American Professional Chimney & Masonry

I received same day service - purchased the deal, received a call within an hour and the men were at my home within 3 hours. Everything went as promised - I'd definitely recommend them!

The gentleman from American Professional Chimney and Masonry arrived on time. I showed him the basement and he inspected it carefully. He explained what might need to be done (e.g., separate circuit for sump pump). I was pleasantly surprised to find out that the basement was in good shape. The house was built in 1917 and part of the basement had been left as crawl space. It was, essentially a cement box full of dirt. The cement had cracked (sealed and recracked after the earthquake) in several places, but did not leak unless there was a lot of rain (like a hurricane). He made some suggestions about removing the crawl space and laying down a floor, which would provide much more storage space. Otherwise, the basement needed no further repairs. A few days later, I received an email detailing what needed to be done to remove the crawl space. While the estimate was fair, I couldn't afford it at the time. However, I would recommend American Professional Chimney and Masonry. Their representative was polite, efficient, and professional. I will certainly use their services again if I need them.

The crew doing the estimate and completing the work agreed to arrived on time (actually early). They worked diligently and adhered to the highest professional standards. The cost of the work was very reasonable, so much so that we did not bother to get more cost estimates.

Update 7/26: Service was a great experience. Brian came right at 1030 at the beginning of my time block. He was very courteous, professional, and got right to inspecting my chimney. He explained various aspects of his inspection and answered all of my questions. I will definitely recommend this company again. He recommended waterproofing and installing a damper. Very upfront about the pricing. The only hiccup was the scheduling detailed below. Getting the appointment for a service was a strange experience. I was able to book the appointment online for 1030, received an email confirmation, then the conversation with Marlo that my appointment is not confirmed. If you only count the inspection today, definitely an A. ------------ I purchased the Big Deal and called American Professional Chimney & Masonry. I initially called to set up an appointment and confirmed the time block of 1030am-12pm for the cap and inspection on Jul 26. No issues with this part. I noticed on Jul 24 that we actually do have a cap already on the chimney, contrary to what our home inspector said. I called Angie's and canceled the Big Deal. I then called the company this morning (Jul 25) to tell them I no longer needed the chimney cap. I spoke with Marlo (sp?) and did not have a professional conversation. It started off fine but I told her that I still wanted to keep my appointment to have my chimney inspected. She said she can't confirm the appointment until 3pm when they finalize their work schedules. I told her that I was confused...which was followed by a sigh from her. I said that I received a time block already from 1030-12pm. She kept on repeating that they don't confirm appointments until 3pm the day prior. Told her I was confused again because I received a verbal confirmation when I made my original appointment. I asked does this mean my time block could change to 330-5pm? If so, I will need to go to another company. She then proceeds to have more attitude on the phone and sarcastically says she'll make an exception just for me and confirm my appointment now since someone from the company already confirmed my appointment. First of all, I am not looking for an exception or put anybody out. I was told when I made my initial appointment of my time block. This would be the ONLY time when anyone informed me that my assigned time block cannot be confirmed until a day prior. Secondly, I understand front office operations can be difficult but leaving customers confused about how your scheduling works and then making them feel dumb on the phone is not the way to go. This could have been so easily avoided. I will update the review after the actual chimney inspection is performed on Jul 26. At this point, I'm trusting Angie's list's reviews and the fact that I want to get my chimney inspection sooner than later.

He was very honest and professional. He showed me where all the problems were and was very honest about the costs of repairing the problems. I would use this provider again.

We chose to use American Professional Chimney after receiving another very high estimate from another chimney company on Angie's List. I booked an appointment for a free estimate on their web site and Steve came out within 2 days to take a look at our stainless steel chimney for our woodstove. The stove smokes alot and does not seem to draw air. The chimney was too low and not up to code. The price was MUCH lower than the other quote we received to extend the chimney pipe. It was ordered and installed less than a week later. We were very happy with Steve and the company. They were prompt and answered all of our questions. Will use them again.

We had a small earthquake on east coast last year and had caused some damage. They came out and made the proper repairs and did a very good job and at a reasonable price.

The cleaning went well. The two employees arrived on time. The lead employee had to remind his assistant to protect my carpets by being careful with cleaning tools and wearing covers on his shoes but overall both were professional and they left my carpet cleaner than when they arrived. The inspection revealed several problems than needed to be addressed. This was a little disappointing. I just purchased the home, built in 1971. I don't have a good idea if the repairs the service man mentioned were actually needed not having any experience with chimneys. Some of them sounded necessary and others seemed to be non-essential but he advised that the building code had changed since my house was built. I have not done the repairs yet because they are costly and I don't plan to use the chimney much. He did offer to use a pole camera and show me what he was pointing out but he advised that it would cost extra.

The initial appointment was convenient and on time--the online booking service was really convenient for us because we work all day. It took three weeks to get an estimate of work, and when I responded by email asking some follow up questions and to schedule the work, and could not get an answer. I called three times and left two messages, and then gave up. We won't be hiring the provider. The only reason I didn't give them an overall F is because the guys that came to the initial appt were knowledgable and professional.

They were so responsive and worked very long hours to ensure my satisfaction. They were excellent to work with.

A very professional job. They arrived on time, kept the area around the chimney clean and completed the project in a timely manner. They also inspected the outside of the chimney and climbed onto the roof to make sure the entire chimney was in good order.

Brian was extremely professional, thorough and informative during the inspection. He also stayed in contact with us to finalize arrangements for the cap. Brian returned to install the cap, and was very careful and neat in performing the work. Unfortunately, a violent thunderstorm passed our area a few hours following the installation, and the adhesive used to fasten the cap came loose. A call to the office the following day was quickly answered and a crew was sent to reinstall the cap. All in all, we are very satisfied with the quality of the work and the professionalism of the field employees as well as Catherine in the office.

The professional performed an inspection of my basement detecting water leaks. Within 2 weeks, he provided a written estimate but did not include much details or cost break outs. I'm still awaiting detailed information.

American Chimney first came out to see the job in March and they misunderstood what I wanted and gave me a quote that I thought was too high. I did a review and was contacted by the owner to see what they could do to help me with my project. I thought that was amazing ! No other service provider has ever called me back. The owner Mr Myers and I discussed what I wanted and he was more than willing to work with me reguarding a fair price along with a date & time to get the job done. Mr Myers came to my house and he did the work....he was on time.......called me prior to arrival .....professional.....knowledgeable.....and cleaned up the area he worked in. I also talked with him about a future job.....I recommend American Professional Chimney & Masonry highly! I'm beyond pleased with their work and plan on telling my friends. Mr Myers also cleaned the whole bricks and left them in a small pile for me. A job well done! GM Routhier

He did a thorough inspection. He gave us a proposal. We have yet to move forward with this project.

They were very responsive. Both time, two men came out. They were very courteous. I would definitely use them again. My interactions iwth their office were suburb. They were very courteous and polite on the phone. Because of the weather, they even came out on a Saturday to take advantage of the sunlight.

It worked out pretty well. They were on time and very quick in assessment. They called in within an hour as soon as we made the big deal to setup an appointment. I would use them again in the future.

I did not need my chimmney cleaned but had it looked at because I wanted it capped. American said they could remove 5 layers of brick and then cap it for an additional $550. I have the slate cap 18x24x5/8" which I bought for $15. I can see paying a few $$ but not a total of $649. They were nice young men but I think their rates were way off.

While the staff in the office contacted me promptly, initially, the communication later went awry. The job was assessed, the workmen were dispatched, and that is where the service went south. The original schedule was changed and when the two workmen arrived on Saturday, they were told by the office that another job needed their attention more, so they left. I had taken the day off to meet them and have this work done. The office said another workman was coming, but I later found they "forgot" my job and no one ever came. The following day, two workmen appeared and tackled the job. While their skills were excellent, they were very rushed as it was Sunday. The job was only half performed and they left quickly. I had chosen this company on reputation and had actually passed over another highly rated group offering two hours of pointing at HALF the price. So what I got was paying twice too much for half the job on a day that really did not suit after I had taken a day off to meet the crew. I am not sure where everything went wrong, but the communication and service in all directions was terrible. There was no follow-up after the job in any manner.

the two young men who came to our house were punctual, friendly, and efficient. they fearlessly climbed up a long ladder to the roof of our tall, 2-story townhouse and attempted to clean the chimney from above. when they realized the flue was too skinny, they clambered back down and used different tools to clean it from the bottom up. they cleaned up afterwards, took the time to explain to us what they had done and the condition in which they found the flue cap, and were out of there in just over an hour. having never dealt with a chimney sweep before, i was impressed by their professionalism and friendliness.

Catherine responded to our inquiry very quickly. She set up a visit within the next few days, and scheduled the actual work for the following week. We had several questions, including some "what-ifs". She was extremely patient, explained everything thoroughly, and gave us plenty of information for us to make informed decisions on the scope of the work. We were contacted regularly to keep us apprised of progress and work schedule. The estimates we received were clear and complete. The crew arrived right around the expected start time each day. They were extremely friendly, courteous and professional. They took the same care in the work as if they were working on their own house. The work was completed on schedule, and the results were beautiful. As most of the work was done on the roof, they even took pictures to show us the results, real-time. I would absolutely recommend them for this type of work.

The work was fine. I had to leave but I had asked them to contact me when the work was complete so I could come home and check the work. I went home around 4 and no one was there. The office administrator emailed me to have me call her right away. She gave us a little bit of a hard time. I told her I had gone home and no one was there. I told her there were things going on that were not fully communicated to me. She was not totally professional in her communication.

The manager, Katherine Willson, treated this project very responsibly. She took at least two days to search throughout Maryland and Virginia to find the matching brick and matching mortar, since we did not have the original brand or model names. Throughout this process, she kept us informed of the progress, as she searched for the material even after her work hours. After that, she organized the team for delivery and installation. The main installer was Edgar Melara, who came with a helper, Fernando Jacome. Edgar Melara is a really highly professional and responsible mason, who really cares about doing the best job possible. He treated the job as if it was on his own property, paying attention to and thinking through all details. Edgar could advise us and answer all questions about the quality, the process, and the future maintenance. By the end of this job, we understood that we can completely rely on and trust Edgar for personalized attitude and quality with any future projects. Employees like the manager Katherine Willson and the installer Edgar Melara make customers want to return to American Professional Chimney & Masonry for new renovation/construction. So far so good. They also did a great job cleaning up after themselves. Polite and fast and responsive to my concerns.
