SUPER STURGE DRAIN & PLUMBING CO

I just had someone come give me an estimate for mold remediation in my basement. He said the way the sump pump system looked was the worst he had ever seen. Someone who gave me an estimate for something else said the same thing. They did not smooth the concrete, they did not extend the drains around the entire basement. The area they left untouched, I found later, was soaking wet and had black mold, so it really needed to have the drains there. The concrete covering the drainage system is very rough and uneven. I will have to have it ground down before I can have any kind of floor put down. The painters were careless, didn't seem to know what they were doing, and didn't think before they did things. They put down one coat of the right color on one wall, then painted most of the wall with a second coat of a different color. How do you not notice this? They were unable to paint the quarter round evenly, even after I had them do it again. They did not know how to apply and sand spackle so it was smooth. Sturge kept sending me to get more paint. I found out later that one of the painters had been painting without putting a coat of primer on first, which I assume is one reason I had to buy so much paint. They only seemed to have one drop cloth and they spattered paint all over my newly refinished wood floors. The whole experience was a nightmare. Sturge under bids everyone else, but I learned the hard way that in this case, you get what you pay for.

I have used this company about 5-6 times on by my own home and rental properties. They always come quickly, get the job done, come with little notice (especially with emergencies when they are fabulous), and are pleasant to deal with. I have not used them for any complex jobs, but for day to day repairs and installations, they are good. Sometimes they come with more people than I think are really needed, but even so, their prices are as good as any plumbers I have used and they are fast and always turn up when they say they will. Note: The list above represents the range off work they have done. The price is the average I have paid for a service call when the company did 2-3 things.

Arrived over 1 hour late for appointment. 4 ''workers'' arrived when 1 expert sufficient for the job. Cut dry wall in wrong spot (not behind the tub). Did not have any fixtures (spout) in his truck--needed to go to Home Depot to buy. Replaced hardware unnecessarily when fixing a leak was the issue. Did not close off dry wall when finished plumbing work. Tried to upsell additional work from arrival. Work was shoddy---forced water through the shower resulted when bath water runs. After making 2 follow up appointments, he did not show up for either appointment or call. Diagnosed a 'new' issue over the phone as a divert issue which he offered to estimate. New issue was caused by original 'fix'. States work is guaranteed, but does not stand behind commitment. Charged for drive time (he decided to drive in rush hour), charged for plumber, helper, & technician (when 1 was sufficient), over charged for parts.
