I called the company on 2/28 and scheduled an appointment for 3/1 in the afternoon. My husband took the afternoon off to meet the tech at the house. The tech, Bryan, arrived right before he would be late (close to 4) and tried to sell my husband 2 springs instead of one. My husband stated we only wanted one spring and then the tech told my husband he couldn't fix the garage door that day as he didn't have the right materials. We rescheduled for the company to return on Monday afternoon, but we should have looked for another company instead. It should be a good sign that if a company arrives without basic parts, they really aren't interested in fixing the problem. We went all weekend without the garage and having to shuffle the cars around. On Monday, 3/4, another tech, Alan arrived (right before he'd also be late; close to 4). Alan didn't understand why Bryan didn't fix the door Friday and complained about Bryan being a new tech and not professional and that Bryan probably just wanted to get off early. Alan also tried to sell us 2 springs instead of one and when I resisted, he went into listing off what I'd have to pay for as if it were a burden. I should have asked for a written quote at that point and then consulted with my husband, but I didn't. Alan fixed the spring and cables on the door. The spring alone cost $233. I called the company while Alan worked on the garage and got the $49 service fee waived since we already had wasted the day on 2/28. Alan didn't offer the discount even though he continued to complain about Bryan and his unprofessional behavior. Alan also said the parts would carry a 3 year guarantee, but the receipt he gave me said 1, so I asked him to change it and he did. Alan tried to assure me that the company is committed to making it's customers happy, but I felt as if the cost of the service and the parts was much too high. UPDATE: I wrote the comment above on both the company website and Angie's list and the owner, Harry, contacted me right after I posted it. I spoke to him and he apologized for the experience we had on the first day and agreed that the door should have been repaired the first time. He offered to send us a portion of the funds back and sent the check that same week. We appreciate that he respected the time we lost and offered compensation for it. Therefore, I changed my Responsiveness rating from D to C and my Overall Experience rating from D to C. As for using them again, I'd do research with other companies first to see about costs, and then possibly call and speak with a manager at Precision directly before using them.

They did a good job. They were punctual. They did the work as they said they would and they did a fine job. They were a little bit pricey but what they did, they did it well. I would probably not use them because I found somebody that I liked better.

They showed up on time. They did the work they were supposed to do. They left.
Description of Work: Did garage tune up and also fixed a problem I had with the door which was extra. That was to be expected. The repair price was higher than I would have liked but I did not want the hassle of scheduling another repair later and shopping around because of the hassle and the service charges for another visit, etc. However, they were very professional, punctual and communicative. I would use them again.

After many positive reviews on Precision Garage Doors Inc, I was expecting much more than what I actually received. I needed a fresh install for an opener on my left garage door. First off, the customer service phone representative did not have the appropriate level of knowledge to represent my request. He also couldn't answer basic questions such as what type/model of Garage Door Opener I would be receiving for the price point I was quoted on. This was red flag #1. I decided to schedule an appointment anyway to get the job done as I was relying on the positive reviews at this point. A day before my appointment, Precision called and asked if I could push the appointment back to an earlier time slot due to "shortage of technicians", which I agreed to...no big deal. On the day of the appointment, they came within their time window. This was the only thing positive about the visit, it all goes downhill from here. When we went into the Garage, the technician immediately cursed and said that he didn't have the materials needed with him to do the install. He stated that on the ticket, ?Garage Repair? was noted not ?Fresh Install?. He then proceeded to tell me that I needed to indicate this on the original order, as if this error was my fault. At this point, I wanted to know what my options were and I asked if he could go back to get the tools needed for the job, he immediately stated ?No, my offices are in Laurel? but they offered to make a ?phone call?. After the call, he stated the best they could do is re-schedule the appointment for Monday morning and that they could do the install without me being present at the home. I asked for the name and number of a manager to speak to and he declined to give it to me. The tech provided excuses such as ?They are in Florida? or ?Call our general customer services number for that?. Long story short, I ended up going with a different company that performed the install the same day and without a scheduled appointment! To top it off, the other company was over $200 less than Precision. After this experience, CONSUMERS BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. They blame the customer for errors, are highly unprofessional, and are OVER-PRICED.

Thank you for your comments. We use customer comments to help improve our relationships. As you can see from our many comments, we are highly regarded by our customers. We service tens of thousands of doors annually, with customers being extremely happy. occassionally, we have technicians call out, and other techs must cover. Every once in a while the tech does not communicate effectively, and we re-train. We are not perfect, and are constantly updating our training. Our customer service center does a great job with customers. HOWEVER, they are not in your garage, and cannot see what is wrong or inspect the other parts. Our technician should have had the part on his truck, and could have called the owner. We will remedy that.

Description of Work: Someone named Alan came to provide the routine tune-up to one of our garage doors. He installed the new keypad as promised in the Big Deal. He was GREAT! Extremely professional and courtesy. Explained everything in layman's terms. It was an educational experience as well as a business deal. Would ask for this specific technician again for sure!

I called to schedule a garage door tune up and have them install a new garage door opener I had already purchased. The Technician showed up within the timeframe promised but without even looking at the door or opener stated that I should replace the door because it was old. To be fair, it is old but it is still in great shape with no rust of other damage. When I stated I was not going to do that he suggested a full rebuild and stated the springs would bind, they were rusty and they were original. The springs are not original and the door does not bind. I asked about the installing the opener and I was told it cost $225 to install the opener I purchased. This was more than what the opener cost. Kind in mind I bought the opener and it was replacing one of the same brand. It was clear he was only interested in selling additional services and not just doing what was needed or requested. I would not recommend this company to anyone; nor will I ever contact them again.

The opener you were replacing was worn and broken because the hardware on the door was badly worn and put extra strain on the opener. We gave good advice, but you, the customer, chose not to have this work done. We are highly trained and repairs thousands of doors a year, and our knowledge is valuable in assuring you that a new opener installed will last through updated hardware.

I purchased the Angie's List deal for two doors ($129 a piece) = $258 on Feb 5th after calling Precision Garage doors to find out their availability and how many coupons I would need. I needed two since I have two single car garage doors. I made an appointment for the 6th (the next day) while I was on the phone with the customer service rep, who was very helpful and waited while I purchased the Angie's List coupon so I could give her the coupon codes. I was told that the service rep would call 30 minutes prior to arrival, with an estimated arrival between 3-5pm, which was fine, that would give me enough time to get home prior to their arrival. The service man showed up 30 minutes before the window, no call before hand. I ended up giving him the automatic garage door code so he could look at the doors and begin replacing the rollers. I drove home while he was finishing looking at the doors (had already replaced the rollers). He then informed me that all the springs and pulleys needed to be replaced as well as safety wires for OSHA standards needed to be installed. The quote for all the work was about $900. I don't remember the individual prices except for the safety wires which were $90 per door. These safety wires were nothing more than braided steel cables that had been secured on either side a wire clamp on the top and a bolt into the wood surround for the door on the bottom. There's no way that costs $90. The parts maybe cost $20 total for all 4 doors. I've read other review responses where Precision doors replies with "we use quality parts". That may be, but there's no way it costs $90 per door. I expressed my concern to the repair man, but he told me that the prices were fixed. He did give me a slight discount for the springs ($20 per spring). But at ~$100 per spring for 4 springs, it didn't feel like I was really getting a deal. What made it worse was even though I was asking a lot of questions after the repairs were finished (about 2hrs total time), he didn't explain/summarize what work he did or found. I even had to point out that he had not adjusted the tension on either of the garage doors (I had adjusted both to the max because they were having difficulty shutting and would often re-open). So he then reduced the tension at my inquiry. Makes me wonder what else was missed with the supposed 25-point safety inspection. Now that I know what is involved with the garage repairs I'll be doing them in the future. The main reason I wanted a professional to inspect the doors was that the tracks were bent and I wasn't sure why the doors were having issues closing, but I have no idea since he didn't tell me whether or not they were, he just mentioned that the springs made it easier to close. Honestly, I feel ripped off. Sure, 2 hours is a decent amount of time to spend on the doors, but the parts seemed expensive (well at least the "safety cables" were) and since I don't really know what I got for my money or whether or not the inspection was properly performed I can't say whether or not it was worth it. Certainly $129 was a lot to pay for rollers, roller installation and a safety inspection that may or may not have taken place since he missed the tension of the door, so I don't think he tested the door coming back up in the event there were something underneath the door. The doors close properly now, and are a little quieter (most of the noise comes from the motors, which won't be corrected by quiet rollers). The other thing, he made it so that now both of our garage doors open using the keypad that we already had. Without asking. This is NOT my preference. I'll be calling to find out how to change that, because the keypad is used frequently, we don't need to open both doors each time. Overall, I'm disappointed, and out $1200 for something that I probably could have done for $400 or should have paid maybe $600 for.

Originally looking to do a tune up of the garage door opener. Noticed the chain was starting to sag. The appointment was made without issue, and the technician arrived on time. Then the bad news... the main gear/sprocket shaft was bent. We discussed the options, but given the age of the opener, decided to simply replace with new opener. Opted for a belt driven model to keep noise down. The replacement had to be rescheduled etc. As with the first visit, the second appointment occurred with no issue. The new opener comes with a 10 year parts guarantee. And if lasted as long as the first one, we'll be fine.

The gentleman that came out to do the work was very accommodating, trying to sell me couple of things of course which I didn't need but was probably a good thing because the door is in pretty good shape in spite of its age and he did the job and I've been pleased with it and I thought it was just fine. Be sure you know what you want them to do before they show up.

We called on New Years Day with a broken garage door and were astounded when a live person answered the phone! They offered to send a technician out the next day but because of work schedules we put it off a few days. The technicians arrived on time and assessed the problem and gave me a detailed explanation of how they would fix it and the cost involved. They were very professional and worked outside in the bitter cold without complaint. They had me inspect the work before I paid and gave me a guarantee. I am giving a B on price because my husband said it should have cost much less but I think you are purchasing their professionalism with that price.

We called Precision, someone came to our house the next day and when over all the options with us. We placed an order and waited for about a week and half. Precision scheduled an installment date and within about 15 to 20 mins, my garage door was working even better than it was before.
Description of Work: We used Precision Garage Doors, Inc to replace a part of our garage door that was damaged by a small accident with our vans. I was very impressed with Precision when they followed up with me. The day of the installment, the tech got sick. Instead of Precision rescheduling the appointment, one of the mangers from the company came out and completed the job himself. Wow! I was even more impressed with that. This is company you'd like to use.
