American Professional Chimney & Masonry

We used an Angie's List offer for a chimney inspection since we had not used our wood burning chimney for quite a while and wanted to make sure it was safe. Brian from American Professional inspected the chimney on the inside and pronounced it in great shape. He could have invented a problem and I never would have known the difference, but he was honest and didn't. We had noticed that the mortar between the bricks on the outside seemed to be coming off but didn't mention it. Brian inspected it and confirmed what we thought. They provided an estimate of $3100. We solicited two other estimates and they are all almost identical, though the other companies found two different problems. We checked back with Brian who said that they were not problems that he saw when he inspected carefully and to be suspicious. We chose American Professional and they immediately began trying to find a match for bricks to replace our variegated 30 year old brick. After visiting three brick yards and a salvage company with no luck, they picked the closest match they could get but said they would do everything they possibly could to clean and keep the existing bricks. Rudy and his assistant arrived exactly when the company promised, and spent countless hours carefully cleaning the bricks, storing them, and reusing them. They even arranged them in a slightly dressier pattern. The chimney looks beautiful! They cleaned up everything each day and were really wonderful to work with. We did have a slight problem getting the company to call back at one point, but that was quickly solved and Katherine, the office manager, was very cordial and helpful. We appreciate all the effort made to save the bricks and to make the chimney look perfect!! We recommended them to our neighbor who also chose them and, again, they came on time and have done beautiful work.

We had used American Professional Chimney & Masonry before and just like last time, we were very happy with their services. Scheduling a time convenient for both, us and them, was a bit tricky but they really accommodated us - not typical these days!! Brian and his colleague were very polite and professional. Brian was also incredibly knowledgeable about the specific brand of fireplace insert we have and he gave us really good maintenance suggestions. He and his colleague worked very efficiently and left everything behind as they found it. Brian even fixed a cracked insulation panel in our insert and explained exactly why he used cerwool rather than fireplace cement. He also pointed out a potential repair issue with our chimney but without being pushy! Overall, we were very happy with the guys from American Professional Chimney & Masonry and will certainly use them again!

They were good. They were on time and they were clean. They cleaned up after themselves. They were very nice people. It was a positive experience. Their price was right in line with everybody else.

An all around unpleasant experience -- from miscommunication between dispactcher and service worker to workers who spoke very little English and couldn't understand what was being requested -- and still nothing ever got done. Very high pricing too.

This was an outstanding experience. First of all, Steve came over to provide a quote and had to suffer through my neighbor yelling at us that we were trespassing in their yard. I thought he might run after that, but stuck with me. Catherine, the office manager was very patient as I had to wait for approval to get access to the yard where our row house wall was located. I thought the quote for the work was very reasonable, and more importantly felt like I got great advice about what actually needed to be done. Another contractor suggested we needed to repoint the entire wall - a much more expensive proposition. Steve recommended only the repointing that was needed. The neighbors were concerned about potential damage to their windows that were across from our wall, and Steve was very reassuring in explaining that he would leave the property exactly as it was when he arrived. Steve showed up with another guy and were very nice and professional. They met with my neighbor to explain what would be done, and met with her again after the work was complete to ensure the property was not impacted at all. Steve appeared to be very experienced, and the work appeared to be of high quality. I am very pleased and would hire them again in a hot second. He also gave the neighbor some advice and likely she will use him in the future.

The two man team arrived early during the projected three hour service window and the company had called two days prior to confirm the appointment. Service was fast complete and courteous. The team took exceptional care to protect the work area and traffic ways from debris and finished the work quickly and completely. The inspection included a rooftop level assessment of the external condition of the the fireplace and chimney and the team leader walked my through all his observations to include recommendations for long-term care and advice concerning what to expect in our new home as I described the installation there to him. All in all, a very professional business experience that provided quality service at a fair price.

The scheduler was quite nice - referring me to the chimney sweeping deal that I wasn't aware of, and providing a discounted rate for multiple chimneys since I have five of them in the house. When the technician arrived, he inspected all five chimneys first, and said that only three of them had been used since their last cleaning and he'd recommend sweeping only those ones. (and only charging me for the three that were swept.) He noted a few other items for repair - old crown seal that was starting to separate, and misaligned flue tiles in the chimney. He provided quotes for each item, as well as (at my request) for installing fully-sealing top dampers on all flues. We have not yet pursued the repairs as none were urgent and we had/have a number of more pressing move-in work we want to do, but will likely have the crown seal and dampers done in the near future. The recommended fix for the flue tiles involved installing metal duct in place of the ceramic flue tiles, and was quite pricey - particularly since we have five fireplaces... That'll have to wait, and we may need multiple quotes before pursuing that fix... Overall, it seemed to be good service by a knowledgeable technician, and we have no complaints.

The wall looks great--better than when we moved in. The work was very professionally done. It was done quickly and they were very responsive. Also the staff on the phone were very helpful and friendly. I used this company earlier to clean my chimney, so this is the second job I had them do for me, and will definitely use them again should the need arrive.

We worked with Brian and he was right on time for the the estimate and the work. We got a call a day or so before each part of the work was done. It took three trips becuase we had the cap and pointing done during one trip, the first coat of sealant during the second and the third coat of sealant during teh thrid trip. The workers were polite and easy to work with. The job was throughly explained to us and carried out as explained.

They were very professional. I got a thorough description what was going to happen. They are coming to paint the chimney this spring. No damage to the house or the yard.

The crew was on time and polite. The construction process took two days, and they had to come back a third day to complete the waterproof sealing. Overall, we were generally pleased, but a few problems did arise. First, the re-built chimney was not exactly built the same way at the top as the old one, as the new chimney had fewer brick rows at the top overhanging the rest of the chimney. The specs had stated it would be re-built the same way, and of course by the time we noticed it the cap had already been installed and it was too late to correct it. Also, when the exterior row of the chimney was removed, we were surprised that the inside of the old chimney around the different flues looked like the person who had originally built the chimney had simply thrown bricks in haphazardly with a little bit of concrete, as there were bricks at all different angles, including some standing almost straight up on end. We were assured that this was normal and that nothing needed to be done with respect to the interior, but we were skeptical. The price was competitive with other bids after using a 20% off coupon on Angie's list.

I contacted this provider to get an estimate on deck work. The response time was slow, but not terrible initially. I was told someone from the company would call to schedule the estimate. He called approximately 3 days later. He said he could come the following Monday or Tuesday. It was like pulling teeth to get him to nail down a time (lunch time) and that he would call me in the morning of one of those days. I was never called. We won't be using this company.

Excellent work and very honest company!. Rudy was very meticulous, a true craftsman and very pleasant. Once he started he discovered that the lining was broken and also be replaced which the company did at no extra cost. To top it off, the estimate called for new flashing but when it turned out that mine was in good condition they deducted the cost of the flashing from the estimate. In the end I paid less than the original estimate. Manny and Alexander came a few days later when the mortar was dry to clean up the chimney flue from the inside of the house and they too were extremely careful and professional. Throughout the whole process, the office manager Catherine was a delight to work with and represents the company well. Everything exceeded my expectations!

Judgment was that no problems were apparent upon inspection with a suggestion for further observation if the problem reappeared. Chimney was also cleaned to ensure as further assurance
