At Window Nation, we know replacement windows. We’re third-generation window replacement experts who have been lucky to provide homeowners replacement windows, siding, and doors for over fifteen years. We opened our first showroom in Maryland in 2006, quickly growing to serve homeowners in cities across the country – and we’re not stopping there. We’re grateful for every homeowner who has trusted us to upgrade their most important asset: their home. We’ve learned a lot about home improvement over the years, but the most important thing we learned isn’t about window replacement. We learned the home improvement industry isn’t about offering the best windows, siding and doors; it’s about the relationships we build with our customers.
I called for an appointment and was set up within a week. We had several quotes over a week or so of shopping. Just about everyone came in and gave me the sales pitch. Window nation was the only one that came in and educated me. I was blown away by the knowledge of the salesman (David). During the presentation, I was looking for a reason to say no. They had more windows than anyone else I saw. It seemed to be every quality level and every price range. They didn't pressure me at all. They showed me what they had, I chose what I liked and I got a price I was comfortable with. The salesman told me what would happen next and gave me time frames. Everything they said happened in the timeframe they said. I was as nervous as anything because of the expense of the project. I was patient with the process and let them do their thing. The lead installer walked with me before the project started and the other workers just went to town doing their job. It was a long day and I looked over their shoulders the whole time. They treated my house like it was their own. They cleaned up thoroughly and collected the payment. The difference it made in my house was unreal! Last year my AC never turned off. This year it came on and shutoff through out the day like it's supposed to. We had $340 electric bills last year as part of our budget billing. We have now been reduced to $230. I'm not sure how else I can describe the difference. I couldn't be happier! Thank you for caring about our project as much we cared about it. Most importantly, thanks for keeping us cool all summer. Bring it on Mr. Winter.

The salesman was knowledgeable and helpful getting the new windows ordered and scheduled. If anything could be said here is that the sales pitch was way too long; they were here for over two hours, when one would have sufficed. I gave a "B" for the combined quality of the windows and the installation. The windows themselves earned an A, but the installation is a C+ at best. The installers came and did, overall, a good job. There is a big however, though. While they were installing the windows, they cracked two of the window sill tiles in our master bedroom. I'm sure it was an accident, but the installers didn't own up to it while they were here, and I didn't notice this until my wife pointed it out after the installers had left (not noticing it was my fault). When we contacted Window Nation, their first offer was to simply caulk over the crack, which didn't seem like an adequate solution. When we pressed them a little harder, they offered us $50 back in lieu of them caulking the crack. We took the $50, figuring it was better to cut our losses and put it towards getting it professionally fixed. I'm sure it's going to be more than $50 to repair, however. It would have been nice if Window Nation stepped up to the plate to have the damage they caused professionally repaired, rather than offering a cheap cop out. Accidents happen, but the strength of a company should be built around how they handle it, and I think Window Nation did a poor job handling this.
Description of Work: We had three companies provide quotes for replacing 11 windows in our home. Window Nation was fairly priced for the quality of the windows.

They do a really good job. They cleaned up and took the old window away. Their price was actually a little cheaper than some of the other people I had give me quotes. The quality of the window was good. I had a thermal pane window before, and I got a double pane window put in. It seems to be a lot better.

I did full research on replacement windows, finding a few companies that seemed to have the best prices and widest ranges of products. After receiving 3 estimates from 3 different companies, I chose to go with Window Nation. From start to finish, they were the most polite and efficient company. The sales rep, Doug, was unbelievably knowledgeable and offered multiple solutions. I wasn't necessarily going for look, but for price, and Doug was more than attentive when it came to my budget. I was extremely pleased when he came back with a price that was even lower than my budget. I knew then that they weren't trying to get every last penny from me. The installers were fast, friendly and extremely neat. They handled my home with care, and once they were finished, it was like they were never there. As far as the actual windows go, I mentioned that I wasn't going for look, but for price. And the windows that I bought look great, like I paid much more than I did. They match my house perfectly and have really added a nice, expensive look for a low cost. House looks great, feels great (it is warmer without having to run to the thermostat every few hours.) I'm thinking about having Window Nation put in some new doors in the future. I'm a dedicated customer, but only to companies that really impress me. They've definitely made a lifetime customer out of me.

Requested quote over phone after asking if they could install windows in time for tax credit. They said they could install by Dec 31. Sales representative showed up 45 minutes late - almost 7:00 at night. After quick count of windows, he gave a quote of around $4900 for 10 windows. However to get them installed by Dec. 31 I would have to decide that evening and that tomorrow would be to late. I didn't use because of the sales tactic.
Description of Work: I requested a quote for 10 replacement windows. Went with another company.

Pricing seemed fair and we liked the product, so we went with windows from Window Nation. I found purchasing windows to be like buying a car. The buyer always feels like they're getting ripped off, and with the 2 hours sales pitch - at the end, you're so exhausted you'll sign almost anything. But beyond the whole sales call, we love the windows and thought the installation was great. The crew of three knocked out all windows and doors in a day. If they'd shorten their sales pitch so it didn't take 2 hours, I'd give them an overall A.

The experience was painless with no notable discrepancies. The salesperson proved his product with a live demo and product comparison. He left material for use to read before asking use for the contract. Unlike other companies who wouldn?t take no for an answer (Long Windows!!!). After we decided to go with this company, the paperwork was strait forward with no mysteries. The installers were very good and professional. They answered all my concerns and had no problem with me standing over their shoulders. They were in and out in a day-n-a-half with no mess left behind. They even give me several tubes of calking to use if I needed some?I never did. Now one year later, the windows have saved me $300 - $400 in energy cost. Excellent!!

3.) Customer requests: On multiple occasions I asked them for the model numbers of the windows they were offering. They declined to provide them. I also asked them to provide information to back up their claims. They also declined. Just a few examples, they claim that their caulk is the best, why? They claim that the outside of the window should not be insulated with Hilti foam because it won't allow the window to expand/contract. The truth is, windows should only give 1/8" by standard, Hilti foam seals better and will give 1/8". So why wouldn't window nation answer these questions? If you believe in your product, your company, and your customer service, you must answer questions without providing pressure. Be prepared for it and don't trust their claims! It seems the reason why they want you to sign immediately is so you can't check their claims. 4.) Warranty: Most of the reputable companies on Angie's list warranty labor for 10 years and lifetime on the window. Window nation is 5 years on the labor and lifetime on the window. Rebuttal: I stand behind my original report.None of the 5 other companies that came to my house behaved as they did. 1.) Sales Pitch:The company seems to be in denial of their high pressure sales pitch.Look @ the trend in all of their reports. They clearly have a problem. 2.) Price: The company continually changed the pricing schemes. If for some reason u do decide to do business w/them,hold out on price. They will not give u their best price up front & it may take several iterations. 3.) Product Claims: They make numerous claims to make their product sound like it is the best.Verify the claims.Plenty of them are fluff. 4.) Lead: I realized that WN could not rely on my lead tests. However, since I knew they didn't have lead, I wasn't worried that their tests would find lead. As such I was willing to take the risk of having installation after April 22 b/c I was confident they wouldn't find lead.WN withdrew their price after 24 hrs.I don't believe that is b/c of lead but instead their high pressure sales pitch.
Description of Work: ***READ THIS REPORT BEFORE BUYING FROM WINDOW NATION**** ***They are looking only for customers who will sign that day and who will believe their sales pitch and not ask questions or challenge their claims*** Had Window Nation come to my house to estimate window replacement for 10-17 windows. 1.) Sales Pitch: They have a high pressure sales pitch. There are many reviews on Angie's list of a high pressure sales pitch. On each of them, their manager Adam denies it, but there is clearly a pattern. When they came to my house, they arrived at 11:30 AM. The rep wanted us to sign a contract immediately and stepped out of the house numerous times while I discussed it with my wife. After 3 hours of this, I asked him to leave a 30 day estimate and he refused. Because my house was built before 1979, they claim they will have to add additional cost for lead remediation and they couldn't allow a few days to decide. But I already tested my windows for lead and there isn't any, so why the pressure? We left it that I would call the rep at night to let him know. I called him that night and told him I would do 10 of the 17 windows, email me the price and model numbers of each window so that I could verify the claims they make about the products. I received an email 24 hours later that gave me 48 hours to decide (again I don't have lead, so why 48 hrs?). I emailed back asking for the model numbers and specific questions about their claims. They declined to put their claims or model numbers in writing and withdrew their offer after 24 hours. This gets a big "F" for professionalism. Look at their previous reviews. They are high pressure. I had several other dealers come to the house and none of them acted as Window Nation did. If you want a pressure free situation with a good company use other companies highly rated on Angie's list. 2.) Pricing: When they first came, we thought we may replace 17 windows. The rep worked out a price of $12,000 and then subtracted 20% for Angie's list coupon, for a new total of $9600. I told them that another dealer in the area was selling the exact same window for $7270. The rep then called the manager Adam numerous time & they went down to $7800. This was now $4200 less than the original price so it seemed that they marked up the price on purpose before Angie's list was applied. Their prices are very shady! Be prepared to get high prices then told that they can't go any lower. The rep will then step outside, call Adam, and come back with a new price and they can't go any lower. And this will happen several times. This creates a very high pressure sales situation. Look at previous reviews to see the pattern.

Response from Window Nation Baltimore
Upon reviewing the members complaint my research has shown many of the accusations aren’t accurate. First of all, Window Nation does not promote or condone high pressure sales. As a matter of fact, upon discussing this particular meeting with the representative that met with the homeowner I discovered that the Rep mentioned Window Nation may not be the right fit for him because of his budget. The homeowner still goaded him on in continuing his presentation. The reason for us needing the homeowner to make a “hasty” decision was solely for the purpose of getting his project installed by the April 22nd deadline imposed by the EPA. As of April 22nd any windows in homes built before 1978 will now require stringent guidelines for window installation as to help eliminate the spread of lead dust particles. Though I understand that the homeowner feels his lead testing is suffice, it isn’t. You have to be certified by the EPA and have passed a lead course which our technicians have done. If you don’t have this certification then the EPA doesn’t view the windows as being properly tested for lead (http://www.epa.gov/lead/pubs/renovation.htm). The average time lapse between making an agreement with a homeowner and getting the project installed is 6 weeks. We met with this homeowner on Sunday March 14th, a mere 5 weeks before the April 22nd deadline hence the reason for needing an expedited decision. Installs in homes build before 1978 that contain lead paint on their windows are assessed additional labor fees in order to stay in compliance. These are fees that I’m sure the homeowner wouldn’t have wanted to pay. In regards to the email asking for a decision in the 48 hour time frame the reasoning is the same as explained above. Also, the homeowner refused to take into account the installation part of the project. Our installers all come directly from the respective manufacturers we carry and only do windows. This is a pretty unique way of handling the window installation and because of that it costs more money. Which brings me to the next remark that the homeowner made questioning the quality of our materials. We don’t claim that our caulking is the best, simply far superior than the average tube of caulking that is normally used in this industry. The cost is roughly 6 times that of a standard tube of caulking and the tinsel strength is three and a half times stronger. The reasoning for not offering Hilti expanding foam as the customer mentioned is a simple one. The manufacturers we carry recommend against using expanding foam to insulate between the window and the existing opening of the home. The added pressure to the window frame and the foams inability to allow for expansion and contraction throughout the different seasons can cause big problems down the line. Since the submission of this report, the owner personally called him to clarify all of the issues and apologize on behalf of Window Nation even though all of his accusations aren’t true.

First I visited the local Window Nation Showroom in the Hanover, Md., area. Saw their selection and tried out the windows. They didn't mind the fact that I stopped by several times during my window search. I kept going back to the Bainbridge model and realized that I liked it the best. Also during this time I did a LOT of research on the web -- in addition to, of course, checking Angie's List. That research helped me narrow down my choices. When I finally called them for an appointment it was late Sept. Adam Kincaid (Regional Manager) came to the house, measured my windows and did his sales presentation. Adam gave me the impression that they basically stopped (or drastically slowed) production during the winter months, so they were trying to gather in their orders before the cold weather really started. At first the price he gave me was a bit high, then he revised it and explained that if they could "clump" my order with others, he could give me a better price. In fact, he explained that they keep their prices lower than other companies because they order in larger quantities and pass that savings on to the customer. Part of the sales narrative also pointed out the higher prices that other companies were charging for comparable and even lesser grade windows. Adam showed several examples of this (other estimates by companies) and he also explained that they do not give their estimates in writing. (That way their competition doesn't get copies.) It is not until the customer agrees to have the windows installed that any papework with prices is given to the customer. There was absolutely no pressure to sign a sales contract during his visit to the house - which I appreciated greatly! I called Adam a few days after his sales presentation and agreed to the installation. The paperwork came via email, I signed it and returned it to their office. A Window Nation staffer then visited to double check the measurements (standard procedure for them). At that point the order went in. That was around 1 October. The windows were ready later that month, however, due to my work schedule, I could not have the installation completed until 18 Nov. The installers (4) who did the work were very professional. I was extremely pleased with their work and the fact that they were done in less than one day. They answered my questions as they did the work. The team was headed by Tommer -- he was super and kept things moving along. I had read many horror stories about shoddy window installation, but I really had peace of mind as the installers went about their work. It is now almost three months (and several snow storms) later. I've had no air leaks around the windows and I'm still please about my decision to have them installed. I'd be glad to refer my family or friends to Window Nation if they need similar type of work.
Description of Work: Window Nation installed 20 windows in my house - 17 double hung and 3 casements. I selected the Bainbridge Plus model with grids and the "super spacer." I had debated getting new windows for several years as my house is only 17 years old. But the cheap wooden windows were leaking a lot and the seals between the double panes were failing. I realize I may never "re-coup" the $$$ for the new windows, but the house is a lot more comfortable now and the installation should help with eventual resale. I did a lot of research, talked to a number of contractors and went to showrooms and home centers to see a lot of windows. I liked the SoftLite products the best. And I liked the fact that WIndow Nation and SoftLite work in "lock step" for the installation. Window Nation installers are factory trained and the warranty covers "installation issues."

The installation went very smoothly and they were very efficient. It took about 1.5 days to install all 16 windows. The workers obviously were trained very well and installed the windows very quickly and their work was of high quality. I think they could have used more protection on our window sills during installation though. They used a piece of wood to protect the window sill when using a crowbar to pry off the old window. This put a few dents on our window sills, which I wasn't that pleased about. However, they did also go the extra mile and re-level the window sills that were not level so the windows looked right and installed more nicely. So in the end, I think it worked out. A few weeks after installation, there was one place where the caulking started coming off. I called them, and they were very quick to respond and sent out a person in to fix up the issue. The person that did the repair even came out earlier than he was supposed to to accomodate my schedule, so kudos to them for that. I felt the sale prices and window nations were OK, but not necessarily competitive with other window companies in the area. They have a fairly aggressive sales tactic which is good and bad, but you must be prepared for it. They give more information than other places do, but also push you more as well. I would just say to have other estimates before you meet with them so you can bargain prices more easily. Overall, i thought the experience with window nation was good. I have recommended them to a friend already.

The work was done very quickly and only by a crew of three. I still have another sliding door and an entry door that I will be getting in the future from this company. We have already recommended Window nation to three of our neighbors.
Description of Work: Got 4 large brown sliding windows and a 9' sliding door installed. The sales rep was very knowledgeable. He took the time to listen to our concerns about noise (we live right off a major road) and recommended triple pane glass on the Elements window. Window nation was the first estimate on windows we had ever had. We ended up trusting the sales rep and the company so much we ended up purchasing that evening. I can't believe we did that but are extremely happy we did.

The salesman that came out was the second out of four companies that I had made appointments to see. He was on time (actually about 10 mins. early but he waited in his car until the appt. time), knowledgeable and rather pleasant to be around. He made me feel very comfortable with him and Window Nation, in fact he even took his shoes off with out me asking as I had just had my carpets cleaned! My experiences in the past had proven that these presentations can take several hours w/ loads of useless information given by the salesman. This was the exact opposite! Everything from start to finish took only about an hour and a half. I actually went against my normal M.O. and decided to take a leap of faith. I cancelled my other two appts. and agreed to use Window Nation that night. I couldn't be more pleased! The windows came in about two weeks before I was expecting them. The installers were very tedious and methodical in their work. Because of the cold weather I was nervous about my house being open too long. They actually went room by room for the installation and even put down tarps to ensure there was no mess. The installation took only a half of a day and looks perfect! Every once in a while you have an experience that puts a genuine smile on your face and this was definitely one! I have already referred them to several of my neighbors after a dinner party that I had and they were all jealous of my new windows.

We called upon Window Nation to replace the windows in our home after being referred to them from a friend. We had several quotes and were most pleased with their quote and the professionalism. They were always on time, offered us several options and helped us stay w/in our budget. Once they began the project, they completed it w/in the promised one day - which was very important as we were approching the Thanksgiving holiday. They were extremely neat and respected our home. The finished product looks great and we are thrilled! We will be calling them again in the future to set up an appt to replace our slider and storm door -- their professinalism and great work did not go unnoticed! We would certainly reccommend Window Nation again and again!

As of today (07OCT09), pretty terrible. It has been all downhill since both sales reps sat in my kitchen to make they're pitch...surprise surprise. But before I go on, I want to preface this assessment by saying that the actual product is overall pretty good, it's just everything else that came along with it that has been sub-par and headache inducing. First, Window Nation's installers arrived late, no big deal if the rest of the installation went well, but that didn't happen. The actual carpenters were fine, but the work they did was only so-so. They left excess amounts of caulk all over my counter tops and cabinets (adjacent to the door) and didn't properly seal where the door meets the floor: there is a noticeable gap between the tile and the threshold on one end of the door (see pic #2). In addition, where the two doors meet did not seal properly, so they had to apply a few extra 1"-2'" pieces of insulation to keep out the draft; it still look sloppy and amateurish. Also there is a "cap" covering the outside where the two door converge (pic #1). This was expected, but why would they make it white when I asked for the exterior to be brown? And if this is standard, why would Window Nation not mention it at the time of sale, especially since they did not provide us with a picture of what the final product would look like (A mistake, I know. But at the time I trusted they would do a good job (yup, another mistake...). But honestly, I would have been fine with all of that, had the actual doors not been damaged upon arrival. That's right, both doors are still damaged over 3 months after initial purchase, and as of right now, I still have no idea of when Window Nation is going to be fix them. Here's the deal: both doors arrived scratched on the inside; one has five little dings in the finish, while the second door has about a 3 inch scratch (pic #3). But that's not the problem. Heck, I wouldn't have even minded had it been repaired within a reasonable amount of time, but it has been nearly two months since these doors were installed and they still haven't come back to repair them! I've been quite patient with they're representatives, but every time I call for answers, the date of repair gets pushed back; we're a week into October and I was original told the door would be repaired just after labor day. It has taken Window Nation longer for the follow-up work to be completed (and I'm still waiting!) than it took them for the original door to be custom made AND installed! I'm still waiting for a straight answer from these people, and am getting the distinct feeling I'm intentionally being blown off. And after all that, there is still another problem with the door. The doors we purchased were fiberglass, so in order to get a "wood grain" look, a thin face is installed on the outside of the door; The effect really does look good. But of course, there had to be a problem with this as well. After installation, near where the door meets the hinge, the wood face is torn/cracked (pic #4). It's not big by any means, but come on now: I spent over $3700 bucks on something that is damaged, and its not going to be fixed. To be honest, any one, two or even three of these things would have been tolerable and completely acceptable, but the sum of all these issues together, both small and large, has made this experience an unpleasant one. I'd imagine if the installation had gone smoothly and the other problems didn't accumulate, I would have otherwise been very happy with the purchase; but that clearly didn't happen. So although I really wanted to like this company because of their apparent quality of work and established branding, I have to NOT recommend Window Nation at all. But if you do go with them, hope that nothing goes wrong during the installation process, because they are not responsive to any follow up work that needs to be done and they're customer service is only adequate. Good luck!

Response from Window Nation Baltimore
First and foremost we would like to apologize for the inconvenience and quality issues that have came about. A majority of the issues have come about from our door manufacturer in which we had no control of the quality issues. Since this post, the VP of the door manufacturer has spoken with the homeowner, resolved the door issue, and issued a discount for the problems that came about. The job is now complete and the customer is satisfied with the final outcome.

The estimate was given by Adam, who was professional and upfront from the start. He didn't waste any time. The workers were there when promised and were efficient and knowledgable of their job. They were respectful of the property and us, and kept us informed as to what would be happening. Clean up was very well attended to. What stands out in my mind, is that after completing the job, they asked us to walk around the home with them to double-check that all was to our satisfaction. Great Job. After 2.5 days, the job was done and my husband and I were quite pleased with everything from start to finish. Just call them.

That experience was excellent. The timing was perfect. They came in and did measurements to order the windows. They were neat, professional, clean, and courteous. They came on time. They were accommodating. They gave me all of the information I needed. They installed them in the time I expected. They offered to come out and clean them for me.

After I requested a quote on the job, a salesman came over and discussed their products with us. Yes, this was the usual sales pitch, but the salesman listened well to my requests and priorities. The end result (after some significant haggling) was a very competitive quote. There was a quick follow up visit by Mike, who carefully measured our existing windows. The windows were ready about 5 weeks later. The installation crew did a nice job. They could have been a little more meticulous about cleaning up some of the wooden debris and splinters around the outside of the house, but overall the installers did a very good job.
Description of Work: Installed 14 replacement windows.

Overall experience from initial contact to installation was excellent. We had obtained several estimates. Window Nation gave us the best price for triple-paned replacement windows. Their price was less than another company's price for double-paned replacement windows. They replaced our 20-year-old windows with Softlite Bainbridge windows. We're very happy with the product and find the house considerably less drafty. Hopefully, that will help with our utility bill next winter. The installers arrived exactly on time, and worked efficiently. They were neat and tidy, and left the job in good condition. I was initially unsure about using a larger company with several locations, since my preference is to use a local, smaller contractor. But, I found them to be very easy to work with, and was happy with their pricing and installers. I would recommend Window Nation.

On February 7, 2009, my husband & I went to Window Nation after finding them on Angie's List. We meet with Aaron to discuss our options for replacing our existing slider in the kitchen. After looking at what Window Nation had to offer, we decided on a slider with the blinds in between the panes. It was very important to us that we purchase a door with blinds as we have houses behind us and we need to be able to close off the view through the door. While on vacation the week of February 22nd, Jeff called to let us know our door was in. Since Jeff was unable to reach us during the week, he actually called on Sunday the 1st of March to set up our installation. On Monday, March 9th, the installation crew arrived promptly at 9:30 to begin the installation. The guys were at our house for about 5 hours completing the installation. The door looks great and we are so glad to finally be rid of the vertical blinds that were covering our old slider.

The estimator was 30 minutes late. He was not particularly knowledgeable about windows, and despite claiming to be able to install different brands of windows, he only had a Pella sample, and later we learned they ONLY install Pella. He was a very friendly salesperson, but was trying too hard to be chatty and not enough estimating/measuring involved. He had a conference with the manager at the shop in his auto and came back with an estimate, which was followed the next day with a written estimate. The price was decent compared to other estimates, but the quality of the windows was nothing special - in fact, they looked cheap. The manager did the email contact. He tried a very unusual tactic of telling us our choice to spend a little more for better windows "didn't make much sense". I'm not sure why he thought this was a good idea.
Description of Work: Window Nation gave us an estimate for 21 wooden replacement windows, including removal, installation, and cleanup.
