Can't say enough good things about Jerry. He was meticulous, precise, professional, and accommodating. The entire job took seven working days for him and his assistant, Dave. He arrived promptly every day, was very open to homeowner input and questions, and the finished product was flawless. He did many of the little things (multi layer waterproofing, esthetic layout of tile for a symmetrical look without little pieces, careful sloping of surfaces for proper water runoff, etc.) that others trying to complete the job quicker might shortcut. The cleanup afterwards was very thorough and complete. I'd definitely use them again.
Description of Work: Ripped out an old shower enclosure including, glass, tile, and framing. Built new, larger shower area including framing, durarock, wall tile, and floor tile.

The performance of the J and J team was outstanding. It was an ambitious job involving floor to ceiling tile work, marble benches in the new shower, and full coverage of cement board under it all. Job took about eight days to finish, and the final product was of excellent quality, and J and J's workers were first rate. Getting rave reviews from friends and neighbors, and the other subcontractors working on the project. I would use them again.
Description of Work: J & J served as the subcontractor to tile my comprehensive renovation of an existing master bath in a fifty year old house.

I was very impressed with Jerry's work ethic and professionalism. I feel terrible but I can't remember his assistant's name, so I'll just keep referring to Jerry, but they did work together for the entire two days. (His assistant is a pretty quiet guy.) I will just list a number of things that impressed me. He works really neatly. I had my whole kitchen gutted and installed all new. I had the least clean up to do after Jerry left, compared to all the other contractors who worked on the job. He makes sure things are done RIGHT. For example, part of the border was already on the wall (with the listellos beneath to support it) when we decided where the outside strip would be cut off. As it turned out, the last listello would only be about 1.5 inches long. Rather than leaving a goofy looking little piece on the end like that, Jerry pulled out all the listellos he'd already placed, started from the middle and cut the pieces to make sure they were symmetrical. I'd asked him to install the travertine chair rail around the circumference of my whole powder room. He said that would stay in place unsupported AS LONG AS NO ONE LEANED ON THE TIILES when they got up from the toilet. He made a special trip to Home Depot (about 45 minutes each way from my house) to buy a special brace/support that could rest under the bottom rails yet not be seen. Perfect solution to a potential problem. I think there were times when I tried his patience (actually, I KNOW I did) by asking him to switch things out. I tried to make light of it and remind him that he asked me to stay! But, in any case, he was always very professional and patient ... and successfully implemented ... all my requests. I called another tile place in Calvert County and she was pretty rude when I said I had my own tile and I just wanted to pay for the labor of installation. Jerry will do just the labor for you or he can order and pick up tile for you. (I think he actually prefers to do just the labor because he has to go to Virginia to pick up the tiles.) So, if you have your own tile and are afraid to put it in yourself, Jerry is the guy for you! All in all, I would definitely recommend Jerry to anyone who has a tile job. He does beautiful work. Oh, and I forgot to mention, he only has one arm! His right arm is missing from about the elbow, and he might introduce himself with something like, and quot; They call me Lefty. I guess you can see why.and quot; So don't be surprised. My husband was dubious that he could do the job with just one arm but, believe me, he can and does!
Description of Work: Jerry and his assistant installed a gorgeous marble mosaic border for my kitchen backsplash and a travertine border for a chair rail in my powder room. The work took a bit over two days. I paid $500 per day plus a bit for materials. I had already found GORGEOUS tile from a place in Florida. The 150 feed of mosaic tile border had been made for a custom swimming pool and then the contract fell through. So I had gotten an incredible deal ... but still spent a good chunk of change ... on this gorgeous tile. I'd spent enough that I didn't want to mess up the job buy trying tiling for the first time myself. Having watched what Jerry had to do to get the tile set correctly, I definitely made the right decision. The job was fairly complicated because the tile border was made in a continuous strip and then cut. It fit back on the walls like a jigsaw puzzle ... except that I'd cannibalized a piece and added strips to the sides ... and the cannibalized strip turned out to fit into the left side of one of the strips that he needed to use. There was a medallion for over the range and Jerry had to measure everything quite precisely and have his assistant cut the subway tile exactly so to fit it in correctly. He always made sure that the tilework was symmetrical, which I appreciated because I am really detail oriented that way. Because of the number of decisions that would need to be made during the installation process, Jerry asked me to stay home for the first day. I'm really glad I did. This way I got everything exactly as I wanted it.
