See above. They know boilers. The technician that came only works on boilers in DC and mostly one in older homes and businesses.
Description of Work: This review is for NPS Plumbing and Heating (Nahr Plumbing Services0 We lost heat early (2 am) on a Monday morning. We called a lot of folks to come out (not NPS/Nahr). The first company that came out looked at our gas fired boiler and thought it needed a new igniter ($400). When that didn't work they thought it needed a new controller ($1500) but said the system was very old (1983) and should be replaced at $6500. He couldn't get it working. We called NPS for a second opinonl. The technicial should up right away...was very professional...cleaned the system thoroughly and did some rewiring. HE GOT OUR HEAT WORKING! He acknowledged that the igniter and controller will need to be replaced (could be soon) and it wouldn't make sense to spend $1900 on an old system and recommended we replace it (he quoted $6000). So he did a great job by responding quickly, assessing the problem, getting heat on, and advising us on our options.

Narh Mechanical, a.k.a. NPS plumbing (THIS IS VERY CONFUSING!) are very nice on the phone, but their workers were tremendously incompetent. They werent very nice, they kept talking down to me, and the estimate included a ton of stuff that I didnt ask for and that wasnt a problem. Also, while it purported to be organized well and easy to understand, it was anything but this. My wife and I have 3 post graduate degrees between us and we couldnt figure out what they were estimating or how they arrived at their final totals. Like most plumbers, they tried to sweet talk me over the phone, but the work crew exposed their true colors. I immediately began to call other companies. AVOID NARH / NPS!
Description of Work: Alter and fix plumbing for entire 3 bed / 2 bath row house.

Not well. While replacing the water heater, technicians cracked the drain pan and failed to bring replacement parts leaving the water to leak onto our floor causing mold to form on our baseboards and water damage to our new wood floors. After the 4th visit in a month, we dropped them. Customer service is non existent and the dispatchers are constantly losing work orders and are generally unpleasant to talk to.
Description of Work: NPS technicians came to my apartment 4 times to diagnose a water leak. The first two were spent replacing a water heater that wasn't the source of the leak. The second two were hvac technicians who had a "not me" attitude. I had to fill out the paperwork for the last guy because he claimed I knew more about what was wrong than he did. We were stuck with NPS because they contract with our home warranty company. After the 4th unsuccessful visit and a water leak that continued for over a month, we dropped NPS and went with a company outside our warranty. It was worth it!

Although it took longer than I'd anticipated. Diagnosed the leaking heater and called it in to our home maintenance insurer for approval to replace the heater. Bought new heater and parts, removed old one and installed new one. Team of 2, but one did most of the replacement alone while the other was called to consult on another job. This was no easy task, the basement is no bigger than a skinny walk-in closet and houses water heater, furnace, laundry and storage and is down a narrow flight of old brick steps. There were a couple minor complications, but he stayed with it until it was finished and all connected correctly with no leaks anywhere. The only disruption to me was the hour or so the water was shut off. The reason that the job cost more than just our ''co-pay'' (fee for a service call--rest is covered by insurer) was that the supply line, valve and removal weren't covered under our contract with the insurer.
Description of Work: Assessed water heater leak and replaced water heater, gas supply line, wall valve and removed/discarded old heater.
