I called Mid Atlantic Solid Solutions to get a quote on granite countertops for a townhouse that is being renovated prior to being listed for sale. We had used this company to install our countertops and backsplash 2 years previous and had no problems. I called and explained my situation and told them that my measurements came to approximately 33 Sq. Ft. and was told that the price would be $44/sq. ft. installed and included a kitchen sink, and that they would come and measure to give the exact quote for the job. We are on a tight schedule to get the renovations complete, so relying on our previous experience with this company, I scheduled the measurements and eventual countertop installation and assumed that everything was in order. After measurements were complete, the sales person who measured sent me an estimate (not itemized) for $1998. I was expecting a price closer to $1500, so I immediately called the sales person and was told that because the total square footage was less than 40sq. ft, the sink is not free, but they "pro-rated" half the cost of the sink. After some conversation, I got him to tell me that the sink cost $400, and he offered to take the remaining "pro-rated" sink cost off of the price. At that point, I explained to him that the price still seemed higher than I expected and he told me that the price for cutting a hole for the sink was $250. This shocked me since I was quoted an installed price of $44/sq. ft. including a sink after discussing the size of the counter. I assumed that the salesman was aware of my need for a sink to be installed in the countertop, since he was providing the sink, so I explained to him that I would have preferred he give me that information up front. We had to get the counters finished, so rather than starting over with a new company, I agreed to the price of $1830 and we scheduled the installation for 1-3pm on Tuesday April 2, 2013. They informed me that I needed to make sure that the plumbing was disconnected, and I inquired why I would have to do that, since 2 years ago when they installed counters for me, they did all of the plumbing, and they told me that it cost them too much to have a plumber work for them. My contractor who is doing other renovations at the same property asked me if they were going to remove the countertop, or if he would be responsible for doing that, so I called Mid Atlantic Solid Solutions back and verified that "All I have to do is disconnect the plumbing." On the installation day, I called the salesperson to verify the exact time of the install, and he let me know that it would probably be closer to 2:30-3:30 before the installers arrived. My wife arrived at the townhouse to wait at 2:15 so that she would be sure not to miss them if they arrived a few minutes early. At 3:50, I received a call from the company that was hired by Mid Atlantic Solid Solutions to do the counter installation telling me that the crew was still working a previous job. After a few minutes of repeatedly asking "What time will they be to my house?", he told me that they would be finished at their other job in 45 minutes and he would call me when they left the job they were at which was about 45 minutes away. At 5:15, having not heard from anyone, I left a voice message on the salesman's cellphone that I hadn't heard anything and got no response. At around 6pm, the installer crew finally showed up with no phone call. They came in and asked why the counter wasn't removed. I had no answer, so they removed the old countertop and installed the new one and were done at 8:45pm. The counters look great. They left the old countertop in the back yard and when I reminded them to take it with them, they told me that they don't haul away the old countertop and I would have to call the office. I left another voicemail with the salesman asking about this. The next morning, I called the salesman at 8:45 and asked him if he recevied my voice messages, and he informed me that he was busy with his family, so he didn't bother to listen to the messages until the morning. He then informed me that they don't dispose of the old countertops and sinks, so I was responsible for this. I reiterated that we had discussed that plumbing was all that I was responsible for, and he just restated that they "have no way to dispose of the old countertops". As a consumer, obviously, I don't have resources at my fingertips to dispose of sinks and countertops either, but could have at least planned for it had I known. I informed the salesman that I was unsatisfied with the way that the entire process went, and that I would not recommend them to anyone else which was a surprise to me since we were so happy with the previous dealings with the company. He did not seem concerned with my satisfaction at all and told me that he would pass along what I said to one of the owners of the company. Summary: I felt like I was deceived with the pricing and what services were provided, and the installation contractor wasted my day and my wife's day without remorse. OUTSTANDING! Meet with Chris at the house and he gave us design ideas for the kitchen renovation. He provided us with 3D elevation drawings of the kitchen in color so we could see what the kitchen would look like before they started any work. They priced out the project for us and to our suprise we were not shocked by the number. They presented themselves very well and responded quickly. We chose to give them the job. They gave us a timeline for each part of the process and they came when the said they would be there. Cabinets were torn out on day one and placed neatly in the garage as we wanted to use them at a second home at the beach for garage storage. They installed all the kitchen cabinetry in one day! They had a granite template done on day 3 and returned the same day the following week with the granite we had selected along with the granite tops we selected for our 2 bathrooms. The day after all the granite was installed the plumbing was connected and the glass tile backsplash was installed. The following day all the appliances were installed. The quality of the work is outstanding and we were impressed with the scheduling process of the project. We would recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Replace existing kitchen cabinetry and countertops. Replace bathroom countertops. New glass tile backsplash. Install kitchen appliances.
