While I would love to write a detailed explanation of how dishonest, horrible, expensive, unprofessional, and frustrating this company is, I’m drained from dealing with them. I regret going to Home Depot which contracts with this company. They will try and rip you off every step of the way. They do not communicate with Home Depot. A job that they estimated would take one day and $6000 has turned into a weeks and $1100. The worst thing is that once you are working with them they won’t finish the job unless you comply with all the additional items and labor they claim they need. This whole process has gone for so long, I’m in a bind with time because my tenets are moving in. Their treatment of customers is nothing short of extortion. Never deal with these people.

This was a disaster. Home Depot/American Carpet South did such a bad job that the damage to my property is conservatively estimated at ten times cost of job. They destroyed my driveway by pouring bonding cement all over it. They managed to ruin my built in walkways by tracking cement all over them. Quality was awful. Bonding cement was smeared on everything possible near work area: wall paper, walls, cabinets, countertops, sink,Windows, doors, carpet. They splattered cement on interior of closets like a mud fight. Best part is, it can't be scraped off, walls need to be torn out, doors replaced, cabinets and counters are total loss, carpeting destroyed, hand painted wallpaper ruined. Home Depot/American Carpet South has been great. They said it wasn't their fault. End of discussion. I have been forced to spend thousands more on lawyers just to attempt to have them repair damages. I learned my lesson, I would run screaming before letting them near my house again. Home Depot/American Carpet South has been the worst customer service experience, playing lawyer hardball when I just tried to be made whole. I would have been better off spending twice as much on a real company, saving the nightmare. Even the manager was of no assistance. A terrible customer service experience.

In spite of the traffic in this congested area, the team arrived on time and after courteous introductions, proceeded to remove the old carpet. They worked quickly and efficiently, installing the new carpet without a problem, then cleaned up. I'm thoroughly pleased with the new carpet (purchased at Home Depot and an upgrade on sale) and how great it looks. I would definitely work through American Carpets again. This was a professional team that did a professional job. I couldn't ask for anything more.

The installer arrived on time and notified us when he would arrive. The issue with the installation is that the installer only used a knee kicker for the entire job. This is despite the master bedroom being 20 x 17. Based on my previous experience with carpet installation I knew that the carpet should have been installed using a mechanical stretching device (a power stretcher). I asked the installer why he was not using a power stretcher and he responded that it was only used on big rooms (his example was a 40 x 40 room). I knew this wasn't right. I called HD for resolution. HD called the ACS office. They called the installer. He then came in with a mini stretcher, not a power stretcher. I asked if he even had a power stretcher with him. He admitted he did not. I reviewed the paperwork that came with the carpet. It said that failure to follow CRI (Carpet Research Institute) installation standards invalidated the warranty. The CRI standards state that mechanical stretching device (power stretcher) use is mandatory. I showed this to the installer. He called his boss and let me speak with him. The first thing the supervisor asked me was how the carpet looked. I told him that it looked okay today, but I was concerned about 6 months from now. Improperly stretched carpet will buckle, breakdown and delaminate (according to CRI and my own experience). The supervisor assured me that they would come out later if there were problems in the future. He did not explain why they didn't just install it properly. Finally when he learned that his installer didn't bring the proper equipment to the job, he offered to send the installer back the next day to use the power stretcher. The next day the installer returned and used the power stretcher. Besides having to forcefully insist that the installer use the proper tools and industry standard installation techniques, what I ended up with was a repair, not a proper installation. Once the carpet is installed, absent unhooking all sides from the tack strip, it cannot be properly stretched in. What bothered me most with both the installer and the supervisor was that they both tried to sell me on the fact that what they had done was correct. Absence my knowledge of carpet installation and research of the CRI standards, I might have been convinced that what they did was correct. If they had just admitted they mistake and gone to get the proper tools before completing the improper job, this could have been done correctly. Instead, I now have improperly installed carpet. With this kind of service and skill, I would not recommend using ACS to anyone. Because they are used by Home Depot, I would not recommend buying carpet at HD.
Description of Work: Installed carpet I purchased through Home Depot. ACS was the installer assigned by Home Depot. I had nothing to do with their selection. To avoid this installer avoid Home Depot in Northern VA. ACS installed three bedrooms of carpet and also in the basement. About 1,300 sq ft total.

This was a terrible experience. I ordered a carpet for my bedroom (a rectangular room without any steps or any complexities) and ACS required 5 visits to complete the job (which I am not confident was done correctly either). -ACS installed my padding and carpet, based on the purchase I made at Home Depot. The installer installed both padding and carpet wrong: a) installed the padding incorrectly which causes hard parts to be felt when walking on the carpet. b) installed the carpet incorrectly by stapling it. -ACS sent out a technician to fix the problem. He couldn't fix the problem, requiring a 3rd visit. -ACS sent out two technicians to fix the problem and close the ticket. First off, they arrived later than the expected window of time. Secondly, they also couldn't do the job. This required planning for yet another ACS visit. -I wrote to the company for compensation, which they did do in the form of padding upgrade. -Exactly one month from the first visit, two technicians came out to rip the mistakes from the first installer and put the upgraded padding and new carpet in. On first inspection it looked like they did a good job. Then I realized that the carpet was not secure along the whole floor. The carpet came up and would have easily pulled up during the first vacuuming. I waited and gt;3.5 hours for them to return to the house and secure the carpeting to the floor. They needed to staple it in (despite the fact that this is the wrong procedure) because I assume they cut it too short in the first place and had no choice at that point. ...I am still dealing with this company for fair compensation for a month's BS, 5 visits, and really really poor quality.

ACS was punctual. The crew was very competent, worked very hard, and did and excellent job including cleanup. They were also very quick; they installed carpet in a living room, hallway, two bedrooms, and three closets in 2.5 hours start to finish.
