They were professional and just not what I needed exactly. I thought it was a little high in price. They found a fault from another company left in a vent collar.
Description of Work: They came out and gave us a estimate and fixed a leak in one of the vent collars.

We purchased an older home and knew we would need to address some deferred maintenance, including with the roof. Few roofing companies have the expertise in slate that Wagner has. They replaced individual slates that were damaged, replaced flashing that was improperly installed, and replaced one flat section of old tin that had rusted and was coming up with an impermeable membrane roof. We'll have additional repairs to undertake in the future as we work to bring the structure to the best possible condition, and look forward to working with the pros at Wagner. Their work is high quality, highly specialized, and the investment is worth it to protect the home. They are not inexpensive, but they are not competing on price--they are competing on best available expertise in the region.
Description of Work: Had all sections of roof inspected. Replaced damaged slate tiles, replaced improperly installed flashing, replaced nearly eighty-year old tin roof section with impermeable membrane.

After the interaction listed above, I told the estimator I was not interested.
Description of Work: I called this company for a quote for a new commercial flat roof. I spoke to the secretary and gave all my information to her. I received a call back 3 days later explaining I was out of their service area b/c my cell phone number was an out of state number. The estimator obviously did not check the property address which was in their service area. I can understand this mishap being that I have an out of state cell number. So after explaining the location and the project in detail to the estimator he told me he'd get back to me with a quote. After a week and a half I didnt hear anything, I called and the same estimator forgot who I was and all of the property details, but assured me within another week he'd get back to me. A week and a half later I reluctantly called back to check in thinking he may have the quote ready or was too busy to get back to me promptly. Unfortunately, once again, the same estimator had NO IDEA who I was. Needless to say that was the end our relationship.

Working with Wagner Home Improvement was a great experience. I contracted with Wagner Home Improvement around October 2012 to replace the roof in the spring of 2013. They came to the house to give me an estimate and show me samples of their work and roofing material options. We discussed my concerns with possible heat loss and they addressed how the installation of new roof vents could help with this. They gave us addresses of other homes they worked on that were similar to ours so we could really see how the shingle colors would look with our brick home. We signed the contract and picked out our color. They took no money down and said they would bill us at the end after all work is completed. In the spring, we began talking about the roof work in March with the understanding that no work could be started until the Ohio weather stopped snowing and reached a certain temperature. The Wagner team was great to work with as they kept in contact with me through March and April so we could get the roof work done as soon as the weather broke. (It was a terrible winter and there was nothing that could be done about that.) We agreed to start the roof work at the beginning of May and the crew worked on my house for 3 days. They were fantastic guys to have at the house. The tore off the old roof, cleaned up the ground each night with a magnetic roller to make sure they picked up any nails or screws, and they removed all the debris. They got the roof on quickly and then added the gutters and fascia board. The house looked great and after having the new roof for year with the new vents, we experienced less heat loss that next winter. The work and the shingles are guaranteed and they sent us all the paperwork explaining what to do should a problem develop. I would definitely use them again for roof work or other improvement needs.
Description of Work: Complete tear off of roof (3 layers), inspected underlying plywood for repairs, installed new 20 year roof shingles, installed new gutters, installed new fascia board and new roof vents.

This comment is only an opinion. I just don't understand the lack of follow-up ... a simple return call. I am inclined to write this for the average Angie's list home owner like myself who might needed roof/gutter repairs for their old home. I spent $3,500 plus hard earned dollars with another company (by the way, I am satisfied with them) but I dislike wasting my time with back and forth calls to Wagner. Background: I had used Wagner in the late 1980's and was pleased with the metal roof they installed. So needless to say, they did good work. Recently, I had a home inspection because my old home, built in 1928, is having cracks in the joist ceiling area and moisture in the basement. I had a laundry list from the home inspector of things that needed to be checked on the roof/gutter, I wanted to deal with a reputable company so I again called Wagner. I did so twice to request that they send someone and reinspect roof/repaint/fix gutter etc. Lady with whom I spoke was pleasant. She said she was going to refer my call to the estimating department and they would have a man come out. NO ONE EVER CALLED ME BACK. Later I gathered from speaking with another contractor that this reputable company--Wagner was into BIG accounts and probably didn't rate my request worthwhile. This may or may not be true. I was disappointed that the Wagner was not upfront with me and perhaps they could have at least informed me that perhaps my zip code or request was not worth a certain dollar amount.
Description of Work: Took my request but never called back to arrange for estimator to come to my home.

Our neighbors were in awe of the efficiency, hard work and lack of mess as well as lack of disruption of their lives. Our ponds and plantings were unharmed. The clean-up was excellent and the job supervisor returned promptly to correct some clean-up details requested by me. We were away during the actual work...had planned the job that way. Given the life-span of the roof, we are very pleased with the job. One area of flashing around a false chimney did leak after a very severe rain and wind storm. Wagner returned promptly without questions and repaired the problem. So, more expensive then others but in our opinion well worth the cost.
Description of Work: This was to replace a cedar shake roof and flashing in a house built at 3 different periods of time (late 1880's to 1997) which has a complex roof structure with different slopes going in different directions. The understructure of the shakes and the shakes needed to be placed to allow for proper aeration ( air flow), including through the roof peaks. Flashing and understructure had to allow for water flow into the specially hung copper gutters. Flashing was superior grade copper and needed to work around two chimneys and other roof-piercing structures. No staples were allowed in the construction The building has a garden courtyard with two ponds, both near the house. Work had to be done in a fashion that did not destroy plantings or the ponds and their fish. Neighbors were not to be disturbed or disrupted. Wagner's bid was above that of others. Their knowledge and ability to define the needs and the details about the materials were also better than that of others. So was their reputation in the greater D.C. community.

I am very pleased with the roof and gutters and the quality of the work performed. We had the gutters replaced about five years ago, at a cost of about $35,000, by another company, who was the lowest bidder (that company is nowhere to be found, at least by the same name). Wagner bid at that time and was the second high, but we chose the cheapest. The gutters are specialty gutters and we had a hard time finding any company that could work on them. They were poorly done so when it was obvious they had to be redone, I decided to go with Wagner, and have the roof done at the same time. Unbeknownst to me, our salesman became ill after we signed the contract, and i believe our project fell through the cracks, which is why I rated a C for punctuality. After several follow up calls, eventually directly to Mr. Wagner, work started in December, but by only two men. These men were very skilled, polite, and professional, but it is a large roof and the winter was terrible. There were only a couple weeks where they could work a full week due to weather. We were told that these were the best men for the job, which I believe, but Wagner is a large company. (If the weather were better, the time would have been substantially less even with only two men, who worked non-stop through the bitter cold.) Nonetheless, the job was completed in May and it is beautiful and the gutters work perfectly. I have had two follow-up issues and the response has been good. I have been noticing much more closely other metal roofs and can see the difference in quality between ours and others. I believe the difference in price was worth it, and the long wait for completion, while tedious going through it, was time well spent.
Description of Work: Wagner replaced a cedar shake roof with a new metal roof and replaced copper inset gutters.

I don't think they were very attentive. They came, did their work and left. They kind of inspected and that was the idea. It was a paid inspection. It's hard to assess the price. I don't have an opinion about that. I thought they did not do particularly any added job. I would not use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used Wagner Roofing. I last used their services six or nine months ago. They did the inspection for me in my apartment building.

Description of Work: The work involved replacing cedar shake roofs on two residential buildings and included the replacement of all flashing (chimneys, run-off areas, edges of roofs) with copper flashing. The estimate process was highly professional, with full explanations and open offers to provide more information. All materials and methods, including not using any staples, were reviewed in the context of the highest current national building standards. This also applies to the cedar shakes and the placement of them as well as the quality assurance about the underroofing. All workmen and work place supervisors were full-time employees with benefits. Their morale, efficiency, and clean-up was terrific. Post work was inspected with me by them and no final payment requested until I was fully satisfied. Neighbors were treated with courtesy and no disruption. Indeed, neighbors were quite in awe of the job. Their work is warrenteed. If you want a life-time quality job and are willing to pay about 20% more than the competition asks, I definitely recommend Wagner Roofing. We first used them in the early 1980's on another house. Impressive to maintain quality over so many years.

The roof has performed well to date, and has not leaked since installation. However, I had one bad experience during installation, and have had two nasty surprises afterwards. First, they attached the fascia on the front in a manner that was so unlevel that it could be seen from the street. The work men did not seem to know what they did wrong, and I had to get a manager out to agree that the problem was real (I mean, this was really obvious--it didn't take a rocket scientist to see this.) They did fix this problem. The nasty surprises showed up a little later. After spending a hot summer in my master bedroom with suddenly weak air conditioning, it became apparent that they had broken an ac vent in the roof by carelessly stepping on it while doing the work. I had to pay $500 to have that repaired. The second nasty surprise came when I went into the crawl space (there's no attic, just a crawl space) to look for something that seemed to be running around up there. I found out that they had used small piles of scrap wood to hold up the joists, that they had not replaced all of the charred decking (from the previous fire) and that they had left an enormous amount of trash in the roof. When I called to ask for them to explain this to me, they said that it was fine--that they did what they were required to do, and nothing more. They said that the little pieces of scrap wood (stacked one on top of each other, of different sizes and origins) holding up the roof were normal. They said they had "only promised" to replace 12 pieces of the deck, so that's why they left a charred piece of plywood as part of my roof deck. And it took a huge amount of arm-bending to even get them to consider sending someone back out to look at it. They also told me that, though they had sold me a 20-year warranty, that only *really* applied to the roofing membrane, and not the structural work they did. The structural work, they said, was only guaranteed for two years. All told, the "new" deck, structural shoring up, and roof membrane installation cost me $25,000. (The front fascia work was an additional $7,000). I paid a premium because they are a reputable company, and boast about the historic buildings they have worked on, and I expected them to do a quality job with good craftsmanship. The work looks shoddy to me, I can't get them to give me assurances, and I really think now that they took me for a ride and pocketed most of that $25,000. Because there is no way that the materials that they used and the work that went into the shady looking end result cost anything near that much.
Description of Work: Wagner remediated a poorly installed roof for me, that had been put on my house after a fire. The structure of the entire roof needed to be shored up, the decking replaced, a new membrane put on, and gutters replaced. I also had them replace the fascia--basically the fancy trim at the roof line--on the front of the house, which is an historic rowhouse with a flat roof.

Replacing the Yankee gutters was a very complicated job as they are built inside the walls and they did an excellent job. They came out to take a look; they immediately diagnosed the problem and fixed it. Their price is high but I got what I paid for unlike the other company, I certainly learnt my lesson on this job.
Description of Work: I have a copper roof and I hired them for some repair work on it. They had to undo the shabby workmanship of another company that came out initially for this work. They also replaced the Yankee gutters that were leaking.

I was in need of an estimate to replace a roof in a hurry. I called on Wednesday and was told an estimater would call me later Wednesday or on Thursday. On Thursday someone called (but not the estimater) and took all my information again. They did not contact me again to set up the estimate until the following Tuesday. By that time, I had already contacted another company and had their completed estimate.

The estimator arrived unannounced, several days after he was expected to call and schedule an appointment. He did not discuss the problem that needed rectifying, simply took measurements and left. Two weeks later I received a three line "contract" in the mail that was absolutely meaningless to a lay-person not familiar with the roofing industry. On a previous occasion, (several years earlier) I had called Wagner to find a leak in the roof, once again they arrived unannounced, walked around on the roof, said they couldn't find the leak and charged us $500 for the privilege of having them come by.
Description of Work: I called Wagner roofing for an estimate to repair/replace a leaking skylite.
