It was what it was. The driveway was fairly large. I shouldn't have expected more than I'd hoped for. The driveway had oil stain spots on it when I purchased the house. I had concerns that it would bleed through the coating. The point of coating it was to try to lock them down. I have children that want to play in the driveway. The gentleman said he would use flame or heat to dissipate the oil before it was sealed. They were not successful. It bled through again. You can't ask for Ferrari and pay for a Honda. If your driveway is all cracked up and you think seal coating is going to fix it, it isn't going to happen. Seal coating is maintenance.
Description of Work: I used a big deal purchase for All State Paving. It was $169 for driveway seal coating. I paid extra for the additional square footage.

Cant' give details. We thought seal coating would be filling in all the huge cracks, then covering all that. As it was, it was just a shiny glaze over whatever was there. We need someone to come in and take care of the crater-like cracks everywhere, then put a coat over all of that. We might even need part of the driveway as it abuts the carport to be jack-hammered out and re-graded. So really, I guess the company did what they said they were going to do, but we need much much more.

I spoke to All State Paving on April 9th for an estimate to have the asphalt apron of my concrete driveway replaced. After I described the job, the woman on the phone told me that the job was too small for them to bother with. She then proceeded to ask me how many more estimates I planned on getting for the job. When I told her that I already had one from another company, she advised me " to not get too many estimates because that was just too confusing". I am happy for All state Paving that their business is so good that they can afford to turn down small jobs. But, who in their right mind advises someone to not get too many estimates? I can't believe this company is so highly rated on Angie's List if this woman is still allowed to talk to customers in that manner.

Adam was quick to respond with an estimate that was very competitive. Scheduling was weather dependent, but he communicated throughout the snowy weeks and never kept us guessing. He was the only person that recommended putting some retainment lumber on the driveway edge where there is a slope, and it seemed to me to be an excellent idea. Also removed concrete pad at front door that was sinking, creating a too high step into the house. All work completed in 2 1/2 days. Clean up wasn't perfect, but was very good. One thing I hadn't planned on was the need to repair and re-seed lawn adjacent to driveway (I am not implying that they messed up anything; just that I hadn't thought about it in advance). Adam and his crew were friendly and easy to deal with. I would absolutely recommend them.

It went perfectly. My older driveway actually needs replacing, but I am not in a position to do it; however, snowplow damage resulted in potholes causing tire damage, and the driveway had some uneven parts that were not safe to walk on. I explained this to Adam, who was very understanding, and told him that I only planned to live in the house another two years or so and did not have the funds to replace the entire driveway. Adam told me that he would be in this area a week later, and would repair my driveway when he finished that job; at around noon. He pulled up at exactly noon, and he and his team went to work with the same energy and passion as if they were doing an entire new driveway. They worked diligently and carefully cutting away the damaged parts rather than just covering them up,and were just as exacting as if this had been a huge expensive job (for which I was very grateful.) Often, people do repairs quickly and casually, not taking the care they would with "major surgery". Not true of this company! They were here for over three hours, cleaned up beautifully and were polite and personable.

Adam, the owner of the company contacted me with in 24 hrs of my inital request for quote that I filled out on his website. He gave me a very resonable quote. There were some unavoidable weather delays, so Adam called me and let me know that there was a delay. He contacted me when the weather was operative, and set up a day to come out. The team showed up right on time and completed the job quickly. The driveway looks great, and the yard was cleaned up great. I would use them again.

The entire process went very well. We are now 8 months into the new driveway and it appears to be holding up well so far. The only "complaints" I have with the service are minor. The first is that the job took 2 days instead of 1 as origianlly thought. This probably could have been avoided with better planning. The second is a minor lack of attention to detail. My 820' driveway provides access to several other houses. As part of the job they paved a 2' apron into each of the existing houses' driveways. These aprons (especially at the house that had 2 side-by-side) could have been measured and planned a little better to make them symmetric and improve appearance. Instead they were just eyeballed, leaving a lack in aesthetics.

I am very please with the result of the work done. Adam ( owner ) told me. My driveway will last 10 to 15 years. I want to believe him. But, only time can tell. Here is the story, why I choose All State Paving. I got 4 job estimate. Two of them recomended remove old driveway, regrade and level. One cost $2800, other cost $3000 to $3200 depending on the amount of work need to regrade and level. Third cost $2250. Do the same work as All State estimate. After all the estimate came in and spoke to all parties. I decided to go with the remove the old driveway and do the work right the first time. So, I don't have to keep repairing in the future. Just before I hand over the dough. I decided to give a final call to Adam address my concern about the unforseen repair. He told me without removeing the old drive, has some advantage. My driveway had been settle for 21 years. It is not going to move now. Also, my driveway has a 5 degree slope. The old driveway had pull away from the foundation created a 1 inch space. By removing the old driveway. I may run into the same problem in the future. Now, you know why I awarded the job to All State. Because Adam take the time to give me the information for me to make a decision and save myself some dough. One final point, everytime I call. No one ever answer the phone. You have to lease a message. Eventually, he will call you back. You have to be patient. Of course, he can hire a secretary to answer the phone. Then, it will reflect in the price. The third estimate ($2250) had a secretary. Thank for reading! I hope it will help you!

I already had another provider that I was ready to hire until my wife called me to let me know a neighbor was getting his driveway done and that I might want to try calling All-state just for another estimate. I already had five of them but I figured what the heck. I called them and left a message. I got a call back within an hour or so - I was impressed with the responsiveness. Aaron said that he would come out the same day. I called my mother and neighbor who share the driveway and were to share the expense to put them on alert that Aaron would be stopping by. I wanted Aaron to talk with them to make sure we would get an apples to apples quote with the other contractors. I got a call around 6pm from my mom that no one came by. I called Aaron who said that he went to the job site and had an estimate for $2,800. However, there was no mention of any concerns with the property such as potential water issues due to uneven grading from the neighbor to my mom's house. All the other contarctors had called this out either verbally or in writing and talked about a simple plan to address which is common and not a big deal in this business. Since there was no mention about it from Aaron, I figured this is not a big deal but just part of the proposal. However, i did call or email him and mentioned this cocnern and he gave me a "yeah-yeah as if he noticed it. I also thought that it was unusual that no one saw him on the property and both my mother and neighbor are busy bodies" who notice anyone coming to their properties. he had metnioed to me that his jobs range from $X dollars (don't recall low range to $2,800), which I thought was unusual to give that range without seeing the job site. I mistakenly ignored this and just went along. Aaron came back with a quote of $2,800 (which is what I expected - high range). The reason I chose Aaron was because he had lots of good reviews on Angie's List. On the morning of the job, I get a call from Aaron that there is more work invovled than he thought and that he will need an extra $700. I was shocked and offended and he held all the marbles because when I had indciated that this was not acceptable or right, he said that I owed him $1,000 if he left without doing any work, which I understand in a way but was p***** off that he had us in a vice grip. Nonetheless, I balked and he countered back with $400, which I had agreed to avoid any strain on my mom and neighbor with this ordeal. My mother is 79 years old. This had gone from what i thoughts was a good decision to a bad decision. I thought this was outrageuous as he's bargainign with me as if I'm in a used car dealer lot - Very unprofessional. Worst of all, he said that he needed to do more grading due to potential water issues, which I already knew about and so did every other contractor who came to visit that provided an estimate. They recognized it immediately and had a simple plan on how to deal with it. I was essentially being asked to pay more for something that was not scoped out during the estimate. I told Aaorn that i suspected that he didn't even inspect the driveway when he wrote the stimate. He may have done a drive-by on the street because he seemed to be surprised by what he found. Furthermore, the proposal included the use of 15 tons of RC-6, which he decided wasn't needed. While a low cost ticket item, he did not take that off of our incremental $400 charge, which I thought was a bad gesture. Bottom line, I got a good job in the end but anyone could have done the same job or better without the hassle and hardship of having to go through the ordeal of being asked for an additional $700 on the day of the job. It wasn't our fault that the job was not priced right. There was lots of back and forth, but ultimately I told Aaron that I understand that sometimes unforseen problems arise but this was so basic that it should have been factored in at proposal time. Furthermore, there was just more labor involved which was already there on site. - he didn't use more materials. he said that he used more asphalt but I don't see how that's possible because it's contradictory to why he says he charged me more. Too many details to include but this is the gist of it. In a recent phone call, Aaron inferred that he was partly justifying the higher price because it was hotter than usual out and his truck had a blown tire that morning as if I control those things. He also said he had to incur costs to tear up some pipes. These were plastic non-functional tubing to help redirect water - the kind you buy at Home Depot. The other contractors noticed this and didn't indicate they would charge me extra but Aaron did.I couldn't make this stuff up folks. You go judge. if you want more details, please send me an email and I'lll be glad to fill you in. At this point, I'm moving own and hope i don't need to use the 1-year warranty. The lesson learned is to always make sure that you are onsite with the contractor - don't trust them to properly scope out a job alone. Also, don't rely on Angie's List alone as each situation is unique.

Response from All State Paving
I apologize that you were upset with the way this project went down. The job is installed correctly and met your satisfaction. In fact in your review you mention that you got a good job. Unfortunately we are all human and mistakes happen. There are times we get on the actual jobsite and set level and grade and find out it is somewhat different than what we noticed at initial inspection. We do our best at trying to avoid situations like this but lets face it nobody is perfect. We have well over 100 reviews on Angies List and service approx 600 new customers every year, i would be lying if i said every project goes off without a hitch. Like we explained after we got onsite it was realized that mmore grading was needed. You AGREED to additional payment of $400 to the extent that you gave us credit card authorazation. To say that the labor is already on site makes no sense. If a vehicle is being repaired and the shop finds that more labor was needed to correct a problem my response cant be "you already have mechanics in the shop, so how is there more labor" We do our best to honor all of our quotes, unfortunately there was a need for an added cost. By no means did we get over on you and feel everything was handeled in a fair manner also this price increase was agreed on by you. During our phone conversation you mentioned you were "Cool" with how things were handled then turn around and write a 5000 character review. This has me scratching my head. I hope that there our no hard feelings over this and apologize that you are disappointed.
