I took off work early to meet Alvaro Monterroso at my home. He was 30 minutes late and did not call. I explained what I needed, but he began to talk to me about repaving my porch and steps with brick and stone. We got back to what I actually wanted and I scribbled down three options with prices. I asked him to produce a detailed written estimate so that I could share it with my husband. I gave him my email so he could send the estimate. It's been almost a month and I've heard nothing from him. I'm very disappointed!

Awesome job! The company provided great service in a timely manner. They kept me in the loop for each phase of the project. They cleaned up everything leaving a very professional job! I have received many accolades on the great job they did. I highly recommend them.

Excellent. After contacting and reviewing proposals from several contractors, we chose Avalos to perform the work. The experience was seamless from start to finish. The workers arrived as scheduled and completed the work on schedule. The contractor was very helpful in explaining what he was going to do and keeping us in the loop throughout the whole process. He was very helpful in working with us on the design and picking out the engineered slate. All of the employees were very friendly and professional. It was one of the very best experiences we have had dealing with contractors. We would not hesitate to retain his services in the future or to refer him to friends.

He seemed very knowledgeable and gave a very competitive quote that he worked up on paper while on site. He said he would get back to me with the pricing in writing/contract and he never did. Sent a follow up on 6/1 and he did not respond.

From start to finish, Lester Avalos and his team were great to work with. Customer satisfaction is priority number one for the owner and his team. Now that the project is complete, I love my new yard and have received numerous compliments from my neighbors. I plan on using the company in the future to build a fence and pergola!

Lester Avalos is a very friendly and professional individual. His team was great as well. They were on time with start of the project and with some unfortunate weather were still able to complete the project in one week. I would recommend this company for many reasons, but above all because my vision was spot on with Lester.

Work was well done

I contacted Lester when I realized that we needed a place to park our cars, and we wanted something that was environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing. He evaluated our space, and gave me an estimate on the spot. His price was comparable to an estimate I got years ago for something that was not nearly as nice. His team started the work when they said they would and came about three days a week until it was done. Lester kept me abreast of the progress, and let me know when his other jobs would keep him from coming to our site. The masonry is gorgeous and the pavers look great in the yard. The job required his team to take down three trees, digging out the stumps. They also had to dig out and remove at least four truckloads of dirt. The wall was made with cinder blocks and cement that was then covered them with beautiful large flat stones. They dug a ramp to provide access to the back yard. They also built in proper drainage from the yard through the wall and onto the pavers. The surface is gorgeous and sturdy. Further, there were a number of things that Lester did that we did not ask him to do. He landscaped the area around the parking pad, putting mulch in the spaces that were just mud. He also saw that our back fence was bellowing out because of dirt that was pressing against it. He dug a trench near the fence and put a lumber barrier between the dirt and the fence. He also repaired the fence so that it is securely attached to the post. Again, I did not ask him to do any of this, and he did not charge me extra for these improvements. I highly recommend Avalos Stone and Landscape to anyone who wants good quality work, done by a personable professional with very high standards.

Lester was a true professional and an absolute pleasure to work with. He was able to come in and do the work earlier and at a lower price than his competitors and we could not be more happy with the results. We had multiple discussions about the design and materials before he started and he was very patient with us as we went back-and-forth on what we wanted for the yard. Once we committed to a design, he gave us a realistic time line for when he would be done and ended up finishing one day early. This was a pleasant surprise after dealing with numerous contractors who have over promised and under delivered. He and his team left our house immaculate, cleaning up the yard, garage, and alley behind our house where their materials were staged. While this job was just for the paver patio, we plan to hire him again this fall to plant some trees in our backyard. Plus our cat loved him. :-)

We are very pleased with the results and the product was exactly as we expected. The crew completed the work quickly but paid attention to details. We have had no problems to date and we plan to have Lester back to work on our front walkway.

I came across Lester almost on accident as I was starting the process of soliciting estimates for LOTS of work I needed done on the exterior of an older home I had just bought in Takoma Park. The yard was a total mess- the whole yard graded toward the house. The retaining wall around the back porch was falling down and the porch was in shambles. The concrete back porch had a poorly laid layer of bricks on top of it. And it all graded toward the house- which had a crawl space. There was a large dead tree that needed to be cut down. Pretty quickly Lester drew up a plan and estimate for all the work. He carefully explained his estimate- and his plan for transforming my yard. His price was fair- and I knew this because I had multiple estimates from different contractors. Lester was professional, friendly, and communicative. Lester and his crew did a great job start to finish. I liked that he was around throughout the process and took an active role in the work. His crew was also great and very talented. Lester is a very creative landscaper with an eye for design. He clearly takes pleasure in doing high quality work and pleasing his customers. I'm definitely happy with the work that he and his crew completed.

Lester and his crew did a wonderful job of replacing our walkways. The flagstone on the front walkway is beautiful. The new rear landing was a revelation. We had no idea how much of an improvement it would be. Lester has an artist's eye for detail. We have received numerous compliments from our neighbors about his work. Lester gives good value for the money. We got estimates from two larger companies before contracting for the work. Lester's price was easily best, allowing us to add some enhancements within the project's budget. Avalos Stone and Landscaping is a small company -- which is another reason I like them. But, they don't have a dozen work crews to dispatch to various jobs. When we have a stretch of bad weather like this winter, you might have to wait a little for the job to be completed, but it's worth the wait.

Lester is a great guy, and he and his crew do a very professional job. We have used Avalos Stone and Landscape for the past two years for both routine maintenance and larger landscaping jobs. Lester and his crew have installed french drains and a channel drain for our backyard, created new beds of peonies and hydrangeas, and installed a barrier to control bamboo growth. In addition, they have done fall/spring maintenance and helped us rejuvenate a neglected lawn through regular aerating, seeding, and fertilization. We are very happy with the quality of work, and trust Lester with all of our landscaping and stone needs. This company is HIGHLY recommended.

Lester was (and is!) great. He is very young and ambitious, but he retains others with expertise whenever there are aspects that he is still learning. For example, he teamed with an expert plant person to help us decide which plants to use. His stone work was first-rate. We own a historic home with a lot of yard...almost 2 acres. We've been using Lester to do our yard work for the past two years. He and his workers have removed all the invasive vines from the property, installed new flower beds and mulch around the trees, and installed a gravel stone driveway. He is currently finishing up a brick pathway. The old path was not graded properly and the bricks were heaving and were pretty ugly. Our house is nearly 200 years old and we wanted to replace the ugly brick with antique brick that would better match our house. Lester and his team removed the ugly brick, regraded and properly installed the new (antique) brick path. it looks awesome and we couldn't be happier with the work. I forgot to mention that he also removed badly constructed wood steps that went to the basement and installed stone steps using old chiseled granite we found on the property. The work that Avalos Stone and Landscaping has done over the past two years has increased the value of our property. it looks beautiful and we look forward to working with Lester in the future. A new stone patio and grape arbor are next on our list.

Avalos Stone and Landscape were wonderful to work with. Lester Avalos is the owner and runs the company and he personally came to go over the estimate and do the work himself. He is very easy to work with. provides honest and reasonable pricing and was very punctual with getting the work done. The grass he planted was in the backyard with a lot of shade and oak trees and we had been unable to make grass grow there for several years. He properly conditioned the soil and tilled it, and suddenly there was beautiful green grass! Overall he is a very enthusiastic, nice person who cares about doing the best job. He takes pride in even small jobs and makes sure the quality is the best. I use him for all my landscaping and masonry needs.
