Went great. Originally an AL Big Deal for an inspection and cleaning of the fireplace flue and chimney. As a result problems were identified. I had not used the fireplace for nearly 5 years because I had not had it inspected and had concerns about its safety. So they did the deal and identify some issues. I was not surprised based on the inspection of the house when I purchased it. The inspector advised me I would need to repair the chimney in 5 yrs or so. at that time. So I scheduled the work and it was scheduled timely. The inspection and cleaning were professional and informative. The follow up work took two visits but I knew why because I was kept well informed. Customer service was really good the company kept me well informed. It took two days. They had to break out my current terra cotta liner and install a new steel chimney, insulation and other critical things. I was so very happy with the work by all of the techs who performed the work. Edgar who lead the chimney repairs was really super. He kept everything clean, kept me informed as the work progressed and explained everything I needed to do in the future.
Description of Work: This was originally an AL Big Deal for an inspection at $119 to inspect and clean the flu and chimney.

He was very professional and explained that one of our chimneys had recently been re-worked and that the work looked very good. He said it was clean and that he did not need to clean it. The other chimney is original to the house and he suggested not using it unless we wanted to have it reworked, which we don't really think we would ever use it. He was friendly, nice and very professional.
Description of Work: The provider inspected the chimneys, but they did not need to be cleaned. The usual fee is $125, but since he just inspected, he only charged $75.

Don't waste your time with these guys. They didn't even look at our chimney before trying to up-sell us on a $6000 chimney liner. Got a second opinion and the chimney cleaned and had a great winter in a clean chimney. Run from these guys.

They were wonderful. This is a difficult and dirty job, and they were prepared. First, the estimator knew exactly what he was doing. He went up the ladder to view the chimney from the top, and he went into the basement to see about the flue system inside. He gave me the information I needed to understand what was going on with the chimney. Clearly, some bricks were missing or chipped, but he also pointed out that one crown was missing, the flue system was not code, and the liner needed replacing. He was honest in saying that we would not die of carbon monoxide poisoning if we did not switch out part of the piping system, but that it would be better if we did. The workers were so professional. They went straight to work, using scaffolding to do the job well. They had had to order a stainless steel liner and cap, so it fit well. They ran into a problem when the new liner did not fit. Here, they had to drill out the old flue, so the new one would fit. They had not expected this, but they handled it well. They were not absolutely the cheapest, but they were so professional. I would certainly recommend them.

Two people came 5to the job. One cleaned the fireplace while the other checked the condition of the chimney on the roof. The crew was very professional and I am happy with the service. thanks for the good review. Sorry about the billing issue. On rare occasions when people pay through Angie's list will also bill the client by mistake. I think it happens about one out of every 500 Angie's list customers that purchase online. It's only happened to her three times in the last two or three years. I no once it was indicated clearly on the paperwork but the guys left a bill anyway because they hadn't noticed it on their copy. I'm guessing that another time it might've been that the girls in the office forgot to note it on the work order that went out, so again the guys left a bill. Of course, if anything like that ever happens, we correct the mistake right away and if we've receive a second payment our accounting database will alert us that the invoice has been already paid and a reimbursement check will be sent out immediately. I was contacted within a day or two to set up an appointment. The day before my scheduled appointment, I had to call and reschedule because of work. The ladies in the scheduling department were lovely, and I was able to easily make this change to the following week. I had a service window of 11:30am - 1:00pm, and they arrived at 11:50am. A team of two showed up for the inspection (I think Manny & Diego). They worked very efficiently as a team. I'd never seen a chimney cleaned before, so it was fun to watch. They took care to cover all of the work spaces (I have light tan carpet), and they left no mess. After cleaning, they visually inspected both the interior and exterior (up on the roof) of the chimney. They worked well together, and discussed between themselves what they were seeing. After the inspection, they patiently walked me through their findings. I knew I had some issues, and their inspection confirmed this, plus they found deterioration around the existing chimney cap. They also walked me through all of the parts of the chimney that looked great, that had no issues or concerns. I scheduled to have the follow up services performed the next week. You get a reminder call the day before from the ladies in scheduling reminding you of your appointment. A different team of two showed up. My appointment service window was 8:30am - 9:00am, but the team showed up a little after 9:30am. Again, very respectful of the work spaces, and they left no mess (inside nor outside). They again worked very well as a team, and checked and double-checked with each other. After all the work was done, they walked me through everything that was done, reminded me of the warranties, etc. They showed me how to work the new lever for the chimney flue. Everything was easy and stress free. The price felt fair, and everyone I dealt with was respectful and professional. I would definitely hire them again.
Description of Work: I purchased a chimney cleaning and inspection from Angie's List for $119. The inspection went well, but a few items were noted by the service team. I knew there were issues, and I felt comfortable with their assessment. I scheduled a follow up service for the recommended work. Recommendations included install a new vent flue open/closing assembly (with lever inside chimney) -- the existing flue was broken; installed a flexible chimney cap (outside), and plugged/patched a gap inside the chimney near the opening (which made sense...smoke was escaping into the house).

Every single person that works for us is a really good hearted person and we won't hire anybody that we feel otherwise about. Most of the guys are either related or go to the same church or in someway know each other very well. Almost all of our employees have come to us by the recommendation of someone who already works for us. Leslie, one of our telephone receptionists, had one of our customers suggest to her to call us when she learned Leslie was looking for employment. They were prompt, polite and thorough. They took pictures of any problems they saw, so they could easily explain the repairs they proposed to make. They even brought handouts that explained the type of chimney repairs we were looking at and the visual aids were very helpful. The company came out and did a quick look, as soon as he walked up to my door he said, "I can tell you right now you won't be having your chimney sweep today" He went on to tell me about the major repairs and fixes that needed to be done to my account. He offered to give me an estimate for the repairs. He gave me an estimate for double the amount of work and included some additional work that didn't need to done. He was right about the liner needing to be replaced. He used several scare tactics, including telling me that the chimney may come crashing down on my garage and crush my car. I felt like the company was unprofessional and I wouldn't recommend them.

I appreciate you honesty. The most common review comment we receive regarding sales pressure is that we have a no pressure approach to providing inspection and estimates and that the guys are informative any helpful with their suggestions. When( reading negative reviews, I look to see which of our technicians visited the home to see if the review presents a recurring complaint for that particular employee. Howard was the technition who went to your home. He is one of our best technicians and a very likable person. However, he has a natural tendancy to be dramatic. I have asked him to be conscious of that and he has not received any complaints like yours in quite a while. I think when he saw the poor condition of the chimney and its proximity to your driveway and your car, he got a little exited. It really is just his nature. He is a very interesting and emotionally charged individual. That's what makes him so likable. He doesn't intentionally try to scare anyone. That's just Howard. Catherine, the manager, and I, will remind him to be aware of how his excitability sometimes lands on people. I totally get why you were upset and I appreciate your feedback. Catherine is going to print your review so Howard can read it over. That should help him understand how he is sometimes perceived. As far as what needs to be repaired and the cost involved, I think Howard was right on target. To tear down and rebuild the top portion of a chimney, including scaffolding, hunting down a brick and mortar match, pick up and delivery of materials, disposing of the old brick at a masonry recycling facility & then laying the brick is labor intensive and time consuming. The other portion of his estimate, removing and replacing the chimney liner, is also quite a bit of work. The final part of Howard's estimate, which may be the part you feel doesn't need to be done, is the smoke chamber parging (coating with insulating cement) and installing a top sealing damper is a fairly stanard procedure when relining s chimney. Building code requires a smoke chamber to be parged. We actually have to break out the old damper frame, so when we are done, we install an energy efficient top damper. Some companies use spray equipment to avoid the damper replacement. Though you get a better parging (a thicker, smoother fished product) we can also spray coat your smoke chamber and save you the expense of the top damper. Catherine is going to see about getting you a refund from Angie's for the chimney cleaning big deal you purchased from them, as it was not performed. If you change your mind about hiring us, call me directly and I will put one of our best bricklayers on the job and offer you a conciliatory price reduction. Thanks for the A review and for your comments. Other members mention the same issue from time to time so I know responding to your concern will be helpful to others. I am aware that it "hurts" a little to pay for a cleaning when it may still need repairs before it can be used. I am a home owner and a consumer too and I can appreciate that sentiment. We. as a service company, are in a tough spot. For an example, I just responded to a review in which a customer complained that our crew did not clean the chimney and instead, left an estimate for a major repair. The member accused our employee of scamming them in part, because they believed our crew was dramatizing the need for repair by not cleaning the chimney.! In actuality, When we are called out to clean a chimney, we instruct our crews to do just that. Of course, if our technitions see a chimney is in obvious need of serious repair (which happened to have been the case in the prior example) or the chimney appears not to have been used and our technitions see this before they bring in their cleaning equipment and get set up for the cleaning, they will be ing this to the homeowners attention On one hand, a service call for an inspection, which requires a 2 man crew to carry prepared set up and hold ladders up to 40 feet long costs $75.00 and a chimney cleaning big deal is is only $99.00. It's really not that much different. And, if we do clean the chimney, we get a much better view of the internal surfaces of the firebox, the smoke chamber & the liner. We are trained by the Chimney Safety Institute of America and Certified Chimney Professionals to clean the chimney thoroughly and then we inspect the chimney. It's really impossible to get a good view of a sooted up chimney. I Joe this clarifies this issue of cleaning first vs inspecting first and the associated costs. Dave Myers, owner

American Professional Chimney & Masonry called me the same day I purchased my Angie's List Certificate to schedule the cleaning and gave me a window of arrival. As requested, the gentlemen who showed up gave me a 30 minute window so that I could get home from work to let them in. They cleaned the chimney and went up to the roof to inspect everything. They even texted me pictures from the roof to more clearly explain what they were talking about. They were incredibly friendly and professional and I would use this company again.

The estimate was very professional and courteous. They told me all about the options I had for converting my fireplace from gas back to wood burning and explained them in detail. Arranging the appointment was also easy, and they sent me the estimates for the work over email. All of that seemed like great signs. Unfortunately, things went downhill from there. They had to reschedule the work for a reason I didn't catch (bad phone connection) and called to do so at 8pm the night before. Things happen, but that was the first red flag. The crew then showed up late on the work day, which meant they were working until dark and didn't finish the second chimney. They were very courteous and professional. But while they were there, they asked to use the garden hose to clean their tools. I showed them where it was. Before they left, they said they would come back the next day to finish the job on the second chimney and would leave an invoice in the mailbox. The next day I noticed that the tool-cleaning process had left a big mess on my driveway and that hardened chunks of concrete were adhered to my lawn. I took photographs. It's not permanent but I've never had a work crew leave such a mess behind. At the end of the day there was no invoice. I let a few days go by because, again, things happen. Then we had a windy night and I woke up to find one of the brand-new rain caps had blown right off the chimney and into the front yard. Pretty sure they're supposed to be able to withstand weather. So I called the office back and spoke to the assistant office manager. She put me on hold several times for just a few seconds each, which indicated chaos in the office, and then had to dig around for my file. When she found it, she had no evidence of the crew ever coming back to finish the second chimney. She also claimed they didn't have my email address, which I knew they did since they had used it. I explained about the failure to finish the job, the mess in the driveway, and the flyaway rain cap. She said she would send a crew out the following Monday to finish the job and replace the cap. This time I asked for photographs of all the work and that the crew not leave a mess in the yard. She agreed, and then said she'd found my email address. I expressed my disappointment with all of this and received a very cold and defensive "I'm sorry but all I can do now is send out the crew." Well, you could also offer a discount, apologize before I had to ask you to, and generally work on customer service. The second crew came out and did a good job from what I can tell. They cleaned up the yard and driveway, removed the concrete bits from the lawn, and sent me pictures of their work. The crew boss handed me an invoice before he left and then the company also emailed me one. I'm now nervous about the quality of the work, and this whole process was so much of a hassle that I can't recommend this company.
