American Professional Chimney & Masonry

- they did an amazing job fixing the mess I had in the chimney and furnace room. Water had been coming into the room through the chimney which had the raincap removed by the winds and storms last year. The raincap they installed is in solid and I believe it will survive the 50 MPH gusts I get coming off the levee by the river. They cleaned up after the job and I was really impressed with the way they worked - They showed up on time, and although my two dogs tried repeatedly to join them in their work they kept to the job while giving the dogs a pat or scratch every once in a while. They worked quickly and quietly - roof work and masonry isn't what you'd think could coexist with my computer work but all was cool. The guys were great and if I need any additional work this company is the one I will call.

Scheduling the service was a hassle. Date and time were set only to be changed the day before the job. I told the scheduler that I was prepared to cancel the service if they could not comply with their original agreed to date. Somehow the dispatcher was able to work things out and get the service done according to the original plan. When the contractors showed up they came later than expected but apologized for the delay. They got right to work and finished the job within an hour.

I wanted APC&M to come out and give me a second opinion on cracked chimney tiles. The woman on the phone immediately put me on hold to provide me with an estimate for a chimney liner (rather than schedule the appointment as I had requested) and then proceeded to tell me how I should be very concerned about carbon monoxide and I cannot trust my multiple carbon monoxide detectors. According to her, she had carbon monoxide detectors and still ended up in the hospital. She cited the detectors I purchased at Home Depot as the brand to not trust. I understand carbon monoxide is very dangerous, even fatal. I also told her we had the gas company come out 3 days ago and check for gas leaks and CO leaks. She told me that the gas company does not properly check for gas leaks and we were still at risk. I do not appreciate scare tactics as a way to drum up business. I will never use this company.

The technician arrived on time and did a very professional job. I was pleased with the service & would use them again.

Vitaliy & Rudi arrived on time; their cleaning was thorough, professional, quick and clean. Normally, chimney cleaning is a dirty, dusty affair. But these two men kept the dust to a minimum and cleaned up after themselves. I would highly recommend this company for any chimney cleaning. cff

I called American Professional in early September. They sent an estimator to my home on 6 September. He told me his company would send me an estimate. Over two weeks later, no estimate had arrived. I called the company, and they said they would look into the matter and send me the estimate. The estimate arrived via e-mail within a few days of my call. On 6 October, I accepted the parts of the estimate involving the hot tub and mailbox. I did not understand the cost involved in the front steps part of the estimate, so I requested a more detailed estimate on that part. On 14 October, the company contacted me to follow up on the revised estimate. I let them know I had not received it. I got it later that day, and called them early that week to set up a time when the work would be done. I was given a date and time of 21 October at 1 pm. However, no one came. I called the company a little after 2 pm. They assured me they would look into the matter and call me back. I did not hear from them. The next day, at 9:45 am, the estimator (who was also the crew supervisor) and six workers showed up at my door. The supervisor told me he pulled two crews so he could knock off the work before it rained. He told me I should call the office and pay them half the cost of the work. This differed from the written estimate I received, and the office confirmed the down payment was one third. I had to leave the house at 10:00 am. When I returned at 11:30 am, only three workers were present. They were working on the steps; work had not started on the mailbox or hot tub areas. By 12:15 pm, there were still only three unsupervised workers on site, and they had stopped working. They told me they had to stop work because it was raining and the mortar wouldn't set right. I asked them where their supervisor was, and they told me he was on the road. I called the office to explain the problem. The office manager told me she would call the supervisor and get right back with me. Nearly an hour later, I had heard nothing. Fortunately, the rain had stopped and the workers were back on the job. At 1:20 pm, when I had to leave for another appointment, a second truck arrived. The workers were gone by the time I returned home in the evening, and the work area was clean. The supervisor came to my home the next morning. He hosed and brushed the steps and told me all work was done. When I checked the work, I found the mailbox top was mortared on crookedly. I brought it to the attention of the supervisor, who corrected the problem. The supervisor told me the work carries a one year warranty, but the company did not give me that in writing. At this price, considering the hours of work performed, and assuming supplies were charged at $600, the hourly cost of the labor was equivalent to about $60/hour per worker and about $200/hour for the supervisor.

They did a good job. I think the quality is great.

This project was a textbook example of a contractor pulling out all the stops to ensure customer satisfaction. Our choice of contractors was American Professional Chimney & Masonry (also called 301 Chimney). Early on, we had some minor mis-communications with the company and what was entailed in the Angie?s List Big Deal offer, but they quickly sorted that out and worked every step of the way to make sure I got what I wanted. Even without the Big Deal discount, their price was one of the lowest I?d gotten from five or six different companies, and their excellent reputation made them an easy choice. The office manager, Catherine, was friendly, professional, responsive, and kept me fully informed as things progressed from inquiry to contract proposal to modifications to bricks on the sidewalk. The mason, Steve Rodgers, was absolutely superb, and his wealth of knowledge and experience on all things brick related kept me from making a few dumb choices, and resulted in a finished product we?re just delighted with. He searched several brickyards to find exactly the right kinds of brick (not the ones we?d originally chosen, which was a big change, and much to our benefit) explained clearly why each step of the process was necessary, showed up on time with his crew and worked tirelessly, cleaned up completely, and was a pleasure to have around our home ? especially as the project manager! As minor obstacles arose ? and every project has them ? he?d explain how we could work through them to achieve the desired result. He even came inside and re-mortared a loose brick on our hearth (no charge ? woohoo!), and now I can?t tell it hasn?t been that way for years. The day after completion, he returned to do a final masonry wash, which really brought out the brick colors, and was exactly the right finishing touch. We could not have gotten a better outcome! Numerous friends and neighbors have lavished praise on what a beautiful job they did, and what a terrific enhancement it is to our home. I don?t know when I?ll next need any masonry work, but I have NO doubt who I?ll call when that time comes. Thanks so much for a fabulous job!

They called the same day that I requested the service to set an appointment. I was able to get an appointment within a couple of days. The workers called before they came and they arrived promptly. Covers were laid to protect my carpet and they immediately went to work. After cleaning my chimneys, one of the workers went on the roof to inspect the chimney caps and covers. They recommended that I replace the caps with stainless steel in about 2 years because of rusting. I am completely satisfied with the work done and the price.

As indicated, the technicians (Brian and Breeden) arrived between 9:00 and 9:30am. They immediately began the service indicated above and provided pertinent information regarding their observation. At the conclusion of the inspection, I was provided with a detail account of discrepancies that were found. Upon request, I was given an estimate on the cost of the repairs. I will be scheduling a follow up appointment with this company to do the repairs. Absolutely pleased with this company.

They were great - punctual, polite, and clean. The office was very good about calling to schedule the additional work and calling with a reminder the day before.

It seemed to have gone well. Scheduling was very easy and I was able to get an appointment quickly. They recommend some future work that needed to be done on the chimney. I was happy with their service.

Good work, on time, completed work in a timely fashion. Shared cell phone pictures of the work so we could see exactly what work they performed because they were 2 stories up on the roof, nice touch. Professional and I would surely use them again in the future for my chimney needs.

We had to reschedule initially because of rain on our date. Provider was prompt and made the Saturday appt happen. On the day of the appt there were cancellations so we were able to move up our time about 2 hours. Inspection was thorough and quick. We need to have a liner installed and some pretty extensive repair work done but the chimney is operable. The price quote for the work was thorough but I don't feel like they were trying to pressure us to work with them. Will get another price quote to double check before moving forward with the repairs but I was impressed by this company.

The servicemen began to look at the fireplace and chimney and then began to tell me the issues I had with it and what repairs needed to be done. When I said I needed the inspection report before I would discuss any further work, he became adjitated and seemed to just want to leave. He had another crew member come in and begin the fireplace cleaning, but it was an extremely rushed job and since I can't see up the chimmney I have no idea if it was done correct (I can't imagine it was in the amount of time that was spent). Overall I felt like the only thing that mattered was being able to convince me that there was serious problems with the chimney and I was in danger..... I understand that the deals are a way to generate business, and if the experience had been more positive instead of so very blatant, perhaps it would have. I'm still waiting on an inspection report, perhaps I always will be waiting.... 21 Nov 2013 - NOticed the owner said they would provide an estimate as a remark to my original review.....hummmm, still waiting!

I was quite please with this company. They were on time, polite, knowledgeable about chimmney repair, and able to explain what needed to be done in straight forward terms. I am getting a second estimate for repairs to the chimmney but if American Professional Chimmney and Masonry are anywhere close to a competitve price, I will probably select them for the follow-on work because of how they performed on this Angie's Special.

The crew was nice and did a good cleaning job. The identified and gave us a proposal for some repair work, which we are still contemplating. I was not at home when they did the work and assumed a professional outfit like this would have used a video scan to inspect the chimney instead of just a regular visual one. They did not, so that is my one disappointment. I could have/should have asked in advance but I didn't. A prior company a year or two ago suggested I need a liner installed and they used a video scan. I was hoping this inspection would have confirmed (or conflicted with) the prior one, but since it wasn't an equal inspection, I don't have that.

Very well. They were speedy, efficient, clean, and helpful. The bid seemed a bit high, but we are checking on this.

This was the first time I had engaged a chimney sweep. They arrived on time and performed the cleaning and inspection. They made recommendations for changes I could or should make including waterproofing the crown of the chimney, adding a cap and lining the interior of the concrete block chimney with stainless steel.

Awesome job! Right on time, as scheduled. No goofing off, allowing me to get back to work when they were finished. When they found my home was further out than they thought (and harder to schedule), they worked it out. Made preparations to avoid any mess in my home. Professionals from the first phone call until the last man left.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that we purchased. They did their job but the whole thing was kind of an upsell. They did what they said they would do but they were trying to get us to buy more. The quality was fine. They were here when they said they would be. We resented the upsell. We would use them again for cleaning.
