The job required an entire week to complete a careful installation that has a 5-year warranty. The crew did an excellent job removing the old walls, setting the foundation, excavating for the necessary gravel, drainage pipe, retaining grid and compacted fill, building the wall which involved quite a bit of cutting and fitting, and smoothing the area for grass seed. They used blue tarps to pile the excavated dirt on, so that after completion both the driveway and grass area were clean. The result is a great improvement over the deteriorating brick walls.

Kevin came out (on time), took pictures and sketched out some preliminary ideas. He was very thorough and helpful in explaining his ideas and the process that would be involved. When the scheduled day arrived, the crew, headed by Santos, arrived on time and confirmed everything, including accommodating a few changes I made. Then, they got right to work. They did exactly what we agreed and more. They ran into a problem, a rotted post, but addressed it without skipping a beat! They finished ahead of time and cleaned up everything. To say they did a great job is an embarrassing understatement and the "A" ratings are just not high enough. A friend of mine used Kevin before I did and told me not to bother checking with anyone else because there is no better vendor and no better pricing. He was right. Don't waste your time getting estimates from other vendors. Just call Kevin at The Hardscape Store!

The Hardscape Store, owned by Kevin Reinhold, is an excellent company. We had gotten two bids for the job, and i chose him because of his obvious understanding of the job ,which I perceived from two interviews with him this past winter. It was a gut decision on my part and paid off. The crew he sent out was highly experience, friendly, and paid heavy attention to detail. Everyone carried a tape, a string line and a level... nothing was done without attention to the plan and what the "tape" showed. It was not an easy project as we were trying to meld the new stone work onto a 14-foot stone landing and steps already constructed off the master bedroom of our home, and the rear yard was difficult to get to. It came out amazing... beyond expectations. We had our home built 7 years ago, and we wish we had found this company to do the stone work we had done when it was constructed then.

Kevin designed the patio in late fall 2010 and we submitted plans to our HOA for approval. We were very happy with the design work and the fine tuning that he allowed us to do to get the design to our complete liking. The date of final HOA approval meant that the actual work could be done in spring of 2011. Their crew started the work on the designated day and completed the same within the projected timeframe (about 7-8 working days including two days lost because of heavy rain). The crew was very competent and experienced. The work was done very professionally. They dug the ground and laid the materials in the order the work was planned to be done. Compaction and other steps were done carefully and completely. Rough wiring was installed per my specs as requested for landscape lighting. Various beds were made per design. After three winters (the last one being a pretty harsh one), we can say that we are 100% happy with the work. Not a single paver in the patio or a single stone or paver in the retaining wall has shifted after three seasons and regular use! My wife and I were just sitting out side on the patio and enjoying the same when I thought writing a long overdue review of an excellent piece or work. Keep up the good work, Kevin.

Design and quote process went very smoothly, great flexibility in doing design revisions to meet our requirements and cost range. Work crew was very professional and the quality was very high. They cleaned up the work site very well at the end of each day. They also went above and beyond by coming back months later at no charge to install a few pavers after I did some restructuring work on my front porch. Overall, the experience was excellent.

Background: We bought our house at the peak of the housing market, so we are particularly careful about the money we invest in it. The house came with an old deck that didn't fit with the character of the home, so for five years we had been planning to remove it and replace it with a paver patio. Our small yard needed extra space, so over the past year we "interviewed" different hardscape providers by attending a few home shows and visiting garden centers. Design Phase: After seeing several advertisements, we stopped by The Hardscape Store one weekday afternoon and talked to Kevin, the owner. He asked many good questions, far more than anyone else asked, and gave us an on-the-spot estimate and a detailed brochure. A few weeks later we asked Kevin to come to our house to give an official estimate and to draw up a design. He charges for the design, but refunds it towards the work if you sign a contract with him. Fair and seems consistent with competitors. What we really liked about the design phase was that Kevin looked at far more than the future patio: he made excellent suggestions on how we could better integrate it with some new windows and doors we are having installed. Quite frankly he came up with better ideas than our architect did, and he took the time to discuss the plans with the window architect to make sure the drawing and estimate were fully compatible. Contract/Price: After spending several hours with us designing the new patio, Kevin made an out-of-hours appointment just to answer our last lingering questions, and at that time we signed the contract. It's worth noting that we obtained 4 rough estimates and only one other firm came to our house. The rough estimates we received up to that point were anywhere from $10,000 - $19,000 dollars, including removal and disposal of the old deck. (The other firm that actually came to our house proposed $19,000.) Our estimate from The Hardscape Store was for $11,500, which included removal and disposal of the old deck, moving plants, reworking drainage and working within neighborhood permit restrictions. He also was one of only two who offered any kind of warranty: THREE years "bumper to bumper". Quality: Here is where we can't say enough. The crew did an outstanding job. The crew are professional and clearly know what they are doing. Kevin said they've been doing this together for 20+ years and it shows. Even though our neighborhood has strict regulations about when/how/where a crew can work, the crew tolerated it with patience. We weren't sure about one or two small aspects of the design, and the crew chief patiently waited for us to make an on-the-fly decision, offering his own opinions and making sure we were happy. Our neighbor had a perfect view to watch their daily work, and in our neighbor's estimation "they did an incredible job" and we "got a great deal!" We cannot say enough about the quality of the work, it's the best. Summary: We waited a month after installation to make this review, because we were very happy when it was first done, but we wanted to give ourselves time to reflect and give an honest review. We are exactly elated about the new paver patio The Hardscape Store installed for us. We can't say enough good things about the whole process and the final product. As we are right now sitting on the patio, enjoying our new space, we would like to say a wholehearted "thank you" to Kevin and the whole crew. Genuinely. Our new patio is even better than we imagined possible.

Received initial estimate from company in 2008. Had to wait to move forward on doing work do to waiting for MHIC claim process to move forward. Asked to review previous quote from 2008 in 2010 and then asked to revise the design slightly to reflect a different layout that another contractor suggested. After agreeing and saying "no problem" about revising the estimate the contractor became extremely rude and went off on a rant saying how he was not going to further waste his time, how we're looking for a "cheap way out" and that he could guarantee us that he was not going to be the cheapest guy (which he was based on all other bids). He basically told us to get lost and was very unprofessional about the whole process.
