Len The Plumber, LLC. is a leading plumbing and drain company serving Central Maryland. Our certified professional plumbers are available same day to assist residential customers in Anne Arundel County, Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Carroll County, Cecil County, Harford County, and Howard County. Our knowledgeable plumbers have years of experience dealing with a wide variety of plumbing issues including plumbing repairs, drain cleaning, water heaters, well systems, heating systems, sewer, water, and gas lines. We’re open 7 days a week with no extra charge on evenings or weekends!

"On the positive side, the plumber himself (Mr. Ralte) was great. He was courteous, efficient, competent and friendly, and he cleaned everything up nicely. If I were just giving a rating for him I would give 5 stars. Unfortunately, I can't do that for the company overall. My biggest complaint is that the $591 charge for a simple 25 foot snaking of the drain seems exorbitant. I'm actually annoyed with myself now that I agreed to it, but I had already waited 3 days to be able to use my sink and it was too late afternoon for me to get anyone else out that day. In fact, they started with an estimate of $900 (not based on any detailed inspection, just on the fact that neither the sink nor the dishwasher would drain). I actually had the feeling that Mr. Ralte was a bit embarrassed about this estimate, because when I pushed back he immediately offered to try to get me a discount. He went out to his truck for a few minutes, came back and said they had agreed to come down to $591. This seemed like a very arbitrary amount, perhaps aimed at making me feel like at least it was under $600. Still, I was so sick and tired of waiting that I agreed to this, even though I regret it now. The whole visit took slightly over 1 hour, and it turned out that all he really had to do was detach the pipe from the wall, use the regular snake (not even the "super snake") for about 15 minutes, and re-attach the pipe. Then he poured a bottle of (my) bleach down the drain and it was done. Aside from the cost, my first appointment (Sunday 2-5 PM) was a no-show (I got a call 4:45 to say no one would be coming -- too late to try to find someone else). I know this happens sometimes, and (even though it had been predicted), it's not their fault that we had 7 inches of snow overnight so they couldn't come on Monday. But I had to call them on Tuesday morning to confirm that I was on their schedule (11 AM-2 PM), and then called again at 3 PM, only to be told that they hoped they could get someone there that day. After I protested about this, they finally agreed to send someone right over and Mr. Ralte showed up about 45 minutes later. I would rather not have said I would not hire them again, since I don't like to burn bridges, but the review form forces you to choose either Yes or No, and I'm really not inclined to say Yes..."

With over 40 years of experience in septic tank installation and service, Eagle and Son Septic Service is a family business, consisting of the owner Nathan Eagle, his son, and a good friend, who's just like one of the family. Nathan got started in the business at 15 years old when he was offered a job in the septic industry. 10 years later, in 1987, he started his own business. More than 40 years later, he is an expert in the field and focuses his experience on providing a personal and personable relationship with each customer.

"Nathan Eagle was wonderful to work with. I had quotes from other companies including one that gave me a multi-page contract with all kinds of exceptions so one really didn't know the final price, and then I received a quote from Eagle. Gave me understandable quotes that included all I needed. Due to our new septic not being at least 100' from our well, he changed his quote to install a BAT septic system per Baltimore County. His second quote was more than I wanted to spend, but the county had a grant program with funding available that paid for most of the cost of the new tank and its installation. He was usually available when I called or texted. A hard-working person who's actually hands-on."

Sewer cleaning services FAQs

In most states, companies that perform sewer cleaning services don’t need specific licensing, but you should always ensure you hire a licensed and certified plumber to get the work done. You can use our state licensing tool to check whether the potential sewer cleaning company holds a plumber’s certification and license. Hiring a certified sewer cleaning services guarantees that the work will be done safely, there won’t be additional damage done to your home, and the problem will be fixed.

The average cost to snake your main sewer line is around $250 for a simple snake. Most sewer line specialists charge between $45 and $200 per hour for main sewer line snaking, so the time involved plays a major role. The price you’ll pay will depend on the severity of the clog, the item causing the backup, how long it takes to remove the item, and more. A more severe issue that requires unclogging a main sewer line will cost $3,100 on average.

There are a few signs of a clog in your main sewer line that you should keep in mind.

Common signs of a sewer line clog:

  • Multiple fixtures in your home drain slowly

  • Drains in your home gurgle during or after draining

  • Water backs up into your sewer line cleanout

  • You notice foul odors in your home

The best way to confirm that your main sewer line is clogged is to hire a professional plumber to assess the situation and use a camera to inspect the inside.

In most cases, drain cleaners will not clear a clogged sewer line, and they’re likely to damage your plumbing. Sewer lines are several inches wide, meaning any material that clogs it will need to be large. Drain cleaner can work on small clogs, but it usually won’t clear a larger one in a sewer main. Drain cleaners can also easily damage and corrode your plumbing with prolonged contact, and a clog will keep the cleaner in contact with the pipes for an extended period. Hire a professional sewer cleaner instead for a safe fix.

You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.
