AJR Heating & Air Conditioning

We bought an Angie's list Big Deal for the furnace and A/C inspection. We got an appointment pretty quickly (within a week). Technician was prompt, fast and professional. He inspected the heat/AC and flushed the AC line. We also had the freon refilled based on the results of the inspection and within minutes, nice cold air was blowing through our house. Yay! The technician also pointed out some things we'll want to watch out for with our aging HVAC system. I had the opportunity to ask a lot of questions, and he was very informative. I wasn't sure how to rate the price of the freon refill--usually I compare 2-3 estimates, but in this case thought it worth it to have the AC fixed right away, so I don't know how this compares to other companies' pricing.

James (the reps name) came out and provided a very thorough inspection. He pointed out details that probably would've escaped my attention and gave us a realistic no nonsense estimate. The estimate was provided within a day (MUCH sooner than the others that came out). This company seemed to genuinely want my business and it showed through their professionalism. Although we couldn't afford to have the work done right away, we will be having them come out to perform the work soon. Highly recommended.

although refunded $200.00 for dents on the Water Heater, the tech should not have installed the dented Water Heater, and instead, should have ordered a new one (replacement). Copy of the Written and signed Service Agreement has not been provided by the provider of service, as of this writing.

Overall the installation went well, technicians arrived as scheduled, but it turned out that due to other commitments within the company, the installation team was actually one installer and one maintenance tech (that commented he normally does not do installs). The guys were professional in demeanor, but I sensed some communication issues between the two and those became evident later. After the install, the AC worked well, the issue revealed itself when the winter months came and the system did not switch to heat and relied on the auxiliary electric heat coils costing me several hundred dollars in electricity costs. Once I realized what the issue was I called and they sent a tech out to assess the issue, turns out a valve was not correctly installed, the valve was replaces, but the brazing was sloppy at best. Another tech was dispatch when I complained about the job and that system was now having condensation problems, the next tech did a good repair job and the system was working fine for a while. Just before the warrantee expired the system stopped working entirely, tech was dispatched in short order and identified an issue on the controller board. He wanted to replace the entire controller assembly but was overrulled and was directed to just replace a relay. This corrected the problem and it has been working fine for the past year. I am having them come out to perform preventative maintenance this year. I gave the 'C' grade due to the two workmanship issues. Even though I had some issues, I still like this company, they have always left the impression that they want to do right be me, the customer. When I had the issues, I received follow-up calls from Jim or his assistant, to make sure that I was satisfied, this is not a perfect world and I understand that things happen on complex systems, so the follow up is why I continue to use their services.

I called because our furnace fan was not working and we were getting a smell of a burning hair dryer or electrical wire. We called about 6 competing firms, who all answered and said they would page support. When HVAC and Arundel HVAC called back and couldn't make it until the morning. Because of the snow coming and cold temperature I called A.J.R. who said they would come, came and after taking the lids off and testing found the fan was going and binding up. He said we needed to buy a new one but he didn't have it on his truck. We will call When who sold the unit and provides support in the morning to make sure When continues support. However, A.J.R. tried and we greatly appreciate the quick and good support late at night.

Woke up this morning (a Sunday!) and it was less that 60 degrees in the house. Fearing that our old heating unit was no more we found AJR on the list and gave them a call at 8a. The technician was very responsive, gave us an estimate of time and arrived early. Very friendly, professional and helpful. He turned our bad Sunday start into a great end.

Had the part installed on the spot.

I had a leak so coolant was being released from my air conditioner. It is the coolant that is now banned from use so it was going to be very expensive to put new freon into the system. We worked through various options and in the end decided that it would be best to replace the unit. I did get a second opinion from another company and got the same answer, but with more difficulty and at a higher price. AJR also replaced my furnace earlier in the year and it was a similar experience with knowledgeable team members giving me information that helped me make the right choices. They are punctual and do very high quality work- I'd highly recommend them.

I got 3 estimates for a new A/C and furnace, as ours was 16 years old and very inefficient. AJR was the lowest, beating Sears by half. I told them what I was looking for and they provided 4 detailed options. Once we decided on the unit, they arranged a date for installation. I only had to wait about a week for them to come and install. They arrived on time and were professional. They laid coverings on my floors and carpet. They removed all the old equipment and had to wait a little while for the manufacturer (Trane) to deliver the new units. AJR finished the install in less than their estimated time and everything has been working very well. We have hardly run the new heater (even though the temperature has been down in the thirties at night) because it's so much more efficient than the old one. The A/C cools much more effectively, as well. I would recommend them to others.

The service was outstanding. We have been using them for years for years and have never had a problem. They go out of their way to make sure the customer is happy. We have also found that their prices are in the same ballpark as other but you get a lot more from them. They are also courteous and never try to gouge you. I would recommend them to anybody.

Same day estimate, were prepared to install next day. We wanted to get a few more estimates. No on beat their price and the quality of the system they offered. They installed 4 days later and did a professional job.

They never showed up and I cancelled the call.

Our AC was leaking freon for about 5 years, but one shot of freon always got us thru the summer. This summer the freon only lasted about a week. We got 3 estimates from Angie's list providers for a new system. Although it was next to impossible to compare apples to apples (each company offered a different brand and warranty/service plan), we decided on A.J.R. for 2 reasons: They helped us match a unit to our budget, and their representative spent time at our home and then emailed us the proposal. I was great to have time to think about it without a hard sell salesman in your home. A.J.R also put freon in our old system at no charge, so we could get thru the next few hot days until they arived to install new system.

Late saturday night (middle of a winter storm) I noticed that the heater was blowing cold air. Next day I used to angie's list to find AJR since they had sunday hours. Called at 9am about the heating problem and got a call back at 11am that they could be there at 1pm. It was an emergency service so the Angie's list coupon didn't apply, and also there was a $100 service charge just to coming out (not including parts and labor). This seems pretty standard so I agreed. I don't know anything about heaters other then if it isn't working to shut off the gas. He showed up 10min early, and turned up the temperature to ensure the heater would go off. He then checked the ignitor which was working. The only other thing was the fuel value, which is a $500+ part. He whacked it hard and it kicked on. Apparently fuel values can stick shut especially if it is the first use of the season. He stayed and waited cycling the heater several time to ensure that the value was not sticking, but he took the part's serial number just in case I wanted to have the value replaced later. He spend about an hour, and waved the service charge. So $120 later I have a working heater again.

Very well! I called last night. He took awhile to contact me back, for which he apologized. My issue wasn't really an emergency, so I wasn't concerned. He offered to come out that night, but it was late so we agreed on him coming around this morning between 8 and 9. It was closer to nine and he called to let me know he was on his way (which I appreciate). My husband took care of dealing with him when he arrived as I was engaged in some other tasks. He took about 45 minutes to diagnose and resolve the problem. The price was a bit higher than I hoped, but less than I feared. I would definitely use their services again as I got the feeling that he was very willing to make things work for me. I really appreciate good customer service.

my outside HEAT PUMP unit had leaks in the copper lines. Two BGE techs were called because of maintence plan that did not cover copper line repairs. AJR was my second choice. From SERVICE MAGIC.COM. The AJR tech TIM found system without coolant. the tech needed to order a new pc unit that was still under warranty with manufacturer Refered a small leak sealer to try first. I agreed to try this chemical in the copper line. 5/25/2010 He then recharged the coolant. Charged $89.00 . Returned 5/28/2010 with new pc unit. Installed unit reinstalled chemical HVAC Super Seal.$632.52. The AC worked for one day. I called AJR for thirds service call. The tech TIM returned 6/11/2010. Found leak at REV. VALVE Brazed copper lines, but reported Rebrazed cooper lines that he did not do on second trip to my home. I was charged $408.92. All this did not fix the outside unit. It still leaked coolant. I call another HVAC CO. that found two more leaks in copper lines. Brazed copper lines. Brazed lines that had leaks.I was charged $1100.00 for this service call that fixed the problem. Do not trust this company.

great response given volume of call and 100+ heat. had two dogs in house with 87 deg heat while we were at work. called around 2, they called back 3 and said tech would be there in 20. tech showed up on time. he said that he had seviced 16 call aready that day. work about 20, tech explained problems and repair plan. would highly recommned in future

I didn’t use them because I needed to replace only the air conditioning and not the complete tear off. I went with another company. They didn’t explain things very well. They just told me that some parts had to be replaced and it was better to replace the unit. The other company explained things well to me and showed me what was wrong. They were on time and responded promptly.

The last week of May, my 22 year old A/C unit stopped working (it's had a slow freon leak for a few years now). I called AJR on a Friday and talked to James (President of the Company). I explained my situation and told him that it was most likely time for a new air conditioning unit. He said his schedule was completely booked for Friday, but he'd gladly come out the next day (Memorial Day weekend) to take a look and give me an estimate. He arrived as scheduled and looked over the system and was able to give me an estimate that same day. I agreed to the estimate and he said he'd get something scheduled as soon as the office opened back up Tuesday morning. A few hours later I received a call from Aaron (one of the techs) who said he was on his way to add freon to my existing system (free of charge) so I'd have a working system temporarily. And it's a good thing he did!! Memorial day weekend the temps reached near 100 degrees, but I stayed nice a cool with the added freon. Now that's what I call service!! On Tuesday morning I received a call from James who said I was on the schedule for the next Morning. By noontime Wednesday I had a new working system. The Technians (Aaron and John) were very courteous and professional and cleaned everything up nicely when they were finished with the job. The techs brought me down to inspect their work to make sure I was satisfied prior to me signing the service ticket and making payment. I highly recommend this Company for any of your Heating & Air Conditioning needs!!

The installation of the two units was essentially completed in one day. On the following day I called the owner with a concern, and he immediately said he would have someone out to address it. Within a half hour the technician arrived, surveyed the situation, determined what needed to be done and took action. When I called the owner to thank him for his technician's responsiveness, he assured me that AJR is highly concerned with doing the job right and getting customer satisfaction. I am glad that I used Angie's List to find AJR and it is easy to understand why AJR received the Super Service Award in 2010.

They gave me a good quote and did a very nice job. They came in, did their work very efficiently and did not make a mess. They were in and out, and I had no problems with them. They did the things they said they were going to do; that is all I could ask of someone. The workers were very nice and friendly. I would recommend them to others. I would rate them highly and would use them again in the future if necessary.

The men were here on time and did the job in one day. They knew what they were doing and we were very pleased. There were a couple of things that needed to be addressed after they left. They came back the next day and fixed these minor problems. They were very responsive and we would recommend them to anyone who needs to do a bog job like this.
