I sent an email in to start the process for an estimate on replacing a cracked tub in my bathroom. My email was answered quickly the following day and an appointment was made for 5/16/2013 to come out and review for an estimate. The appointment was supposed to start at about 9:00AM, but time came and passed and I didn't hear anything. I decided to allow time for overlaps, I can understand how these things happen. I received a call at a little after noon from Michael Corbett asking if it was still a good time to come out. I informed him that would be fine. To be honest, I was not pleased that I waited over 3 hours to hear anything, but I try to be a forgiving person. He arrived shortly thereafter. We reviewed my bathroom setup and went over some options and Michael gave me some information about the process and how long it would take. We had a nice chat and I was impressed by how courteous he was. He stated he would work on an estimate for me and asked that I call him after I had received my other estimates. I finished my other appointments and attempted to reach Michael again. My wife and I both called Larry & Son's approximately 2 weeks later trying to reach Michael. Specifically, my call log shows I called on 6/5/13. Each time he was out of the office and we left messages for him to call us back when he was available. Sadly to this day I have not heard back from them. I have chosen another contractor at this point and have already signed my contract and will be starting work here soon. I'm not mad or upset about the situation. I went into this asking for different estimates because I wanted to see who would earn my business. For me, it's simply a matter of Larry and Son's didn't put forth the last pieces of effort to try and earn my business. I may have not even gone with them, but I can't say for sure. The reason I say I would be willing to try them again is that I know everyone makes mistakes and am willing to provide a second chance. I also provided a 'C' for responsiveness because they were quick to answer my emails and setup an appointment, but failed to return our calls with an estimate. Any number of things could've happened to bring us to this point. I just don't have the time to try and find out what happened. Anyway, I hope anyone who reads this finds this helpful. I just want to be as candid as possible with my experience.

Larry & Sons is very professional, prompt, and respectful. We've had them out to do a few jobs and they've always sent nice employees. However, their knowledge seems limited and I would only consider using them for something very straightforward. If it something complicated to diagnose, be careful! We had them out a few times to try to figure out why our water supply would drop to almost nothing after the water ran for 20 minutes. They guessed at a few possible issues, and settled on replacing the switch on our well pump at a cost of $300. They guessed incorrectly and it didn't solve the problem. They didn't offer any refund and we ended up finding a leak in the line, on our own, and hired another plumber to make the proper repair. They are professional, very clean and careful and always arrive on time. But they seem to get in over the heads pretty easily on complex issues. Their prices were also higher than other plumbers we talked to.

Everything went fine and very smooth, they wear booties to protect your floors and they clean up after themselves, I have had some workers from other companies leave my house a disaster after they would have worked and never even made me aware of the huge mess they left, or of the amount of cleanup that would be required.
Description of Work: We did buy a service contract, that gives you a % discount on work, effective immediately. We found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. We have have several things done over various times. We replaced old metal pipe fittings into the house from the water meter, this greatly increased water pressure. We had them check our outdoor air conditioning units, and our heat pump, as well as flush the hot water heater, and move a shower head up (we are a tall family) and replace old tub bath fittings. The office staff were great to deal with and the service men that came out to do the work were clean, friendly and did good work. We have been very, very pleased with their services. The price per services you have done do vary - having the service agreement keeps my oil furnace running great, with various tests run on it, and keeps our heatpumps/ac units properly maintained. Reasonable prices too.!!

My contact was Mo Colella, who was very professional and helpful in understanding the work to be done. I was told that the work would be done within the week, which it was and for which I was quite happy. Daniel was the installer. He was very conscientious and his work appeared to be professionally done. However, my heat stopped working overnight and I called the office the following morning. Matt was sent that day to look at the problem and was unable to determine the cause. He told me what to look for if the problem persisted, which it did. I called the next day with the information he said to obtain and he came back that day and was able to fix it. All in all, they were very responsive and professional. Also quite pleasant to deal with. My only caveat has to do with the scheduling: the work was originally set to be done a week after I met with Mo but Daniel came 2 days early and I was not informed about the change but I was ok with it since the work was done even sooner than expected.
Description of Work: Revented my gas furnace from chimney to side of house. This was to prevent the moisture in the chimney from leaking onto the upstairs ceiling.

I also have had to call them for work that I needed some one ASAP and they have always changed things around and meet my needs at every hour of the day and night.Just to night I had to have a person meet me at a sight for a hot water heater with in 30 Min he was on sight and he took care of what we needed and ready to replace in the am.I have even had a water soffner go bad when i was leaving on vaction and I called Mike Corbit and he told me what to do to make it safe to go away and he called me the last day of vaction and when I pulled in my drive way he had a team on sight and with in a 1 hour we had a new softner in place.I have also had heat problem and called Eric Corbit and with in 40 min on a sat HE showed up and we had the branch open and ready.Both of them our owners that care. A bad scenario with a happy ending.
Description of Work: We have used Larry and Son's for years. Well over a decade for heating and plumbing. We had a sewer pipe seperate under the house and you can imagine the mess. Just wanted to take a few minutes to tell about our experience. Larry and Sons is a very professional operation. We recently purchased heat pump/air conditioning unit to replace our electric baseboard heat and window air conditioners. Mo, the salesperson, came out and spoke with us twice-he explained some differences between his company and another we were considering. He was very helpful in determining what system would be best for our needs. The technicians Danny and Tim were very efficient and courteous. Great service! Rich was a very helpful and answered all of my questions. In fact, I've asked them to return and offer an estimate on installing a 2nd AC unit.
Description of Work: Larry & Sons was the 3rd plumber I called about my hot water tank that began leaking pretty bad. After agreeing to an after-hours emergency service call, they call me back and said a technician just became available. Four hrs later, I had a new hot water tank, a new expansion tank (replacing a wrong size tank previously installed), some preventive maintenance stuff for periodically cleaning out my pipes, and peace of mind.

Larry and Sons removed our old HVAC system and installed a new HVAC system. Eric Corbett met with us to performed an air leakage test , air quality test and measured our house. He recommended to add an air cleaner and ultra violet light to our new system which we did not have on our old system. After installing the new system they balanced the system and made sure everything was working properly. They use a checklist to make sure nothing was forgotten and everything was completed. Within a day after our new system was up and running we noticed an improve in our air quality after having the air cleaner and ultra violet light installed. Everyone at Larry and Sons that we interacted with was very professional and knowledgeable. They made sure we were satisfied with our new system. We highly recommend Larry and Sons if your looking for a new HVAC system.

Eric Corbett and Michelle Waugh are consumate professionals. It is a pleasure to do business with them. They may not be the least expensive company to do the job. But they do good work and stand behind what they do. They build relationships with their customers. Our service tech, Chuck is the best.
Description of Work: Larry and Sons did a complete replacement of two HVAC systems at our Church last Spring. We also had them do a major servicing of our Closed Loop Glycol System. They have been incredibly professional in giving us all the options. Nobody likes to hear bad news but they are sure to let you know what you need to do to your system to fix it and to know what issues you may need to think about in the near future. Had bad backup into my sink. Didn't know anything about plumbing, but needed someone to check it. They picked up the phone and were easy to contact and schedule a time. They came on time. It was a bad clog and they ran a snake and cleared it, a quick job. My biggest complaint is that after the fact I realized the price was way too much compared to other companies. I was charged $250 for a 10-15 minute job of running a snake to clear the bathroom sink and realized that this was steep compared to other companies.

Main Circuit breaker tripped about a week prior. I reset it and didn't think too much of it. Earlier this week main tripped in the middle of the day. Started to worry, was going to call electrician next day. Just after midnight it tripped again. Breaker was really hot. Called Royal Electric first thing in the morning and left voice message. They never called me back. Called Kolb Electric and they had a tech over to my house at 4:00 in afternoon. That tech was nervous about about the situation and said i needed an HVAC person. So since I had experience with Larry and Son and had a service contract with them due to a prior plumbing issue. I called them. From there everything went smooth and problem was resolved when they brought in a good electrician, Anytime Electric (Darrell Eby). Anytime replace the main circuit breaker and haven't had a problem since.
Description of Work: Main Breaker was tripping when heat pump emergency heat was running. Called Electrician first and they told me it was HVAC related. Since I had previous experience with Larry & Son's and was extremely satisfied with previous work (water main service), I called them. Larry & Sons handled the whole situation professionally. The HVAC tech arrived when expected and did a through job troubleshooting and explaining the issues. The tech pretty much diagnosed it was a problem with my main breaker or circuit panel. I asked them for a referral to an electrician, since my first electrician said it was HVAC. The company they referred was there within hours and problem solved by replacing the main breaker. Had heat for first time in 3 days during very cold spell (avg 15 degrees at night). Do NOT call KOLB Electric Do call Anytime Electric (Hagerstown)

Everything was great starting with the sale rep Daniel. He explained everything that we needed. Installment team John put the furnace and heat pump in within a Day and a half, Cleaned up everything and explained everything they did. Than Cody or Cory came in last that afternoon and checked everything out, for Co2 and set the new furnace to 84% eff.

Larry and Sons charged $184 to replace a simple, toilet gasket requiring 10-15 minutes including the time it took the plumber to walk to/from his truck to acquire the inexpensive part. The charge included $49 for a "service call charge" plus $135 to repair the toilet. I was not available at the time of repair and my wife did approve the repair after the plumber provided a $184 quote. I believe he unethically took advantage of my wife's lack of experience in dealing with tradesmen. I certainly would not have approved a repair costing the equivalent of over $700 an hour. Over a week ago I called to discuss the matter and was told by the young lady who answered that I would have to talk with the service manager who was not available. She transferred me to the manager's voice mail and I left a msg. I'm still waiting for a return call. Addendum 10.22.12: I've changed my overall score for Larry & Sons to a C from an F. As a result of my Angie's List post, the company's service manager finally called, stating that he did not receive the voice mail I left. As a gesture of goodwill, the service manager is providing a $50 credit which I consider a fair resolution. Nonetheless, he maintained that the price is taken from their rate book and that the $184 price was the usual price. I recommend that you seek service elsewhere for small jobs where prices may be more reasonable, and get competitive bids for larger projects. Addendum 10.24.12: I've changed my overall score to a B. Our oil furnace failed on us this past year and was not worth fixing. We knew that is was coming but we were trying to hold off on replacing it for one more year. Our system (heat pump, ac, oil furnace) was over 20 years old, so instead of just getting a new oil furnace we wanted to replace it all. We also did not have any type of heating or air in the upstairs (1920 home) so we wanted to have an attic unit installed also. We called 5 different HVAC companies to come and give us an estimate for the entire job.Out of all of the bids Larry and Sons was not the cheapest but they did off the best warranty and guarantee. They also came to the house and went over the estimate and were even willing to bargain on some of the prices. They came out and made some measurements and started on the job on a Monday and were 100% finished on that same Friday. They did a great job keeping the duct work neat and clean so that the attic is still a functional storage space. They did a great job placing the new units outside and running all of the lines.After the job was done a representative scheduled an appointment to stop by and do a walk through and to see if we needed anything. They even brought us a gift bag that we were completely surprised to receive. We ended up getting a 10 year total warranty and a 2 year test drive. Basically we were guaranteed comfort and a return on our investment. We have been very happy since day one and are truly satisfied with everything they have done. I would highly recomend Larry and Sons to anyone who needed some HVAC done.

On July 17, 2012 , I had plumbing service inspection performed, a technician came into my home to perform plumbing service that I had purchased as part of my service warranty plan. I had forgotten that this service was a part of my plan. The technician inspected all the: sinks, toliets, drains and tested the water quality. He explained every aspect of the inspection and made recommendations that were very helpful. I was really impressed with this part of my warranty, because the inspection prevents unforeseen plumbing problems. Also, the technician Darren was : friendly,knowledgeable and very professional. The Service warranty- I purchased this warranty last year, it's reasonable and affordable;as a homeowner it is great to have. I am very proud to be a Larry & Sons customer.

Our church, Word of Life Outreach Ministries, had been having a recurring problem with a water pump responsible for pumping water from our kitchen sink into the septic system. Additionally, from time to time sewagewas would back up into our basement leaving a foul odor throughout the church. My wife mentioned it to a technician who was at our house for a routine plumbing fixture maintenance inspection. Darren, the technician, said that he would take a look at it and let us know what the problem was. Darren followed me from my home in Hagerstown to Falling Waters Road (approximately 10 miles) in Williamsport Maryland to give us an evaluation. He diagnosed a missing valve and defective pump and described that someone had installed the pump without also installing the valve to prevent water from backing up into the system. Thereby overworking and burning out the pump. He called Mike Dennison, the sales manager, and explained our situation. Mike told Darren to remain onsite and fix the problem. Darren was finished in less than two hours. Larry and Sons donated this work to our church, doing the work FREE of charge). We praise the Lord for the Darren's . We thank God for Larry and Son who performed great work, exhibited great proressionalism, and performed their job fast and efficiently.

The contract was signed in October 2011 and a deposit made. An additional deposit was made on or about December. The water heater was installed in December in the wrong location which caused a revamping of the layout for the bathroom. The installers acted very professional however their work left something to be desired. The layout of the pipes were zig zagged around existing heating pipework instead of going in a straight line under those pipes. The gas line was installed crossing over an exposed floor joist (basement). As this is a plumbing company I was disappointed with the work. The water heater did work and no further work was done until February 2012. Day one of construction I found out that the bathroom would not be installed as planned due to code restrictions it had to be more than 2 feet from the wall where I wanted the installation to occur., in order to achieve a ceiling height that would be code compliant. This would push my laundry area too far out into the walkway , so the room had to be reconfigured yet again, I was quite specific during the planning phase regarding certain furnishings and fixtures. I asked for a vanity with a toe kick , installed is a vanity with legs, I asked for the shower head to be in the ceiling, installed is a shower head 3/4 the way up the wall. I asked for a rounded toilet bowl, installed is an elongated toilet bowl, the floor was to be leveled, it is not, which causes the toilet to rock slightly against the floor when it is sat upon. (The company did come back to "fix" this once which involved re tightening it down to the floor, that lasted about one month before the problem again occurred). They have not answered my last inquiry as to fixing it. The laundry area got no finished flooring which I thought should have been included. The construction lasted more than 7 weeks from start to finish. I asked on day one of the planning stages to have two windows removed and closed in with cinder block. I was told that they would try to find someone to do this, in the end it cost me an additional 900.00 to have that done, arranged by their company which pushed the cost from $15,306.00 to $16206.00. In addition I was to receive a "free" whole house water conditioner. The work was completed several weeks and I had to ask 2 or 3 times before they installed the water conditioner. In addition I ended up with an additional pump that was not planned because the plumbers did not (or could not ) achieve a downward run on the shower pipe drain. (One pump was to drain the toilet sink and shower in the original plan.) Although I was not charged extra for the additional pump it will present an extra cost in the future if something goes wrong with it, my shower will not drain and the sink will back up into the shower. Overall, Iam quite disappointed as I felt the subcontractors did a better job than the plumbers and this is a plumbing company. UPDATE: As of July 31st I have had warranty work performed by Larry and Son's . I have to say that I was quite impressed with their response. Mike addressed the issues I had very professionally. He asked what he could do to make me happy, I decided at this point that it would be futile to attempt to make design changes etc and requested that he make what I had work as planned. The toilet was reset to correct a problem with movement and the shower pump was replaced as it had stopped working in addition the shower faucet handle had come loose and that was also fixed. Mike was very good about communicating with me what was happening each step of the way . The company was prompt and professional. Although originally we had a different vision of the finished product, I have to say I am quite impressed with their responsiveness and concern to make things right. Thank you Mike !
