad mouth other A/C brands or service companies and was very thorough during his visit. He sent over the quote that night (late at night) and committed to install within 2 business days when we made our final decision. We couldn't get anyone from the other two companies to show up for the initial sales visit in 2 days, quotes were slow in coming and expected lead times for install were a week+. Eric?s quote included clearly defined options, pricing was reasonable and they didn't charge to change out the lines to the outdoor unit. They also loaned us two window A/C units to help us over the weekend. They sent in a team to perform the installation and they arrived at 8:30 AM and were gone by 3:00 PM. They were very professional, worked well with dogs :-), and when they were done the system installation looked great; They also gave us a good overview of the system and the place was clean when they left. We couldn't be more pleased with Eric Smock and his company and we will retain them to maintain the system in the future.

I could not be more pleased with entire experience.

First off, let me tell you what a refreshing experience it was dealing with Eric. I can't recall the last time I called a service provider and had such a professional experience. His phone is answered promptly by a very pleasant lady, Ashley. Ashley told me that Eric would call me back within 15 minutes; he called me back in 10 minutes. We set up a two hour window of time (10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) the next day to meet. At 10:30, Eric called to alert me that he might be running a little late and wouldn't be there until a little after 11:00 a.m. and to see if this would present any problems for me. My experience with most service providers is that they assume if they show up sometime in the original time window, they've met their obligation. Not Eric! He wanted to assure that we'd have adequate time to discuss everything and that my time wasn't being negatively impacted. When speaking with Eric, you'll quickly see that he is extremely knowledgeable about his trade as well as the Trane product line he represents. He explained all the options to me as well a the pros and cons of each. He promised to get a quote to us in a timely manner and we had it within 24 hours. His quote was very thorough and detailed and there were very few questions on our side. In fact, he gave us three units at different price points for us to choose from. This allowed us to consider what would work best for our situation. Unfortunately, we ended up going with another provider because the manufacturer they represent provided a slightly better end cost but more importantly a much better warranty on their product. This was no reflection on Eric. In fact, I was so impressed with the experience of dealing with his company that he would definitely have gotten our business on that alone had other factors been equal. I would highly recommend him if you're looking for a reliable heating and air conditioning service provider.

Eric has been doing my maintenance since I purchased my new heating system from him 8 years ago. Always on time and always professional.

Our old heat pump died, and we needed it removed and replaced. Mr. Smock made certain we were happy with the installation and location of the new heat pump.

My wife and I researched this job for two years (I know, seems excessive). We knew the job was going to be large and expensive, so we elected to take our time with our research and interviewing potential contractors. Far and away Eric Smock and his crew were the best option for us. Eric personally quoted the job, was responsive to questions/concerns, and was at our home (and working!) the day of installation. The crew was also very professional and patient with us (my wife and I are both very particular). While Eric's company may not be for everyone, I would highly recommend you speak with Eric before committing to an HVAC project in your home.

Eric and His staff were very accommodating and helped us take advantage of the MD Tax free day for this purchase. They also completed the rebate form for Potomac Edison so all we had to do was sign and mail.

The crew came on time and had the new system installed in about six hours. I was impressed by the speed and professional workmanship and attitude. I am an operating engineer and have been dealing with HVACR contractors for forty-two years. I wish all contractors worked like the Smock crew. During the recent very cold weather the house stayed warm and comfortable.

Woke up on Sat morning to colder than usual temps in the house. Discovered that the furnace would come on but then I would smell gas. Called Eric Smock Heating & AC and got an answer on the first ring. Call back expectation is within one hour; I got a call back within 25 minutes from Eric Smock. He said he would be out between 10 and 11 am. He arrived promptly at 10 am. He diagnosed the problem and had the replacement part in his tool bag. 15 minutes later, I had heat. Paid the bill; signed up for the maintenance plan; and forgot to mention the Angie's List $25 discount! Overall it was great service.

We very very pleased with the service. We had three bids and there was something we didn't like about each one. At this point we were inclined toward a TRANE system, so we sought another bid from an authorized TRANE dealer. First good sign was that Eric came himself to look over our system and not a sales rep. Eric Smoch's bid was about $1,800 less than the bid we had received on the same TRANE XL16i air conditioner and XV80 furnace. The warranty was the same and the bid included everything that was in any of the three bids we had in hand and then some (digital thermostat, new refrigerant line set, condensate drain with trap and cleanout, high water alarm, box of 12 air filters,...). Some of the other bids included an option for a new humidifier. Eric examined the Aprilair 760 which had not been used since we purchased the home about 2-1/2 years ago so we were not sure whether it worked. He included cleaning and testing the unit in the bid. It is working just fine. We were provided with the paperwork for the Potomac Edison $300 rebate which we submitted. Only potential minor disappointment is that the AC doesn't seem to qualify for the 2013 federal tax credit of $300. It looks like the requirement for a central system is SEER greater than or equal to 16 and EER greater than or equal to 13. Despite the XL16i designation the SEER is 15.5 and the EER is 13. Hope I'm wrong. Tax preparer will sort this one out. Overall we are very pleased with the HVAC system, the great price and the excellent service (whole system installed in one day, excellent clean up and walk through of system operation).

Very knowledgeable, professional and timely. Very quickly during the appointment to get an estimate for the work to be completed, i felt that they knew what they were doing and would do a thorough job. From the owner to each of the four workers who installed our new system, all were professional and hard working. Everyone involved arrived on time for each appointment. We're glad that we chose Eric Smock to install our new system.

I needed more refrigerant in my units and leak test, which ended up to more than I had expected. I was doing a routine maintance and spent double the amount I was expecting to pay. I am not sure if it was the best price and I am sure there were people that could have done it cheaper, but they were there so I went ahead with the serivce.

Max and Dan came out the next day to perform annual maintenance. They were prompt, answered all of our questions and very professional.

The service call went well. They inspected the outside and inside heat pump to ensure that it was in working order for the winter season - including the humidifier.

We had already replaced our upstairs HVAC unit about 3 years ago. That was done by a well-known and well-regarded larger local company, Warner. (We had also used Warner for 2 units at a rental property.) So they were the first folks we called. We tried very hard to work with them again but Eric Smock won our business. Why? First, he was recommended by a neighbor. We looked at the work he'd done for him and were impressed at the neatness and professionalism. Another better reason, is that Eric's price was $2,000 better than the competition for the exact same equipment. We really tried to give the business to the people we'd used before, but $2,000 is a lot of money. Eric matched the other company's upgrades, including warranty, service agreement and upgraded thermostat. His financing was the same also. Additionally, this may not make a bit of difference to some, but the person from the larger company was great but, without a doubt, he was a slick salesperson. Eric looked at the job with the quiet, practical eye of an installer. Phone calls were returned promptly and his office staff was quick to email accurate revisions to the bid. It was nice to have a printed version of exactly what he offered. (The competition was mostly phone calls.) His crew of 5 were professional and worked hard, completing the job in one day. The end product was very professional and just what we wanted. We had a minor glitch with the thermostat but without hesitation (or even us asking) Eric replaced it the next day and had us up and running quickly and happily. I would definately use Eric Smock HVAC in the future.

I had a pleasant experience from start to finish with this company. The receptionist was very pleasant and was willing to get me an appointment that day even though I was not a customer yet. Matt and Logan came out and inspected my AC unit which was not functioning properly in the hottest part of the day. They replaced the capacitor and cleaned out a mouse nest from the outside unit. They were very efficient and pleasant and Matt took the time to answer my questions and give maintenance tips. I always dread searching for a good repair person for anything, but this nice and easy and didn't cost me a fortune. I have already recommended them to friends and family.

My air conditioner decided to fail on one of the hottest days of the year. I called a couple of places, and Smock was the only company that was able to make it the same day. They were prompt and courteous. They knew exactly what the problem was and fixed it. I was really pleased with the service, and even signed up for their maintenance plan, so that they will come out a couple times a year and inspect the unit. Would definitely recommend.

Arrived on time, very clean, neat, trusting employee and seemed knowledgeable.

I called Monday morning when they opened after having my unit break after hours on Saturday. I was told that they would call me 30 minutes before they would arrive. The owner came around 4:45 and serviced the outside unit. He took the time to get it cooled down with the hose so that he could find out what was wrong. In the end it was the capacitor, it's fixed, and my home is cool once more! He was very friendly and gave all my kids a stress ball from his company, which was the icing on top for them. Unfortunately, I forgot Angie's list offers coupons so my bill would have been $25 less had I remembered that. I already knew that I wanted use Eric Smock Heating and AC so I didn't need to check here for a review. This company have been friendly, efficient, and fair priced each time I have used them.

Eric and son were top notch from a professional and courtesy stand point. Offering options and different cost models for our situation. I was impressed and will continue to use Eric for future HVAC needs!

Smock gave us the best deal by far of 6 local contractors on new high efficiency home AC system. Very knowledgeable crew that installed the system quickly with no mess.

Work was done quickly and professionally. On the more expensive side, but when I asked for a quote comparable to another company in the area, the quote was about the same. I found pricing for HVAC services to be difficult since there is no line-item breakdown of the quote. I liked the fact that Eric came out on multiple occasions and was willing to discuss the benefits of the different SEER ratings and suggest something that fit our budget. The guys all wore shoe covers (small but nice detail) and were polite. No mess afterwards. The maintenance fee was competitive and the office personnel were great. They helped us get through some scheduling issues and did the paperwork for the energy credit. A very positive experience, would definitely recommend.

We were completely happy with the service we received from them. They came and fortunately found our Trane heat pump only needed a relatively inexpensive part to get it back in service. I was very pleased since considering its age, I expected to need to replace the outdoor unit. They also found the unit a bit low on Freon and topped it off. Overall, we thought their charges for everything on the call was very reasonable. The only issue we had, and I don't fault them for it, was that we miscommunicated with them on contact numbers and they had my number at work instead of our home number where my wife was waiting on them. I was tied up and not by my phone when they tried to "call ahead" before showing up and since they could not contact anyone, they pushed our call off to the next day, not wanting to risk showing up and find no one there. I thought I had made it quite clear my wife was home waiting for them, but I don't blame them for not wanting to risk showing up and not being able to perform the service call. I just mention this to make sure everyone knows their policy of always needing to have a successful "call ahead" contact and verifying someone is home before they will show up. Generally, I feel that is a reasonable policy and it was just a bit frustrating we had the miscommunication, but we were equally at fault on it, so I can't blame them. We would certainly use them again when we need service in the future.

Answered all my questions. Installation went just as they promised. Could not have gone better.
