Initially, things were good. David Clark came to the house to see the area where we wanted the mural installed BEFORE he would bid on the job. I appreciated this, he knew what he was getting into beforehand. He knew it was a ceiling of the Master Bedroom and that he'd be working about 8 - 9' above the ground. The day he installed the paper, he made a big mistake cutting one of the pieces of the mural. He tried to glue it back. When he was finished, he packed up his paste & tables and loaded up his truck. Then, we went upstairs to see his work. I pointed out the cut. It's very obvious, branches & flowers not lining up at all, and chucks of the mural gone. I felt like crying. De Gournay wallpaper is very expensive. I've been saving money for a long time to get this paper. This was a dream to have this in my home! And it looked terrible. In addition to the cut mural, there were two fist-sized air bubbles, a piece was wrinkled, and in one area the lining paper seam was visible (yet it's NOT visible in 2 other areas, which logically tells me something went wrong with this too!) just not good. When I pointed out this error to Mr. Clark, he got paste out of his truck and a few tools. He actually cut out flower blossoms & stem pieces from wasted portions of the mural and pasted them ON TOP of the wall paper mural in an attempt to fix the error. I've emailed the manufacturer, De Gournay and CC'ed David Clark and they both agree that 3 sections of wall paper mural need to be removed and new paper rehung. But, Mr. Clark seems to feel that I should be paying for these new sections of mural. Why would I pay to fix HIS mistake?? Is it fair that he has been paid $1,100.00 for his work, and I've paid much more then that for custom wall paper and it's a mess?? And most recently, he won't respond to emails. His behavior is unprofessional. He is not taking ownership of his mistake. I would not recommend this guy to anyone. In a May 17th email he wrote: " I have been on the de Gournay registry in London for many years now. It is likely that I have installed more of their murals in the mid-Atlantic states than any other installer. I have worked projects out of the Massachusetts Design Center, Philadelphia Design Center, three New York Design firms, Washington DC Design Center and a design firm in North Carolina. I have a website, which has not been updated for 7 years but will give you an idea who I am and what I do. Also being sent is an attachment file of a few other projects that I have completed. I am very familiar with the deGournay installation instruction package and their installer list. " He sounded very confident in the beginning - but his work is not very good at all. I have met with an attorney about getting him to make it right! If I have to sue him, I will. I have pictures of his work if you want to see, contact me. Happy to share.
