Entire process was very smooth and efficient. At no additional charge, the serviceman also installed a new pull-chain for the damper to replace the old one which had broken off. I subsequently requested an estimate for work to address re-pointing of bricks at top of the chimney, replacement of the chimney cap, and also assess interior of the chimney stacks. Inspection revealed a significant and plainly visible crack/gap in the interior masonry, as well as several loose bricks inside the firebox. Replacement of the liner in the chimney stack used by the gas boiler and water heater was also recommended. The overall quote, including all the interior & exterior work, was more competitive as compared to other quotes I'd gotten as much as two years prior that addressed smaller scopes of work. In addition, APC&M offered a significant discount if all work was requested and scheduled during the slower, early Spring season.

Scheduled the inspection, all went as planned, prompt appointment, on time. Unfortunately for us, it turns out we need some pretty significant chimney repair due to the age of the chimney. It was great that they told us each repair that needed to be done (mostly installing a stainless steel liner to the chimney to replace the 80 yr old terra cotta) and what the significance is for each. We'll be waiting a bit on the repairs due to the large estimate ($4K) because as long as we don't use our chimney, it's not presenting an immediate or dangerous issue. We'll need to plan ahead for this budget item!

It turned out quite well. So far there are no glaring glitches or errors. People were polite and professional. It was a good deal. If there were additional charges beyond the big deal amount, my wife would have mentioned it to me. She would have said something and she didn't say anything. We weren't exactly in a position to make positive action on any of their suggestions. So we had to just sort of say, "Thanks, but no thanks" at that time. But we do need to get our chimney repaired in the near future. They weren't pulling a high-pressure sales stunt or anything like that. They were just informing us technically how our situation was. As people who detest high-pressure sales and really appreciate technical information from service renderers, that was very welcome. They cleaned the chimney and didn't leave a speck of blackness on our carpet. It was a nice job.

Inspected chimney for spalling bricks. Assessed chimney liner. Proposed replacement of all brick above the roof line, and proposed installation of chimney liner (likely now required by code for use with my wood stove insert), new crown, and chimney cap. The office staff were surprisingly unprofessional, and the technician did not gain my trust. I got the impression that they would take whatever I was willing to pay, whether or not the work was actually required. I was more confident in the second opinion that I got from another company. True, in the latter case I was largely motivated by the lower cost, and more realistic scope of work (for a 40-year-old tract home in need of simple maintenance). But, it always pays to get that second opinion.

My experience went fine. They cleaned it and they left. They were fine. They did their job and they left.

American Chimney is absolutely one of my goto contractors, especially for all chimney needs. They successfully installed a complicated and fully cusstom built wood burning fireplace and were involved in helping me make all necessary decisions during the fabrication process. They exclusively do all of my chimney cleaning, which is twice a season due to the awesome fireplace they installed! As a contractor, I respect their prompt billing and ease of payment. I would highly recommend to all persons interested in chimney cleaning, chimney cap replacement, flue lining, and fireplace installation.
