Both crews that came out to encapsulate my crawl space were professional, polite, and courteous. Both crews explained all the work the were doing before and after. They removed all the old material and made sure they didn't leave a mess. They did a outstanding job and I would highly recommend Devere service.

Dear Reader: My crawl space under a 2005 addition had the old-school crawl space vents and insulation between the upper floor joists. The new way to have crawl spaces is to totally seal the area from the elements. Devere Insulation updated the crawl space by removing the insulation, blocking off the vents, smoothing the floor, putting a thick plastic on the floor and partly up the walls, and sprayed-foam insulation on the crawl space walls. It was a LOT of work. The technicians were thorough and took their time getting it right, despite the rather difficult conditions, working in a 24-inch high location. The work took 1.5 days and I felt that the job was worth every penny. Hire them. Regards, Cary

Went great. The inspection and estimate was quick and easy. Scheduling was quick, included a call ahead, and were on time. Job was done with care taken to cover all areas that might get dirty with plastic sheeting. Work was completely quickly and thoroughly. Included putting in venting to keep the attic air circulation optimal.

I contacted this company after doing a fairly extensive review on Angie?s List for companies that provide insulation, as well as referrals from a couple of the contractors who were bidding on the other portions of the work we were having done at our house. They were very polite on the phone and worked with me to set up a convenient appointment that was within a few days of my call. Sean came out to price our project. He was very thorough while surveying the project. He took careful measurements and described what their company thought would work best for our house. He also directed me to an approved energy auditor who would provide the ?before? and ?after? numbers to help me get the rebate currently being offered by BGE. Their proposal was clear and concise and delivered in a timely manner. Once the proposal was accepted by me, scheduling the job was quick and easy. On the day of the work, their team showed up right on time. They asked for a quick tour to see all of the areas they would be working in and explained the basic steps they were going to take to get the work done. They performed a ?before? blower door test so they had their own baseline numbers to compare. While I was at work, I received a call from Devere?s office letting me know that the work site supervisor had let them know the job might run past 5:00 PM and asking if that was OK. They also told me that a small part of the job could not be done (my own fault as I had not cleared out enough access) and that they could either come back another day to do it or they could take it off the bill. We decided to have that work removed and they offered to send a proposal to do the remaining work when I was ready to get it done. When they were done with the work, they showed me many ?before and after? pictures of each portion of the job as well as giving me a tour of the easily accessible areas to show what they had done. They did a wonderful job cleaning up all of the work areas. They then performed an ?after? blower door test to make sure that they had done the job properly. They are taking care of sending all of the information to the energy auditor so that they can come out to do the official ?after? numbers and then they will send all of the information to BGE for the rebate. I am very pleased with all facets of this company. They make everything as easy and simple as possible. If I ever have a need for insulation, I would contact this company again?.and I have already given their name to a neighbor who was looking to have some insulation work done!

I had an Energy Audit conducted on my house in mid-September by another company (Energy Efficiency Experts). While the report indicated my house was relatively tight, it suggested that some added insulation in my attic might be beneficial and eligible for the current energy rebate, but cautioned that any such work could over-seal the house requiring mechanical ventilation. My attic is designed as an unfinished bedroom area which already has flooring down, making insulation at the floor more difficult. As an alternative to just adding insulation to the floor, I was also interested in getting pricing on sealing and / or insulating the attic roof in order to condition the space in the attic. Energy Efficiency Experts recommended that I get a separate review and estimate from Devere Insulation. I contacted Devere and was quickly scheduled. Sean Millham arrived on time. He had obviously closely reviewed my energy report which I had e-mailed to Devere when the appointment was arranged. We went up into the attic and Sean concisely and clearly discussed the various alternatives for insulating my attic. He confirmed that blowing cellulose over the existing fiberglass batts did negatively affect the insulating quality of the fiberglass, but said this would be offset by adding many additional inches of cellulose. However, adding cellulose was almost certain to seal the house past the limit where I would need mechanical ventilation. Just adding more fiberglass to the outer edges of the existing floor would not impact the sealing, but would not likely have much effect on my energy bill (although it could increase the ?comfort level? of the rooms below, which was not a big issue for me). He also discussed alternatives for conditioning the attic space by insulating at the roof line, but these were expensive alternatives (and the foam sealing options would again seal the house below the level where I would need mechanical ventilation). The bottom line was that there were no cost effective alternatives to reduce my energy bill or condition the attic space. Sean never tried to sell me anything, and his insights have saved me several thousand dollars. Several other companies had reviewed my situation but Sean was the first one to really understand what I was looking for and make sense out of some complicated issues. After looking at the attic, Sean reviewed a couple of leaky doors that were identified during the audit and came up with suggestions for things that I could do to improve them. In order to reduce my energy consumption, I have purchased a Kill-a-Watt energy monitor and will be looking at ways to reduce the baseline load from my lighting and appliances (another recommendation from my energy audit). I was extremely impressed with the professionalism and knowledge of Sean Millham. If you are looking for an honest assessment of the most cost effective solutions for lowering your energy bill I highly recommend Devere Insulation.

Home Energy Rescue showed up first to due an Energy Audit of a rancher with long neglected energy upgrade issues followed by the crew from Devere a bit later. Every aspect of the entire experience was performed at the highest level. This performance level does not happen without deliberate effort and diligence. It was a refreshing experience to witness true professionals at work. When shopping for contractors and prices one major competitor stated to me that he could not possibly beat Devere's prices if I was considering them. I would do it again without hesitation and recommend them to anyone looking to reduce utility costs.
Description of Work: Energy evaluation, all heat losses located, 41 recessed overhead lights sealed for draft loss, 12" blown in attic, efficient access installed, lower rim-joists sprayed with foam, miscellaneous leaks sealed. A second evaluation done to demonstrate the resultant improvement.

The total experience with Devere was great. Joel, their Building and Envelope Specialist, came out (right on time I must add) to do a site evaluation in order to give me an estimate. He was very thorough, answered all of my questions, made suggestions, and got back to me via email in a day with my estimate. I reviewed their proposal, thought it was a good deal, and contacted them and advised them that I was going with their estimate. Michelle, my contact person at Devere was also "on the ball" along with the rest of the crew at Devere. Any questions I had were quickly answered (most of my questions were asked via email, and were answered quickly). The day of installation, the 2-man crew showed up on time, and began work immediately. They pretty much worked nonstop all day until the work was done. They performed an initial blower-door test, and then did another test once the job was completed. In my case, the reduction of air leakage in my home was 25%, of course the final test-out by an energy auditor will be the official result, but should arrive at the same result. All during the install the crew took digital photos as verification as to what and how much was done where. These photos can be obtained from Devere upon request. I was shown photos as the work was being done of areas under the eaves I could not see, but by using the photos I could see the depth of the insulation via the measuring sticks. Once the result is verified by an official energy audit retest (they call it a "test-out"), the paperwork will be submitted and I will get a 50% rebate of monies spent. This is a current incentive offered by BGE and Pepco, and currently the Energy Audit only costs $100..a real deal. Increase your home's efficiency by at least 20%, and BGE or Pepco rebates 50% of the cost of the improvement, plus you can get 6.9% financing! The end result so far? Before the insulation, my AC was running constantly. The thermostat was set on 75, but the living room would be warm, and the actual temp would be 78 or 79, so the AC would just run constantly. Over the past several days since the install, my thermostat is set to 75, and the AC keeps the room at 75, shutting off quite frequently, compared to constantly running before. My upstairs now is a normal temperature, vs getting hot during the heat of the day. I was skeptical as to the possibility of it making a difference, but boy was I wrong! What a difference already! Looking forward to the savings on my utility bill. Do the audit, get the improvements, use Devere, you will not be disappointed.
Description of Work: After having a Home Performance Energy Audit performed by an independent auditor, I had Devere air seal my attic and the basement (the rim joists in the basement). After the air sealing was completed, they placed (and joint sealed) Dow foam fanfold along the inside of the knee walls in the attic, and placed vents in the eaves between the sofit area to above the height that the blown in insulation would be, so air could circulate freely from soft to the ridge vent and not be blocked by the blown-in insulation. Next, the fiberglass insulation was blown in to attain a total R-value of R-49. I already had some old fiberglass batt insulation valued at R-11, and, with the R-38 blown in together attained R-49. Prior to blowing-in the fiberglass, they placed measuring sticks (essentially they are rulers marked in inches to gauge the depth of the blown-in insulation) at various points in the eaves. Devere also weather-stripped and insulated the 2 attic access doors.

After having a home energy audit by a different company, I asked Devere Insulation for a quotation to perform the suggested improvements: air sealing and insulation of crawlspace, attic, cantilevers. The estimator was on time and thorough and answered all of my questions. I chose Devere because the proposal was competitive compared to the other estimates I received and the estimator didn't just use the home energy audit to give me a proposal - he actually looked at everything and suggested that a few of the energy audit recommendations weren't necessary. He also noticed the fact that the bathroom vent fan vented into the attic rather than outside. Thanks to his thorough inspection of the house, the proposal for the work was in line with what the house actually needed, rather than what is typically done for energy efficiency improvement jobs. I appreciated the fact that they were able to schedule the work on a Saturday so I wouldn't have to miss work. The installation crew was friendly, courteous, and careful about keeping the house clean (removing shoes, placing blankets to catch dust, cleaning up well before leaving). They also answered my questions and concerns and explained everything they did and showed me pictures of the work they had done in the attic. I was very impressed by their work. Even though the energy audit was prepared by a different company, Devere's office staff prepared my rebate application paperwork right after the work was completed. I was very impressed with every Devere person that worked on my project. I've noticed that the house feels cozier and stays cooler than outside on really hot days (even when the air conditioning wasn't working). The electricity bill for July was unbelievably low. I'm looking forward to a cozy house this winter and lower gas bills.
Description of Work: Home energy efficiency improvements: vent bathroom exhaust fan outside (it was vented into the attic), air seal attic and install additional insulation in the whole attic, and air seal and insulate crawl space and small bay window.

I think that the workers for this company are fabulous. They worked extremely hard and diligently. They answered all our questions and kept us posted on progress. The workers came the first day and did half of the job (opening a sealed attic and blowing in insulation and dense packing a cantilevered window and air sealing park of the basement). Then, the company graciously wait on our electrician to finish in the main attic before coming back. The second part of the job (the work in the main attic) took much longer than originally planned. The workers worked about 12 hours the first day and about 6 the second day. I cannot praise their efforts highly enough. They were great! I would use this company again despite the fact that I found communication with the main office to be a challenge at times. They can be difficult to reach. It took me a long time to schedule with them which they said was because they were moving offices and when I had questions for the main office staff, it took a while to make contact. However, when we did discuss things they were gracious and helpful. They re-wrote our proposal three times until it met our needs. This company was recommended to us by the company that did our home energy audit. I tried to get another company involved to get a comparative bid on pricing, but I couldn't get my calls returned so I can't say whether pricing is competitive but I am happy with the price. I would happily use DeVere again. They are really good.
Description of Work: DeVere opened a sealed attic and blew in more insulation. They dense packed a cantilevered window in the basement and air sealed an area of the basement. They removed old insulation from the main attic, air sealed that attic, sealed some vents in that attic, added baffles and measuring sticks, and blew in new insulation.

Devere was one of two companies recommended by the person who did my energy audit. Estimates from the two firms were about the same, but Devere's scope of work was more comprehensive. In my walk-in attic we decided that enclosing that space in the "envelope" of the house was easier & more cost-effective than raising the attic floor and putting insulation between the attic space and the finished areas below and alongside. They installed vents and batt insulation in the sloped ceilings, covered that with 1" insulation board, and caulked all the seams. That space used to be freezing in winter and broiling in summer - now it is comfortable (heat leaks through from the floor below, but now does not escape through the roof). (Prior to Devere starting I had my handyman remove all the old insulation and the attic fan.) Also, Devere put blown-in insulation in the space above the rest of my second floor, and sealed that space off from the walk-in attic with 2" insulation board. A third triangular space between a sloped roof/dormer windows and the second floor bedrooms was also insulated on the back side of the bedroom walls, then blown-in insulation was added and finally 2" rigid insulation board sealing that space off from the walk-in attic. In my unfinished basement and crawl space, Devere insulated the rim joists (at top of basement walls). Finally, they did a whole-house check with a blower-door test, and caulked leaks around window and door frames, and added weatherstripping on my exterior doors. Beautiful job! Now I am waiting for a $2000 Pepco rebate! Devere did the application for that for me.

Excellent company - estimator (Allison) came out as scheduled to review and measure job. Thoroughly explained home energy audit program offered through BG&E and she provided list of three BG&E certified home energy auditors. Two days after coming in to measure the job, DeVere provided an estimate and contract for their services. DeVere crews (separate crews for spray foam insulation and fiberglass blown insulation) arrived early for their scheduled appointment on 12/10/2012 and completed all contracted work in a clean, timely, professional and friendly manner. Allison followed up with us and served as the go-between with the energy audit contractor - for which we will receive a direct rebate from BG&E for up to $2,000 of the job.

My experience with Devere was excellent. from start to finish. I had an addition built onto my home and I called them as well as a competitor as soon as my electrical inspection was completed. Both companies had estimators on the job site within a couple of days. Devere's price was a couple hundred less than the competitor's. Devere had a crew out to the site soon after my framing inspection. They were done in a single day. Their work passed inspection without any issues.

Devere was very professional; they arrived on time and performed the work as described. In the course of adding insulation in the attic, they accidentally pulled a line feeding power to the kitchen. However, they were very helpful in dealing with the problem, and they paid my electrician's charges to remedy the problem. The insulation and whole-house sealing dramatically improved our energy efficiency as determined by their own testing as well as that of PEPCO. They were also extremely helpful in dealing with PEPCO such that we received our rebate without complication.

The quick overview: I was very impressed with DeVere throughout the entire process, including response to my initial phone call, estimator coming to the site, detailed cost proposal, willingness to modify (reduce) scope of work, skill and professionalism of the crew, customer service focus of the crew, and completion of the work. But two factors stand out in my mind about the quality of the service and work performed: 1. DeVere?s goal was clearly to solve my home?s insulation and energy inefficiency problems, and not simply install more insulation. I reached this conclusion when the estimator first came to my house and I compared what he did to the actions of another company?s estimator who came later that day. The DeVere representative examined every aspect of my home?s problems that were mentioned in the Energy Audit that had been completed previously by another company, issues that I highlighted, or ones that he saw. He crawled around the attic, knee-wall areas, crawl spaces, etc., and developed alternative solutions. He also told me the simple things that I could do myself. This is in sharp contrast to the representative of another insulation company that came to my house. That individual never went into the crawl space, marginally viewed the knee wall areas, and simply looked at the Energy Audit as a blueprint for her bid. Most importantly, she was not willing to do some of the tasks that DeVere suggested and later proved critical. For example, she would not remove plywood flooring in the attic to add insulation and would not remove the soffits and look for leaks around the area between the original house and a new patio roof. It seemed her goal was to simply apply insulation. DeVere?s estimate was twice that of the other company, but the additional tasks DeVere performed led to a much better outcome. 2. DeVere?s crew leaders and their crews were exceptionally good. They were highly professional and smart about what they were doing. They worked a long day on the many tasks. One individual spent most of the day investigating and then solving a problem I had with where a patio roof structure (added to the house in 1995) interfaced with the original house. He discovered a huge leak from the soffits and then proceeded to fix the problem. It was a lot of investigation and work, and he did an extraordinary job. About mid-afternoon when the crew realized the work was taking longer than expected, they brought in 3 more individuals to complete tasks in the basement. The crew leaders kept me informed throughout the day about what was happening. I would use DeVere again without hesitation.
